This AMG Is Coming For Tesla’s Model 3 Performance

  • The 2026 Mercedes-AMG CLA has been spied wearing less camouflage than ever before.
  • The high-performance sedan has a unique front bumper and an active rear spoiler.
  • Reports have suggested the car could have a tri-motor powertrain with more than 500 hp.

The new Mercedes CLA EV hasn’t even launched in many regions outside of Europe, including North America, yet development is already well underway for the upcoming AMG variant. As a debut nears, the camouflage is starting to come off and reveal more about the high-performance model.

Starting up front, we can see a unique front bumper with large intakes. They’re joined by a new central opening, which features a unique mesh pattern. Additional details are hard to make out, but the model has a fully enclosed grille as well as starry headlights.

The styling makeover continues with sportier sides skirts and lightweight wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The latter are backed up by a beefy braking system, which sports red calipers up front. We can also see what appears to be AMG-specific badging on the front fender.

The rear end doesn’t look too remarkable at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals an active spoiler. We can also expect a modified bumper and diffuser to help distinguish the AMG variant from the regular model.

Spy photographers didn’t get a good look inside, but the cabin should have a minimalist interior with a sport steering wheel and a handful of special touches. We can also expect a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display.

Mercedes has been tight-lipped about powertrain details, but previous reports have suggested the car will have axial flux motors developed by Mercedes’ Yasa subsidiary. There could be a total of three motors altogether, giving the car a combined output in excess of 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS).

That should put it in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which delivers 510 hp and a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, along with a top speed of 163 mph (262 km/h).

Rumors have also suggested the AMG variant will have a unique battery pack and a “V8 Mode.” The latter reportedly replicates the sound of a roaring V8, as even Mercedes appears to be acknowledging that’s what people actually want.

AMG’s First Super Sedan Looks Ready To Fire Off Its 1,000-HP

  • Mercedes-AMG electric sedan shares styling cues with the 2022 Vision AMG Concept.
  • Sleek design includes unique LED lighting, spoked aero wheels, and active rear wing.
  • Combustion-powered AMG GT 4-Door will continue alongside new all-electric flagship.

Mercedes-AMG has stripped away some of the body cladding and camouflage of its long-awaited electric sedan, giving us our best look at the car yet. The car will push AMG into a new market and serve as a rival to the likes of the Porsche Taycan and Audi RS e-tron GT. So, is it worth getting excited about?

These new teasers show a prototype with a sleek and low-slung design that shares unmistakable similarities with the Mercedes Vision AMG Concept from three years ago. Like that car, the new electric sedan from Affalterbach has striking LED daytime running lights mimicking the shape of the Three Pointed Star. Similar DRLs are featured on the new CLA and will be added to other new Mercedes models, but AMG has enlarged them for this car.

There’s no sign of a traditional front grille, although we can see some slats towards the base of the bumper that will provide some cooling.

The side profile of the car is certifiably sexy and has been paired beautifully with tightly-spoked wheels that should also aid in aerodynamic performance. At the rear, this prototype ditches the ugly temporary lights of other recent testers and gets a pair of circular LED taillights, which again have the star motif. There will also be an active rear wing.

\\\\\

The Good Stuff

While both the Taycan and RS e-tron GT represented dramatic departures for both Porsche and Audi, both cars are excellent, and AMG had better be at the top of its game to make a compelling rival to them. All the signs point towards it being just that.

Underpinning the all-electric cousin to the AMG GT 4-Door will be the new AMG.EA architecture with a battery pack from Sila Nanotechnologies in the US and electric motors from British firm Yasa. Mercedes-AMG is reportedly pursuing a four-digit horsepower figure, giving it enough power to compete with the flagship Taycan and RS e-tron GT models.

Fortunately for those who still want a thunderous engine, Mercedes-AMG will continue to sell this new EV alongside the ICE-powered AMG GT 4-Door.

AMG’s New V8 Isn’t Just Coming Back, It’s Coming For Everything

  • AMG is developing a new flat-plane V8 with mild-hybrid tech for future models.
  • The EU combustion ban begins in 2035, giving Mercedes more time to build V8s.
  • AMG’s boss hinted the engine could appear in existing or entirely new vehicles.

