Mazda CX-6e Breaks Cover, Looks Like Our Kind Of Tesla Model Y

  • Mazda’s upcoming CX-6e has been spied testing for the first time.
  • The compact electric SUV is being developed alongside the 6e sedan.
  • It’s a reskin of the Deepal S07 from Chinese automaker Changan.

Mazda’s attempt at electrification hasn’t been great so far. The MX-30 BEV was criticized for its tiny driving range, and the CX-60 PHEV we ran for six months was as refined as crude oil. But Mazda could become a serious contender for EV buyers when the CX-6e arrives in the next 18 months to take on the Tesla Model Y.

These spy shots show the compact electric SUV, which Mazda teased last week, on test for the first time, and from what we can see, it looks very close to the Arata concept Mazda debuted in 2024. It’s got the same deep bumper design with an almost Cadillac-like grille treatment and a two-deck lighting arrangement, in which ultra-slim DRLs peak menacingly from beneath the leading edge of the hood.

Related: Here’s Everything We Know About the Mazda CX-6e

The rising waistline and relatively low roofline create shallow windows, which won’t be much fun for kids trying to see out but, together with the aggressively sloped rear window, do give the CX-6e an almost coupe-like appearance, particularly with the supercar-style openings in the C-pillar.

With the heavy disguise in place, there’s no way to see if this prototype has illuminated ‘Mazda’ lettering across its tail as the concept did, but since Porsche, VW, and others are already lighting up their brand marks, we doubt Mazda will want to miss out. Whether the production SUV also gets the concept’s illuminated lettering in the door sills remains to be seen. But the show car’s camera-based door mirrors have definitely made the cut, even if the street versions are a little chunkier.

Mazda CX-6e Breaks Cover, Looks Like Our Kind Of Tesla Model Y

Mazda can take credit for the way the CX-6e and its 6e sedan brother look, but not large portions of what’s going on under the skin. The duo has been developed around the EPA1 platform from China’s Changan, the same hardware already used by machines like the Deepal S07, a sporty SUV that went on sale in its home market in 2023.

If the CX’s dimensions match up with the S07’s, Mazda’s Model Y fighter will come in around 4,750 mm (187 inches) long and ride on a 2,900 mm (114.2-inch) wheelbase. Based on the S07’s spec, it could be offered with 68.8 kWh and 80 kWh battery options and a single, rear-mounted electric motor producing between 215-255 hp (160-190 kW / 218-255 PS). We’ll have to wait to see exactly what outputs and range Mazda’s version delivers.

Mazda CX-6e Breaks Cover, Looks Like Our Kind Of Tesla Model Y

Mazda has never revealed any interior images of the Atara but it’s safe to assume it will borrow heavily from the 6e sedan, which has already been unveiled in production form and features a high-quality cabin with a big 14.6-inch central touchscreen.

The CX-6e will be offered in Europe by 2027 and could cause more trouble for Tesla’s Model Y, whose moment in the spotlight appears to be over. But the fact that it’s made in China means this stylish electric SUV will be off limits to US buyers, who’ll have to wait for the electric SUV Mazda is developing by itself.

Porsche Testing 2026 Cayenne EV In Two Different Chilli Strengths

  • Porsche is testing a pair of Cayenne Electric SUVs in Sweden.
  • One of them has active aero flaps like the 911 GTS T-Hybrid.
  • Cayenne Electric debuts later in 2025, but ICE model continues.

Porsche already has one electric SUV in its lineup – the Macan Electric – but it’s about to give it a big brother in the form of the 2026 Cayenne Electric, which debuts late this year. Our spy photographers have captured a pair of prototypes testing, but far from being identical twins, they feature some important differences.

Both models are still wearing the fairly heavy camouflage we’ve seen on previous prototypes over the past 12 months. The disguise covers parts of the front and rear bumpers and the lower sections of the doors. But it doesn’t prevent us noticing that only one of the SUVs has what appears to be active aero flaps in the lower bumper, just like the ones seen on the new 911 GTS T-Hybrid. It also has a splitter attached to the lowest point of the bumper, suggesting it’s a performance version, perhaps a GTS.

Related: 2027 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Goes Electric In New Spy Shots

The other Cayenne doesn’t have the lower lip spoiler or the same active aero slats (though it’s possible they could still move). Instead it has a less macho bumper with horizontal bars and the ADAS sensor stands proud of the bumper surface, rather than being recessed, as on the other SUV.

This less performance-focused bumper appears to provide a better approach angle, so we could be looking at an off-road-themed Cayenne. That idea is backed up by the slightly flared rear arch lips on this Cayenne, which aren’t present on the one with the GTS aero flaps. Further confusing matters, only the non-flap SUV has boxy vents below its taillights.

When the full bumper disguise comes off we’re expecting to see a split headlight arrangement, just like the one on the Macan Electric and Audi’s Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron. Those three are based around the same VW Group PPE platform that will also be used for the Cayenne EV in both standard and Coupe forms.

