Brembo’s Strongest Passenger Car Brake Ever Went To A Chevy Truck, Not A Ferrari Supercar

  • Brembo launched Boldika, its strongest passenger car caliper ever.
  • The six-piston setup debuts on the 2026 Chevy Silverado EV RST.
  • It generates over 8,500 Nm (6,269 lb-ft) of total braking torque.

When you think of serious stopping power, you probably picture track-focused sports cars and supercars with carbon-ceramic rotors and a lap time to protect. Brembo’s newest caliper goes somewhere else, as the most powerful unit the company has ever built for a passenger car application is bolted to a fully electric Chevy truck.

The Brembo Boldika (from the words Bold and Like) is a new six-piston fixed caliper good for more than 8,500 Nm (6,269 lb-ft) of braking torque. Brembo built it for “large, heavy and high-horsepower vehicles,” which in practice means full-size trucks and SUVs that have spent the last several years getting heavier and considerably more powerful.

Why The Silverado EV Went First

This explains why Brembo decided to debut the Boldika in the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV and more specifically, the RST Stars and Steel Edition. Handling towing loads and hard stops without piling on mass called for a three-piece hybrid construction, two aluminum halves bolted together around a cast-iron central bridge, wrapped around that six-piston layout.

Furthermore, the caliper incorporates Brembo’s Enesys zero-drag technology, which is said to eliminate residual torque drag and reduce wear by retracting the pads completely from the rotors when the driver lifts the foot off the brake pedal.

The Boldika is compatible with wheels 20 inches and larger, with the massive 24-inch alloys of the Chevy offering plenty of clearance. On the Silverado, they are finished in a Torch Red finish against high-gloss black wheels, with both Chevrolet and Brembo branding on the body.

The new brake caliper will eventually spread to more electrified and combustion trucks and SUVs from a range of automakers.

Beyond the brakes, the RST Stars and Steel Edition marks itself out with American-flag-inspired graphics on the hood and tailgate, applied over Black or Summit White paint. The electric truck uses a 4WD powertrain rated at 760 hp (567 kW / 771 PS), with a choice between Extended Range and Max Range versions, good for up to 410 miles (660 km) and 478 miles (769 km) respectively. Chevy’s website lists the special edition from $99,945.

Chevy’s Five-Year Plan Includes A New Sedan And Updated Gas Models

  • Chevrolet is reportedly planning a new sporty ICE sedan for 2028.
  • Upcoming four-door model could revive the iconic Camaro name.
  • It could be joined by a new ICE-powered crossover and updated EVs.

General Motors is lining up a strategic shift for its volume brand, Chevrolet, bending its future product plans toward where the market is actually headed through 2030. The automaker is reportedly plotting a return to the passenger car business with a sporty ICE-powered sedan that could wear the Camaro name, alongside a run of updated gas models due over the next five years.

Starting with the sedan, it is rumored to break cover in 2028. No final decision has been made on what to call it, but it could mark the return of the iconic Camaro badge. That would make it a fitting rival to Ford’s long-rumored Mustang Mach-4, dragging the muscle car feud into four-door territory. It would also serve as a spiritual successor to the Camaro and the Malibu, both discontinued in 2024.

According to Automotive News, the new Chevy will ride on rear-wheel-drive underpinnings shared with a future Buick sedan and the next-generation Cadillac CT5. Production is expected to take place at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Michigan.

Analysts suggest that introducing a sedan, even one with modest sales expectations, would help diversify Chevy’s lineup, which leans heavily on crossovers, SUVs, and trucks. Stephanie Brinley, associate director of AutoIntelligence at Mobility Global, said that a new sedan could still “contribute meaningfully” to Chevrolet’s portfolio.

As for the rest of the range, Chevrolet has largely scrapped plans to introduce more new EVs by 2030, driven by slower-than-expected adoption and the expiration of federal tax incentives. Production of the entry-level Bolt EV will end early next year to make room for a new ICE-powered crossover in Kansas.

Still, the Bowtie brand isn’t walking away from its current EV lineup. The Blazer EV is expected to receive mid-lifecycle updates in 2028, along with a redesign for the Equinox EV, keeping both fresh against rivals. Those two have helped make GM the second-largest seller of EVs in the United States, behind Tesla, according to Automotive News. The Silverado EV will also carry on, capitalizing on the recent discontinuation of the rival Ford F-150 Lightning.

That approach extends beyond EVs. “Chevrolet, like the other brands, is looking to lean back on existing products with face-lifts and new engines and updated powertrains to keep them going through the rest of this decade,” Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions, told the publication.

Beyond updates to existing models, the only new electric Chevy on the horizon this decade is a commercial van being developed jointly with Hyundai. Automotive News reports that plans for additional Chevrolet EV nameplates before 2030 are effectively on hold, with the company prioritizing updates to its existing electric models over launching entirely new ones. Finally, the Corvette is expected to enter a new generation in 2029, a full decade after the current C8 arrived.

GM’s EV Trucks Bombed, So Dealers Are Offering Huge Discounts

  • Dealers are slapping big discounts on slow-selling GM electric trucks.
  • A new 2024 model has been marked down by more than $21,000.
  • Many trucks have been transformed into courtesy transportation vehicles.

General Motors had high hopes for electric trucks, so they went all in with a Chevrolet Silverado EV as well as two GMC pickups. Unfortunately for them, they’ve all been a massive flop.

The sales chart paints a brutal picture as Silverado EV sales have plunged 32.5% through the first six months of the year. Dealers have only sold 3,672 units, and that equates to a mere 612 per month.

While Sierra EV sales were up 9.8% to 3,044 units, those gains were more than offset by a huge drop in demand for the GMC Hummer EV lineup. Sales of the truck and SUV plunged 54.9% through June to 3,601 vehicles.

Adding all those sales up results in a mere 10,317 units. To give you an idea of how bad that is, Chevrolet found 25,418 buyers for the ancient Express van.

Given low sales and lackluster demand, it’s no surprise that dealers are offering huge discounts on the Silverado EV. One of the biggest appears to be from Carr Chevrolet, which still has a 2024 model on their lot. To get rid of the work truck, the $75,345 pickup has been given a hefty $21,396 discount. This lowers the cost of entry to $53,949 before a $250 document fee.

McCarthy Chevrolet in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, also has a relic from 2024. In this case, it’s an upscale RST which stickered for $96,995. However, even after a $15,000 discount, it still feels overpriced at $81,995.

If you’d rather not have an electric truck that dates back to the Biden administration, Advantage Chevrolet of Hodgkins, Illinois, has an $8,589 discount on their 2026 Silverado EV LT Max Range. Since the model originally stickered for $95,584, buyers can now get it for $86,995.

It’s a similar story at Clay Cooley Chevrolet in Texas, where pricing on a 2026 Silverado EV LT has been slashed by $9,000. That lowers the cost of entry to $53,995.

If you’d rather opt for the more attractive Sierra EV, there are plenty of discounts to be found. AutoNation Buick GMC Corpus Christi is offering $10,565 in savings on a 2026 Elevation Extended Range. This lowers the price tag from $79,335 to $68,770.

Covert Buick GMC has knocked $7,000 off the price of their Sierra EV Elevation Extended Range. It now stickers for $60,685 before a $225 document fee.

Those are just a few examples, but there are countless others out there. As a result, it pays to shop around and haggle. It’s also worth noting that a number of dealers appear to be putting the EVs into service as courtesy transportation vehicles.
