Anthony Jackson, director of transportation for Bibb County School District in Georgia, saved $1 million a year using propane buses instead of diesel.

Some districts, Whaley said, leverage savings to boost retention by increasing school bus driver wages.

He explained that propaneโ€™s quieter rides and rapid cabin heating enhance student readiness, especially for students who have special needs or noise sensitivity, or who require Individualized Education Programs. He related that Diana Mikelski, recently retired director of transportation for Township High School District two eleven in Illinois, saw improved classroom calm and student readiness after switching to propane.

Mouw confirmed that Roush supports districts with free technician training โ€“ which can be web-based, on-site, or at a factory โ€“ as well as rapid warranty and parts support. Attendees were invited to tour a Ford engine plant producing 1,000 engines daily as well as Roush headquarters in Michigan.

Propaneโ€™s infrastructure, portability and resilience make it a practical, sustainable choice for school transportation, Whaley summed up. The session concluded with a call to action: utilize incentives like AmeriGasโ€™ free fuel offer, ownership calculators, peer connections and firsthand technology exploration. Propane and EV powertrains offer compelling financial, operational and environmental advantages, positioning them as optimal solutions for districts facing rising costs and regulatory demands.