Porsche Testing 2026 Cayenne EV In Two Different Chilli Strengths

Entry-level Cayennes will probably also share their powertrains with mid- or high-spec Macans, which feature a 509 hp (516 PS / 380 kW) bi-motor setup in 4S trim and 630 hp (639 PS / 470 kW) in Turbo guise. And given the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S serve up 872 hp (884 PS / 650 kW) and 939 hp (700 kW / 952 PS), we imagine the hot Cayennes will be similarly potent.

The Cayenne Electric isn’t the only EV Porsche is working on. All-new, all-electric 718 Boxster and Cayman sports cars are on the way, and were set to debut this year, but that launch could be pushed back to 2026 as Porsche grapples with a performance EV market that hasn’t matured the way it hoped when it began planning these models more than five years ago.

2028 BMW M3 EV Getting Ready To Shock M Fans

  • BMW’s 2028 electric M3 sedan has been spied testing at Germany’s Nurburgring.
  • Neue Klasse platform could have four motors, making 700 hp with potential for more.
  • BMW isn’t killing the ICE M3; today’s car will be updated and sold alongside the EV.

Automakers take all kinds of prototypes to the Nurburgring, including SUVs and minivans, because the 12.8-mile (20.6 km) track is as useful for testing a car’s endurance and its handling balance. But some cars absolutely need to work at the Ring because their reputation depends on it, and the 2028 BMW M3 EV is one of them.

The M3 going electric is a big deal, the biggest since BMW replaced the original lightweight four-cylinder homologation special E30 for the fatter, six-cylinder E36 that seemed more like a GT car in comparison. M bosses know the M3 EV will be scrutinized like no M car before it, putting M’s credibility on the line.

Related: This Is What BMW’s First Electric M3 Sounds Like

We’ll have to wait until next year at the earliest to know for sure how good or bad the electric M3 is, but things are looking positive so far. For one, the EV rides on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture, which debuts on the iX3 SUV later this year and will be rolled out to the 3-series in 2027 and the M3 a year later.

The M3 could also get a four-motor electric drivetrain with up to 700 hp (710 PS), an output that’s way down on both the 1,341+ hp (1,360 PS / 1,000 kW) BMW previously claimed its could squeeze from a future performance EV, never mind the 1,527 hp (1,547 hp / 1,138 kW) of Xiaomi’s record-breaking SU7 Ultra.

However, it’s probably going to feel ample just about everywhere except the looong final straight on the Ring, where you can never have too much power. A Hyundai Ioniq 5 N only has 641 hp (650 PS / 478 kW), and I never climb out of one of those feeling shortchanged.

2028 BMW M3 EV Getting Ready To Shock M Fans

And with torque vectoring capabilities and a new central control unit keeping the motors and chassis in sync, it might end up being one of the most fun EVs on sale, regardless of price and power. Mind you, it’s going to have some stiff competition in that regard from Alpine’s next A110 and the upcoming Porsche Cayman EV.

Disgusted that BMW is taking the M3 down the electric route? Don’t worry, the ICE M3 isn’t going anywhere, at least not for a while. Today’s CLAR-platform car will be made over with Neue Klasse styling to closely resemble the EV, and its inline six will gain mild-hybrid assistance to boost mpg and push power beyond the 543 hp (550 PS) of the current M3 daddy, the CS. Both will wear simple M3 badges, despite BMW having trademarked the iM3 name.

Hyundai Teases New Electric SUV In China That Looks Nothing Like The Ioniq 9

  • Hyundai’s first electric SUV for China will debut soon with unique styling.
  • The model appeared in a video teaser during cold weather testing.
  • Hyundai’s new R&D center in Shanghai is spearheading its development

Hyundai is preparing to unveil a new fully electric SUV, specifically designed for the Chinese market. This upcoming model, which remains unnamed for now, is a result of the Beijing Hyundai joint venture, and it recently made its first appearance in an official teaser ahead of its expected launch later this year.

The teaser reveals a camouflaged prototype of the SUV undergoing cold-weather testing. Despite the cover-up, we can catch a glimpse of distinct styling elements that set this SUV apart from the global Hyundai Ioniq 9, which is notably absent in China.

More: Chinese-Owned EV Brands Gain Momentum In Europe, Collectively Outsell Tesla

Even under camouflage wraps, the SUV’s design features some clear visual cues. The headlights are connected by a slender LED strip along the front. The rear sports a muscular shoulder line that flows into a more upright tail, complete with an integrated spoiler. Not to be overlooked are the full-width LED taillights, which stretch toward the sides, enhancing the SUV’s profile.

Hyundai recently opened an R&D center in Shanghai, dedicated to developing electric models specifically for the Chinese market.

\\\\\\\

Beijing Hyundai

While we’re still waiting for detailed specifications, it’s likely the new SUV will be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), which is shared across their Ioniq and Kia EV lines. This platform supports both single and dual motor setups and can handle battery packs as large as 110.3 kWh, suggesting this SUV could offer impressive range and performance.

More: Any Idea What Hyundai Is Teasing Here?