Even as the auto industry lurches toward electrification with all the grace of a three-legged shopping cart, Mercedes-AMG is reminding everyone that the V8 still has a pulse. The German brand copped a lot of flak for turning the C63 into a four-cylinder hybrid, and raised plenty of eyebrows when it confirmed a pair of high-performance EVs for production. However, enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the AMG V8s we all know and love aren’t going anywhere, at least for the time being.

In fact, fans of AMG’s signature V8s can breathe a little easier, at least for now. According to AMG boss Michael Schiebe, there’s still a future for combustion engines, thanks in part to regulatory breathing room. With the European Union’s combustion ban not taking effect until 2035 and no firm ICE cutoff in the U.S., there are “some years to come with the V8,” he says.

Schiebe didn’t specify how many years the current engine might hang on, but it sounds like AMG isn’t just keeping the lights on. They’re actively working on a new generation of the V8.

Read: New Flat-Plane V8 Coming To Mercedes-AMG CLE 63, But It Won’t Sound The Same

Speaking with Car and Driver, Schiebe explained that the next-gen V8 could find its way into multiple future models. That’s opened the door to speculation, some hopeful, some wildly optimistic, that the engine could even make its way back into a revised C63.

“We are in the midst of developing our next generation of the V8 and I see a lot of positions within our existing portfolio, or maybe even new ones, where we could actually imagine to have a V8,” he said.

AMG’s New V8 Isn’t Just Coming Back, It’s Coming For Everything

We’ve known about the next-generation V8 from Mercedes-AMG for several months now. According to reports, it will ditch the cross-plane crankshaft of the current V8 family in favor of a flat-plane crank. The company is also developing the engine to work with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that could incorporate a starter motor into the gearbox, while also adding some extra power and better efficiency.

Schiebe reinforced the idea that AMG won’t go all-in on hybridization with this engine. In his words, they don’t “necessarily need to go that far on hybridization,” suggesting this new V8 will stay closer to its roots than some feared.

That strategy could also extend the life of models like the AMG GT 4-Door, which many assumed would quietly exit stage left as AMG’s all-electric performance sedan comes to market. But according to Schiebe, that might not be the case, at least not yet.

“Let’s see how long we continue with a GT 4-Door,” he said. “Maybe there is a successor, but I don’t want to speculate about that.”

So while AMG’s future is undoubtedly electric, the V8 isn’t on the chopping block just yet. If anything, it looks like the automaker is doubling down on its combustion credentials, if only for a little while longer.

7 Chinese And Korean EVs Outsold Tesla’s Model Y In Australia

  • Tesla was hoping the new Model Y Juniper would trigger a large increase in sales.
  • Kia’s EV3 and EV5 have been exceptionally well received by Australian EV buyers.
  • MG’s electric hatch and Geely’s budget SUV both outperformed several models.

Electric vehicle sales in Australia are shifting fast, and the usual frontrunners are no longer guaranteed a spot at the top. As more buyers look beyond the legacy names, newer players are gaining ground, especially those with sharper price tags and more features for the money.

In 2023 and 2024, the Tesla Model Y was comfortably the best-selling EV in Australia. However, new options from Chinese and Korean brands have led to a massive slump in local sales of the Model Y, so much so that in April, it was only the 8th best-selling EV in the country. Evidently, it’s not just in Europe where Elon Musk’s company is falling out of favor.

Read: Tesla Couldn’t Even Sell Its Model Y Launch Editions As Hundreds Are Sitting Unsold

Storming in as the best-selling EV by far in Australia last month was the BYD Sealion 7, according to a report from Carsguide. It is the latest addition to BYD’s Ocean series of models and undercuts the Model Y on price, starting at AU$54,990 (~$35,400) and topping out at AU$63,990 (~$41,200), compared to the new Tesla that starts at AU$63,400 (~$40,800) and AU$73,400 (~$47,200) for the flagship version. Last month, 734 Sealion 7s were sold across the country.

BYD Sealion 7

Next up is the MG 4. While it’s been around for a couple of years now, the electric hatchback remains popular with 363 units sold in April. This positioned it just ahead of the BYD Atto 3, with 355 sold. Kia’s newly-launched EV5 and EV3 have also been well-received by local shoppers, with sales of 342 and 336, respectively. The BYD Seal then shifted 325 units while the new Geely EX5 sold 325 examples.

