Cupra hit the brakes on their American road trip, but the company isn’t resting on their laurels. That’s clear today as the automaker has introduced an updated Tavascan.

Set to be launched this summer, the updated model has a new entry-level variant that features a 58 kWh battery pack as well as an electric motor producing 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS). The company was coy on additional details, but said the model will deliver an “engaging driving experience” and have around 270 miles (435 km) of range.

There’s no word on pricing, but the entry-level variant should be significantly cheaper than the existing Endurance and VZ trims, which use a larger 77 kWh battery. Those models are also far more powerful as they’re rated at 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS), respectively.

Speaking of the Endurance and VZ, they gain a new Launch Control function. All models also appear to have a new one pedal driving mode, which applies the regenerative brakes as soon as you lift off the accelerator.

Updated Interior With New Tech

The changes continue inside as the Tavascan has been equipped with a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a new infotainment system running Android OS. The latter promises a more intuitive user experience as well as access to an assortment of popular apps.

Despite the focus on technology, Cupra is rocking it old school with a new steering wheel that has physical buttons. That’s a welcome change, but the touch sliders remain.

On the subject of climate control, the crossover has “new electric air vents that activate even before the driver enters the cabin.” As Cupra explained, the system detects the key approaching the vehicle and begins to pre‑circulate air. Once people step inside, the vents apparently adjust direction based on where they’re sitting and the position of the sun. The vents can also be controlled by voice command for “added convenience.”

Needlessly complicated air vents aside, the updated Tavascan has digital key technology that enables owners to unlock, start, and share access to the vehicle using a smartphone. One ‘key’ is reserved for the owner, while four others can be shared.

Buyers will also find a new premium audio system with Sennheiser Contrabass technology. It uses “psychoacoustic techniques to deliver deep, punchy low‑end frequencies” to deliver a “rich, enveloping soundscape.”

Other Minor Changes

On the styling front, there isn’t much to report other than a new Dark Void paint job. The purple hue is described as a “deep and expressive new color that enhances the sculptural presence of the Tavascan and reinforces its progressive identity.

Last but not least is a new vehicle‑to‑load function, which is enabled via a dedicated adapter that plugs into the charging port. It effectively turns the crossover into a massive battery bank.

Someone better check the plumbing as March has been full of leaks. The Rivian R2 snuck out shortly before its big debut, while images of the BMW 7-Series and X5 quickly followed.

Now, it’s Volkswagen turn as images of the ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI have surfaced online. Their original source is unclear, but they were eventually posted to Instagram before being removed. However, the internet never forgets so they’re still floating around cyberspace.

That being said, the images are hardly surprising as Volkswagen has been heavily promoting the models as part of an extensive teaser campaign. As you can see, the EV closely resembles the ID.2all concept, but features a more traditional grille and headlight treatment. They’re joined by larger door-mounted mirrors and less flamboyant bodywork.

The ID. Polo GTI closely echoes the regular model, but it’s distinguished by a unique front bumper with a sportier intake featuring a honeycomb mesh insert. The air curtains have also been replaced by vertical daytime running lights, while there’s a red stripe and “GTI” badging beneath the grille.

Volkswagen has already confirmed the model measures 59.6 inches (4,053 mm) long, 71.5 inches (1,816 mm) wide, and 60.2 inches (1,530 mm) tall with a wheelbase spanning 102.4 inches (2,600 mm). This is roughly the same size as the MQB-based Polo, but the interior is 0.7 inches (19 mm) longer and has additional headroom and rear seat legroom.

Buyers will also find a relatively spacious boot that holds 15.4 cubic feet (435 liters) of luggage, which can be expanded to 43.9 cubic feet (1,243 liters) by folding the rear seats down.

Speaking of the interior, Volkswagen has already revealed the cabin will have a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch infotainment system. The minimalist interior will also have a two-spoke steering wheel, physical switchgear, and a handful of metallic accents.