Currently, Beijing Hyundai’s offerings are limited to internal combustion engine (ICE) models, including popular vehicles like the Sonata and Elantra sedans, the Tucson L and Santa Fe SUVs, and the Mufasa SUV. The only electric model available in China right now is the performance-oriented Ioniq 5 N, imported directly from Hyundai’s global lineup.

We’ll get more details about this new fully electric SUV on March 28. Whether that will be the official debut or just another teaser remains unclear, but for now, the teaser video below will have to do.

Mercedes-AMG Wants You To Forget About The EQC With This New EV

  • The next-gen GLC will challenge rivals like the BMW iX3 in the electric SUV segment.
  • Sitting at the top of the range will be the GLC AMG EV pushing out over 500 horses.
  • It will ride on Mercedes’ MB.EA platform, supporting 800-volt charging for faster recharges.

Mercedes-Benz previewed the new all-electric GLC earlier this month, and now, our spy photographers have snapped a prototype of the AMG version during testing. While it’s still wrapped in that signature camo, there are some key visual differences that set this hotter GLC apart, and some intriguing updates under the skin.

This prototype is covered head-to-toe in white and black camouflage, but there are some notable differences between this AMG GLC and the regular model. The hood looks a little more muscular, and a different set of headlights, although these appear to be temporary units. The lights of the finished product should be very similar, or identical, to the standard GLC.

Read: 2027 Mercedes GLC EV Strips Away Bulky Disguise, Dons Stylish New Slimline Camo Suit

Mercedes-AMG has also fitted the electric SUV with distinctive new wheels, making the whole thing look a little meaner. Much of the rear end has been covered in snow, but there’s a large lip spoiler at the rear – but it’s clearly temporary, and won’t look like this on the finished model.

This all-new Mercedes GLC will replace the EQC and is one of the 17 new electric vehicles that Mercedes has promised to deliver in the coming years. When it hits the market, the GLC will square off with the BMW iX3, which itself is undergoing a complete overhaul for its next generation.

Platform and Charging Power

All new GLC models will ride on Mercedes’ MB.EA platform, a modular electric architecture that can handle 800-volt charging, with a max charge rate of up to 320 kW. This means quicker charging times and more efficiency across the board.

Unlike the outgoing EQC, which never got a full-fledged AMG version, the upcoming GLC EV AMG will bring the power in spades. The EQC’s AMG Line model topped out at 402 hp, but this new AMG variant will likely push over 500 hp, possibly even cresting the 600 hp mark with a pair of potent electric motors.

This Is The New 2026 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

  • A camouflaged prototype of the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio was spotted ahead of its 2025 debut.
  • The SUV appears to have a sportier stance, split LED headlights and three-spoke alloy wheels.
  • The Stelvio will ride on the STLA Large platform, and will be available in EV and hybrid forms.

Alfa Romeo is preparing to unveil the second-generation Stelvio, and we’re finally getting our first look at an actual prototype. Spotted testing in Europe, the tester offers a glimpse of what’s to come, with a debut planned for later this year ahead of a 2026 market launch. The new Stelvio, which will arrive in America as either a 2026 or 2027MY, promises to be a complete redesign, offering options for both fully electric and hybrid powertrains.

The prototype, covered in the usual Alfa Romeo camouflage, was spotted in northern Sweden, toward the tail end of cold weather testing. These spy shots come just days after Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili confirmed the Stelvio’s 2025 debut, ahead of its 2026 release.

Despite the heavy camouflage, the unmistakable outline of the signature scudetto grille peeks through, confirming this is unmistakably an Alfa Romeo. The front end seems to sport split LED headlights, with the upper units echoing the much smaller Junior, providing a subtle nod to the brand’s family styling.

A Sportier, Sleeker Profile

From the side, the new Stelvio shows off a more athletic stance, with updated proportions that give it a sleeker, coupe-like SUV silhouette. The prototype also rolls on three-spoke alloy wheels and seems to be a bit longer than the current Stelvio, especially between the axles.

The roofline slopes gracefully down to what looks like an integrated rear spoiler, enhancing the sporty vibe. The rear section all but confirms that the new Stelvio will feature full-width LED taillights with a triangular shape, as shown in an earlier teaser.

New Platform, Same Alfa DNA

The new Stelvio will be the first vehicle in Europe to sit on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, which already supports models like the Dodge Charger, Jeep Wagoneer S, and the upcoming Jeep Recon. This platform will be the foundation for more models across Stellantis brands in the future. For the Stelvio, though, Alfa Romeo’s engineers are likely aiming to retain the sportiness that the brand is known for, ensuring that this SUV doesn’t forget its performance roots.

Hybrid and Electric Powertrains

As for what’s under the hood, it has been officially confirmed that the Italian SUV will offer the choice between fully electric and hybrid units. While we don’t have all the specifics yet, former Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato previously hinted that the high-performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio could churn out up to 986 horsepower (736 kW/1,000 PS) in EV form.

There’s also speculation about Alfa Romeo borrowing the new Charger’s inline-six twin-turbo for the gas-powered versions, though nothing has been confirmed by officials.

