This Genesis EV’s Horned Wing Isn’t Just For Show

  • The GV60 Magma is giving up more secrets ahead of this summer’s official debut.
  • Genesis’ take on the Ioniq 5 N was spotted with a big rear spoiler for the first time.
  • The EV debuts at Goodwood in July, a year on from the Magma concept’s unveiling.

It’s two years since Hyundai revealed its epic Ioniq 5 N and three since Kia gave us the first EV6 GT, but only now is Genesis, the Korean conglomerate’s luxury maker, about ready to show us what kind of performance EV it can whip up using the same basic electric building blocks.

The GV60 Magma – Magma being the Genesis brand’s new performance label – is scheduled to make its global debut at next month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, a year on from the original concept’s reveal at the same location.

While previous spy shots show the production EV won’t look exactly like the concept, new images confirm one element that has definitely made the cut with only subtle changes. That’s the rear spoiler, which was hidden under disguise or just absent on earlier prototypes. Here it’s still covered in camouflage wrap, but the shape is on on full view, revealing horn-like end planes that are even bigger than the concept’s.

As well as being bigger, those end planes are also more vertical, which could be a result of aerodynamic analysis, or simply because Genesis or its customer clinic participants now think they look better this way. Also present is a rear diffuser mounted below the bumper, and the concept’s roof-mounted fins.

These look similar to the ones on a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, a car whose vertical wheelarch wings seem to have inspired the lower parts of the Magma’s arch extensions (though it’s hard to make out on these pictures).

The Magma will probably use the same 84 kWh battery as the Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT, though considering their unimpressive 200-mile (320 km) real-world range, it would benefit from something bigger. Following a recent EV6 GT update both of those cars make 641 hp (650 PS / 478 kW), but some reports suggest Genesis will push the needle further to cement its position as the performance leader of the group.

We’re also expecting to see the virtual gear shift function that proved such a hit when the 5 N first appeared.

This Is The Face Of Genesis’s Fastest Car Yet

  • Genesis’s GV60 Magma has been spotted testing minus a big chunk of disguise.
  • The exposed front end reveals the large bumper grille and three extra grille vents.
  • Hyundai’s 641 hp Ioniq 5 N supplies the dual-motor hardware for the Magma SUV.

Considering it’s the most premium brand in the Hyundai Group, it’s strange that Genesis has waited so long after Kia and Hyundai delivered their own performance EVs to jump in on the action. But the automaker’s first fast EV is almost ready to drop and thanks to a fresh set of spy shots we now know how it’ll look.

New pics taken in Europe show a GV60 Magma prototype testing minus its usual front-end disguise. In previous spy images the first car from Genesis’s new Magma performance sub-brand was either wearing a full set of black vinyl covers or, as on a recent Nurburgring outing, a swirly camo wrap.

This time it’s mostly covered in the trash bag disguise but the front end is completely uncovered, giving us a clear view of the entire grille and bumper arrangement. The pics confirm that the production Magma will stick close to the design of the 2024 Magma concept, with a big double-deck mesh grille taking up most of the bumper and three additional lozenge-shaped vents mounted above.

Although the GV60 is an EV, and so doesn’t have the same cooling requirements as a combustion car, Genesis’s reason for losing the front camouflage must be cooling-related – particularly since the prototype was towing a trailer.

Like the concept, this test car has small canard aero fins on either side of the bumper. And we wouldn’t pay too much attention to the current location of the license plate – judging from the various slots and subtle cutouts in the bumper, production EVs will have their plates mounted below the three mini vents, not above.

The small 911 GT3 RS-style vertical fins we noticed behind the front wheels during a Nurburgring test are present, though whether they’ll end up body color or black, as seen here, we don’t yet know. The concept’s arch trims were color-coded, but they had a different design featuring two slim vents behind each front and each rear wheel.

The GV60 is built from the same E-GMP component set as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, and will share much of its hardware with the N and GT performance versions of those cars, including an 84 kWh battery.