The ID. Polo will ride on the MEB+ platform and be offered with front-mounted motors sporting outputs of 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS), 133 hp (99 kW / 135 PS), and 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS). The ID. Polo GTI will arrive one year later with 223 hp (166 kW / 226 PS).

The 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS) and 133 hp (99 kW / 135 PS) variants will come equipped with a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and an underwhelming DC fast charging capacity of 90 kW. The other two variants embrace a larger 52 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery, which promises to deliver up to 280 miles (450 km) of range. These versions also have a higher 130 kW DC fast charging capability.

The ID. Polo lineup will debut shortly and Volkswagen has previously said pricing will start around €25,000 ($28,810).

Hyundai CEO José Muñoz used the company’s annual shareholders meeting to reveal an accelerated North American growth strategy. It calls for launching 36 all-new or “significantly enhanced” vehicles in Canada, Mexico, and the United States between 2026 and 2030.

The automaker didn’t go into many specifics, but confirmed we can expect commercial vehicles as well as cars, trucks, and SUVs. There will also be a mix of “core models and expanded trims” as well as new XRT and N variants.

While Hyundai has bet heavily on EVs, they’re not putting all their eggs in one basket. Quite the opposite as they promised a “broad mix” of powertrains that will include gas and hybrid options as well as battery and range-extended EVs. This is designed to meet “evolving customer demands across the region,” which is codeword for slower than expected electric vehicle adoption.

Muñoz alluded to this as he said, “By expanding our product portfolio and offering a wider range of powertrains in North America, we’re giving customers more choice while continuing to strengthen our long‑term investment in U.S. manufacturing, jobs, and the broader automotive ecosystem.”

Speaking of the latter, Hyundai aims to have more than 80% of vehicles sold in the United States assembled domestically by 2030. The automaker also wants to increase U.S. parts content from around 60% to 80% by the end of the decade.

What’s Coming?

The automaker was tight-lipped on what to expect, but spy photographers have already snapped an assortment of upcoming models including the redesigned Tucson and Elantra. The company is also working on a facelifted Santa Fe, while a larger truck is expected to replace the Santa Cruz.

On top of those models, Hyundai and General Motors have teamed up to jointly develop five new vehicles including an electric commercial van for North America.

Spy photographers have snapped the Mercedes E-Class EQ on multiple occasions and now they’ve gotten the first glimpse of the AMG variant. It’ll replace the slow-selling AMG EQE and feature a more conventional, and arguably safer, design direction.

Speaking of which, we can see the car will have a fully enclosed grille that should echo the one found on the C-Class and GLC EQs. We can also expect a sporty front bumper as well as star-infused headlights on the production model.

Moving further back, there are lightweight AMG wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system with cross drilled discs. Designers also gave the car streamlined bodywork and a more traditional sedan silhouette. A closer inspection reveals extended fender flares, which likely hint at a wider track.

Elsewhere, the early prototype has a makeshift rear spoiler and temporary taillights. We can also get a glimpse of a sportier rear diffuser.

Spy photographers haven’t gotten a good look inside the E-Class EQ, but the model could follow in the footsteps of the electric GLC. If that’s the case, we can expect a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment system. The crossover also offers an MBUX Superscreen, which adds a 14-inch front passenger display. If that isn’t enough digital real estate, the MBUX Hyperscreen boasts a 39.1-inch display that spans the width of the dashboard.

Performance specifications remain a mystery, but the model will ride on the MB.EA platform and have a lot in common with the GLC EV. The crossover’s AMG variant is rumored to have three Yasa axial flux motors developing as much as 939 hp (700 kW / 952 PS).

That sounds like overkill, but there’s little doubt the upcoming model will easily eclipse the AMG EQE. As a refresher, it has a 90.6 kWh battery pack as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of up to 668 hp (498 kW / 677 PS) and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.2 seconds, but the car has a dismal EPA range of 220 miles (354 km).

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Land Rover must be blushing as Geely is gearing up to introduce the new Zhanjian 700. It apes the Defender and is being billed as an “AI all-terrain hardcore SUV.”