The new model will also feature the STLA Brain electronic architecture, enabling over-the-air updates and more advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Our spy photographers even caught a glimpse of the cabin, which seems to feature a significantly larger infotainment screen than its predecessor.

We’ll learn more about the upcoming SUV as we get closer to its debut later this year. In 2026, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be followed by a new generation of the Giulia, which will take the form of a crossover fastback. Like its predecessor, the new Giulia will share the chassis, powertrains, and technology with the Stelvio.

Skoda Teases Electric Seven-Seat SUV Rival To Kia EV9

  • Skoda has dropped the first teaser images of its seven-seat flagship electric SUV.
  • The EV gets the Modern Solid design language from the Vision 7S concept.
  • Skoda is targeting SUVs like the Kia EV9 with the yet-unnamed Kodiaq-sized model.

Skoda had its best financial year ever in 2024 and the Czech company isn’t about to take its foot off the accelerator. On the same day Skoda revealed its record-breaking €2.3 billion ($2.51 bn) profit, it released teaser images of a range-topping electric SUV coming next year.

Sure to be the most expensive Skoda ever, the SUV – potentially called ‘Space’ – is expected to be a production version of the 2022 Vision 7S, a concept that introduced us to the Modern Solid design language that has since made its way onto the new Epiq.

Related: Everything We Know About the Skoda ‘Space’ Electric SUV

But the new model will be much larger than that little SUV, probably around the same size as the current combustion-powered Kodiaq, which is the brand’s biggest, most expensive model. Offering room for seven passengers, the new EV will take on the likes of the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9

The three teaser images are darkened shots of the front and rear, plus a close-up of the rear quarter, and don’t reveal the side profile or the grille details. But from what we can see of the hood, rear hatch, D-pillar, and T-shaped front and rear LED lights, it looks very much like an upsized Epiq. We’ve previously spied the SUV on test dressed in full camouflage; we’ve included those pics at the bottom of this post along with a Carscoops rendering suggesting how the SUV could look when it hits the street.

\\\

Skoda is expected to rely on the tried-and-tested VW MEB EV platform for the new SUV, and based on previous comments from Skoda, it should measure around 192.9 inches (4.9 meters) long, or 9.8 inches (250 mm) longer than the company’s five-seat Enyaq.

MEB tech would allow Skoda to offer single and dual-motor powertrains to keep the entry price low enough to stay true to the brand’s value ethos – the EV9 lineup also starts with a single-motor, RWD model. The 7S concept promised a WLTP range of 373 miles (600 km), which is far better than the 293 miles (472 km) VW promises for the ID.Buzz, which is based on the same MEB platform.

Skoda delivered 936,600 cars in 2024, up 6.9 percent year-on-year and the arrival of this large electric SUV in 2026 could help push the brand over the million-unit mark for the first time in its history.

2026 Mercedes CLA Debuts March 13 With More Star Lights Than Your Christmas Tree

  • The new-gen 2026 Mercedes CLA has been spied wearing less camouflage than ever before.
  • The four-door coupe adopts a streamlined design, but sports an awkward greenhouse.
  • It will be offered with hybrid and electric powertrains as well as front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive.

Update 3/11: Mercedes has just confirmed that the new CLA will make its world premiere this Thursday, March 13, at 7 PM CET (2 PM EST). Along with the announcement, the automaker dropped a few fresh teasers of the compact model, with a strong focus on the star-shaped lights. This theme seems to be a major design element for the CLA, as the stars appear not only in the head and tail lamps but also across the entire front grille, illuminated by dozens of small star-shaped lights.

\\\\

The redesigned Mercedes CLA has been a familiar sight for the past two years, but the model is finally entering the homestretch. It’s now celebrating by stripping down and showing some skin. While the front and rear ends are heavily camouflaged, the latest prototype has an exposed body. It’s immediately familiar, but incorporates some cues from the EQE and EQS.

More: Mercedes Details New CLA’s Two EV And Three Hybrid Powertrains

The changes are readily apparent as we can see streamlined bodywork as well as flush-mounted door handles. The greenhouse has also been completely revamped and it’s an awkward mess as the third quarter glass extends into the rear door. As a result, there’s mismatched lines and an unappealing mix of shapes.

At the ends, there are star-infused lighting units which have become a hallmark of the modern Mercedes. They’re joined by an evolutionary single bar grille and new bumpers.

The redesigned CLA will debut next year and ride on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture. The company has revealed quite a bit in recent months and has previously confirmed an electric variant with a rear-mounted motor producing 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS).

Customers can also opt for a 4Matic variant, which adds a 107 hp (80 kW / 109 PS) motor up front. It only has a ‘boost’ capability as the motor engages when extra power or traction is needed.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

SH Proshots

We’ll learn more about the electric powertrain closer to launch, but Mercedes has already confirmed the CLA has an 800-volt electrical architecture as well as a DC fast charging capability of up to 320 kW. The company also has plans to offer an optional 85 kWh silicon oxide battery.