But intel suggests Genesis will make up for being late to the party by pushing power beyond the 641 hp/650 PS (on overboost) its sister cars generate. The Magma could generate close to 700 hp (710 PS) while still offering the same simulated gearshifts that have helped make the Ioniq 5 N such a hit with enthusiasts. The N is good for zero to 60 mph (97 kmh) in a claimed 3.3 seconds, and the Magma could potentially prove even quicker.

Given that the concept made its debut at last July’s Goodwood Festival of Speed it’s highly likely the production car will be unveiled at the 2025 event, and Genesis has already said it plans to start production in Q3 of this year.

Genesis’ New Flagship Looks Like A Giant Minivan

  • The GV90 inches closer to production as a lightly camouflaged prototype has been spied.
  • It’s inspired by the Neolun concept, boasting streamlined styling and a minivan-like shape.
  • Genesis has hinted at a 2026 debut, but delays may push the luxury model’s arrival further.

The Genesis GV90 is entering the homestretch and the bulky camouflage has finally come off. This gives us our best look yet at the upcoming electric vehicle and it appears more like a minivan than a luxurious SUV.

Previewed by the Neolun concept, the production model has an upright front fascia with a large lower intake. The latter appears to be divided into two sections, each featuring a slightly different mesh pattern. They reside below trademark “two-line” headlights and what looks to be a V-shaped accent.

In profile, the GV90 looks like a modern day Dodge Grand Caravan riding on supersized wheels. That’s far from ideal for a luxury brand, but the crossover has a rakish windscreen that flows into a long sloping roof. We can also see a nearly horizontal beltline as well as an expansive greenhouse. They’re joined by flush-mounted door handles, front fender lights, and curvaceous bodywork.

The streamlined styling continues out back with a curvy liftgate that eschews a spoiler. Designers also gave the crossover full-width taillights and a minimalist bumper with a large license plate recess.

Genesis covered the interior in black and white camouflage, so it’s hard to determine what to expect. However, there should be a widescreen infotainment system and plenty of upscale amenities. Speaking of which, previous spy photos have shown a second-row center console with an integrated display as well as a wireless smartphone charger.

Genesis has been tight-lipped about the GV90, but recent rumors have suggested the model has been delayed until the summer of 2026. That remains to be seen, but the crossover could ride on the new eM platform, which is expected to be an evolution of the current E-GMP architecture.

Little else is known about the model, but it should be more advanced than the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. The latter model starts at $58,955 and features a 110.3 kWh battery pack as well as three different powertrains. The rear-wheel drive variant has 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS), while the most powerful all-wheel drive model has 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS). Drivers can also expect ranges of between 311 and 335 miles (501 and 539 km).

Genesis Cranks The Ioniq 5 N Formula Up To 11

  • Genesis is expanding into performance vehicles, starting with the new GV60 Magma.
  • It shares its underpinnings and battery with the Ioniq 5 N but offers more power.
  • A slew of aerodynamic upgrades will be joined by chassis improvements.

Genesis was originally designed to be the luxury division of the Hyundai Group, but now, it’s branching out into performance territory. The brand is even stepping up to compete at Le Mans in the Hypercar class. Their first serious contender in the performance car market? The GV60 Magma, which was spotted doing hot laps at the Nurburgring.

As the debut product of its Magma performance sub-brand, this upcoming model is positioned to be a premium alternative to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT. It’s been in the works for some time and will be based on the facelifted GV60.

The GV60 Magma sets itself apart from the standard GV60 with a more aggressive front fascia, complete with aerodynamic canards on both sides and a larger splitter. As with other recent prototypes, it’s sporting sporty black wheels and bright red brake calipers. In a nod to the future, the Magma features cameras instead of traditional wing mirrors, a feature that’s already available on the current GV60 lineup.

Elsewhere, we can see the fenders have been modified, sporting aero ducts behind the front wheels and behind the rear ones. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS also has similar aero fins behind the front and rear wheels, although they are much larger. Genesis also looks to have taken inspiration from Weissach’s finest by adding aerodynamic strakes to the roof.

