Electric AMG C-Class Pops Its Wing As BMW M3 EV Battle Looms

  • 2028 AMG C-Class EV prototype shows off its deployable rear spoiler.
  • AMG division is developing active aero, rear steering and a firmer chassis.
  • Rumored 778 hp output would help it outrank AMG’s smaller CLA 45 EV.

Another electric AMG is creeping closer to production, and this time it’s literally raised its game. Fresh spy shots of the upcoming AMG C-Class EV have caught its pop-up rear spoiler deployed, giving us another clue about the car Mercedes hopes will keep the electric BMW M3 honest.

The regular electric C-Class debuted in April, but AMG’s version is still undergoing development ahead of an expected 2027 launch. Curiously, this latest prototype is actually more disguised than the one we saw in June, with additional camouflage obscuring the taillights and lower doors, suggesting its an older test car. But at least it forgot to hide the interesting bit.

Rising from the trunk lid is the active rear spoiler we’d previously suspected was lurking there. Sources say the AMG will use active aerodynamic hardware to genuinely key the fat tires into the road surface, so the wing isn’t simply an elaborate way of telling everyone you bought the expensive C-Class.

Elsewhere, this prototype wears different wheels from the last one we spied, while the production car is expected to get a more aggressive AMG body kit. Underneath, Mercedes is reportedly developing modified air suspension and rear-wheel steering, with AMG promising an “authentic experience” covering performance, handling and even sound.

Can fake sounds be authentic? The recently revealed electric CLA 45 uses synthesized combustion noises, simulated gearshifts and even active seat shakers to replace some of the sensations EVs normally delete. So we expect similar features in the electric AMG C-Class, and plenty of power to go with them.

778 HP Rumored

\\\\\

SH Proshots

Mercedes hasn’t confirmed the specs of the AMG C-Class, but between what we already know about the CLA 45 and the C400 4MATIC Electric, and rumors coming out of Affalterbach, a Yasa tri-motor setup producing around 778 hp (789 PS / 580 kW) seems likely.

The hot C-Class will need serious muscle simply to outrank the CLA 45, which already produces up to 671 hp (680 PS / 500 kW) from its own three-motor powertrain. The standard C400 4MATIC Electric, meanwhile, has two motors and makes a more modest 482 hp (490 PS / 360 kW). The C400 also supports DC charging at up to 330 kW and can travel up to 473 miles (762 km) on a charge, though the AMG C-Class won’t match those figures if it retains the C400’s 94 kWh battery.

Ultimately, though, AMG’s biggest challenge won’t be beating its little brother. BMW is preparing its first electric M3, meaning two of Germany’s defining performance sedans are heading into the battery era at roughly the same time.

Mercedes’ CEO Says A Fake V8 Made Him Feel ‘Like A Born-Again Christian’

  • The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 uses three electric motors, but can mimic a V8.
  • Mercedes-AMG has also developed fake gear shifts for the electric sedan.
  • Special front seats that vibrate further help to mimic the feel of a combustion engine.

Earlier this month, Mercedes-AMG set a class lap record for the new electric CLA 45 at the Nürburgring, lapping the circuit in an impressive 7:32.070. With three electric motors and a combined 671 hp and 1,297 lb-ft (1,759 Nm), it’s quite a different proposition than the old one. Mercedes insists it’s still fun, despite the electric shift.

Much like we saw with the all-electric AMG GT 4-Door earlier this year, Mercedes-AMG has tried to capture the essence of its combustion cars in the electric CLA 45. It’s done this by simulating gear shifts and using a soundtrack to simulate the old 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. As recently revealed by Mercedes boss Ola Kallenius, the system can also replicate the sound of a V8.

Mercedes’ CEO Says A Fake V8 Made Him Feel ‘Like A Born-Again Christian’

“When I first drove the CLA 45 with that system, I was like a born-again Christian,” Ola Kallenius told Autocar during a recent interview. “It was the best V8 I’d ever driven: it had all the feeling of a V8 but with more power and torque.”

\\\\\\\\

Mercedes-AMG made no mention of the CLA 45 reproducing V8 sounds when it unveiled the new car, only noting that it replicated a boosted four-cylinder. Of all the EVs we’ve driven that aim to replicate the sound of a fire-breathing combustion engine, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N has done the best job, so it’ll be interesting to see how good Mercedes-AMG’s system is.

