We knew Jeep’s first American EV was having a tough time, but this is something else. A nearly new Wagoneer S Limited 4xe just sold on Bring a Trailer for $38,500 after covering only 91 miles (147 km). That’s roughly $30,000 below its original sticker, and a sharp reminder that EV depreciation can be brutal.

On paper, the deal looks fantastic. The Wagoneer S packs dual motors, all-wheel drive, and a factory-rated output of 500 hp (507 PS) and 524 lb-ft (710 Nm) of torque. The quoted 294-mile (473 km) range from the 100 kWh battery isn’t amazing, but it’s tolerable, and the tailpipe-free Wagoneer is roomy enough for family duty and loaded with kit, making the auction result look like bargain-hunter gold.

This example was a Limited trim finished in white with Jeep’s Dark Appearance package. The Limited stickered at $67,195 including destination and before options, and this one came with a panoramic roof, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, surround-view cameras, adaptive cruise control, wireless smartphone mirroring, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and an Alpine nine-speaker audio system.

So it’s not exactly a stripped rental special, even if it is a rung below the 600 hp (608 PS), $72,195 Launch Edition.

So why the huge value crash? Because the Wagoneer S has struggled badly since launch. It arrived when automakers believed premium EV demand in America would keep climbing. Instead, the market cooled, incentives changed, and shoppers became more selective about price, charging access, and brand trust.

No More Tax Credits

The biggest blow came when the $7,500 federal EV tax credit disappeared last September. Before that, Jeep reportedly moved more than 10,000 Wagoneer S models across three quarters with the help of some big discounts. In the two quarters after the credit ended, sales fell to just 613 units.

Jeep’s response has been telling. The brand won’t build a 2026 Wagoneer S at all, instead skipping straight to a 2027 model. Stellantis says the pause will allow upgrades to battery performance, software, capability, and interior quality. It’ll also gain a NACS charging port for easier access to Tesla’s growing Supercharger network.

A better Wagoneer S is coming, but we still think whoever bought this one got an absolute bargain. If he can live with uncertain resale and a model facing reboot status, $38,500 bought him a barely driven 500-hp electric SUV with lots of equipment. That’s hard to ignore, even if the first owner probably wishes they had.

The shift to more screens in cars was supposed to be the wave of the future. We could customize them, enjoy cute little animations, and pack more info into them than anyone could dream of doing with an analog gauge cluster. Of course, an old-school mechanical cluster can’t disappear for no obvious reason during a drive. Over 20,000 Stellantis vehicles with a digital cluster might have just that happen, so the automaker is issuing a new recall.

According to documents put together by Stellantis and filed with the NHTSA, the issue potentially exists in 100 percent of the 20,271 affected vehicles built from March of 2024 through November 2025. 11,743 are Jeep Wagoneer S EVs, and the other 8,528 are Dodge Charger Daytonas.

Stellantis says it met internally about the issue on March 10, 2026 and worked with its FCA engineering team to understand what was happening through the end of that month and into April. On April 16, it decided to issue the recall but not simply because the gauge cluster was going dark. No, instead, it’s doing this because when the cluster goes dark it can no longer alert the driver to certain information.

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require that a car can alert a driver to issues with systems like the ABS, TPMS, ESC, and more. When the panel in a Jeep Wagoneer S or Dodge Charger Daytona takes a nap, it can’t tell the driver if there are issues with these key systems. As a result, Stellantis must recall the cars and fix the issue.

Notably, the automaker stopped well short of describing exactly what causes the panel to blank out in the first place. It appears that it’s entirely software-related, as the ‘remedy’ is quoted as “software,” in the filing. Dealers will simply update the cluster software, and that should prevent them from taking a break while the driver is driving.

The Jeep You Probably Forgot About Is Going Away For 2026

The Jeep Wagoneer S has been a perpetual disappointment and some dealers are offering discounts of nearly $25,000 to help move inventory. The fire sale enabled Stellantis to move 10,864 units in the United States last year, but sales have plummeted following the elimination of the federal tax credit.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, dealers only moved 438 crossovers. That fell to a mere 175 units in the first quarter of 2026 and that puts the company on track to sell a pathetic 700 for the entire year.

However, even that sad figure now seems optimistic as the Wagoneer S is going away for 2026. The story was broken by Automotive News and confirmed to Car & Driver.

While the slow-selling crossover is going on hiatus like the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, it’s coming back for 2027. It also promises to be a tad more compelling when it returns as a spokesperson said they’re “pacing production of the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S to support future improvements in battery performance, software, and capability.”

Those will be welcome improvements, but the biggest change appears to be the introduction of a NACS port. This will enable owners to access Tesla Superchargers without the need for an adaptor.

These sound like good developments, but the biggest hurdle appears to be price. The Wagoneer S starts at $65,200 and climbs to $70,200 for the Launch Edition, which features an increased output of 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS).

That’s pretty steep considering the Mustang Mach-E GT begins at $53,395 and can be equipped with the GT Performance Upgrade for an additional $1,295. While the Ford has a significantly lower output of 480 hp (358 kW / 487 PS), it’s slightly quicker than the Wagoneer S as it accelerates from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.3 seconds, compared to the Jeep’s 3.4 seconds.

Nearly 12,000 examples of Jeep’s all-electric Wagoneer S are being recalled in the United States, highlighting a quality lapse that arguably should have been caught earlier. Now, owners will need to visit a dealership to have their vehicles inspected and the faulty component repaired or replaced.

A recall notice issued by the NHTSA states that 2024–2026 Wagoneer S models may have been built with a liftgate hinge cover that lacks sufficient design tolerances. Stellantis explains that in some cases, the rear liftgate hinge cover may not clip securely into place and could detach from the vehicle, creating a potential road hazard.

Owners might get an early warning. The company notes that occupants could hear a rattling noise or notice that one or both hinge covers aren’t sitting flush.

FCA’s Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance team opened an investigation on January 8. Over the next five weeks, it worked with FCA US Engineering and Manufacturing to review production data and design revisions tied to the hinge cover, focusing on pinpointing the root cause of the issue.

Warranty Claims Start Piling Up

Jeep says that as of February 18, it had logged two customer assistance cases, 17 warranty claims, and 32 field reports potentially tied to the issue. In total, 11,767 vehicles are being recalled, all built between March 21, 2024, and July 24, 2025. The automaker estimates that 6.7 percent of them may actually have the defect in question.

The problematic component comes from Magna International, with owner notifications set to go out starting May 1. Dealers have been told to inspect the hinge cover and, if needed, repair or replace it with an updated version that stays put.

This isn’t the only recall recently issued by Jeep in the US. In February, more than 80,000 Grand Cherokees were called in for repairs because the rear coil springs may have been installed incorrectly as part of a previous recall. In this case, Jeep revealed the spring could detach from the vehicle entirely, presenting a serious safety risk.
