New Lexus Sedan Gunning For Mercedes And BMW In Europe

  • Lexus has introduced the European version of the new ES, ahead of its market launch in 2026.
  • The executive sedan offers the option between two hybrid and two fully electric powertrains.
  • Besides the fully redesigned exterior, the new generation improves comfort and ride quality.

The Lexus ES has never been Europe’s sedan of choice, but the Japanese brand is clearly determined to change that with the latest generation. After debuting globally at the Shanghai Auto Show in China, the ES is making its European premiere a month later, hoping to give heavy hitters like the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class, and Audi A6 a run for their money.

A fixture in the Lexus lineup since 1989, the ES has had a rather slow and steady European introduction, making its way into Eastern Europe in 2010 and arriving in Western Europe only in late 2018. It was seen as an indirect successor to the now-discontinued GS, though many might argue it never quite found its European groove.

New Design, New Powertrains

The eighth-generation ES comes with a complete redesign that aims to improve its appeal. The exterior is fresh and modern, with a body-colored spindle grille flanked by sharp, slimmer L-shaped headlights. Hybrid models feature a slim grille for added cooling, while the EV models take a more minimalist approach to the front end.

\\\\\\\\\\\\

The profile is now more aerodynamic than before, with a smooth sloping roofline that leads to a fastback-style rear. At the back, a full-width LED bar and sharp shoulder lines give it a more aggressive stance.

In terms of size, the new ES has grown. A lot. It’s now 165 mm (about 6.5 inches) longer than the previous model, with an extra 80 mm (3.1 inches) between the axles, making for a far roomier interior.

A Tech-Filled Interior

Step inside, and Lexus has clearly worked to elevate the tech experience. The highlight is a massive 14-inch infotainment screen, marking the largest display in any Lexus model so far, and which can be customized with various shortcuts and widgets. It’s paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. However, for Europeans, the option for a passenger display that is available in China, seems to be off the table.

Lexus also promises a quieter cabin, thanks to improved sound insulation and higher-quality materials. The interior features include illuminated panels made using a printing technique called bamboo layering, as well as synthetic leather embossing. The “Hidden Switches,” touch-sensitive controls that appear only when the car is on, are a neat trick. For audiophiles, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound System is available.

Comfort has been improved too thanks to the new seat design, with a higher seating position for easier ingress/egress, a reclining rear bench, and greater support for the front passengers. If you’re being chauffeured, you’ll be happy to know that the front passenger seat has a folding function that maximizes rear legroom. Finally, there is an enhanced Lexus Safety System + ADAS suite.

Hybrid And EV Options

The new ES rides on an improved version of the TNGA-K architecture, which already underpins several vehicles in the group, including the Toyota Camry and the Crown Crossover. The new generation introduces a multi-link system on the rear axle, alongside a new suspension setup and increased rigidity. According to Lexus, these upgrades result in an improved ride quality and a more composed drive.

When it comes to the powertrains, European buyers will have a choice between two self-charging hybrid options in FWD and AWD configurations. The base ES 300h produces 199 hp (148 kW / 201 PS), while the ES 350h is more powerful with 244 hp (182 kW / 247 PS), both relying on the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

For the first time, however, the ES is available with fully electric powertrains. The FWD-only ES 350e produces 221 hp (165 kW / 224 PS) and comes with a 77 kWh battery. The flagship ES 500e, with AWD, produces 338 hp (252 kW / 343 PS) and carries a 75 kWh battery pack. Lexus hasn’t confirmed the official WLTP range figures yet, but they expect the most efficient model to go up to 530 km (329 miles) on a single charge.

Availability

European sales of the new Lexus ES are expected to kick off in Spring 2026, with final pricing and detailed specs to be announced closer to launch. Whether this new generation can make a dent in the dominance of European luxury sedans remains to be seen, but it’s certainly taking its best shot.

New Lexus RZ Skips The Yoke But Brings Simulated Gearbox To America

  • The 2026 RZ offers more power and range but skips steer-by-wire for U.S. models.
  • All trims now come equipped with a NACS plug for Tesla Supercharger compatibility.
  • The flagship RZ550e delivers 402 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds.

A few months ago, Lexus unveiled the 2026 RZ in its European-spec form, featuring steer-by-wire technology and simulated gears. Now, the updated RZ is headed to the North American market, and it comes with several upgrades including a new and improved battery, more power, and increased driving range.

