Mitsubishi has unveiled a new generation of the Eclipse Cross designed for Europe.
The new model is based on the Renault Scenic E-Tech and offered only as an EV.
Initially it is available with a 215 hp electric motor and 600 km (373 miles) of range.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is dead. Long live the new Eclipse Cross EV. This second generation SUV is a complete departure from its predecessor, pairing the electric foundations of the the Renault Scenic E-Tech with Mitsubishi-specific design elements. Built by Renault in France, the new model will be sold exclusively in Europe.
The Eclipse Cross EV joins Mitsubishi’s growing European lineup of Renault-based models. It follows the Colt (Clio), ASX (Captur), and Grandis (Symbioz) as another example of badge-sharing strategy. Positioned in the compact SUV segment beneath the Outlander PHEV, it also becomes Mitsubishi’s second all-electric model in Europe, after the discontinued i-MiEV city car.
Recasting Renault’s Scenic
The clearest way to spot the Japanese twist on the Scenic is up front. Mitsubishi has reworked the face with distinctive split LED headlights, a redesigned but fully covered grille that looks similar to the Outlander, and reshaped bumper intakes. At the rear, updated LED taillight graphics and a heavier dose of glossy black trim set it apart from the Renault, alongside the fresh branding.
The profile looks familiar but there is a new chrome trim on the D-pillars and more futuristic wheels measuring 19 or 20 inches in diameter. Overall, the new model dropps the coupe-SUV proportions of the first Eclipse Cross, which launched in 2017 and gained a facelift in 2020. In terms of footprint, it is incrementally smaller than its ICE-powered predecessor, measuring 4,470 mm (176 inches) long, although its wheelbase is significantly larger stretching to 2,785 mm (109.6 inches).
Inside, the cabin adopts Renault’s digital setup with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a portrait-style 12-inch infotainment screen running Google’s built-in services. For the sake of differentiation, Mitsubishi has added new options for the interior trim and upholstery. Other cool features include the electrochromic glass roof, the LED ambient lighting, and the Harman & Kardon Premium audio system.
A full suite of driver assistance tech is available, offering semi-autonomous driving on the highway. Finally, practicality is served by two rows of seating and a cargo area that ranges between 478-1,670 lt (16.9-59 cubic feet) depending on the position of the rear bench.
Shared Underpinnings
The Eclipse Cross EV rides on the CMF-EV platform (Ampr Medium) which is already used in the Renault Megane/Scenic E-Tech and the Nissan Leaf/Ariya.
Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS), with a 87 kWh battery pack offering a range of approximately 600 km (373 miles). The battery has a water-cooled thermal management system and is compatible with charging speeds of up to 150 kWh.
Mitsubishi has also confirmed that a mid-range version will follow in 2026. This one will most likely use mirror the specs of the entry-level Scenic E-Tech with 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) and a 60 kWh battery.
Designed, Manufactured And Sold In Europe
The new EV will be manufactured at the Douai factory in France as part of the Renault-Mitsubishi-Nissan Alliance, starting in Q4 2025. The same facilities are the home of production for the Renault Megane E-Tech, Scenic E-Tech, R5 E-Tech, Alpine A290, and Nissan Micra EV.
While the new Eclipse Cross is not expected to cross the Atlantic, Mitsubishi has confirmed it will launch another electric crossover for North America in the summer of 2026. This one will be slightly smaller and share its underpinnings with the new Nissan Leaf.
Renault has introduced LCV versions of the R4 E-Tech crossover with the Societe moniker.
The EV features a custom storage compartment with a capacity of 1,045 lt (36.9 cubic feet).
Pricing starts at €29,300 ($34,700) in France, excluding VAT and before local incentives.
A new option has joined the growing ranks of Renault’s retro-inspired EV. The 4 E-Tech is now available in two work-ready versions for the French market, known as Societe Reversible and Societe Van. Both are designed for professionals who want the practicality of a light commercial vehicle without losing the everyday usability of the standard model.