The automaker isn’t saying much at this point, but the model was previewed by a concept at last year’s Shanghai auto show and looks more British than Chinese. The similarities are striking as both models have rectangular headlights with circular daytime running lights. The 700 even incorporates the Defender’s single bar grille, although here it’s illuminated and features a logo in the center.

The design déjà vu continues further back as we can see familiar body work and similar front fender vents. They’re joined by plastic body cladding and a Defender-esque greenhouse. That being said, the 700 eschews Land Rover’s side-mounted panel and features a beltline that kicks up at the rear doors.

Rounding out the highlights are a contrasting white roof, two-tone wheels, and a rear-mounted spare tire carrier. The model also has blacked out pillars as well as a roof rack.

The interior image isn’t very revealing, but we can see a lever-style shifter with a leather grab handle. It’s flanked by two metallic controls and one of them could be the drive mode selector.

While that remains to be seen, the 700 has high quality switchgear and a row of dedicated off-road buttons. This appears to include a ride height selector, a 4L button, and a locking rear diff.

Geely was tight-lipped on specifics, but said the model has an integrated frame as well as a tri-motor four-wheel drive system for “intelligent electric performance.” While that implies the vehicle is fully electric, that might not be the case as there are doors on both sides of the rear fenders.

One of them could be a charging port, while the other is for the gas tank. This would make sense as previous reports have suggested the model could have a 1.5- or 2.0-liter engine as well as a 70 kWh battery pack.

While a number of questions remain, the Zhanjian 700 will likely debut at Auto China next month. We can expect to learn more then, but Geely hinted the SUV won’t be cheap as it will compete in the “high-end off-road segment” and deliver “flagship-level performance.”

Mercedes introduced the VLE earlier this month and now they’re teasing the luxurious new VLS. However, they went a step further and confirmed the range-topping van will be getting a Maybach variant.

The company isn’t saying much at this point, but teased the model will elevate their “grand limousines [vans] into the realm of sophisticated luxury.” They went on to suggest the model will combine “timeless elegance” with a “first-class interior, a new level of digital sophistication, and an exceptional rear-seat experience.”

Speaking of the rear seats, Mercedes hinted at an “extraordinary private lounge” that has luxurious materials, impeccable craftsmanship, and exquisite design details. That’s not much to go on, but the VLE offers private jet-style seats with a foot rest, pillow, and an integrated wireless phone charger.

The fancy seats will likely be joined by a center console, refrigerated compartment, and a high-tech entertainment system. If the Vision V concept is any indication, the model could have a 65-inch display as well as a 42-speaker premium audio system. We can also expect wood trim, metallic accents, and premium leather.

Vision V Concept

Little else is known about the model at this point, but the VLS will presumably be larger than the VLE. If that’s the case, this certainly isn’t a ‘minivan’ as the former measures 209.0 inches (5,309 mm) long, 78.7 inches (1,999 mm) wide, and 76.5 inches (1,943 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 131.6 inches (3,342 mm). An even larger VLE is also coming with a 138.5-inch (3,517 mm) wheelbase and an overall length of 215.9 inches (5,484 mm).

Powertrain details remain a mystery, but could echo higher-end versions of the VLE. This suggests the VLS could have a roughly 115 kWh battery pack as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of 409 hp (305 kW / 415 PS).

We can also expect 800-volt technology and a 300+ kW DC fast charging capability. Other highlights will likely include an AirMatic air suspension and a rear-axle steering system.

The 2027 Nissan Z and Volkswagen Atlas are getting some company as Subaru has announced plans to introduce a new three-row, electric crossover at the New York Auto Show. It debuts on April Fool’s Day, but it’s real and it will pack a 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) punch.

Subaru isn’t saying much, but there’s little doubt the model will be yet another badge engineered vehicle shared with Toyota. This will make four of them and the latest should follow in the footsteps of the redesigned Highlander.

While the automaker is playing coy, they released a teaser image revealing a familiar front end that echoes the Solterra, Trailseeker, and Uncharted. Details are hard to make out, but we can see split lighting units and an illuminated logo. They’re joined by a roof rack and a shark fin antenna.