If you’re not sold on the electric revolution, you can look forward to a new family of four-cylinder petrol engines. Americans will get a hybridized powertrain that consists of a 1.5-liter engine, a small battery, and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated electric motor. The engine produces 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS), while the motor contributes an additional 27 hp (20 kW / 27 PS). Front-wheel drive comes standard, but all-wheel drive will be optional.

Alongside the sedan, Mercedes is also developing the CLA Shooting Brake, the swoopy station wagon variant of the series. It’s set to debut later this year, though, like the current model, it’s unlikely to make its way to the US.

VW ID.2 Might Have A Shot In America, But ID.1 Is ‘Highly Unlikely’

  • Don’t hold your breath for a 2027 VW ID.1 debut in North America.
  • VW teased the tiny EV this week with the 94 hp ID. Every1 concept.
  • The larger ID.2, set to launch in 2026, might be considered for the US.

Volkswagen’s ID.4 sales have rocketed in the first part of 2025 and now the automaker is redoubling its electric efforts and readying a new family of smaller EVs. But while European VW fans will get access to all members of that family, it sounds like their American counterparts won’t get the chance to put the smallest of them, the ID.1, in their garages.

Earlier this week, VW revealed the ID.Every1 concept, a thinly disguised preview of the ID.1 (name TBC) production EV that goes on sale in Europe in 2027. But a year before that lands in showrooms, the German carmaker will launch the production version of 2023’s ID.2all concept, and this fall we’ll get a look at an SUV spinoff of that model, the ID.2X.

Will the USA Get Any of VW’s New Small and Affordable EVs?

However, when we asked VW North America if it had any plans to offer the ID.1 or larger ID.2 in the US, it was quick to tell us not to get our hopes up for the little guy making the cut. A spokesperson told Carscoops it was “highly unlikely” that the ID.1, which is sized between the now-dead Up! and Polo subcompacts, would be sold in the US.

The prospects for the ID.2, on the other hand, look rather better. The VW rep told us they “can’t confirm anything about the ID.2,” which isn’t the same thing as saying it’s definitely coming, but it’s no denial either.

Related: ID.Every1 Previews VW’s Cheapest EV

Which version of the ID.2 they were not confirming anything about, they didn’t say. The crossover model seems the most likely to get the nod given America’s love for utilities and general lack of enthusiasm for hatchbacks. But then the ID.2 hatch would be no ordinary hatch because it could tap into the love for the Golf, which has been a part of the US auto landscape for almost 50 years.

VW ID.2 Might Have A Shot In America, But ID.1 Is ‘Highly Unlikely’
ID.2X SUV to be revealed later in 2025

What Do These Small EVs Bring to the Table?

All three junior ID cars share the same new MEB platform, which, unlike the current MEB architecture found in EVs like the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.Buzz, features a motor at the front of the car driving the front wheels. The 3,880 mm (152.8 inches) ID.Every1, whose production version is expected to cost just €20,000 (£17k / $21k), is powered by a tiny 94 hp (95 PS / 70 kW) motor and can only travel 155 miles (250 km) on a charge.

The ID.2all hatch concept unveiled two years ago measured 4,050 mm (159.4 in), had a 223 hp (225 PS / 166 kW) motor and was claimed to be capable of 280 miles (450 km) – stats that would be fare more palatable to an American audience. VW is targeting a €25,000 (£21k / $26k) price for the production car.

So, if VW were to bring one of these smaller EVs stateside, which would you want to see?

2026 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake Proves Wagons Can Be Sexy Too

  • Our spy photographers caught the first prototype of the next-gen CLA Shooting Brake.
  • The model follows the example of its predecessors, adopting a sleek wagon silhouette.
  • As with the regular CLA sedan, it is expected to offer EV and hybrid powertrain options.

Mercedes is getting ready to unveil the all-new CLA in electric and ICE flavors. While the company has decided to cut down the number of its compact models, the fastback sedan will soon be joined by a Shooting Brake version, with the first camouflaged prototype making its spy debut in Europe.

Back in September 2023, Mercedes announced that its compact lineup would include the successors of the CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, GLA, and GLB, but not those of the A-Class and B-Class models. The CLA Shooting Brake is probably the most interesting in terms of styling, as it will keep combining the sleek design of the sedan with the practicality of a wagon body for a third generation.

More: 2027 Mercedes E-Class EV Mule Spied, Final Design Will Ditch Egg Shape

The pictured prototype has camouflage only on the front and rear ends. The front section will be shared with the regular CLA, including the low-mounted grille and the aggressive headlights with star-shaped LEDs. The same applies to the flush door handles on the profile, although the greenhouse and the roofline have been redesigned.

In this particular prototype, Mercedes has applied aluminum trim around the windows and on the slim roof rails, with the latter being another means of differentiation from the four-door version. Of course, the highlight of the Shooting Brake is the design of the rear end. The new generation adopts new LED taillights with oval-shaped graphics and an even smaller rear window.