Styling remains unchanged from the regular passenger model, as the Societe versions keep their glass rear windows instead of adopting blank panels. This choice keeps costs down, but it also means Renault hasn’t followed through with the van-style look first teased back in 2021.
At the time, the brand hinted at a boxier tail inspired by the classic Renault 4 Fourgonnette, which would likely have boosted both visual appeal and carrying capacity, albeit at greater expense for what remains a niche product.
Work-Focused Cabin
Inside, the crossover has been reworked to meet the demands of everyday business use. The rear seats give way to a molded tray lined with an anti-slip mat, tie-down hooks, and a partition separating it from the front. Total cargo space comes to 1,045 liters (36.9 cubic feet), with a hidden 55-liter (1.9 cubic feet) compartment under the floor. The loading length stretches to 1.20 meters (47.2 inches), and payload capacity peaks at 345 kilograms (760 pounds).
The conversion takes place at the Ampere Manufacture in Maubeuge, France, by a company called Qstomize. The Societe Reversible is classified as a passenger vehicle (M1), while the Societe Van is a light commercial vehicle (N1). The latter has tax benefits but is subject to speed restrictions.
According to Renault, the target group of the Societe versions is tradespeople, delivery drivers, service and concierge companies, rental companies, and professional fleets.
Powertrain and Range
Performance is identical to the passenger version, with a single electric motor producing 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS). Power comes from a 52 kWh battery that delivers up to 409 km (254 miles) of WLTP range. Charging from 15 to 80 percent takes just over three hours on an 11 kW AC unit, or around 30 minutes when connected to a 100 kW DC fast charger.
In France, the R4 E-Tech Societe is priced from €29,300 ($34,700) for the Evolution trim and €30,900 ($36,600) for the Techno, excluding VAT. Furthermore, buyers benefit from incentives that can reach up to €5,060 (6,000) depending on the variant and the customer profile.
Options, however, can quickly nudge the cost upward. Renault charges between €167 and €917 ($200–1,100) for exterior colors, €167 ($200) for roof rails, and €333 ($400) for the all-weather tires with snow and off-road drive modes. Other extras include a hands-free tailgate at €333 ($400), advanced driver-assist and parking tech for €250 ($300), and a Harman Kardon nine-speaker audio system priced at €500 ($600).

Finding fresh roles for used car batteries is becoming a growing focus in the auto industry, and Stellantis has found a particularly human-centered application. Instead of letting end-of-life EV packs sit idle, the company is repurposing them for mobility solutions outside traditional cars.
One of the most intriguing examples comes through a collaboration with startup Avathor, which has developed a compact EV tailored for wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility. Adding another interesting twist in this story is that the vehicle itself was penned by Italdesign, part of the Volkswagen Group.
This indirect and somewhat unusual collaboration between Stellantis and the VW Group likely stems from the fact that both Avathor and Italdesign are based in Turin. The Italian city is also a key hub for Stellantis, home to the Mirafiori facilities and the company’s main European headquarters.
From Road To Renewal
The process begins with Stellantis brands gathering batteries from retired EVs. These packs make their way to Turin, where SUSTAINera, Stellantis’ circular economy branch, focuses on extending their usefulness and cutting down on waste. A local partner, Intent S.r.l., then disassembles the 15 kWh modules, repackaging them for fresh duties.
For the Avathor One, the modules are reconfigured in 1.4 kWh short-range or 2.8 kWh long-range batteries, offering up to 50 km (31 mph) between charges with a top speed limited to 10 km/h (6 mph).
Avathor / Italdesign
What Is The Avathor One?
The Avathor One was launched earlier this year as the production model derived from the futuristic 2019 WheeM-i concept by Italdesign. It has a rear ramp for wheelchair access, a pull-out bench, and joystick controls.
Measuring just 1,486 mm (58.5 inches) in length, the EV comes fitted with car-like features such as LED headlights, a rearview camera, and collision-avoidance sensors that recognize both obstacles and pedestrians. It can handle gradients of up to 20 percent and climb steps up to 8 cm (3 inches) high.