Then there’s the Tesla Model Y. A total of 280 were sold last month, positioning it slightly ahead of the Tesla Model 3 with 220 sales. Rounding out the top 10 was the BYD Dolphin with 216 examples finding new homes.

Now, before you start thinking recent sales represent the imminent collapse of Tesla, it’s worth noting that throughout April in Australia, Tesla was selling a mix of the outgoing Model Y and the brand new version. As we can see from the official page, Tesla still has a healthy inventory of the old crossover.

Many shoppers are likely holding off on placing an order until the new Model Y lands in earnest, which will happen over the next couple of months. Nevertheless, April’s results will likely have some local Tesla executives a little worried.

Wider Market Trends

Australia’s total new car sales declined in April. A total of 90,614 new vehicles were sold across the country last month, representing a decline of 6.8% compared to the same month in 2024 and quite a dramatic fall from the 108,606 new cars sold in March.

This Not-So-Serious Fake G-Class Sold For Seriously Real Money

  • The Bodo G-Wagon is an electric golf cart inspired by the Mercedes off-roader.
  • A 2024 model recently went under the hammer at Mecum’s Glendale auction.
  • This zero-emission electric cart offers 80 miles of range, perfect for golf courses.

Mercedes is working on a baby g-Class, aiming to bring the spirit of the original G-Wagen into the compact SUV market. But for those who can’t wait, an even smaller version of the iconic off-roader is already out there – well, sort of. This replica features a tiny electric motor and lacks any real off-road capabilities, but it still manages to carry the G-Class look.

Meet the Bodo G-Wagon. Technically, it’s a golf cart, so you can’t exactly take this one for a spin down the highway, but you can cruise around golf courses or gated communities, places where an actual G-Class would probably be overkill, both in size and fuel consumption.

More: Mansory’s Garia Supersport Golf Cart

Recently, a 2024 model of this golf cart variant went up for sale at Mecum’s Glendale auction and, surprisingly, it fetched a decent amount. It’s not hard to see why.

The exterior is a dead ringer for the popular off-roader, but the tiny wheels and cartoonish proportions quickly give it away. No matter how many Mercedes badges you slap on the grille, it’s clear this is no true G-Wagen. Still, the seller insisted that this is “infinitely more stylish” than your average golf cart, claiming it will help you stand out from the crowd. Well, sure, it definitely will.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Mecum

Inside, the Bodo G-Wagon tries to mimic luxury in its own way. The saddle-colored plastic on the seats looks vaguely like leather from a distance, but up close, it’s clear you’re sitting in something closer to a toy car than a luxury SUV. The listing claims it comes with “the amenities of a full-size car,” if you count things like a fully digital cockpit, rear screens for passengers, A/C, and a rear-view camera as top-tier features.

There’s also the usual golf cart fare, like power steering, turn signals, running lights, and power windows, things that might seem surprisingly high-tech for your average golf cart.

Zero-Emissions, Zero Thrills

Despite the AMG badges, the Bodo G-Wagon doesn’t hide a roaring V8 under the hood. In fact, it doesn’t even have a combustion engine, as this is a zero-emission vehicle. A single electric motor delivers a modest 20 horsepower (15 kW), pushing this mini G-Wagen to a top speed of 35 mph (56 km/h). No 0-60 times here, and don’t expect any high-speed thrills either.

It runs on a 10 kWh lithium battery, giving it a range of up to 80 miles (129 km) between charges. Considering the largest golf course in America is only 4.7 miles long, this EV has plenty of juice for its intended use.

A Pricey Toy

And that brings us to the price tag. The Bodo G-Wagon sold for $31,900 at the Glendale auction on March 21st, falling within the estimated range of $30,000 to $40,000.

For that kind of money, you could pick up a used Mercedes-Benz G-Class from the 2010s – like a real G-Class, not this golf cart impersonator. Or, if you’re after something more compact, a Suzuki Jimny with a G-Wagen body kit might scratch the itch, though good luck finding one in North America.

Mercedes-AMG Teases Super Sedan, Is It The Next GT 4-Door?