Inside, the new CLA family will benefit from a digital cockpit running the latest MB.OS software with AI technology. The Shooting Brake is expected to offer a larger boot, together with a few more inches of headroom compared to the fastback sedan.

Hybrid And EV Options

Mercedes’ entire compact lineup will ride on the MMA architecture, which is compatible with both ICE and EV powertrains. Luckily, Mercedes has already detailed the powertrains of the CLA, giving us a good idea of what to expect from the CLA Shooting Brake

The zero-emission CLA will offer the option between a rear electric motor with 268 hp (200 kW), or an all-wheel-drive version adding a 107 hp (80 kW) motor at the front. Energy will be stored in battery packs with a capacity of 58 kWh or 85 kWh, allowing a claimed range of up to 750 km (466 miles). Given that the Shooting Brake has an aerodynamic body, it will likely achieve something close to this number.

More: Mercedes Teases Baby G-Class, Electric E-Class, And More, V8 And V12 Live On

The hybrid lineup will include a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine in 134 hp (136 PS), 161 hp (163 PS), and 188 hp (190 PS) versions, assisted by a 27 hp (20 kW) electric motor integrated within an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The hybrid CLA is also expected to be offered with optional all-wheel drive, or 4Matic in Mercedes Land.

According to our sources, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is expected to be unveiled by the end of the year. The market launch of the model is scheduled for early 2026. In total, Mercedes has pledged to unveil 36 new models by 2027.

Alpine A390 Fastback Shows Off Playful Chassis And First Interior Image

  • Alpine has released images showing its A390 testing near the Arctic.
  • First interior picture reveals same steering wheel as A290 hot hatch.
  • The Porsche Macan Electric rival makes its global debut on May 27.

Bouyed by a Car of the Year win for its A290 hot hatch, Alpine is building up a buzz about the next car in its reinvention plan. The Renault performance division just dropped a load of images of the A390 crossover undergoing winter tests ahead of a May 27 reveal.

Our own scoop photographers have snapped disguised A390 prototypes before, but never in such detail. These official shots give us up-close views of the aero bridge at the front end, showing how air is drawn in between the horizontal light bar and Alpine lettering and spat out across the sunken hood.

Related: Alpine A390_β Previews 2025 Electric Fastback That Really Doesn’t Want To Be An SUV

They also show the spine running across the hood and roof, the LED taillight design, the small trunk lip spoiler and give us our first glimpse of the A390’s cockpit. The single interior image reveal a chunky flat-bottom, leather-wrapped steering wheel that appears identical to the one on the little A290, which takes inspiration from Alpine’s F1 car.

In addition to the usual spoke buttons for cruise control, volume and voice control functions it features three switches designed to help you tailor the driving experience. A red button marked OV for ‘overtake’ on top of the right spoke and activated with a thumb press operates the power boost function (though on the A290 you can also get the same response by kicking the throttle past the detent).

Alpine A390 Fastback Shows Off Playful Chassis And First Interior Image

There’s a five-setting Drive mode button slung underneath the same spoke and, below the opposite one, a rotary dial to tweak the amount of regenerative braking. Just visible in the footwell in the background is a pair of sporty metal pedals, but annoyingly we can’t make out the shape of the dashboard or see the screens or seats.

These pictures also give us our first look at the the torque-vectoring capabilities of the A390’s triple-motor setup, many of the shots showcasing the crossover’s oversteering capabilities, which bodes well for its chances of giving the Porsche Macan Electric a run for its money.

Dimensions released by Alpine tell us that the 4,615 mm (181.7 inches)  long A390 is a little shorter, narrower and lower than the more SUV-shaped Macan, but the Alpine claims it will offer room for five passengers.

Mercedes-AMG Electric Super-SUV Will Beat Porsche’s K1 To The Punch

  • Mercedes’s AMG’s all-electric SUV flagship has been spied during winter tests.
  • The EV will battle the Lotus Eletre, Porsche K1 and Bentley’s upcoming crossover.
  • Under the skin is an AMG.EA platform that’ll also form the base for the next 4dr GT.

Slower than expected EV sales have forced both Porsche and Mercedes to renew their commitment to combustion powertrains, but that strategy shift won’t prevent the two companies delivering a couple of new electric flagships. And our spy photo team has just snapped AMG’s contender taking part in winter tests ahead of next year’s debut.

AMG released a ‘spy’ shot of its own and a brief video last December, both taken at the company’s test track. But this latest set of images show the electric super-SUV testing for real in northern Europe and give us a better chance to see the EV from multiple angles.

Like Ferrari’s V12-powered Purosangue, the unnamed electric AMG is more of a crossover than an SUV. It has a relatively low roofline, modest ground clearance, narrow glasshouse and a sporty rake to its rear window. Unlike the AMG-badged GLS63, the most expensive SUV in the company’s current lineup, the EV should only have room for two rows of seats.

Every one of the AMG SUVs you can buy today is a pumped-up version of a regular Mercedes product, but this one will be unique to AMG and was developed in-house at Affalterbach. It should measure around 5.1 meters (200 inches) in length, and offer plenty of room thanks to a circa-3 m (118 inches) wheelbase.