According to the company, the goal is to launch the Avathor in Italy later this year, followed by Spain in 2026 and other markets in 2027.
Beyond Mobility Aids
Beyond the Avathor project, Stellantis SUSTAINera is also working with utility providers and battery integrators. One notable example is the ENEL X Pioneer system, which stores renewable energy at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and is projected to cut CO2 emissions by 16,000 tons over ten years.
Of course, Stellantis isn’t the only automaker that is active in the circular economy with second-life batteries. Other brands such as Nissan, Renault, BMW, Kia, Geely, Jaguar, Toyota, Honda, Skoda, and Audi have all been involved in similar projects.
Buick has launched the Electra L7 in China under its new Electra sub-brand.
It rides on the new Xiao Yao architecture, offering BEV and EREV options.
The EREV version has 338 hp of power and 870 miles of combined range.

While Buick’s presence in the US is now all about crossovers and SUVs, the brand is taking a different approach in China, where the traditional sedan still has a place. The all-new Electra L7 joins Buick’s portfolio in the world’s largest automotive market, bringing modern styling, a high-tech interior, and electrified powertrains.
The model retains much of the design language introduced in the concept, though a few features have been streamlined for production. The lighting signature at both ends has been reworked, with more practical LED graphics. Furthermore, the sleek, flush door handles and traditional side mirrors replace some of the show car’s more experimental elements, bringing it closer to real-world usability.
Buick highlights its wing-shaped “Galaxy” headlights and turbine-style alloy wheels as standout features. The L7 wears a fastback silhouette focused on aerodynamics and measuring 5,032 mm (198.1 in) long, 1,952 mm (76.9 in) wide, and 1,500 mm (59.1 in) tall. A 3,000 mm (118.1 in) wheelbase gives it a spacious footprint, putting it slightly longer than the Tesla Model S and Mercedes-Benz EQE, though shorter than the BMW i5.
A Minimalist and Techy Interior
Inside, the L7 offers a minimalist but premium-looking cabin anchored by a floating island-style dashboard. It features two screens: a driver display and a tablet-style infotainment unit on the center console. Physical controls are limited to a few buttons on the lower console and steering wheel, which still retains multifunction stalks, including for the transmission control.
Luxury touches include Nappa leather upholstery and four-zone “suspension” seats, with the front passenger seat offering a dual 120-degree zero-gravity function. A 27-speaker Buick Sound system integrates headrest speakers and active noise cancellation.
The Electra L7 also gets a massive 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, and an array of AI-driven features. All of this runs on Qualcomm’s 8775 chip, which supports high-end infotainment and connectivity. Driver assistance tech will come from Chinese tech company Momenta, which has developed a suite of sophisticated ADAS capabilities using LiDAR.
Platform With Options
The sedan is just one of six new energy models Buick plans to launch in the next year, likely alongside production versions of Electra’s SUV and minivan concepts. All of them will be built on Buick’s Xiao Yao architecture, a flexible platform designed specifically for China. These underpinnings are compatible with fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender powertrains, in FWD, RWD, and AWD layouts.
At launch, the Electra L7 will feature a range-extender powertrain. It’s powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine from SAIC, producing 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS) and 230 Nm of torque. The engine doesn’t drive the wheels directly; instead, it acts solely as a generator to recharge the 40.2 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack.
Propulsion comes from a 238 hp (252 kW / 343 PS) electric motor that Buick says delivers performance comparable to a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. In EREV form, the Electra L7 accelerates from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph).
More impressively, the Electra L7 delivers a combined range of 1,400 km (870 miles), including up to 302 km (188 miles) of EV-only driving under the (generous) CLTC cycle. Despite its performance, efficiency remains a highlight, with average fuel consumption rated at just 0.5 liters per 100 km (470 mpg).