  • Mercedes-AMG appears to be teasing the redesigned GT 4-Door.
  • The model will debut this summer and battle the Porsche Taycan.
  • It features a stylish new design as well as a high-tech electric powertrain.

Mercedes’ design department has been in a funk as for every hit, there’s multiple misses including the CLA, EQE, and EQS. However, another home run is on the horizon as the company appears to be teasing a sleek new sedan.

Mercedes-AMG isn’t saying much at this point, but they revealed “something big is coming” in June. The message was accompanied by a dark teaser image that shows a stylish sports car with a protruding nose and prominent headlights.

They’re joined by a rakish windscreen that flows into a dynamic roofline that continues almost all the way to the end of the car. We can also see muscular rear haunches and an expansive greenhouse.

While the company is playing coy, the performance brand appears to be teasing the redesigned GT 4-Door. Spy photographers have caught the model on numerous occasions, but it’s been heavily disguised so we weren’t expecting something quite so stunning.

The car is slated to go into production later this year and the company has previously confirmed it will ride on the “first dedicated electric vehicle architecture developed by Mercedes‑AMG.” It’s known as the AMG Electric Architecture (AMG.EA) and the model promises to be a “technological trailblazer, which will pioneer a number of new innovations.”

Details are few and far between, but the Porsche Taycan competitor is slated to have a high-performance battery as well as axial-flux motors. The model was previewed by the Vision AMG concept and rumors have suggested the range-topping variant could have around 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS).

MG’s Electric Sports Coupe Heads Into Production This Year

  • MG’s new Cyber GTS electric coupe features a fixed roof and a 2+2 interior layout.
  • The production version of the coupe will mirror the design of last year’s concept.
  • The 2026 Cyberster gets new colors, along with upgrades to its interior and chassis.

The MG Cyberster made its debut in 2023, but the SAIC-owned brand is already rolling out upgrades for the 2026 model year in China. Among the most notable additions is the new 2+2 coupe variant, aptly named the Cyber GTS.

Visually, the coupe will be nearly identical to the MG Cyber GTS concept that was showcased at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, though it will swap out the concept’s alloy wheels for something a little more production-friendly. While it shares much of its bodywork with the roadster version, the fixed roof and redesigned rear end make the coupe even more visually striking.

A Nod to British Heritage

The coupe’s greenhouse shape hints at the discontinued Jaguar F-Type, keeping alive the British tradition (even if it’s under Chinese ownership now) of sleek, performance-driven coupes. Without the need for a convertible roof mechanism and with a reshaped roofline, the Cyber GTS adopts a 2+2 interior layout, offering a bit more practicality than its drop-top counterpart.

More: MG’s Electric SUV Looks Like A Mini Land Cruiser With Pop-Up Headlights

Jozef Kaban, the company’s design chief, notes that the overwhelmingly positive reception to the concept was a key factor in MG’s decision to move forward with the production of the Cyber GTS. According to Autocar that spoke with the designer, the car is expected to launch in October 2025, potentially coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the classic MG B GT.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Alongside the new coupe variant, the MG Cyberster roadster is also receiving some upgrades. While the exterior remains largely unchanged (including the signature upwards-opening doors), the color palette has expanded to include two new shades: Iris Green and Andes Gray. Additionally, MG has introduced a special Cyberster Black edition, which boasts new alloy wheels.

Inside, the roadster’s interior has received a few updates as well. Upholstery options now include black/red and gray/white combinations, and new features include electric lumbar support for both the driver and passenger, a new wind deflector, and an improved voice recognition system.

Chassis Tweaks and Battery Improvements

According to Chinese media outlet Autohome, the 2026 MG Cyberster will also benefit from revised chassis tuning and improvements to battery life. However, there’s no word yet on any changes to the electric powertrain or the available battery options. For reference, the current model offers two powertrain options: a rear-wheel-drive setup with 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) or a more powerful all-wheel-drive variant with 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS). In China, buyers can choose between 64 kWh and 77 kWh battery packs.

As the 2026 MG Cyberster and Cyber GTS approach their market launch in China, we can expect more details to emerge, particularly as MG gears up to expand its “Cyber” series. Also on the horizon is the production version of the CyberX electric SUV, further expanding the brand’s electric lineup in the coming years.