Mercedes-AMG Electric Super-SUV Will Beat Porsche’s K1 To The Punch

This prototype has placeholder lights at the rear and the fronts are shielded by camouflage but still give us a glimpse of the star motif DRLs below. It’s possible that rather than being built into a traditional cluster the individual light elements could be set directly into the bodywork, as seen on 2022’s Mercedes Vision AMG concept.

That concept previewed a Porsche Taycan-rivalling successor to the four-door AMG GT which will be built on the same AMG.EA platform as the SUV and share battery and motor tech. Fast charging courtesy of 800-volt electrics means fill-ups will be brief, as will zero to 60 mph (97 kmh) runs if the rumours of more than 1,000 hp (1,014 PS / 746 kW) are true. And we’re sure they are.

Mercedes-AMG could debut the SUV in 2026 with sales starting in 2027, which would potentially put it on the street fractionally ahead of its Porsche K1 rival.

Electric Genesis GV90 Spotted With Rolls-Royce-Style Suicide Doors

  • Genesis will sell the GV90 with both standard and suicide rear doors.
  • It’s unclear if all markets will get the coach doors shown here.
  • The new Genesis EV may use the same 110 kWh battery pack as the Hyundai Ioniq 9.

Our spy photographers snapped the all-electric GV90 undergoing winter testing in Europe last month, with the prototype looking fairly conventional, largely resembling other Genesis models. However, a far more intriguing tester has just been snapped in South Korea, fitted with rear suicide doors.

The red prototype in question was spotted on the back of a flatbed under a lot of camouflage and cladding. It’s rocking sporty gloss black wheels unlike other prototypes we’ve seen in the past, and had Genesis done a better job of covering up some of the bodywork, it may have been able to hide the fact it has suicide doors.

Read: All-Electric Genesis GV90 Luxury SUV May Look Something Like This Render

The most obvious giveaway is the door handles at the very front of the rear doors, much like you’ll find on a Rolls-Royce Phantom. Genesis engineers have also left part of the opening mechanism on full display.

As we’ve now seen the GV90 testing with conventional rear doors and these coach doors, it seems inevitable that both options will be available. What’s unclear is if the suicide doors will be an option across the entire GV90 line-up or if perhaps they will be only available on the most luxurious trim level. We also don’t know if all markets will receive the option of these doors, but we suspect some major markets will miss out.

Genesis is building the GV90 as a three-row SUV and may offer it in six- and seven-seat configurations. A six-seater, complete with a pair of captain’s chairs in the second row, could be the perfect candidate for suicide doors.

Underpinning all GV90 models will be the Hyundai Motor Group’s tried and tested E-GMP platform, much like the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9, with which the GV90 will share many components. It may come standard with the same 110 kWh battery pack as the Hyundai and Carscoops suspects all versions will be sold with twin electric motors and all-wheel drive as standard.

MG Teases 4-Based MGS5 EV, European Brands Reach For The Xanax

  • China’s MG has released two teaser images of its new MGS5 EV.
  • The SUV uses the modular scalable platform (MSP) from the MG4.
  • Debuting in the coming weeks, it should up MG’s cabin quality game.

MG is twisting the thumbscrews on Europe’s carmakers again. The British-badged, Chinese-owned company has teased its latest model, an electric SUV called the MGS5 EV that debuts this spring, and it’s not good news for the likes of VW and Stellantis.

The replacement for the MGZS EV uses the same modular scalable platform (MSP) as the MG4 hatch, a car that’s been met with rave reviews and is racking up huge sales in countries like the UK thanks to its temptingly low price. And at around 4,480 mm (176.5 inches) long, the new SUV is a significant 162 mm (6.4 inches) longer than the outgoing ZS EV.

MG released the Chinese version of this model, the ES5, in its home market last October, so we already know far more about than could be gleaned from looking at the two teaser images and scant details published as part of this week’s European teaser campaign.

Two darkened images (which we’ve lightened) have been released, one showing the new utility from the back where we can see a fat transverse LED light bar containing an illuminated MG logo that blends into a pair of taillights that wrap around the rear quarter panels.

The rear hatch door has a spoiler at the top and appears to have a tiny sedan-style notchback lip above the light bar with an integral molded spoiler. A second image showing the rear part of the car from the side reveals that the taillights form a Y shape and the door handles are the traditional pull kind, rather than the fashionable flush type.

MG Teases 4-Based MGS5 EV, European Brands Reach For The Xanax

And maybe it’s just us, but those alloy wheels look like they’re taking design cues from the classic Rostyle rims fitted to MGBs and Midgets in the 1970s. We’ve dropped the images of the Chinese ES5 in the gallery at the bottom of the page to give you a better idea of what to expect when the new EV debuts in Europe in the coming weeks.