In the near future, Buick plans to offer a fully electric version of the Electra L7. This variant will feature a CATL-supplied battery and a 900V electrical architecture, enabling support for ultra-fast charging. According to GM’s estimates, the system will be capable of adding up to 350 km (218 miles) of range in just 10 minutes, significantly reducing downtime during long trips.
Pricing and Availability
GM positions the new Buick Electra L7 as a “300,000-class” vehicle, suggesting a price near ¥300,000 ($41,800). Final pricing will be announced on September 28 when pre-sales open, with deliveries starting in Q4 2025.
As with other Electra-branded models, the L7 is likely to stay exclusive to China, so a US launch isn’t in the cards. Production will take place at the factory of the SAIC-GM joint venture in Wuhan.
Buick has sold over 10 million vehicles in China since 1998. Its local lineup offers a much wider choice of models compared to that in the US, including four SUVs, four sedans, one hatchback, and a range of minivans.

Toyota has launched a curious new product aimed at “various mobility services.” The Toyota e-Palette is a fully electric shuttle designed to work with autonomous driving hardware and software, and it can double as a mobile shop or service hub. After years of concepts and prototypes, the quirky EV has officially gone on sale in Japan, though its asking price may drop a few jaws.
From Concept To Reality
The project began with the e-Palette concept, which made its debut at CES in 2018. It was followed by a redesigned version, created for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Since then, Toyota has continued refining the design, culminating in the first commercially available e-Palette variant.
Visually, it retains much of the original concept’s DNA. Its symmetrical, boxy silhouette, tiny wheels, and large glass panels give it a distinctly shuttle-like character. The “friendly” face is defined by round LED headlights, customizable digital signage, and a repositioned Toyota badge sitting above the bumper intake.
For production, Toyota added larger side windows and slim indicators on the windshield frame, while the rear end mirrors the front aside from red taillights and solid pillars.

Fits Up To 17 People Inside
Unlike earlier prototypes that only offered passenger seating, the production e-Palette adds a central driving position with a yoke-style steering wheel and a steer-by-wire system. The cockpit features a central digital instrument cluster, an infotainment display on the right, another touchscreen on the left, and a fourth monitor for cabin monitoring. Essential functions are handled by physical buttons on twin control panels.
A low, height-adjustable floor, wide sliding doors, and a deployable ramp make access straightforward, particularly for wheelchair users and parents with strollers. Inside, four fixed seats line the rear, complemented by three side-hinged folding seats in the center. Toyota says the cabin can hold up to 17 people in total, including 12 standing, four seated, and the driver. That’s less shuttle, more party bus.
Buyers can also opt for a wheelchair lock system and a large overhead digital display, echoing public transit design. More importantly, the interior layout can be customized, transforming the EV into an entertainment pod or a pop-up store. Toyota imagines it shuttling commuters in the morning, transforming into a food truck at lunch, then acting as a sports viewing pod in the evening while charging.
Autonomous-Ready Shuttle
While earlier prototypes boasted full autonomy (with an operator for safety), the production e-Palette is currently limited to Level 2 driver assistance. However, Toyota stresses it is “capable of supporting automated driving” through optional third-party hardware and software upgrades called “Automated Driving Kit”.
The automaker plans to conduct automated driving demonstrations with dealers and local governments in Japan. Their goal is to launch vehicles with Level 4 autonomous systems in the fiscal year 2027, which ends on March 30, 2028.
Fully Electric With A 160-Mile Range
The e-Palette measures 4,950 mm (194.9 in) in length, roughly the same as a Land Cruiser Prado. Where it differs is in width and height, stretching to 2,080 mm (81.9 in) wide and 2,650 mm (104.3 in) tall, giving it a much boxier footprint than the truck-based SUV. It also weighs in at a hefty 2,950 kg (6,504 lbs).
Power comes from a single electric motor delivering 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 266 Nm (196.2 lb-ft) of torque, with top speed capped at 80 km/h (50 mph). That’s a big step up from the 20 km/h (12 mph) top speed of the Olympic Games prototype.