That’s not a lot to go on, but the Highlander has 77- and 95.8 kWh battery packs as well as a choice of front- and all-wheel drive. The former has 221 hp (165 kW / 224 PS), while the latter develops 338 hp (252 kW / 343 PS). These setups enable the crossover to offer ranges of between 270 and 320 miles (435 and 515 km).

We can also expect a NACS port as well as a DC fast charging capability that can take the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. A dual-level 120V/240V charging cable should also be included as well.

Powertrain aside, we can expect a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment system. They should be accompanied by a six-speaker audio system and a 64-color ambient lighting system.

The 2027 Toyota Highlander lands late this year, so expect the new Subaru to arrive around then as well.

Rivian introduced the highly anticipated R2 last week and a lot of people got sticker shock. While the company had promised a starting price of around $45,000, the launch model costs $57,990.

Price, Performance And Range

That’s significantly more expensive than expected, but it looks like a bargain compared to the 2026 Jeep Recon. It starts at $65,000 and has a 100 kWh battery pack that feeds a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 650 hp (485 kW / 659 PS) and 620 lb-ft (840 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in as little as 3.6 seconds and travel up to 230 miles (370 km) on a single charge in Moab trim.

The R2, on the other hand, has an 87.9 kWh battery and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 656 hp (489 kW / 665 PS) and 609 lb-ft (825 Nm) of torque. Those numbers are nearly identical to the Jeep and so is the 0–60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 3.6 seconds.

The models also offer a similar recharging experience as the Recon’s battery goes from 5-80% in around 28 minutes, while the R2 goes from 10-80% in as little as 29 minutes. However, there’s a big difference as the R2 Performance has 330 miles (531 km) of range. That’s 100 miles (161 km) more than the Recon Moab and 80 miles (129 km) more than future versions of the SUV.

Off-Road Chops

Speaking of capability, the Recon Moab has 9.1 inches (231 mm) of ground clearance as well as approach, departure, and breakover angles of 33.8, 33.1, and 23.3 degrees. While the R2 sits higher off the ground at 9.6 inches (244 mm), it offers far less impressive angles of 25, 26, and 20.6 degrees. The Jeep rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch tires, while the Rivian has 21-inch wheels and 32-inch rubber.

Size And Cargo Space

In terms of size, the Recon measures 193.3 inches (4,911 mm) long, 87.4 inches (2,221 mm) wide, and 73.8 inches (1,875 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 112.9 inches (2,868 mm). This means it’s 7.4 inches (188 mm) longer than the R2, despite having a 2.7-inch (69 mm) shorter wheelbase.

Despite being smaller, the Rivian has more cargo space thanks to a 5.2 cubic foot (147 liter) frunk and a rear cargo compartment that can hold 79.4 cubic feet (2,248 liters) of luggage. The Recon, on the other hand, has a smaller 3 cubic foot (85 liter) frunk and a boot that holds 65.9 cubic feet (1,866 liters) of gear.

Equipment

While the R2 seems to be wiping the floor with the Recon, Jeep has a few tricks up its sleeve. The most notable is doors, rear quarter glass, and swing gate glass that can be removed without tools. This open air experience can further be enhanced by an optional Sky one-touch power top. That sounds a lot more fun than the R2, which has a drop down rear window and a panoramic glass roof.

Rivian hasn’t said much about the crossover’s cabin, but buyers will find a Black Crater Signature interior with Birch wood trim. They’re joined by 12-way power front seats with heating and ventilation as well as heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. Other highlights include a nine-speaker premium audio system and a flashlight integrated into the driver’s door.

The Recon’s interior looks a little less glamorous, but it has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment system. They’re joined by Capri leatherette front seats with heating and eight-way power adjustment. Other highlights include a dual-zone automatic climate control system, ambient lighting, a wireless smartphone charger, and an 11-speaker Alpine premium audio system.

Customers will also be able to get a Comfort Package, which includes ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a digital rearview mirror, and a passenger camera.