The Seats Vibrate, Too

Mercedes’ CEO Says A Fake V8 Made Him Feel ‘Like A Born-Again Christian’

One particularly interesting feature launched with the CLA 45 is the new AMGForce shakers. These have been incorporated into the front seats and are designed to deliver vibrations that mimic those of a combustion car. We’re a little doubtful, however, that, no matter how well Mercedes-AMG may have worked on these systems, it cannot possibly have been “the best V8” Kallenius has ever driven.

In the performance stakes, the new electric CLA 45 has all the makings to be thrilling to drive. The automaker says it’ll hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.0 seconds and won’t stop accelerating until 168 mph (270 km/h) with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package. Thanks to the 94 kWh battery, it also has an impressive WLTP driving range of 416 miles (670 km).

MG Will Sell You A Three-Row EV For Just $14,600, Batteries Not Included

  • MG launched the Hector Tomahawk EV three-row SUV in India.
  • It is a rebadged Wuling available with EV and PHEV powertrains.
  • Prices start at ₹13.99 lakh ($14,600) for the EV minus the battery.

Chinese automakers have put out an average of 3.6 new models per day across the past five months, a pace that guarantees a certain amount of overflow into markets beyond China. The new MG Hector Tomahawk is one of those exports, a three-row SUV that has just gone on sale in India with a choice of fully electric or plug-in hybrid power.

The name suggests a relationship that does not exist, because the Hector Tomahawk shares nothing with the ICE-powered Hector. What MG has actually done is rebadge the Wuling Starlight 560, a model that broke cover in late 2025 and reached Chinese showrooms in early 2026.

\\\\\

Visually, the BEV and the PHEV variants are distinguished by the different grille and front bumper, each introducing small differences compared to the equivalent models from Wuling. The PHEV has a body-colored nose, a larger cooling intake, loads of black cladding, and an aluminum-style skid plate. The EV adopts a simpler and boxier face looking nearly identical to its Wuling sibling.

Regardless of powertrain type, the SUV measures 4,745 mm (186.8 in) long, has a 2,810 mm (110.6 in) wheelbase and a ground clearance of 230 mm (9.1 in).

The right-hand-drive cabin comes with two or three rows of seating. Cargo space is 610 liters (21.5 cubic feet) in five-seat form, dropping to 192 liters (6.8 cubic feet) once the third row is in place. The kit list runs to a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster, gesture controls for the touchscreen, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 256-color ambient lighting, and a 10-speaker stereo. The party piece is an AI-powered assistant with a karaoke mode and a library of more than 8,000 songs across multiple genres.

The Hector Tomahawk EV utilizes a single front-mounted electric motor producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS), with a 69.2 kWh battery allowing over 500 km (311 miles) of range while supporting 90 kW DC fast charging and V2L/V2H functions.

On the other hand, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV pairs a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine/generator with a single electric motor and a smaller 20.5 kWh battery pack. The combined range is over 1,100 km (684 miles), including 115 km (71 miles) on EV power alone.

The Battery Rental Math

\\\\\\\

MG

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV costs between ₹19.49 lakh ($20,400) and ₹23.49 lakh ($24,500) in India. Buyers can also take it under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme, which drops the entry price to ₹13.99 lakh ($14,600) and then charges ₹4.90 ($0.05) per kilometer (₹7.89 or $0.08 per mile) for the privilege of using the battery.

Meanwhile, the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV starts at ₹25.70 lakh ($26,900) outright, or ₹21.79 lakh ($22,800 / €19,600) under BaaS with a battery rental rate of ₹3.20 ($0.03) per kilometer. Deliveries for the EV begin in September, followed by the PHEV in November.

Jimmy Choo Put His Name On A $34,900 Chinese EV

  • The special-edition version of the IM L6 features blue accents inside and out.
  • Jimmy Choo has also crafted crystal badges for the IM L6 and blue leather.
  • IM Motors will initially limit production of the special L6 to just 1,000 examples.

Jimmy Choo is one of the most recognizable names in fashion, and now he’s brought his exceptional eye for detail to the automotive industry by creating a special version of the electric L6 sedan from the Chinese brand IM Motors.

