Porsche Turns Cayenne EV Coupe Into A Hypercar Hunter

  • Porsche is working on a hardcore Cayenne Electric.
  • Based on the Cayenne Coupe, it’s expected to be a Turbo GT.
  • It should be capable of producing more than 1,139 hp.

Porsche introduced the Cayenne Electric last November and the lineup will soon be expanded to include a crossover coupe. Spy photographers have snapped the model on multiple occasions, but now they’ve gotten a glimpse at the range-topping variant.

Tentatively dubbed the Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT Electric, the model follows in the footsteps of the regular Cayenne Turbo Electric. As a result, we can see a familiar front fascia with slender Matrix Design headlights as well as an active lower intake.

While the front end is familiar, the profile has a rakish windscreen that flows into a steeply sloping roof. They’re joined by a shrunken greenhouse, plastic body cladding, and five-spoke wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system with ventilated discs as well as sizable calipers.

The rear end is epitomized by an angular rear window and an upright liftgate. While this carries over from the standard coupe, the performance variant is notable for sporting a fixed rear wing. Further below, we can see a familiar bumper that echoes the regular model.

Spy photographers did not get a look inside, but do not expect any surprises, as it is unlikely to stray far from the standard Cayenne Electric. That means a 14.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a curved OLED infotainment system, and an optional 14.9-inch front passenger display should all make an appearance.

They should be joined by an augmented reality head-up display, an ambient lighting system, and a heating system that warms the seats as well as the armrests and door panels.

Electric Hyper Performance

The Cayenne Turbo Electric has a 113 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that normally develops 844 hp (630 kW / 857 PS). However, that number soars to 1,139 hp (850 kW / 1,156 PS) and 1,106 lb-ft (1,498 Nm) of torque when Launch Control is activated. This enables the crossover to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.4 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 162 mph (261 km/h).

Assuming this is indeed a Coupe Turbo GT prototype, the model should be even quicker and more powerful. This suggests we can expect a steep price tag as the Cayenne Turbo Electric starts at $163,000, while the gas-powered Cayenne Turbo GT begins at $214,800.

Used Tesla Prices Jump As Other EVs Crash Back To Earth

  • Used Tesla prices climbed after the tax credit ended.
  • Most other used EVs lost value as demand cooled.
  • The Porsche Taycan was the only non-Tesla EV to rise.

The loss of $7,500 federal tax credits should, in theory, have put every EV brand on an even footing, but Tesla and its customers decided to write their own script. While most electric car values have dropped since last fall, Tesla values are actually climbing.

According to a new study, used Tesla prices have risen 4.3 percent since the EV credit disappeared at the end of September 2025. Over the same period, nearly every other used EV dropped an average of 3.6 percent.

More: EV Sales Fell Off A Cliff, Yet New Car Prices Still Set Another Record

Because Teslas make up such a huge slice of the used EV pie, the average price of all used EVs actually went up 3.5 percent, painting a superficially rosy picture. Strip Tesla out of the equation and things look very different. Non-Tesla EVs slid from an average of $24,629 to $23,738. Meanwhile, used combustion cars dipped 2 percent.

Declining Share

Used Tesla Prices Jump As Other EVs Crash Back To Earth

The iSeeCars study also found that used EV market share fell 20 percent between September and January, dropping from 3.5 percent to 2.8 percent. A year earlier, that share had been climbing, but now it is heading the other way. The early adopters already have their EVs. Mainstream buyers are apparently thinking harder about price, charging, and range.

Look at individual models and the pattern gets clearer. Lower-cost EVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric, Volkswagen ID.4, Kia Niro EV and Nissan Leaf all lost between roughly five and six percent of their value. Meanwhile Tesla Model 3 and Model Y prices ticked up, as did those for the Porsche Taycan, the only non-Tesla EV to experience a jump in values.

New EV Prices Down

Used Tesla Prices Jump As Other EVs Crash Back To Earth

New EVs tell a similar story. Excluding Tesla, which iSeeCars doesn’t have data for, average new EV prices dropped 2.3 percent, while new internal combustion vehicles rose 2.5 percent. Some mainstream EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Chevrolet Equinox EV saw even steeper cuts.

Carmakers are clearly trying to replace that vanished tax credit with old fashioned discounting, but falling EV sales figures since tax credits disappeared tells us it’s not a complete fix.

Porsche’s Most Extreme Taycan Yet Exists For A Very Personal Reason

  • RS-style Taycan prototype now wears production aero parts.
  • Engineers chase Nürburgring glory after Xiaomi stole record.
  • Could make even more power than the 1,019 hp Taycan GT.

It’s eight months since Xiaomi smashed Porsche’s production EV sedan record at the Nurburgring, but 2026 is the year the Germans fight back. Fresh spy shots from northern Sweden show a vicious-looking, track-ready Taycan ahead of a new record attempt later this year.

Visually, this prototype has matured since we last saw it bullying the Nürburgring in September. The aero components, heavily inspired by the mighty 911 GT3 RS, now look less like prototype science projects and more like showroom-ready hardware.