With all that being said, which one interests you the most?

Mercedes is in the process of revamping their entry-level lineup and this has already seen the company introduce the redesigned CLA and GLB. The brand’s most affordable model in America, the GLA, is next in line and spy photographers recently snapped a prototype undergoing cold weather testing.

Dressed in swirly black and white camouflage, the crossover sports a fully enclosed grille that resides above a wide intake. We can also get a glimpse at unique headlights, which will undoubtedly be infused with stars on the production model.

Moving down the sides, we can see streamlined bodywork and flush-mounted door handles. They’re joined by an upward sweeping beltline, a sloping roof, and aerodynamically optimized five-spoke wheels as we’re looking at the fully electric EQ variant.

The rear end sports an evolutionary design, but the license plate recess has been moved from the liftgate to the bumper. We can also see squared off outer taillights with a three-pointed star graphic.

While the interior is heavily disguised, it carries over from the CLA and GLB. As a result, we can expect an optional MBUX Superscreen with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display. They’ll be joined by an MBUX Virtual Assistant with a “living avatar” that takes the form of a Mercedes star.

Powertrain options will also carryover and this means we can expect a GLA 250+ with a rear-mounted motor developing 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 247 lb-ft (335 Nm) of torque. It should be joined by a GLA 350 4MATIC with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of 349 hp (260 kW / 354 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque. Both versions should have a roughly 85 kWh battery pack and an 800-volt architecture that allows for a DC fast charging capability of up to 320 kW.

The instrument cluster shows the battery has 268 km (167 miles) of range remaining at 55%, but we shouldn’t read too much into that as it implies an overall range of around 487 km (303 miles). However, the CLA offers up to 793 km (493 miles) of range, while the GLB has up to 632 km (393 miles).

Later on, we can expect hybrid variants with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a 1.3 kWh battery, and an electric motor that is integrated into an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. In the CLA, this allows for outputs of between 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) and 187 hp (140 kW / 190 PS), before accounting for the extra 30 hp (22 kW / 30 PS) contributed by the electric motor.

As for the i3, it’s a big step forward as it has an 800-volt architecture and a 400 kW DC fast charging capability. The i3 50 xDrive also has 463 hp (345 kW / 469 PS) and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm) of torque as well as an expected EPA range of 440 miles (708 km).

Bentley’s upcoming electric vehicle has been spied on numerous occasions, but its name has been a mystery. However, the “world’s first luxury urban SUV” could end up being called the Barnato.

The name has been rumored for years and reports from 2016 claimed the company was working on an entry-level sports car that could wear the moniker. More recently, in 2025, we noted the Barnato name was a strong possibility for the crossover as the automaker applied for the trademark.

Car & Driver seems to agree, having uncovered new trademark filings for the name across the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The American paperwork is for goods and services such as “motor vehicles and parts” including “electric vehicles.” It can also be used for electric charging cables, charging stations, and battery charging devices.

There’s Already Been A Barnato Edition

The moniker would pay tribute to Woolf Barnato, who purchased his first Bentley in 1925 and would go on to acquire the automaker. He’s also notable for winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in a 4½ Litre and Speed Six.

Interestingly, Bentley has already honored Woolf’s daughter, Diana Barnato Walker, with a special edition. The Bentayga S was introduced in 2024 to honor “Bentley’s Flying Lady.”

She drove a 4¼ Litre Park Ward and joined the Air Transport Auxiliary during World War II to help deliver planes to the front lines. By the end of the war, she had delivered 260 Spitfires as well as numerous other aircraft.

In other news, Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser told Autocar the company has “no intention” to modify the vehicle to install a plug-in hybrid or gas powertrain. He added such a move isn’t even technically feasible due to its use of the PPE platform.

Bentley’s upcoming electric vehicle has been spied on numerous occasions, but its name has been a mystery. However, the “world’s first luxury urban SUV” could end up being called the Barnato.

The name has been rumored for years and reports from 2016 claimed the company was working on an entry-level sports car that could wear the moniker. More recently, in 2025, we noted the Barnato name was a strong possibility for the crossover as the automaker applied for the trademark.