A 72.82 kWh battery provides up to 250 km (160 miles) of range. Toyota claims the battery can charge to 80% in around 40 minutes with rapid charging, or 12 hours from a standard outlet. Furthermore, the shuttle can also serve as an emergency power source.
An Extra-Terrestrial Price
All of this sounds appealing until you get to the price. The Toyota e-Palette is listed in Japan at an eye-watering ¥29 million ($196,400) before options. This is almost double the price of the GR Supra Final Edition, surpassing even the ¥27 million ($182,800) price tag of the Century SUV flagship, making it the most expensive model in Toyota’s range.
Generous subsidies from Japan’s Ministry of the Environment can cut as much as ¥15,835,000 ($107,200) off the sticker, softening the blow. Toyota hasn’t revealed production numbers, but notes the e-Palette will be built to order, which partly explains the sky-high cost.
Initially, the model will be used in the Toyota Arena Tokyo and the surrounding areas, as well as in the futuristic Toyota Woven City in Japan. Below, you can check out videos of earlier e-Palette prototypes.
BMW is preparing to update its smallest SUV with Neue Klasse styling and tech.
The refreshed X1 and iX1 will gain a fully redesigned exterior and updated interior.
It could debut as early as next year, and may even be labeled as a new generation.
BMW’s Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) updates often slip in with quiet exterior tweaks, the kind you might miss if you blink. This time, though, the brand seems to be shifting gears with the X1. Instead of modest changes, the entry-level SUV, or SAV in BMW terminology, is headed for a radical redesign that also transforms the interior.
With influences from BMW’s Neue Klasse design language making their way in, it raises the question: is this really a facelift, or does it mark the start of a fresh generation, like what we saw with the 1-Series?
Recent sightings of heavily camouflaged prototypes have already hinted at the direction, and now we have a clearer picture. Using those spy shots as a base, digital artist Nikita Chuiko from Kolesahas created new renderings of the next X1. These visuals provide us with a fairly accurate preview.
A Sharper Face
The refreshed SUV will carry BMW’s new front-end identity, featuring a slimmer kidney grille and sharper LED headlights that echo the look of the new iX3. The bumper, hood, and fenders will be redesigned too, softening some of the current model’s aggressive lines, especially those emphasized in the M Sport trim.
The sheet metal on the profile won’t be identical, with the X1 gaining pop-out door handles, sleeker surfacing and more aerodynamic mirrors. The greenhouse should be carried over, but there could be a few changes on the D-pillar that remained covered in the prototypes. Finally, BMW designers will add new options for the alloy wheels, contributing to a more modern stance.
The tail will also mark a stylistical departure from the current X1. The L-shaped taillights will give way to elongated units separated by the BMW emblem and the license plate will be positioned lower on the tailgate, unlike the iX3 where it is mounted on the bumper.
Inside the Neue Klasse
The X1’s interior won’t miss out on the Neue Klasse treatment either and will gain the new Panoramic iDrive cockpit with a slim display covering the base of the windshield. There will also be a larger infotainment touchscreen with a trapezoidal shape, although we don’t know whether it will match the 17.9-inch diameter of the iX3’s. The new layout will most likely be combined with a four-spoke steering wheel and new options for the upholstery.
Under The Hood
The X1 already covers a wide spectrum of powertrains, from mild hybrids to plug-in hybrid and the fully electric iX1. These options are expected to remain, but with incremental improvements in efficiency and performance.
The fully electric iX1 is currently available in FWD and AWD forms with a range between 415-475 km (257-295 miles), but BMW might want to improve those figures amid the fierce competition from newer rivals. This could be achieved with new battery packs, more efficient electric motors, and better aerodynamics.
When Will It Arrive?
The third generation of the BMW X1 was introduced in mid-2022, meaning it is already three years old. According to earlier reports, the mid-lifecycle update would debut in 2027. However, given the prototype activity and BMW’s ambitious product strategy, a 2026 debut seems increasingly likely.