MG’s Electric SUV Looks Like A Mini Land Cruiser With Pop-Up Lights

  • The MG CyberX concept debuted in China as a small electric SUV with rugged design.
  • The concept will be followed by a production version that could be offered in Europe.
  • It will ride on SAIC’s E3 platform with electric power and “cell-to-body” construction.

MG has unveiled the CyberX at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, and if you’re thinking “wait, I thought this was just another concept,” you’re not entirely wrong, but also not entirely right. This SUV, part of MG’s new Cyber series, which also includes the Cyberster roadster, was shown in thinly disguised concept form, as the production version is already on the drawing board.

Penned By The Bugatti Veyron’s Designer

The CyberX sports a boxy profile, with short overhangs and a clean, minimalist surface. The greenhouse bears a strong resemblance to the Toyota Land Cruiser Series 300, which gives it that rugged, outdoorsy vibe. The pop-up headlights steal the show, perched on the hood just above a full-width LED strip. The boxy wheel arches, chunky tires, and generous ground clearance round out the SUV’s stance.

More: MG ES5 Electric SUV Breaks Cover, Replaces ZS EV

Jozef Kaban, the man behind this design, is no stranger to high-profile automotive design work. Having worked with Audi, Skoda, Bugatti, BMW, Rolls-Royce, and Volkswagen, he knows a thing or two about creating head-turners. His portfolio includes the exterior designs of the Bugatti Veyron, along with more mainstream models like the VW Lupo and Skoda Octavia.

Speaking to Autocar magazine, Kaban explained that the CyberX takes a completely different approach from the Cyberster roadster, demonstrating MG’s versatility—though the whole “MG’s versatility” thing might still need to be proven in practice. He also mentioned that the pop-up headlights are an homage to the Ferrari Testarossa.

CyberX’s Size and Potential Competition

\\\\\\\\\

In concept form, the CyberX measures 4.3 meters (169.3 inches) long, placing it at the upper end of the sub-compact segment in Europe. Despite its similar size, the CyberX could coexist with the more conventional MG ZS and ES5 models, thanks to its distinct character.

While MG kept the interior under wraps, reports indicate that the CyberX’s connectivity tech is being developed in partnership with smartphone giant Oppo. If the blacked-out windows are any indication, the model displayed at the Shanghai Auto Show was more of a static prototype than a fully functional vehicle.

Production Version

MG has yet to reveal full specs, but rumors suggest the production version could be the first to use SAIC’s new E3 platform, an EV-specific architecture. This would mean the CyberX would be fully electric, with the potential for SAIC’s “cell-to-body” tech, where the battery becomes part of the structure itself for improved rigidity and reduced weight.

Beside China, the production version of the MG CyberX is also expected to be available in Europe and Australia. The timing of the launch has not been disclosed, though Chinese reports suggest it could be coming within the next couple of years.

MG’s Cyber SUV Might Be The Coolest Thing It’s Built Since The Cyberster

  • MG has dropped teaser images of a new Cyber X SUV ahead of the Shanghai Auto Show
  • Compact, rugged design features a squared nose, upright tail, and full-width LED light bars.
  • EV power is likely but unconfirmed; SAIC’s new E3 platform also takes hybrid powertrains.

MG’s Cyberster electric sports car helped make a splash for the brand, but it’s never going to sell in the millions. But here’s another Cyber-branded MG that might. It’s the Cyber X, and MG has just dropped teaser images of the boxy SUV ahead of its global reveal at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 23.

A series of silhouetted and darkened pictures show the second car from MG’s Cyber family from the side, the front- and rear-three-quarter angles. The X’s fashionably square nose and upright tail say this is a car designed for a younger crowd than the one usually seen in MG showrooms.

Related: MG Cyber GTS Concept Hints At Production Cyberster Coupe

A full-width LED light bar stretches across the Cyber X’s face, with an illuminated MG octagon mounted just below it and flanked by two smaller LEDs. The fenders are flared above the wheels, door handles are sunk flush with the door skin, and a pair of roof rails underlines the go-anywhere vibe. At the rear, the waistline rises to meet the chunky D-pillar, and there’s another full-width LED bar and illuminated MG badge rounding out the show at the tail.