Three versions of the 2026 RZ will be available in the US. Leading the charge at the base of the lineup is the new RZ 350e. It comes with a 74.69 kWh battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor producing 221 horsepower, 20 more than the outgoing RZ 300e. Lexus claims this version can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 7.2 seconds and offers an estimated range of around 300 miles (482 km) on a single charge.

Next up is the RZ 450e AWD, which retains the same 74.69 kWh battery but adds an additional electric motor at the rear wheels, boosting the total output to 308 horsepower. This reduction in 0-60 mph time to 4.9 seconds is matched by a range of 260 miles (418 km).

Finally, there’s the new flagship RZ 550e F Sport AWD with a dual-motor setup. It swaps in a slightly larger 76.96 kWh battery, bumps the horsepower to 402, and cuts the 0-60 time to a much quicker 4.1 seconds. However, with an estimated driving range of 225 miles (362 km), it’s safe to say the RZ 550e isn’t exactly setting the standard for range in the EV market.

All 2026 RZ models heading to North America will come equipped with an NACS plug, and Lexus claims the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. Additionally, every model now comes standard with an 11 kW on-board AC charger, a noticeable upgrade from the 7 kW unit found in the previous generation.

\\\\

Curiously, it does not appear as though new RZ models to be sold in North America will have the same steer-by-wire as those sold internationally, including in Europe. Lexus has made no mention of the system in its local press release, and images released of the locally-specced model show it with a normal steering wheel, rather than the yoke that accompanies the steer-by-wire setup.

Virtual Shifts and a Spiffed-Up Interior

What we do know is that the RZ 550e F Sport AWD is the only version to offer Toyota’s M Mode virtual gear shift, which uses paddle shifters and is supposedly designed to provide “a sportier, more responsive driving feel.” Whether or not that’s true remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like something designed to make driving an electric vehicle feel just a little more interesting.

Inside, the 2026 RZ gets a few upgrades as well. A panoramic glass roof is now available, and it can switch from clear to opaque with the push of a button. The RZ 550e also gets some stylish black Ultrasuede trim with blue contrast stitching.

Lexus hasn’t revealed official pricing for the refreshed model yet, but it has confirmed that sales will begin later this year. Based on the pricing of the 2025 model year, the base models are expected to start around $45,000, with the new flagship RZ 550e likely pushing beyond $60,000.

New Lexus ES Drops The Grille And Embraces Electrification

  • Lexus has revealed a strong new look for its long-running ES sedan.
  • The four-door fastback takes cues from 2023’s LF-ZL SUV concept.
  • Two hybrids are outgunned by a pair of EVs that make up to 338 hp.

The 2025 Lexus ES is big on premium value and short on visual and behind-the-wheel excitement. But at this week’s Shanghai Auto Show Toyota’s luxury division set out to redress that balance with a new eighth-generation sedan that showcases a modern, angular design and the model’s first ever electric powertrains.

Drawing inspiration from both the brand’s current RZ electric SUV, its RX ICE counterpart and the 2023 LF-ZL concept, the ES gets a more exaggerated fastback shape than before that has more than a hint of Audi about it. But you’d never find the aggressive (or just overdone?) door coving on an Audi and the face is undeniably a Lexus one.

It’s not just the ES’s design that’s changed. So has the amount of road it occupies. A 116.1-inch (2,950 mm) wheelbase is 3.2-inches (80 mm) longer than the current sedan’s and the 202.4-inch (5,140 mm) overall length is also up by 6.5-inches (165 mm).

A subtle difference in the front-end styling depending on model tells you what powertrain is stashed under the hood. Hybrids get a cooling slot below the Lexus badge, while the EV variants have a smoother nose. In both versions the old, oversize bobbin-shaped grille is no more.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Minimalist interior

The interior receives an equally modern overhaul that’s light on physical buttons but big on screens: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen are standard but some trims get a duplicate touchscreen on the passenger side. Also new is the ‘L-E-X-U-S’ lettering on the steering wheel, which replaces the traditional badge, and the contemporary bamboo wood trim.

Base hybrids for most markets get a 2.0-liter engine that sends 194 hp (197 PS) to the front wheels alone and needs a yawning 9.4 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 kmh). America will skip that and jump straight in with the 2.5-liter AWD ES 350h hybrid whose 244 hp (247 PS) drops the sprint time to a more respectable, if still hardly knockout 7.8 seconds. These are both inline fours, by the way. There are no sixes in the new lineup.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Electric, but not electrifying

Want more hustle? It doesn’t sound like you’ll find it in the least expensive of the two available EV options. That delivers 221 hp (224 PS / 165 kW) to the front wheels and the ES 350e to 62 mph in 8.9 seconds, Lexus claiming 300 miles (483 km) on the optimistic Chinese CLTC cycle. Stepping up to the dual-motor ES 500e cuts the range to 379 miles (610 km) but boosts output to 338 hp (343 PS / 252 kW) and gets the hottest ES to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds.

