A mining company is drilling for metals in Wisconsin. Opponents are on edge.

Exploration for metallic mines is fairly rare. But, in Taylor County, mining company Green Light Wisconsin is drilling for copper and gold. Such metals havenโ€™t been mined in Wisconsin for almost 30 years, but that could change. As drilling is ongoing, Wisconsin tribes and environmentalists are worried about potential harm to water, wetlands and cultural sites.

Republican DA Toney will oversee investigation into Wausau ballot drop box removal

Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney has been appointed to oversee the investigation of Wausau Mayor Doug Diny's removal of a ballot drop box ahead of the 2024 election. Toney, a well known Republican, previously praised the Wisconsin Supreme Court's former conservative majority when it banned the use of drop boxes in 2022.

Flood damage not covered by home insurance, residents waiting on FEMA declaration

Thousands of people have filed claims after flood waters inundated homes or swamped vehicles. But flood damage to buildings is not covered by home or renters insurance unless they have purchased flood policies, said Sarah Smith, spokesperson with the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.ย