Two variants of the limited-run edition from Jimmy Choo will be available, priced at 234,900 yuan ($34,900) and 249,900 yuan ($37,200), respectively. Although the models don’t benefit from any hardware or software changes over the standard model, we have little doubt they’ll appeal to fashion-conscious buyers who want to make a statement. An initial batch of 1,000 examples has been confirmed for production, though more may be possible.

Mercedes-AMG Teases An Insane SUV With Over 1,100 HP

  • Mercedes-AMG is gearing up to introduce their electric crossover.
  • The sporty model will follow in the footsteps of the latest GT 4-Door.
  • We can expect dual- and tri-motor powertrains with up to 1,153 hp.

Mercedes-AMG introduced the redesigned GT 4-Door in May and now it’s almost time for the company to unveil its SUV counterpart. As a result, they released new teaser images on social media this weekend.

“Built to challenge all you know,” the crossover coupe features a wide grille that is flanked by star-infused daytime running lights. They’re slightly less gimmicky here as the inner line is elongated.

More: Will More Power Than A Veyron Convince You This Electric SUV Is A True AMG?

Moving further back, we can see pronounced wheel arches and a long hood that flows into a rakish windscreen. They’re accompanied by a sporty roofline and an angular rear window.

The rear end appears to echo the four-door coupe, but we can only see a pair of circular taillights with integrated star graphics. This stands in contrast to the six found on the car.

While there isn’t much else to see, the cabin will likely feature a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display. We can also expect sporty seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a dual wireless smartphone charger. They should be accompanied by an ambient lighting system and a Sky Control panoramic glass roof, which transitions from transparent to opaque at the tap of a button.

\\\\

Powertrains should echo the car and this means we can expect a 53 variant with a roughly 106 kWh battery pack that feeds a dual-motor all-wheel drive system developing 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. This enables the four-door coupe to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of up to 155 mph (250 km/h).

The GT 4-Door 53 also has a WLTP combined range of between 424 and 503 miles (682 and 809 km). When the battery is low, a 600 kW DC fast charger can deliver 332 miles (534 km) of range in as little as ten minutes.

We can also expect a more extreme 63 variant with three axial flux motors producing a combined output of 1,153 hp (860 kW / 1,169 PS) and 1,475 lb-ft (2,000 Nm) of torque. It enables the car to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.4 seconds, top out at 186 mph (300 km/h), and have a range of up to 432 miles (696 km).

Mercedes-AMG’s Cheapest GT 4-Door Loses 625 HP, Gains Fake 6-Cylinder Soundtrack

  • Mercedes-AMG introduces an entry-level GT 53 4-dr with 536 hp.
  • All-wheel drive is standard but with only two Yasa axial flux motors.
  • Fake straight six soundtrack replaces simulated V8 on 55 and 63.

Love the look of Mercedes-AMG’s new electric GT sedan, but can’t live with the expected $170-220k price and don’t need a supercar-grade power output? Someone at Affalterbach must have been snooping on those prayers because a new entry-level GT sedan just rocked up and it costs 40 percent less than the flagship.

The new Mercedes AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe slots beneath the wild triple-motor GT 55 and 63 models, trading one electric motor for a friendlier price and a healthier driving range. While the 805 hp (816 PS / 600 kW) 55 and 1,153 hp (1,169 PS / 860 kW) 63 square up against top-spec Porsche Taycan Turbos, the milder, twin-motor 53 is targeting the less-bonkers Taycan 4S.

Related: 1,153 HP Not Enough? Mercedes-AMG Is Working On An Even Hotter GT 4-Door

Peak output falls to a Taycan-replicating 536 hp (544 hp / 400 kW) and a slightly superior 590 lb ft (800 Nm) of torque. Enough for a 0 to 62 mph (100 kmh) sprint in 3.9 seconds, or 3.5 seconds with 1ft of rollout. So it’s hardly slow in real terms, even if it looks it next to the 63’s 2.4-seconds (2.1 with rollout) stats.

Although the GT 53 makes do with two motors instead of its hardcore brothers’ three, it still gets all-wheel drive, torque vectoring, and the same adaptive air suspension as its bigger brother. Top speed is a modest 143 mph (230 km), but that can be lifted to 155 mph (250 kmh) with an optional AMG Driver’s Package.