We’ll have to wait until the day of the show to make a final assessment on the design, but from what we can see here, the mix of tech and tough will find the Cyber X plenty of admirers. It’s eerily reminiscent of the new Smart #5, which could be handy because the newly-launched Geely SUV is likely to be one of the X’s key rivals.

Tech details are practically non-existent at this stage, but Chinese reports say that the X will be one of the first cars to benefit from SAIC’s new E3 platform, which features cell-to-body construction where the battery pack is made part of the car’s structure in an effort to cut weight.

MG’s Cyber SUV Might Be The Coolest Thing It’s Built Since The Cyberster
Image: MG/SAIC

The E3 architecture is capable of handling both electric and hybrid powertrains, though right now we don’t know whether the X will offer both or only one of those options. A closed grille suggests we’re looking at an EV. Car News China claims the X will feature semi-solid-state batteries, advanced drive assist features, and sophisticated phone-to-car integration.

We’ll be seeing more than the Cyber X from MG during this year and next. The automaker is preparing to roll out more than half a dozen new cars, including a second-generation MG4, a revised Cyberster, and four EVs, including a pair of sedans and a pair of SUVs. Not all are guaranteed to come to Europe, but our hunch is the Cyber X will find it worth the trip.

‘IM Presented by MG Motor’ Might Be The Most Ridiculous Car Brand Name Yet

  • IM Motors will debut in Australia as IM Presented by MG with high-performance EVs.
  • The brand is part of the SAIC group and offers 400V, 800V, and 900V architectures.
  • Like other Chinese EVs, there’s no chance these models will come to the United States.

IM Motors is ready to enter Australia’s rapidly growing EV market, which, let’s face it, is already dominated by Chinese cars. However, the company is making a somewhat strange move with its branding: the vehicles will be marketed under the newly named IM Presented by MG Motor brand. We’ll let that name sink in for a moment—yeah, it doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue. But despite the curious moniker, the company plans to introduce two intriguing models locally.

The IM5 and IM6, which are already on sale in China under the names L6 and LS6, will be the vehicles taking center stage. There’s no official explanation for the name change in Australia, but what we do know is that both cars will be built in right-hand drive from the factory, thanks to a collaboration between SAIC, Alibaba, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech.

Read: IM Motors LS6 Secures 10,000 Orders In One Week, Offered With Up To 787 HP

At this point, IM Presented by MG Motor—yes, we’re still trying to get used to that—hasn’t provided many specifics about the Australian versions of these cars. However, it’s safe to assume that they’ll likely be very similar to the models already available in China. The sleek IM5 will serve as a rival to the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4, but is longer and wider than both of them, and has been tipped to start at around AU$70,000 (about $44,200 at current exchange rates) while topping out at AU$95,000 (~$60,000).

In China, IM sells the sedan and SUV with 400V, 800V, and 900V electrical architectures and 75 kWh, 83 kWh, and 100 kWh battery packs. Entry-level rear-wheel drive models pump out 290 hp (216 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm), while the flagship versions churn out a monstrous 776 hp (579 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm). The IM5 sedan can reportedly hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.74 seconds, while the SUV needs 3.48 seconds.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Like so many other new EVs out of China, the cabins of the two cars are very tech-focused and come outfitted with plenty of plush materials. Key standouts include a large screen on the console for the climate control, much like what you’ll find in a Porsche Taycan, and then a single panoramic screen for the gauge cluster and infotainment system.

There are also twin wireless phone chargers, cupholders, and several accessories, including a table and a large wireless charging pad that can hold devices or even reading lamps.

“We’re thrilled to introduce IM Presented by MG Motor to the Australian market, setting a new benchmark for luxury electric driving,” MG Motor Australia’s chief executive Peter Ciao said, according to Drive. “With cutting-edge innovation wrapped in elegant design, both the IM5 and IM6 deliver an uncompromising blend of performance, refinement, and range – offering drivers the freedom to go further in absolute comfort. This is the future of premium electric mobility, and we’re proud to bring it to Australia and further extend our EV offering to Australian drivers.”

