GMC Just Made The 2026 Hummer EV Crabbier Than Ever

Even the most excessive EV on the market is still getting upgrades. For the 2026 model year, the GMC Hummer EV sees a series of small updates aimed at enhancing performance, off-road functionality, and overall refinement. A few of the improvements will even be offered retroactively to current owners, thanks to over-the-air updates.

Carbon Fiber Edition For Extreme Acceleration

Among the changes, the limited-run Carbon Fiber Edition stands out. Available for both Pickup and SUV versions, this trim builds on the top-tier 3X model but pushes performance even further. The truck version now launches from 0 to 60 mph (0–97 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds, down slightly from the already eye-widening “approximately 3 seconds” claimed by the outgoing model.

According to GMC, this extra boost is the result of refined propulsion calibration, updated software, and some hardware tweaks. The updated 3X also comes with a 24-module battery pack delivering 1,160 hp (865 kW / 1,176 PS), up from the previous 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS).

Visually, the Carbon Fiber Edition gets 22-inch carbon fiber wheels, carbon accents on the mirror caps and skid plates, and an exclusive matte Magnus Gray exterior paired with black emblems. Inside, it features a Velocity Ember interior theme. GMC doesn’t mention any actual weight savings from the carbon fiber bits, which serve more aesthetic than functional purposes

Subtle Updates, Smarter Tech

Outside of the special edition, the 2026 Hummer lineup doesn’t get major styling revisions. However, two new exterior color options called Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte, have been added, along with new interior themes: Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse.

The tech front gets a more noticeable upgrade. The 13.4-inch infotainment screen now supports a customizable split-view layout, giving drivers quicker access to key data. The Super Cruise driver assistance system has also been updated, though details on those improvements are still limited

King Crab Mode For Everyone

Another highlight of the 2026 MY is the addition of the King Crab mode. This feature is standard in the 2X and 3X trims and will be available to all Hummer EV Pickup and SUV owners later this year through an over-the-air update. According to the company, the King Crab mode makes the rear wheels turn “significantly faster” than the front wheels, improving maneuverability in tight spaces and enhancing the rock crawling abilities of the Hummer.

GMC engineers have also optimized the damper tuning of the EV, promising an improved ride quality. Furthermore, all versions of the Hummer are now compatible with bidirectional charging, meaning they can charge another vehicle, or power your entire home during a blackout.

Production of the 2026 GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV will take place at GM’s Factory ZERO Assembly Center in Michigan. The updated models are expected to hit U.S. dealerships later this year, with pricing and range details to be announced closer to launch, likely by late summer 2025.

We all love the idea of getting our hands on a brand new car, but the depreciation all but the most rare-groove, in-demand models suffer is a bitter pill to swallow. Take a look at this GMC Hummer EV for proof. It just sold on a well-known auction site for around $45,000 less than its MSRP despite having only been driven a few hundred miles.

A Hummer 3X, it would have cost $104,650 in base form, but this one came with some choice options. The most significant of those is the $23,355 Omega Edition package, which included Neptune Blue matte paint, transparent removable roof panels, 18-inch beadlock wheels and black emblems. Then there’s Off-Road package that added skid plates, underbody cameras, locking differentials – and a further $9,995 to the price.

The total with-options MSRP came to $140,295, yet the auction hammer price for this GMC Hummer EV SUV was only $95,500. In an earlier listing on Bring a Trailer, bids reached $95,750 but that wasn’t enough to hit the reserve and it failed to sell. A week later, with the Hummer listed again on the same site and the reserve now removed, somebody got themselves a steal of a deal.

Visually, this 830 hp (842 PS) triple-motor Hummer looks as good as new, which it ought to considering it’s covered only 404 miles (650 km). That’s about as much driving as the average American might do in two weeks and means the huge 200+ kWh battery won’t have degraded.

Bring a Trailer

Compounding the good-as-new feel is the fact that whoever won this auction will be the first owner. The SUV was never titled because it hasn’t been sold to a private party before and is being offered by the dealer with its Manufacturer Certificate of Origin.

Buying a zero-mile new car can make sense if the dealer has a great zero-percent finance deal to go with it, something not open to auction buyers. And yes, this is a 2024 model rather than a 2025, which helps explain some of the depreciation. But it’s hard to argue with a $45,000 saving on the MSRP, and at least a $25,0000 saving on a 2025 model with some (but not all) of the same options.

Electric vehicle sales in the United States are gaining ground, but the road to mainstream dominance is still a long one. While EVs made a notable leap forward in the first quarter of 2025, they continue to account for only a fraction of total new car sales. Some automakers rode a wave of growth with new models and fresh demand, while others—Tesla included—faced early-year setbacks.

In total, 296,227 electric vehicles were sold nationwide between January and March, marking an 11.4 percent increase over the 265,981 units delivered during the same period last year. New data shows that General Motors had a particularly strong showing, with more than 30,000 GM EVs finding buyers in Q1—nearly doubling its output from a year ago. A mix of fresh offerings from Chevrolet and GMC helped drive the gains, while Cadillac continued to post steady performance.