The front splitter is a different shape and no longer held on with motorsport-style bars, and the fat arch spats designed to cover a much wider track now have cooling slots behind the front wheels. Less visible this time, though, due to this car’s disguise, are the saw-tooth vents cut into each fender top whose job is to vent air pressure built up in the wheelhousings.

Toned-Down Rear Wing

\\\\\\\\

SH Proshots

At the back is the same gigantic diffuser we saw on the last prototype, but here it’s paired with a different trunk spoiler. The latest wing looks less race-car-like, its end planes moulded into the overall shape rather than being bolted on. It’s more like the Weissach-kitted Turbo GTs but with an added lip, though it still rides high above the tail to grab as much of the passing air as possible.

We can expect some advanced chassis trickery under the skin and more power than even the 1,019 hp (1,033 PS / 760 kW) the Taycan Turbo GT delivers. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s 1,526 hp (1,547 PS / 1,138 kW) powertrain played a major role in helping the Chinese brand pull off a 7-minute 4.957-second lap of the Ring, beating the Taycan Turbo GT’s record by over 2.5 seconds.

Sub-Seven?

Porsche’s Most Extreme Taycan Yet Exists For A Very Personal Reason

Separately, a stripped-down prototype version of the SU7 recorded 6:22.091, and though we doubt Porsche’s new Taycan will beat that in fully road-legal form, it should become the first production EV to go sub-seven. We’ll find out in a few months when the weather is good enough for Porsche to try for an official timed run.

We’ll also find out if the hottest Taycan will get an RS badge to match those RS aero goodies. If it does, it’ll be the first EV to be granted those letters, and it’ll have a price to match. The Taycan Turbo GT already costs $243,700 with or without the Weissach package, so an RS is surely going to be close to $300k.

Porsche’s EV Problems May Kill Audi’s New TT

  • Porsche may cancel its electric 718 due to rising program costs.
  • Audi’s Concept C depends on the same shared EV platform.
  • Dropping the platform could delay or derail Audi’s sports car.

It’s a new year, and for Porsche, it begins with a leadership shakeup that might reshape more than just boardroom priorities. The brand has a new CEO, Michael Leiters, and within days of stepping in, he’s reportedly reconsidering the future of the all-electric 718 Boxster and Cayman.

That would be a huge reversal of course for the automaker, but here’s the real kicker: new reports suggest the unceremonious end of Audi’s new Concept C sports car before it ever reaches production.

Leiters has reportedly begun a sweeping review of Porsche’s operations as sales slump in China and profit margins took a big hit. One of the biggest question marks is the electric 718 program, which has been plagued by delays, ballooning costs, and battery supply issues following the bankruptcy of Swedish cell supplier Northvolt.

Insiders told German publication Handelsblatt that the battery issue has become particularly thorny, and finding a viable replacement would come with significant cost increases. Some within Porsche lay blame at the feet of former CEO Oliver Blume, saying he let the program’s problems drag on for too long.

More: Porsche Posts Its Biggest Drop In Sixteen Years

According to sources cited by Bloomberg, Porsche is now actively debating whether continuing development of the electric Cayman and Boxster even makes financial sense.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner has tied much of his turnaround strategy to a new halo model known internally as Concept C and rumored to revive the TT nameplate and centering much of its future design around it. And the trouble is that it’s engineered around the same Porsche-developed EV platform intended for the electric 718.

Can Audi Go It Alone?

The shared architecture was supposed to deliver cost savings and accelerate development. Without it, Audi may be forced to either shelve the Concept C entirely or buy and finish the platform independently.

Insiders told the German publication indicate that such a move could cost Audi a nine-figure sum. There’s no telling how long it would take Audi to sort out the development and get a production car ready to roll. Help isn’t coming from any other direction, either.

Volkswagen Group’s next-generation SSP platform, which will underpin most future EVs across its brands, isn’t expected to be ready before mid-2028. All of this is going on as Porsche is struggling to manage shifting industry sands. Sales of the Taycan have fallen off a cliff in China, and tariffs are making things a lot harder in the U.S. as well.

Porsche’s EV Problems May Kill Audi’s New TT

Projections for China, once Porsche’s biggest growth engine, have been cut from 100,000 units to just 30,000 to 40,000 in 2026, with the brand recently deciding to shut down more than a third of its dealerships in the country.

More: The Concept C Is So Close To Production Audi Got It Street Legal

Audi, for its part, publicly showcased the Concept C in Milan last September during a high-profile launch event complete with celebrity appearances. At that event, Döllner described it as “the first visible evidence of Audi’s transformation as a company.” He emphasized that the model marks a break from the brand’s past design language and lays the groundwork for what comes next.

Concept C is Key to Audi’s Lineup

That foundation isn’t limited to design either. The Concept C’s tech platform is intended to underpin Audi’s future lineup. Originally, the sports car was scheduled to launch in 2027.

The big question now is whether Döllner will stick with Leiters’ cost-cutting approach or push ahead with Concept C, even if it means spending hundreds of millions to take over and finish the platform on Audi’s own terms by 2027.

For now, both companies are staying quiet. Porsche says no final decisions have been made, while Audi declined to comment on the Concept C’s future.