Mercedes-AMG Wants You To Forget About The EQC With This New EV

  • The next-gen GLC will challenge rivals like the BMW iX3 in the electric SUV segment.
  • Sitting at the top of the range will be the GLC AMG EV pushing out over 500 horses.
  • It will ride on Mercedes’ MB.EA platform, supporting 800-volt charging for faster recharges.

Mercedes-Benz previewed the new all-electric GLC earlier this month, and now, our spy photographers have snapped a prototype of the AMG version during testing. While it’s still wrapped in that signature camo, there are some key visual differences that set this hotter GLC apart, and some intriguing updates under the skin.

This prototype is covered head-to-toe in white and black camouflage, but there are some notable differences between this AMG GLC and the regular model. The hood looks a little more muscular, and a different set of headlights, although these appear to be temporary units. The lights of the finished product should be very similar, or identical, to the standard GLC.

Read: 2027 Mercedes GLC EV Strips Away Bulky Disguise, Dons Stylish New Slimline Camo Suit

Mercedes-AMG has also fitted the electric SUV with distinctive new wheels, making the whole thing look a little meaner. Much of the rear end has been covered in snow, but there’s a large lip spoiler at the rear – but it’s clearly temporary, and won’t look like this on the finished model.

This all-new Mercedes GLC will replace the EQC and is one of the 17 new electric vehicles that Mercedes has promised to deliver in the coming years. When it hits the market, the GLC will square off with the BMW iX3, which itself is undergoing a complete overhaul for its next generation.

\\\\\\\\\\\\

Platform and Charging Power

All new GLC models will ride on Mercedes’ MB.EA platform, a modular electric architecture that can handle 800-volt charging, with a max charge rate of up to 320 kW. This means quicker charging times and more efficiency across the board.

Unlike the outgoing EQC, which never got a full-fledged AMG version, the upcoming GLC EV AMG will bring the power in spades. The EQC’s AMG Line model topped out at 402 hp, but this new AMG variant will likely push over 500 hp, possibly even cresting the 600 hp mark with a pair of potent electric motors.

  • Power comes from a 161 hp electric motor, allowing for a top speed of 99 mph.

The MG4 was one of the first modern Chinese EVs to achieve international success. Not resting on its laurels, MG has been hard at work developing a new generation, and these photos provide us with our first look at it. The brand could have been excused for simply updating the hatch’s lights and bumpers before calling it a day, but it’s actually redesigned the whole car.

Local data reveals the new 4 is slightly larger than the model it replaces. It measures 4,395 mm (173 inches) long, 1,842 mm (72.5 inches) wide, and 1,551 mm (61 inches) tall, and has a 2,750 mm (108.2-inch) wheelbase. This makes it 108 mm (4.2 inches) longer, 6 mm (0.2 inches) wider, and 35 mm (1.3 inches) taller than the first-gen, while the wheelbase has grown by 45 mm (1.7 inches).

The front of the new MG4 is nothing like the model it replaces. Whereas the current car favors sharp lines and aggressive edges, the new one is dominated by creases, curves, and has far fewer straight lines than the old one. There are new headlights, a different grille, new quarter panels, and a different hood.

MG’s designers have also crafted new door skins for the electric hatchback and, in these photos, it’s showcased with new 16- and 17-inch wheels. The rear end has also been transformed, and key highlights include a light bar, unique taillights, and a different bumper. The MG4’s taillights appear to have taken inspiration from the Cyberster and have lighting signatures in the shape of an arrow.

Powering the new MG4 is a single electric motor with 161 hp (120 kW), enough to propel it to a 99 mph (160 km/h) top speed. By comparison, the old EV came with a 168 hp (125 kW) motor in base guise, but weighed 3,617 lbs (1,641 kg), whereas the new one tips the scales at just 3,237 lbs (1,485 kg). It seems likely that a dual-motor XPower version will also be introduced shortly.

While the current MG4 has become a common sight on roads in many countries, it’s fallen out of favor in China. Shortly after its launch in mid-2022, MG initially delivered more than 5,000 units each month, but sales have crashed since the start of 2023. In February, just 13 examples were sold in its home market.

Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Could Be A 500+ HP EV With Fake V8 Sounds

  • The redesigned Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 could be a high-performance EV.
  • Report suggests it could have a tri-motor powertrain with more than 500 hp.
  • The four-door coupe is slated to have active aerodynamics and a “V8 Mode.”