Car & Driver seems to agree, having uncovered new trademark filings for the name across the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The American paperwork is for goods and services such as “motor vehicles and parts” including “electric vehicles.” It can also be used for electric charging cables, charging stations, and battery charging devices.

There’s Already Been A Barnato Edition

The moniker would pay tribute to Woolf Barnato, who purchased his first Bentley in 1925 and would go on to acquire the automaker. He’s also notable for winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in a 4½ Litre and Speed Six.

Interestingly, Bentley has already honored Woolf’s daughter, Diana Barnato Walker, with a special edition. The Bentayga S was introduced in 2024 to honor “Bentley’s Flying Lady.”

She drove a 4¼ Litre Park Ward and joined the Air Transport Auxiliary during World War II to help deliver planes to the front lines. By the end of the war, she had delivered 260 Spitfires as well as numerous other aircraft.

Bentley Won’t Reengineer EV To Fit Gas Engine

The war on electric vehicles continues in Washington as the House of Representatives will reportedly begin work on a new bill that could cost owners hundreds of dollars. It’s the latest in a series of legislative moves aimed at getting EV drivers to pay for road repairs.

Most of this maintenance is funded by taxes on gasoline or diesel. While this worked great for decades, electric vehicles have essentially been getting a free pass. Congress is now looking at ways to close the loop hole, like an increasing number of state governments.

According to Reuters, the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has revealed they’ll be taking up a new surface transportation ‌bill in April, which is designed to replace the current law that expires on September 30.

While it’s not clear what will be in the bill, Rep. Sam Graves recently revealed we can expect a new five year proposal that includes $500 to $550 billion in federal funding. More interestingly, he said “We would like to get money from EVs.”

The publication noted there have been competing Republican proposals to tax EVs as the House sought annual fees of $250, while Senators favored a one-time fee of $1,000.

Some people aren’t happy with those proposals, especially considering fuel taxes have remained unchanged for nearly 33 years. However, even suggesting raising the gas tax would likely be a non-starter as prices have soared following the war on Iran.

That effectively leaves EVs as an easy target and their market share pales in comparison to gas-powered vehicles. That being said, some politicians have been pushing to tax electrified vehicles as well, so EVs might not be the only victim.

It remains unclear how this will shake out, especially as we’re heading into an election year where the cost of living will be a key issue. That being said, the average American reportedly pays $88 per year in federal gas taxes.

Spy photographers have caught the redesigned Range Rover Velar on multiple occasions, but now they’ve gotten a glimpse inside too. This reveals a number of changes and things aren’t exactly looking luxurious.

Drivers sit behind a new two-spoke steering wheel, which features a horizontal bar decked out in digital buttons. More notably, traditional control stalks have been replaced by stubby, wing-like appendages.

Elsewhere, we can see a flat dashboard with a freestanding digital instrument cluster. It looks relatively small compared to the 12.3-inch displays found in many vehicles.

None of this looks particularly luxurious, but the cabin is largely covered by camouflage. As a result, there could be Windsor leather and wood trim hiding out of sight.

Putting the interior aside, the Velar adopts a sleek new design that puts an emphasis on aerodynamics. Starting up front, there’s a fully enclosed grille that is flanked by slender headlights. They’re joined by a clamshell hood and a wide lower intake.

The former meets a rakish windscreen, which flows into an angular roof. While there had been speculation about the model potentially eschewing a rear window like the Polestar 4, a gap in the disguise clearly shows one.

That’s a good call and so is the streamlined bodywork and aerodynamically optimized wheels. Rounding out the highlights are flush-mounted door handles, a rear charging port, and a rounded rump.

The Velar will ride on the electrified modular architecture and be built at the company’s Halewood plant in the United Kingdom. Land Rover has been coy on specifications, but the model could echo the Range Rover EV, which will have a 117 kWh battery pack as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 542 hp (404 kW / 550 PS) and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque.