Porsche’s New CEO Might Bury The Cayman, Boxster EVs Before They Even Launch

  • Porsche is slashing costs after pulling back on EV expansion.
  • Delays and rising costs have plagued both electric sports models.
  • EV-only plan scrapped as ICE options return to the 718 lineup

Porsche has spent years developing its all-electric 718 Boxster and Cayman models, recently retiring the outgoing ICE generation to clear the stage for the EV duo. But despite that long runway, a new report suggests the company may pull the plug on both models before they ever reach showrooms.

Michael Leiters, the former CEO of McLaren, stepped into his new role as Porsche’s chief executive on January 1. And according to unnamed sources cited in a new report, one of his first major decisions could be to scrap the electric 718s entirely, due to mounting development costs and repeated delays.

Porsche is under pressure to rein in spending after pulling back from its earlier electric-only strategy, compounded by a sharp 26 percent drop in Chinese sales in 2025. Bloomberg reports that the brand is now weighing the addition of a plug-in hybrid variant to its lineup, a move that would require fresh architecture and substantial financial outlay.

These changes could cause further delays for the next-gen 718 models, and if they do eventually launch, they might already feel outdated by the time they reach the market.

Read: Porsche Is Shutting Down A Third Of Its Chinese Dealers

Leiters has inherited a long to-do list from his predecessor Oliver Blume, who served as Porsche CEO for the past ten years. The brand’s EV pullback reportedly wiped out €1.8 billion ($2.1 billion) in operating profit last year. Meanwhile, new tariffs in the United States have added more friction, and Porsche’s recent market struggles led to its removal from Germany’s benchmark DAX index.

Carscoops contacted Porsche for comment. A company representative said Porsche was declining to comment on the “speculation”.

Changing Plans

\\\\\

Baldauf

The electric 718 Cayman and Boxster have already faced several delays. In early 2025, Blume revealed that Porsche was having trouble sourcing the high-performance battery cells it needed for the two models, in part due to Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt filing for bankruptcy. Sales of the two models were due to start this year, but this now appears increasingly unlikely.

Clearly realizing that it couldn’t put all of its eggs in one basket, Porsche announced last September that flagship versions of the next-gen 718 would be updated to include internal combustion engines, likely including replacements for the Cayman GT4 and GT4 RS, as well as the 718 Spyder RS.

Just a few months later, it was revealed that combustion options could also be made available across a larger proportion of the 718 model line, not just the pricey flagships.

When Porsche’s New EV Concept Gets Dirty, It Needs A Deckhand, Not A Detailer

  • One-off Macan Turbo Concept Lago debuts at German boat show.
  • Cabin features wood floor mats and marine-style fabric seats.
  • New 790 Spectre uses a Macan EV powertrain and makes 536 hp.

Porsche and boats have been flirting for a while. The German sports car brand already helped create a rapid electric speedboat with Austrian builder Frauscher. Now the partnership is back with a smaller boat called the 790 Spectre and a one-off, marine-inspired Macan concept to keep it company.

No, the Macan Turbo Concept Lago can’t jump from the road to water like a Gibbs Aquada or Amphicar 770. But it borrows some neat nautical design and trim ideas in the same way that the Frauscher’s boats have cribbed the Macan’s motors and battery pack. And it has some of the most stylish floor mats we’ve ever seen.

Related: Alfa’s Yacht-Winged Giulia Quadrifoglio Special Is Fast, Wild, And Already Sold Out

Porsche raided its Exclusive Manufaktur personalisation catalog and roped in experts from its Sonderwunsch “special wish” department to give the concept a distinctly salty vibe.

Darkteal Metallic paint, which originates from Porsche’s Paint to Sample programme, covers the outside while neat graphics tie the car to the matching boat. Even the keys wear the same color.

Swab the Floor Mats, Matey

\\\\\\\\\\

Open the doors and the nautical theme gets stronger. Real wood inspired by boat decks lines the front and rear luggage compartments and the floor mats look ready for bare feet.

A compass replaces the usual dashboard stopwatch and the seat centers use marine grade fabric trimmed with Crayon leather. Green contrast stitching finishes the look and proves Porsche’s trim specialists can customise almost anything.

Frauscher 790 Spectre

\\\\\

The Concept Lago is just a one-off, unlike the new Frauscher 790 Spectre it’s designed to promote. Engineers built the 7,970 mm (313.8 inches) sports boat around the same 100 kWh battery and dual electric motor setup used in the Macan Turbo, though Porsche quotes 630 hp (639 PS / 470 kW) for the SUV and 536 hp (544 PS / 400 kW) for its sea-going counterpart.

The hull is new and lighter than before and the cockpit borrows plenty of Porsche style touches, including the steering wheel and elements of the seat design. Buyers can personalise the boat with special paint and materials to mirror their car.

Orders for the 790 Spectre are open now, but the price is going to make a $112,700 Macan Turbo Electric look downright affordable. While neither Porsche or Frauscher has indicated an exact sticker, the fact that the earlier 850 Fantom Air cost around $600k tells us this one is for wealthy Porsche and boat lovers only.