Mercedes unveiled the redesigned CLA yesterday and new details are starting to emerge about the upcoming AMG variants. In particular, the CLA 45 could return as an electric vehicle packing more than 500 ponies.

While officials were understandably tight-lipped about the upcoming model, Mercedes Chief Technical Officer, Markus Schäfer, told Autocar that they have “established a second pillar when it comes to powertrains – keyword Yasa.” That’s a not so subtle reference to axial flux motors developed by their Yasa subsidiary.

Axial flux motors were expected to be used in high-end models, such as the AMG SUV, but they won’t be limited to the crème de la crème. Quite the opposite as Schäfer said they’ll  be “available to us across all model lines.”

Additional details are limited, but the publication suggested the CLA 45 EV could have a tri-motor powertrain with “advanced torque-vectoring properties.” Insiders have also indicated the car could have more than 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS), which would be a significant increase over the current model’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that develops 416 hp (310 kW / 422 PS). This enables the CLA 45 S to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in four seconds flat.

While the standard model has an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the AMG version will reportedly use an “oil-cooled battery that features unique cylindrical cells and chemistry for greater energy density.” We can also expect an active rear wing as well as a so-called “V8 Mode,” which could replicate the sound of a roaring V8.

Mercedes-AMG Super SUV: What We Know About The 1,000 HP EV

  • Mercedes-AMG’s electric SUV draws design inspiration from the Vision AMG concept.
  • Built on the AMG-EA platform, it will offer up to 1,000 hp from three axial-flux motors.
  • Expected to debut in 2026, it will directly compete with the upcoming Porsche K1.

Last month, Mercedes-AMG previewed the all-electric super SUV it’s currently working on. This new model is being developed alongside AMG’s first in-house electric sedan, and much like that car, is bound to court controversy. After all, many enthusiasts are accustomed to AMG models with thumping V8 engines, and this is partly why the four-cylinder hybrid C 63 has been a flop. However, the German brand believes electric is the future, and it’s cooking up something rather special.

Prototypes spotted by our spy photographers, along with official images released by Mercedes, were heavily covered in body cladding and camouflage, obscuring most of the design details. However, there’s a chance the EV, which is rumored to receive the GT SUV moniker, will have many similarities to its sedan counterpart that’s tipped to draw inspiration from the 2022 Mercedes Vision AMG Concept.

With this in mind, artist Nikita Chuyko created illustrations for Kolesa based on the test mules and recent renderings of AMG’s Taycan fighter, offering a preview of what the new SUV might look like. If it ends up resembling these images, it will certainly stand out in the Mercedes lineup, though we’re not entirely convinced it’ll be for all the right reasons.

The front of the SUV showcased here is dominated by a faux grille, which is to be expected in an EV, while the headlights are connected by a light bar. They also sport the Three-Pointed Star DRLs coming to a slew of new Mercedes models.

For as interesting as the front of this rendering is, the rear end is even more so. Taking cues from the Vision AMG Concept’s styling, it sports a wraparound LED taillight design, which brings to mind the Kia EV6 – an interesting choice, though one that works better on the Mercedes.

Power, Performance, and Ambition

Moving away from the design, the GT SUV is expected to mirror the size of the 2022 Vision AMG concept, stretching about 5.1 meters (200 inches) in length, with a wheelbase pushing over 3 meters (118 inches). That’s a bigger footprint than the gas-guzzling AMG GLE 63, putting it in the same league as the fully electric EQS SUV flagship.

Under the skin, the new AMG electric SUV will be built on the brand’s proprietary AMG.EA platform, featuring an 800-volt electrical system for faster charging and greater efficiency. It will also sport newly developed axial-flux electric motors from the British company Yasa, potentially delivering more than 1,000 hp. That kind of power will make it a serious contender against other electric crossovers like the Lotus Eletre R, which puts out 905 hp.

A release date hasn’t been announced yet, however it’s likely that the production version will debut in 2026, with sales kicking off later that year or early 2027, depending on the market, just ahead of its Porsche K1 rival. In theory, it’s a serious competitor for any luxury electric crossover, but its commercial success depends largely not just on its tech or power figures, but its design as well.