Over 500 Miles Of Range

Mercedes-AMG’s Cheapest GT 4-Door Loses 625 HP, Gains Fake 6-Cylinder Soundtrack

Mercedes hasn’t changed the battery either. The GT 53 carries over the 106 kWh usable pack and 800 volt architecture, but deleting the third motor pays dividends in efficiency. Official WLTP range climbs to 503 miles (809 km) from the 55 and 63’s 435-ish miles (700 km), while DC charging peaks at a mighty 600 kW. Under ideal conditions, and presuming you can actually find a speedy-enough charger, Mercedes says that’s enough to add more than 331 miles (534 km) of range in only 10 minutes. Yes, you read that right.

The other big change is one you hear rather than feel. Instead of borrowing the GT 63’s simulated V8 soundtrack, the GT 53 mimics the character of AMG’s old turbocharged inline six. Mercedes says it recorded the real engine in painstaking detail before recreating its sound digitally. Simulated gearshifts also remain, complete with paddle operated manual changes for drivers who still miss combustion engines.

Doesn’t Skimp On Luxury

Mercedes-AMG’s Cheapest GT 4-Door Loses 625 HP, Gains Fake 6-Cylinder Soundtrack

Inside, little changes from the GT 55 and 63. You get a 14 inch central display, optional passenger screen, sporty seating, and AMG’s Response Control system that lets you tailor the powertrain’s responses independently of the selected driving mode.

The GT 63 remains the headline grabber, but at €196,350 (£159,870 in UK; US prices still TBC) it’s huge money, and the lower-ranking €154,700 (£120,095) still requires seriously deep pockets. At €115,430 the new entry-level GT 53 delivers much of the same style and enough performance for most sane folks, and for a whole lot less cash than its big brothers. It also undercuts the €122,000 Taycan 4S. Which would you pick?

Mercedes-AMG’s Latest EV Is Already Breaking Lap Records

  • Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 EV has become the fastest car in its class.
  • Electric sedan lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:32.070.
  • Car has a tri-motor powertrain producing 671 hp and 1,297 lb-ft.

The fully electric Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 was met with mixed reactions last month, so the company has decided to demonstrate its capability. There’s no better place for this than the Nürburgring, where the car blazed a trail on the Nordschleife.

When it was all said and done, the model crossed the finish line in 7:32.070. That means the CLA 45 is now the “fastest vehicle in its segment.”

More: 2027 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 EV Debuts With 3 Motors, 671 HP And A Vibrator

The record was set by Kevin Berger in Race mode, which is available as part of the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package. Besides the aforementioned mode, it raises the top speed to 168 mph (270 km/h) and throws in red or black calipers with contrasting AMG lettering. While the record breaking car appears to have been mostly stock, the company confirmed it was outfitted with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires.

The record was set on July 28 and Mercedes said it was made possible thanks to the CLA 45’s tri-motor powertrain. It consists of a front-mounted axial flux motor as well as two more located out back. The combination gives the car all-wheel drive as well as a combined output of up to 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and 1,297 lb-ft (1,759 Nm) of torque. Those are insane figures and they enable the model to rocket from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in three seconds flat.

Power is provided by a 94 kWh battery pack, which gives the sedan a WLTP range in excess of 416 miles (670 km). When the battery is low, a 330 kW DC fast charger can take the CLA 45 from 10-80% in as little as 22 minutes. If that’s too long, a ten minute charge can deliver over 168 miles (270 km) of range.

Other highlights include variable torque distribution and torque vectoring as well as an AMG Ride Control sports suspension with steel springs and three-way adaptive damping. They’re joined by a high-performance braking system, active aerodynamics, and a screen-focused interior. The latter houses a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display.

\\\\\\\\\\

2027 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 EV Debuts With 3 Motors, 671 HP And A Vibrator

  • Mercedes-AMG has introduced the new CLA 45 sedan and wagon.
  • Both feature a tri-motor powertrain producing up to 671 hp.
  • Hits 62 mph in three seconds and offers 416+ miles of range.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is officially underway and Mercedes-AMG used the event to unveil the new CLA 45 4MATIC+ lineup. It consists of a high-performance sedan and shooting brake with a tri-motor powertrain.

Starting with the latter, the cars have one axial flux motor up front and two out back. This gives the CLA all-wheel drive as well as a combined output of up to 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and 1,297 lb-ft (1,759 Nm) of torque.