GM Surges with Chevrolet and GMC

Chevrolet alone sold 19,186 electric vehicles in Q1 2025, a 114.2% increase over the 8,957 units it moved in the same quarter last year. The big success story was the Equinox EV, which led the brand’s lineup with 10,329 sales. The Blazer EV followed with a staggering 931.2% increase—rising from just 600 units in Q1 2024 to 6,187 units. The Silverado EV also posted a strong debut with 2,383 deliveries. Meanwhile, the Bolt EV and EUV were essentially absent, with only 13 units sold after GM officially discontinued the models two months ago.

GMC contributed solid numbers as well. The Hummer EV pickup and SUV posted a combined 3,479 sales, up 108.6%, while the brand also moved 1,249 units of the new Sierra EV.

According to Cox Auto, Porsche recorded the highest EV growth rate of any brand, with sales up 249% thanks to the arrival of the new Macan Electric. Toyota’s EV sales climbed 195.7% to 5,610 units, the Volkswagen Group jumped 183%, and Volvo spiked 172.9% on the strength of the new EX30 and EX90 models.

Tesla Flounders While Others Flourish

Tesla by contrast, didn’t share in the early-year enthusiasm. The company saw its US sales drop 9% year-over-year, delivering 128,100 vehicles in Q1. Still, even with the decline, Tesla holds a commanding 43.5% share of the U.S. EV market—nearly half of all electric cars sold.

Several other automakers also saw declines. Mercedes-Benz posted the steepest drops, down a staggering 58%. Rivian followed with a 37% dip, and Kia slipped 24% compared to the same quarter last year.

Looking ahead, Cox Automotive expects the rest of the year to be anything but smooth. “The rest of 2025 will likely be a volatile one for EV sales in the U.S., despite the introduction of new product and healthy incentives,” the firm noted. Tariff-related headwinds could weigh heavily, particularly for automakers relying on imported materials. Steel and aluminum tariffs are already a hurdle, and with China supplying much of the world’s EV battery materials, the ongoing trade standoff may distort the market further.

The 2026 GMC Sierra EV Now Starts $27,500 Cheaper

  • The GMC Sierra EV is adding an entry-level Elevation trim and an off-road focused AT4 for 2026.

  • The new Standard range battery pack will be available on both the Elevation and Denali trims.

The GMC Sierra EV lineup is expanding for 2026 as the company is adding new AT4 and Elevation trims. This gives customers more choice as well as a significantly lower starting price of $62,400.

Kicking things off is the entry-level Sierra EV Elevation, which has a streamlined but no frills design. GMC didn’t go into many specifics, but said the model comes equipped with a power eTrunk, a MultiPro tailgate, and 18-inch wheels featuring a two-tone finish.

Buyers will also find an After Dark interior with a 16.8-inch infotainment system. Sadly, the Denali’s beautiful wood trim is replaced by a cloth strip that looks like it was stolen from a 1980’s office chair.

The Elevation will be available with Standard and Extended Range batteries, although GM didn’t provide range estimates. Both will be powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive system and the Extended Range variant will have 645 hp (481 kW / 654 PS) and 765 lb-ft (1,036 Nm) of torque.

The off-road focused Sierra EV AT4 starts at $79,300. It’s distinguished by a lifted suspension and 18-inch wheels that are wrapped in 35-inch all-terrain tires. This combination gives the truck an additional 2 inches (51 mm) of ground clearance.

The off-road upgrades don’t end there as the AT4 comes standard with a 4-Wheel Steer system, which significantly improves maneuverability and makes it feel like you’re driving a significantly smaller pickup. Buyers will also find a gimmicky CrabWalk function as well as a trim-exclusive Terrain Mode.

Rounding out the highlights are an illuminated front badge and standard Super Cruise. The model also has a unique Forest Storm interior, which appears to include embroidered headrests as well as special seats with contrasting white accents.

The Sierra EV AT4 will be offered with Extended and Max Range batteries. The former has 625 hp (466 kW / 634 PS), while the latter boasts 725 hp (541 kW / 735 PS). While their horsepower ratings vary, both versions have 775 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque.

The Sierra EV Denali returns for 2026 with Standard, Extended, and Max Range batteries. Thanks to the addition of an entry-level battery, the base price plummets from $89,900 to $69,700. It’s also worth noting the Extended Range variant falls from $89,900 to $77,900 for a $12,000 savings.

GMC was coy on detailed performance specs, but the Denali Max Range will have 760 hp (567 kW / 771 PS) and 785 lb-ft (1,063 Nm) of torque.

The 2026 Sierra EV is expected to arrive at dealers this summer and, when it does, customers will find several new colors including Coastal Dune, Deep Bronze Metallic, Magnus Matte, and Glacier White Tri-Coat Metallic.