The ES goes on sale in 2026, meaning it’ll probably end up as a MY27, and we’ll have to wait until much closer to that date to find out how much it’ll cost in North America. What do you think of the ES’s new, angular look, and are those powertrains too weedy? Leave a comment and let us know.

Lexus Plots 3-Row Electric SUV To Take On The Kia EV9

  • Lexus is preparing an all-electric three-row SUV based on its 2021 Electrified concept design.
  • The new Lexus TZ may share parts with the RZ to reduce production and development costs.
  • Lexus filed TZ450e and TZ550e trademarks suggesting at least two variants in development.

Lexus isn’t exactly known for rushing into things, but when it moves, it tends to do so with quiet confidence. Now, it looks like the Lexus family is set to expand once again with the addition of a new all-electric three-row SUV. We’re getting an early sense of what it might look like, and it’s shaping up to be an interesting electric counterpart to the brand’s existing offerings.

More: Toyota And Lexus Will Launch 15 EVs By 2027 And That’s Just The Start

The new model, likely to be called the TZ, will share its underpinnings with a Toyota-branded sibling known as the bZ5X. It’s expected to fill the role of a three-row alternative to the gas-powered Lexus TX, stepping into a space that’s growing fast in the EV market, where size, range, and badge cachet all matter.

To show how this new model may look, designer Theophilus Chin, also known as Theottle, has taken the Lexus Electrified SUV concept unveiled back in 2021 and made some production adjustments to it. While we won’t know how the TZ looks until Lexus starts testing some prototypes out in public, it would make sense for the brand to base it heavily on this concept.

A Familiar Face With Slight Tweaks

At the front, Theottle’s rendering swaps out the concept’s dramatic headlights for more conventional units, ones more in line with the current Lexus design language. The lighting elements below them, along with the shape of the front bumper, remain untouched, suggesting Lexus might not stray too far from its conceptual roots.

Moving along the sides, a few practical changes appear. The flush door handles of the concept are gone and have been replaced with more traditional hardware. A new set of wheels has also been added, and normal wing mirrors have been installed. It’s all standard production-car stuff, but necessary if this thing is going to hit a dealership lot.

The most obvious change made to the rear of the TZ is the fitment of smaller taillights that do not stretch as far down the rear quarter panels. Despite this, we think the rear of the new three-row Lexus still looks a little busy, and we hope Lexus’s designers come up with something more attractive than this.

Little is known about the production model, but in 2023, Lexus applied to trademark the TZ450e and TZ550e names, indicating that at least two electric models are being prepared. Lexus could use the same 77 kWh battery offered in the new RZ, but given the size and expected weight of this three-row SUV, it seems likely the TZ550e will need a pack with increased capacity. For comparison, the Kia EV9, one of the few EVs in this segment already on sale, offers a choice between 76.1 kWh and 99.8 kWh battery packs.

Lexus Plots 3-Row Electric SUV To Take On The Kia EV9

Talking about the RZ, the entry-level version is the RZ 350e that features a single electric motor at the front axle with 224 hp (167 kW) and 198 lb-ft (269 Nm) of torque and has a 357-mile (575 km) range. The RZ 500e packs two electric motors that deliver 375 hp (280 kW) for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 4.6 seconds and has a lower estimated range of 311 miles (500 km).

For the 2026 model year, Lexus added the RZ 550e F Sport to the lineup. It produces 402 hp (300 kW) from its dual-motor setup and accelerates to 100 km/h (96 mph) in 4.4 seconds. That added performance, however, comes at a cost as range drops to 280 miles (450 km). Since the TZ will be larger and heavier than the RZ, to quote Jaws‘ most iconic line, Lexus is gonna need a bigger boat – em, I mean battery.

Lexus Driver Goes Full Road Rage On Cybertruck

  • Tesla Cybertruck dashcam captured a Lexus LX600 in an aggressive road rage confrontation.
  • Video from the Tesla shows the Lexus driver brandishing what appears to be a firearm.
  • The incident highlights how pointless road rage is when cameras record everything around us.