More: Starry But Soulless 2026 Mercedes CLA Leans On AI And Electric Power

Those are impressive numbers and then enable the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.7 seconds with a 1-foot rollout. However, with a traditional start, you’ll hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in three seconds flat. If you keep the accelerator planted, you’ll eventually top out at 155 mph (250 km/h) or 168 mph (270 km/h) with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package.

The motors are fed by a 94 kWh battery pack, which gives the sedan a WLTP range in excess of 416 miles (670 km). That drops to more than 398 miles (640 km) for the shooting brake, but buyers will find an additional 2.1 cubic feet (60 liters) of space in the trunk.

When the battery is low, a 330 kW DC fast charger can take the CLA 45 from 10-80% in as little as 22 minutes. If that’s too long, a ten minute charge can deliver over 168 miles (270 km) of range.

Getting back to the motors, they enable the model to have variable torque distribution between the front and rear wheels as well as torque vectoring between the rear wheels. Mercedes says this adjustability delivers impressive agility, situation-based responses, and seamless transitions between rear- and all-wheel drive.

Buyers will also find an AMG Ride Control sports suspension with steel springs and adaptive three-way damping in the form of Comfort, Sport, and AMGForce S+ modes. There are also six AMG Dynamic Select Driving modes that adjust the response of the chassis, steering, accelerator, electronic stability control, and recuperation.

\\\\\\\\\\\

Speaking of AMGForce S+, it turns the CLA into a weird performance car simulator complete with “active seat shakers” and “authentic traction shift interruptions.” The mode also delivers an “original combustion engine sound” as the noise from the old turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is digitally reproduced. This makes plenty of sense as AMG owners are used to butt stuff and their partners faking it.

When it comes time to stop, the car relies on a beefy braking system that features six-piston calipers and 15.4-inch (390 mm) discs up front as well as single piston calipers and 13.8-inch (350 mm) discs in the rear. The model also has a regenerative braking system with five levels of energy recovery.

A Plastic Grin

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

While AMGs are known to be aggressive, the CLA 45 looks rather cheap as there’s a faux lower intake filled with plastic. It’s a bit of an eyesore, but it’s joined by a fully enclosed Panamericana grille that looks nice enough.

Buyers will also find star-infused headlights and a short light strip between them. If that isn’t bright enough, customers can upgrade to a continuous light strip and an illuminated grille.

Further below, there’s a unique front bumper and splitter as well as an active intake. The latter can remain closed at speeds approaching 155 mph (250 km/h) and this helps to increase range and improve acceleration.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Further back, there are sporty side skirts, flush-mounted door handles, and 19- or 20-inch wheels. The model also has a unique rear bumper that replaces traditional exhaust tips with diffuser fins.

More interestingly, the CLA is the first car in its class to embrace active aerodynamics. The sedan has a power-deployable spoiler, while the shooting brake adopts a roof-edge spoiler. They can be controlled automatically or manually.

Last but not least, customers can order Night and Dynamic Plus packages. The former adds high-gloss black accents, while the latter includes red brake calipers with black AMG lettering.

A Sportier Interior

\\\\\\\\\

The four-seat interior is instantly recognizable, but a tad less practical as the rear middle spot has been replaced by a shallow tray. That’s an odd decision, but the CLA features faux-leather and microfiber front sport seats with red contrast stitching. Customers can also opt for real leather, two-tone designs, and red seat belts.

Elsewhere, the model has unique aluminum trim, stainless-steel pedals, and AMG floor mats. They’re joined by a Nappa leather AMG Performance steering wheel, although microfiber and leather/ microfiber variants are also available.

We can also see an assortment of familiar screens. They include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display.

MG’s Go! Concept Wants You To Forget About The Mini And Renault 5 In 2027

  • MG’s Go! concept takes inspiration from past MGs like the B GT, 6R4, Metro Turbo and ZR.
  • Fat-arched electric hatch previews the production MG2 electric subcompact coming 2027.
  • Cyber Concept is a sporty-looking flagship SUV that’s less production-ready than the Go!

The Car of the Year-winning Renault 5 and its Mini Cooper E rival have proved that affordable EVs can actually have personality, and now MG wants in on the action. The British-born, but Chinese-owned brand is coming to the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed with two concept cars, one of which previews a Renault 5 rival called the MG2 on sale in 2027.

