Range Rover Sport EV Doesn’t Make A Fuss About Going Electric

  • A Range Rover Sport Electric prototype has been spied undisguised.
  • The model closely echoes its ICE-powered counterpart but lacks an exhaust and features a partially enclosed grille.
  • A debut could come as early as next year and the SUV will likely borrow heavily from the Range Rover Electric.

Spy photographers caught the Range Rover Electric in August and now we’re getting a look at the Range Rover Sport Electric. It will form a key pillar of their eco-friendly lineup, which will also include an electric Velar successor.

Spied undisguised, the Range Rover Sport Electric flies under the radar as it looks virtually identical to the standard model. However, we can see a partially enclosed grille that echoes the one found on its big brother. The rear end is also unique as the crossover eschews an exhaust system.

Range Rover Sport EV Doesn’t Make A Fuss About Going Electric

While Land Rover is playing coy, the model will undoubtedly follow in the footsteps of the Range Rover Electric. This means it will ride on the familiar modular longitudinal architecture and have an 800V electrical system. They’ll be joined by batteries and electric drive units that are assembled in-house.

We can expect to learn more details in the coming months, but the company has previously said the Range Rover Electric will have a new traction control system that delivers β€œexceptional levels of performance.” It promises to distribute β€œwheel slip management … directly to each individual electric drive control unit, reducing the torque reaction time at each wheel from around 100 milliseconds to as little as 1 millisecond.” This promises to enhance off-road traction, ensuring it’s a proper Range Rover.