DS Automobiles has unveiled the all-new N°7, a model that points to where the brand is headed next. This compact crossover steps in for the outgoing 7, taking over from the company’s previous best-seller while marking a pivotal moment for the brand.

The premium model follows in the footsteps of the N°8 and adopts a familiar front end with V-shaped light blades and slender PixelVision headlights, which detect other road users and adapt their beams to avoid glare. They’re joined by a Luminascreen grille and gloss black accents.

Moving further back, we can see streamlined bodywork and flush-mounted door handles. Designers also gave the crossover a sloping roofline and longer rear doors. They’re accompanied by a 40% larger panoramic glass roof and wheels ranging in sizes up to 21 inches.

Speaking of size, the model measures 183.5 inches (4,660 mm) long, 74.8 inches (1,900 mm) wide and 64.2 inches (1,630 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 109.8 inches (2,790 mm). This means length is up by 2.8 inches (70 mm), while the wheelbase grows 2 inches (50 mm).

An Upscale And Minimalist Interior

The minimalist interior is dominated by a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 16-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. They’re joined by a heads-up display and an X-shaped steering wheel, which is billed as a new “brand signature” for DS.

Elsewhere, there’s a floating center console and a toggle-style shifter. The model also offers fabric, Alcantara, and Nappa leather upholstery as well as brushed aluminum or genuine wood trim. Customers can also get heated rear seats as well as heated, ventilated, and massaging front chairs with a neck warmer. Rounding out the highlights are an ambient lighting system, a digital rearview mirror, and a six- or 14-speaker audio system.

Just days after Acura and Honda killed three upcoming EVs, Sony Honda Mobility quietly announced a new art car based on the Afeela 1. It was created in collaboration with Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama, who is best known for creating sexy robots.

That’s an unlikely combination, but it spawned the dull sounding “Afeela prototype tuned up by Hajime Sorayama.” The model was unveiled over the weekend at a museum in Tokyo celebrating the artist’s work.

SHM didn’t say much about the art car, but noted it “embodies the concepts of light, transparency, and reflection.” That’s not a lot to go on, but it appears the model has been given a chrome wrap as well as special Sorayama badging. We can also see deep tinted windows as well as gray tires and blue lights.

In a brief statement, Sorayama said: “I’ve always been fascinated by machines, so it was a real pleasure to take part in designing a car. I aimed to give it an analog sensibility that hints at a near-future vision. I’m especially proud of the moiré effect on the wheels.”

Besides the art car, SHM used the event to launch Afeela’s first-ever apparel item. It’s a black silkscreen t-shirt that features layers of ink showing the car. The shirt costs ¥11,000 ($69.15) and will be offered in limited quantities at the museum.

A Second Art Car

Closer to home, SHM teamed up with artist and director Matt Copson to introduce a separate art car at Frieze Los Angeles. It’s been covered in a “reflective material… commonly found on emergency vehicles and signage.” As a result, it looks like it’s been coated in glow-in the dark silly string.

The car was accompanied by limited-edition tote bags and will eventually be shown at Frieze New York in May.

Spy photographers recently caught the ID. Cross virtually undisguised, but Volkswagen put the camouflage back on for an official photo shoot in Amsterdam. That’s not all as the company has released a handful of initial specifications.

The electric crossover is scheduled to arrive in Europe this fall with a starting price of about €28,000 ($32,218). It rides on the MEB+ platform and shares a lot in common with the ID. Polo. This includes a choice of three front-mounted motors with outputs of 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS), 133 hp (99 kW / 135 PS), and 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS).

The ID. Polo lineup will also receive a GTI variant with 223 hp (166 kW / 226 PS). It will arrive in the spring of 2027, although there’s no word yet on whether the ID. Cross will get the same treatment.

Volkswagen also confirmed the crossover will have 37- and 52 kWh battery packs. Like on the ID. Polo, the smaller one should have a lithium iron phosphate chemistry and a 90 kW DC fast charging capability. It should power versions developing 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS) and 133 hp (99 kW / 135 PS).