Called the MG Go!, it’s a compact electric hatchback that takes inspiration from a diverse collection of past MGs, including the MGB GT and MG 6R4 Group B rally car. Another less famous but notable car MG’s press bumf namechecks is the 2000s ZR, which was massively popular with young drivers thanks to its fun chassis, tough styling and low insurance and running costs. No doubt the brand is hoping the 2 will do the same 25 years later.

MG says the goal wasn’t to recreate the past but to borrow from it to build something with emotional appeal today. So while you can clearly see nods to the MGB GT in the face created by the grille outline and headlights, plus the shape of the C pillar, and the swollen fenders subtly tip a hat to the 6R4, the overall look is very modern, and hugely appealing.

\\\\\

The second MG concept coming to Goodwood heads in almost the opposite direction. The Cyber Concept imagines a large electric performance SUV flagship that’s definitely not aimed at young, cost-conscious drivers.

Ferrari SUV Vibes

MG’s Go! Concept Wants You To Forget About The Mini And Renault 5 In 2027

It’s supposedly inspired partly by MG’s record-breaking EX181 streamliner from the late 1950s, although thankfully it doesn’t resemble an enormous silver torpedo. Instead, the swoopy, muscular Cyber Concept bears more than a passing resemblance to a Ferrari Purosangue, while the taillights might look familiar to Hyundai Tucson owners.

While the Go! is primed to return as a production model in two years, it sounds like the Cyber is much further away from the showroom, lacking even an interior at this stage. And even if it does translate to the street, an MG spokesman told Autocar it might not be offered in the UK.

AMG’s New CLA EV Shows Its Red Calipers Before It Shows Its Numbers

  • Mercedes-AMG has teased the high-performance CLA EV.
  • Debuts tomorrow with sportier styling inside and out.
  • Car could have a tri-motor powertrain with around 500 hp.

Mercedes-AMG has teased a high-performance sedan, ahead of its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed tomorrow. The company isn’t saying much at this point, but promised the mystery model was designed for thrill seekers.

While the darkened teaser image doesn’t reveal many details, a little fiddling with the brightness confirms we’re looking at the CLA. Details are hard to make out, but we can see lightweight wheels and red brake calipers. Elsewhere, there’s front fender badging and what appears to be sportier side skirts.

More: The Baby AMG EV Just Got Real With Three Motors And A Secret Weapon

The automaker is staying tight-lipped, but spy photographers have snapped the high-performance sedan on multiple occasions. Besides the aforementioned tweaks, the car has a more aggressive front bumper and an active rear spoiler. We can also expect a sportier rear end to help distinguish the AMG variant from the regular model.

Interior changes will likely be minor, but should include sport seats and an AMG steering wheel. We can also expect special trim and upholstery. They should be joined by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display.

\\\\\\\\\\\\

SHProshots

We’ll learn full details tomorrow, but previous reports have suggested the car could have up to three axial flux motors from Mercedes’ Yasa subsidiary. If the rumor mill pans out, they could deliver a combined output in excess of 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS).

That would be a notable improvement over the CLA 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology. It has an 85 kWh battery pack, which feeds a dual-motor all-wheel drive system developing 349 hp (260 kW / 354 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in around 4.8 seconds, hit a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h), and have an EPA range of 312 miles (502 km).

AMG’s New CLA EV Shows Its Red Calipers Before It Shows Its Numbers

MG Boss Forced To Abort Livestream After Porsche Copycat Claims

  • MG executive ended livestream after relentless viewers accused new sedan of copying rival designs.
  • Company insists MG07 evolves classic MG styling rather than borrowing from Porsche or Xiaomi.
  • Need for low drag encourages similar shapes, though some MG styling cues do look very familiar.

Launching a new EV in a crowded market place is tough enough. Launching one that looks like another popular EV can make life even tougher as MG discovered when copycat complaints forced it to halt a recent livestream introducing its new MG07.

Chen Cui, who heads MG’s brand operations, hosted the June 29 broadcast to explain the styling behind the new fastback sedan. Instead, viewers repeatedly compared it to both the Porsche Taycan and Xiaomi SU7. According to Chinese media, Chen insisted the MG07 “does not plagiarize a single detail,” but became emotional before ending the session early.