MG didn’t release any spec numbers for the MGS5 EV this week, but for some context the MG4 range kicks off with a 168 hp (170 PS / 125 kW) single-motor powertrain driving the front wheels. That’s the same kit MG confirmed for the ES5 in China last fall. In Europe the MG4 is also available with a single 201 hp (204 PS / 150 kW) motor or in dual-motor, all-wheel drive XPower form with 429 hp (435 PS / 320 kW), and we’d expect MG to also one or both of those options in the SUV in the West.

If the MG4 falls down in any one area, it’s the interior, whose cabin design and materials, as well as its infotainment, still lag behind most European, Japanese and Korean rivals. But the automaker says the MGS5 EV will feature a ‘premium’ cabin, while still offering MG value. Given that the smaller ZS EV this model replaces starts at £30,495, we’d expect the MGS5 EV to start at around £32-34k.

2027 Mercedes GLC EV Strips Away Bulky Disguise, Dons Stylish New Slimline Camo Suit

  • Mercedes is testing new prototypes of the electric GLC that debuts in 2026.
  • Unlike earlier test cars, this one has no thick disguise on the hood and doors.
  • The 2027 GLC rides on the MB.EA platform and should handle 320 kW chargers.

Mercedes is getting ready to unleash an army of new cars over the next couple of years, including 17 EVs, and one of the most important is this, the all-new GLC EV. The compact electric SUV is due to launch in 2026, where it will engage in a showroom showdown with BMW’s Neue Klasse iX3, and spy photographers have just spotted it wearing very little camouflage for the first time.

Earlier prototypes of the replacement for today’s EQC featured a brain-scrambling black and white camo wrap under which were hidden various artificial lumps and bumps designed to make it hard for us to imagine how the finished SUV will look.

But these latest images show a more production-ready prototype with none of the disguise blocks on the doors and hood, and a stylish, calming camouflage pattern that looks like wind or running water. Strangely, it also manages to make the front end look a bit like an Acura’s. As our spy photographer says, the SUV seems to be dressed for some teaser photos to be taken, so maybe Mercedes is getting ready to start drip-feeding content like it has with the CLA.

We still can’t see the shape of the window line at the C-pillar, but this new dressed-down test car displays smooth sides, pronounced hips and what appears to be a large traditional-style Mercedes grille that rises above the line of the headlights and creates a bulge in the hood. It looks like Gordon Wagoner and the design team have been looking at Benz’s 1960s sedans and coupes for inspiration.

2027 Mercedes GLC EV Strips Away Bulky Disguise, Dons Stylish New Slimline Camo Suit

The brand’s new star-shaped DRLs are evident at the front, and though they’re not illuminated at the back, we’re sure they’ll make an appearance there, too, as they will on the 19 new or facelifted combustion Mercedes cars debuting by 2027.

Unlike models like the revised petrol-power GLE, however, the EQC replacement rides on a very different platform, the new MB.EA architecture. The upcoming electric C-class sedan gets the same gear, but the smaller CLA that debuts this year uses the MMA platform instead.

We’re still expecting commonalities between the two, however, including 800-volt electrics and the ability to handle 320 kW charging, meaning a 10-80 percent fill will take less than 18 minutes. The most efficient models should also be capable of traveling well over 400 miles (644 km) before needing to find one of those chargers.

Ferrari’s First EV Spied Up Close While Charging

  • Ferrari’s electric vehicle was spotted at an Ionity charging station in Europe.
  • The mule appears to be based on the Levante or Purosangue, hinting at a crossover.
  • It has a CCS charging port, staggered wheels, and what could be a charge status indicator.

Update 3/10: We’ve spotted another test mule of Ferrari’s upcoming electric car, set to be one of the brand’s first new models since the F80 halo hypercar debuted last October. The vehicle was captured undergoing additional winter testing in Northern Europe.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

SHProshots for Carscoops

We’re living in strange times as Ferrari is set to unveil its first electric vehicle on October 9 at the brand’s Capital Market’s Day event and a mule was recently spied charging alongside a Volvo FH. That’s some odd company, but they’re both expensive EVs.

Putting the strangeness aside, the mule appears to be loosely based on Ferrari’s own Purosangue or Maserati’s Levante SUV. This suggests the upcoming production model will be a hatchback-like crossover.

While you shouldn’t read too much into the vehicle’s appearance, the extended fender flares suggest the EV will have a wide track. Spy photographers also noted the mule has staggered wheels that measure 23 inches front and 24 inches rear.

Another interesting detail is the roof-mounted shark fin ‘antenna.’ While it appears black, it would occasionally flash green or red. This suggests it could be some kind of charging status indicator, but that’s just a guess.

Spy photographers also noted the door handles are as fake as the tailpipes as the doors are opened by a button. We can also see a Combined Charging System (CCS) port as well as a glimpse of the cargo area.

Ferrari has been tight-lipped about the upcoming model, but the company has a partnership with battery supplier SK On and they inaugurated their e-building last summer. The plant will build the company’s upcoming EV as well as models with hybrid and internal combustion engines. At the time, the automaker mentioned new electric motors that would be “capable of delivering Ferrari’s signature driving excitement.”