The 52 kWh battery will likely have a nickel manganese cobalt chemistry and Volkswagen has said it’ll give the hatchback a range of up to 280 miles (450 km). It will also have a slightly higher 105 kW DC fast charging capability.

In terms of size, Volkswagen confirmed the model will measure 163.5 inches (4,153 mm) long, 70.6 inches (1,794 mm) wide, and 62.2 inches (1,581 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 102.4 inches (2,601 mm). The ID. Cross will also offer 20-inch wheels as well as a towing capacity of 2,645 lbs (1,200 kg).

Volkswagen didn’t release interior pictures, but the cabin should echo the ID. Polo and have a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 13-inch infotainment system. The automaker also revealed the model will have a cargo capacity of 16.8 cubic feet (475 liters), but that can be expanded to 47.3 cubic feet (1,340 liters) by folding the rear seats down. Following yesterday’s leak, Rivian has officially introduced the R2. It arrives this spring with a $57,990 price tag, although an entry-level model is slated to arrive in late 2027 and cost around $45,000.

The R2 rides on an all-new platform and is being launched in Performance guise, which has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 656 hp (489 kW / 665 PS) and 609 lb-ft (825 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0–60 mph (0-96 km/h) in as little as 3.6 seconds.

The crossover is said to have a 87.9 kWh battery pack, which enables it to have a range of up to 330 miles (531 km). When the battery is low, it can reportedly go from a 10-80% charge in as little as 29 minutes. Other highlights include a semi-active suspension and eight drive modes known as All-Purpose, All-Terrain, Conserve, Launch, Rally, Snow, Soft Sand, and Sport.

The model comes standard with an Esker Silver exterior that sports 21-inch Liquid Tungsten wheels as well as Compass Yellow brake calipers and exterior badging. They’re joined by Matrix LED headlights, integrated tow hooks, and a rear liftgate with drop down glass.

Moving inside, there’s a Black Crater Signature interior with Birch wood trim. Buyers will also find 12-way power front seats with heating and ventilation. The R2 Standard Long Range will arrive in the first half of 2027 and cost $48,490. It comes standard with a rear-mounted motor producing 350 hp (261 kW / 355 PS) and 355 lb-ft (481 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.9 seconds and have a Rivian-estimated range of up to 345 miles (555 km).

However, customers can get an optional all-wheel drive system that produces 450 hp (356 kW / 456 PS) and 537 lb-ft (727 Nm) of torque. It echoes the R2 Premium, so expect a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 4.6 seconds and a reduced range of 330 miles (531 km).

In order to achieve the lower price tag, a number of features have been dropped. This appears to include the fancy lighting system, tow hooks, and drop down rear window. The model also rides on smaller 19-inch wheels.

The cuts continue inside with a cheaper Black Crater interior sporting a basic five-speaker audio system. The front passenger seat also gets downgraded to 8-way power adjustment, while there’s only heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Buyers also lose the flashlight and All-Terrain drive mode.

R2 Standard Short Range

Rivian’s much-hyped entry-level model is coming in late 2027 and it will start “around $45,000.” The company isn’t saying much about it, but promised a range in excess of 275 miles (443 km).

Odds And Ends

While Rivian hasn’t released full details, the R2 appears to be surprisingly spacious as there’s 40.4 inches (1,026 mm) of rear-seat legroom as well as 28.7 cubic feet (813 liters) of cargo space. That expands to 79.4 cubic feet (2,248 liters) by folding the rear seats down. Speaking of space, the model has dual glove boxes and a frunk that provides 5.2 cubic feet (147 liters) of room.

This helps the model to be slightly more efficient as the range climbs to 345 miles (555 km).

The equipment list gets shorter as there’s a basic five-speaker audio system, heated front seats, and an “all-black” interior. The drop-down rear window is also absent, while the crossover is shod in smaller 19-inch wheels.

The base R2 is set to arrive in late 2027 with a smaller battery that provides around 265 miles (426 km) of range. Little else is known about this variant, but it’ll cost $45,000.

Other Details