There’s no shortage of things to be angry about these days, and let’s be honest—it gets the best of all of us now and then. Nevertheless, when you’re behind the wheel, keeping your emotions in check isn’t just good manners; it’s basic safety. When things spiral, you end up with situations like this: a Lexus driver pulling what appears to be a holstered firearm on a Tesla driver in broad daylight.

The original clip was posted by an X account called DonaldTNews. In it, we see a Lexus LX600 driver pull up alongside a Tesla. This isn’t just any Tesla either; it’s the Cybertruck, which, like everything Elon-related, has become wildly divisive. The Lexus driver appears to shout at the Cybertruck’s occupants while they’re moving along a highway. He even goes so far as to wag his finger at them like a disappointed gym teacher.

More: Driver’s Fiery Road Rage Rant Swiftly Hit By Karma

He then drives slightly into the Tesla’s lane and appears to attempt to hit the Cybertruck. Things only get crazier from here. After dropping back in traffic momentarily, the Lexus driver speeds up again and this time points something out the window at the Tesla. It’s hard to make out, but it appears to be a firearm, perhaps with a holster on the business end.

Others have surmised that it’s actually a stun gun of some sort due to its boxy nature. Nevertheless, it appears to be a firearm of sorts, and Texas, where this video seems to be from, is well-known for its gun-friendly population. Finally, the Lexus driver appears to intentionally swerve toward the Cybertruck before sitting behind it long enough for the video to end.

— Brandon (@LibOrNormal) March 28, 2025

It’s worth noting that there’s no way of knowing whether the Cybertruck driver did something that infuriated the one in the LX600h. However, there is nothing they could’ve done short of perhaps hitting the Lexus and trying to run that would make the Lexus driver’s reaction anything close to reasonable.

Considering the current political noise surrounding Elon Musk, Tesla, and the recent fallout from Musk’s connections to Trump’s administration, the incident could’ve been sparked by something far more inane.

Road rage is just about as pointless as on-road behaviors go. In this day and age, they’re even more so because tons of cars have onboard cameras built in. At the time of this writing, several people online are trying to help authorities track down the Lexus driver, and for what? They achieved nothing with their antics. Stay safe out there, folks.

2026 Lexus RZ Gets Yoked Steer-By-Wire And Simulated Gears

  • Lexus will sell the new RZ in RZ 350e, RZ 500e, and RZ 550e F Sport trims in Europe.
  • It now features simulated gears and synthetic ‘engine’ sounds for added engagement.
  • The brand has yet to announce specifications for the refreshed North American model.

Lexus has been developing a steer-by-wire system for several years now, but rather than rushing it to the market, has taken its sweet time to perfect it. It appears that’s exactly what it’s done with the facelifted 2026 Lexus RZ, confirming it will launch with steer-by-wire. The updated model also premieres with simulated gear shifts, that promise to make the driving experience a little more engaging.

Read: 2025 Lexus RZ Price Drops $11k, Now Cheaper Than A Toyota bZ4X

So far, the Japanese brand has only released European specifications for the 2026 RZ, with details for the North American model still pending. The base model is known as the RZ 350e and features a single electric motor at the front axle with 224 hp (167 kW) and 198 lb-ft (269 Nm) of torque. A 77 kWh battery pack comes standard across the range, with Lexus estimating a driving range of up to 357 miles (575 km) for the RZ 350e.

Performance Variants

A pair of more performance-focused variants have also been announced. The first is badged the RZ 500e and packs two electric motors that combine to deliver 375 hp (280 kW), propelling it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds. This model has an estimated range of 311 miles (500 km).

New to the range for the 2026 model year is the RZ 550e F Sport, which produces 402 hp (300 kW) and accelerates to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. As expected, the increased performance comes at the expense of range, which drops to 280 miles (450 km).

Steer-by-Wire

Perhaps the biggest headline of the 2026 RZ is that it now comes with a complete steer-by-wire system. We tested a prototype of this system back in 2023, and it’s now ready for prime time. The system is paired with a yoke steering wheel and features variable steering ratios, with no physical connection between the yoke and the front wheels.

\\\\\\\\\\\

Simulated Gears

Lexus also appears to have taken inspiration from Hyundai and Kia by implementing a synthetic shifting system into the new RZ. Lexus calls this system the Interactive Manual Drive, and it has been paired with simulated engine sounds. According to the brand, this setup “delivers a sportier, more responsive driving feel, offering greater engagement and driving pleasure.” We’ll have to see about that when we get a chance to drive the new RZ.

Market-specific pricing details for the 2026 RZ have not been confirmed. The US version should be announced in the not-too-distant future.