MG wasn’t about to let the criticism stand unanswered. At a subsequent media briefing, Chen tried to reframe the debate by arguing that if the MG07 copied anything, it copied MG itself, Sina reports. He pointed to design cues from classic models including the 1965 MGB GT fastback, saying the company’s latest sedan is a modern interpretation of styling that’s been part of the brand for decades.

I can’t say I see much MGB in the MG07 but i can see plenty of evidence of the pressures modern car designers are under. Whether a car runs on batteries, petrol or a combination of both, maximizing efficiency means reducing drag.

That pushes designers toward familiar solutions including low noses, smooth body sides, flush door handles, sweeping rooflines, and tapered fastback tails. When everyone is chasing the same aerodynamic targets, there’s only so much freedom available.

Once you see it…

Still, it’s equally fair to acknowledge why some people made the comparisons. The MG07’s headlights have more than a passing resemblance to Porsche‘s own lights, some wheel designs also feel familiar, and viewed from the side the car inevitably bring the Xiaomi SU7 (itself a Taycan admirer) to mind. Those similarities may not prove copying, but they certainly don’t help MG’s case. The 07 is not ugly, but it is derivative.

Ultimately, this is becoming one of the defining design debates of the EV era. Physics is steadily nudging every manufacturer toward the same basic silhouette. The real challenge isn’t making a slippery car anymore. It’s giving that slippery car enough personality that nobody mistakes it for someone else’s.

AMG’s Silent 1,153 HP SUV Will Fake Gear Shifts And A V8 It Doesn’t Have

  • Mercedes-AMG’s EV SUV is a high-riding counterpart to the GT sedan.
  • A triple-motor setup pushes 1,153 horsepower to all four wheels.
  • Even the lesser GT 55 is expected to muster a thumping 805 horsepower.

Reaction to Mercedes-AMG’s new electric 4-Door GT has certainly split the room. Its gaping gob, rounded surfacing and unconventional rear have set the comment sections at each other’s throats. For all the prancing horses in this world, though, it could look a lot worse than it does.

AMG’s crossover will borrow heavily from the GT sedan’s aesthetic playbook. Our spy shot-based illustration reveals a taller, more practical body with a low-slung ‘Panamericana’ nose and a slim, full-width light strip. Large intakes, shapely front fenders and a heavily sculpted hood exude a go-fast presence.

In profile, a long wheelbase in tandem with a relatively low roofline cements a planted stance. Flush  door handles, large wheels and pronounced rear haunches also contribute to the look. Out back, the tri-circle taillights are housed in a better-resolved black panel than the GT sedan, and an integrated roof spoiler is more function than form. Whether it gains the sedan’s optional active ‘Aerokinetics’ rear diffuser remains to be seen.

The cabin will largely be copy-pasted from the sedan, with extra cargo space thrown in. Expect a 14-inch driver-oriented digital instrument cluster and a 10.2-inch infotainment display running Mercedes-Benz MB.OS software. The MBUX-based system also brings over-the-air updates, connected services, and AI integration.

Its higher center of gravity is kept in check with adaptive air suspension, rear-axle steering and active roll stabilization. Advanced torque-vectoring and chassis management help the sports driving experience.

Flux Power

Mirroring its sedan sibling, the electric powertrain will feature axial-flux motors developed by YASA, which are compact and lighter compared to radial-flux motors.

The headline act is the GT 63 tri-motor configuration, with 1153 horsepower (860 kW) and 1475 ft-lbs (2000 Nm) of torque. Power is fed to all four wheels, enabling a 0-60 mph time in about 2.5 seconds. The lower-powered GT 55 variant still offers a thumping 805 hp (600kW).

Power comes from a 106 kWh high-performance battery featuring cylindrical cells and advanced cooling. An F1-developed 800-volt architecture will support DC fast charging up to 600 kW in ideal conditions and offer a WLTP range of up to 435 miles (700 km). It will also feature synthesized gear shifting accompanied by a faux V8 soundtrack.

Rivals and Reveal

Mercedes-AMG’s flagship electric SUV will target the upper echelon of the performance market, taking on the Porsche Cayenne ElectricLotus Eletre, and Xiaomi YU7 GT.
