A grueling cross-country ski marathon in Wisconsin’s Northwoods, the American Berkebeiner on Feb. 21 attracts racers young and old. Racers age 70 and older find purpose and social bonds as they complete this extreme athletic feat year after year.

Ben Loomis is one of just two skiers representing Team USA in the nordic combined skiing competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy this February. The Norwegian sport blends ski jumping with a cross country skiing race. There are two individual events and one team event.