Like the Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT, the GV60 Magma will probably use the same 84 kWh battery pack. The Hyundai tops out at 641 hp from its dual electric motors, while the facelifted EV6 GT out-muscles it slightly with 645 hp. According to our spies, the Genesis may offer up even more grunt, potentially pushing horsepower towards the 700 mark.

Much like its sibling models, the GV60 Magma is expected to include the Virtual Gear Shift function and an engine sound that mimics a traditional internal combustion engine.

Genesis Declares Full-Size War On BMW And Cadillac With EV Muscle

  • GV90 is the production version of the Neolun concept from last year’s New York Show.
  • The electric SUV will likely ride on Genesis’ new eM platform with 800V fast charging.
  • Some versions of the GV90 may feature Rolls Royce-style rear-hinged coach doors.

Breaking into the luxury SUV scene isn’t for the faint-hearted, especially when the playing field is packed with legacy heavyweights ranging from Cadillac, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, to Bentley and its ultra-premium peers. But Genesis, the premium division of the Hyundai Motor Group, thinks it has what it takes to stand out. And it’s not just talking big; it’s building big too.

You’d be right in thinking you’ve seen this somewhere before, as the GV90 was previewed as the Neolun concept at last year’s New York International Auto Show. Unlike many show cars watered down for production, this one has largely stayed the course.

Visually, the GV90 comes in well over five meters long and makes no attempt to hide its size. The front is defined by twin horizontally stacked LED light strips flanking a large, crest-shaped panel. Those lighting elements continue just behind the front fenders, tracing the edge where the clamshell hood meets the front doors. Below, a layered chrome pattern decorates the lower front bumper, with additional brightwork running along the rocker panels and wrapping around the rear of the vehicle.

The bodywork avoids harsh creases or busy design tricks, instead relying on clean surfaces and sheer presence to sell the design. Some variants of the GV90 will be available with Rolls Royce-style coach doors, and the two-tiered LED lighting theme upfront repeats within the taillight clusters in the name of continuity.

A Luxury Outlook

\\

Inside, the GV90 emphasizes luxury and comfort. Spy shots reveal four individual massaging seats, with the second row separated by a substantial center console equipped with cup holders, an inductive mobile phone charger, and a large infotainment display.

Up front, expect a colossal pillar-to-pillar OLED instrument cluster and infotainment display, wireless phone connectivity and a host of convenience features to keep up with the Benz’s. Buyers are said to be able to spec the GV90 with radiant heating and an electrochromic glass roof that can block out the sun in multi-configurable ways. A full suite of level 2 semi-autonomous driving aids will be available.

An Ohm Run

While it was initially believed that the GV90 might ride on Hyundai’s existing E-GMP platform, shared with models like the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV9, recent reports suggest that Genesis is finishing work on a new, exclusive platform called eM. This advanced 800V architecture supports ultra-fast charging, allowing the GV90 to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes when connected to a 350-kW DC fast charger.

All-wheel drive will likely come standard, with an electric motor on each axle delivering a combined output of nearly 500 horsepower (368 kW) in base models, with higher figures expected in flagship trims. The GV90 is expected to use a 99.8-kWh battery pack, offering an estimated range of over 300 miles per charge. Larger battery options may also be available, pushing that range even further.

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology will enable the premium SUV to be a backup power source for homes and electronic devices. Additionally, the GV90 will feature electronically controlled dampers and an advanced torque-vectoring system to optimize traction and handling.

Rivals and Debut

Genesis is aiming straight at the top of the luxury EV market, with the GV90 positioned to take on a growing field of high-end electric SUVs. Key rivals could include the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Volvo EX90, BMW iX, and the Lucid Gravity, each bringing its own mix of performance, tech, and brand prestige to the table.

An official debut was originally expected sometime this year, but recent reports out of Korea suggest the timeline has shifted. The reveal may now happen in late 2026, with production scheduled to begin at Hyundai’s dedicated EV facility in Ulsan, South Korea.