Munich has confirmed the launch of 40 new or updated models with Neue Klasse styling and technology by 2027. BMW AG’s Chairman of the Board of Management Oliver Zipse has stated that every model that will arrive from 2026 onward will be new. It remains to be seen whether the next iteration of the X1 will be labeled as an extensive facelift or a new generation.
BYD disputes claims that Leapmotor outsold it in Germany, citing official KBA data.
Stellantis clarifies CEO referred to Leapmotor’s August performance in the country.
BYD sold 8.6K vehicles between January and August, more than double Leapmotor’s tally.
Update: Stellantis has clarified that CEO Antonio Filosa’s remarks were focused on Leapmotor’s sales performance in Germany in August and not the entire year. He was specifically referring to the Leapmotor T03, which ranked as the country’s best-selling Chinese electric vehicle that month, while Leapmotor overall claimed the top spot as Germany’s best-selling Chinese battery-electric brand, again for August.
“Antonio Filosa’s statement about Leapmotor’s sales of battery electric vehicle (BEV) in Germany in the month of August 2025 are accurate and confirmed by the national industry’s database (KBA),” the Stellantis spokesperson told us.
“In August 2025, in Germany, Leapmotor was the best-selling Chinese BEV brand and Leapmotor T03 was the best-selling Chinese BEV” he explained. The spokesperson also added,, “All other assessments from the competition cannot be linked to what was stated yesterday by our CEO”.

It seems a brewing rivalry has spilled into the press. Chinese automaker BYD has pushed back against comments attributed to Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, reportedly made on Thursday in reference to Leapmotor, though the original source of his remarks is still unclear. We’ve reached out to both sides for clarification.
A Question of Interpretation
According to BYD, Filosa was quoted as saying that “in Germany Leapmotor sold more than BYD.” While Stellantis does not own Leapmotor outright, it holds a minority stake and controls exports outside China through Leapmotor International, a joint venture in which Stellantis has a 51 percent share.
The Chinese automaker disputes the claim, citing its own sales data that show it still has a clear lead. Along the way, BYD also couldn’t resist pointing out how its numbers stack up against Stellantis’ own brands.
According to BYD, they sold 8,610 vehicles in Germany between January and August 2025, which is a far cry from the 3,536 sales of Leapmotor over the same period. These numbers can be broken down to 5,852 BEVs and 2,757 PHEVs for BYD, versus 3,088 BEVs and 448 PHEVs for Leapmotor.
We checked the official registration data from Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), which confirm a similar picture. Between January and August 2025, BYD recorded 8,563 new registrations, compared with 3,531 for Leapmotor. In August alone, the gap narrowed, though BYD still came out ahead with 1,114 units versus Leapmotor’s 826.
It is possible the remarks were lost in translation, or that Filosa simply misspoke in Leapmotor’s favor. He may also have been referring to narrower metrics that have not yet surfaced. While overall sales figures for August are available, the detailed breakdown between BEVs and PHEVs has not been published. A clearer picture should emerge once both companies respond to requests for clarification.
BYD Compares Itself to Alfa Romeo and Jeep
While January–August sales alone would have been enough to counter the CEO’s alleged remarks, BYD went further, highlighting its performance against Stellantis-owned Alfa Romeo and Jeep.
The Chinese automaker bragged about outselling Alfa Romeo in Germany so far in 2025, a curious flex given the two brands operate in completely different segments and court completely different buyers. More specifically, the Italian marque reportedly sold 5,226 units, 5,222 according to KBA, including just 140 BEVs (Junior Elettrica) and 34 PHEVs (Tonale PHEV).
In the same vein, BYD said it sold more EVs and PHEVs than Jeep, 350 BEVs and 569 PHEVs, and claims it is closing in on overall volume, only 278 units behind. KBA data indicate that Jeep sold 8,884 units in Germany between January and August 2025, which is 321 more than BYD, a small gap that may reflect different cuts of the data or timing.
A Significantly Wider Range Of Products
A quick look at their local websites proves that BYD has a significantly larger lineup in Germany compared to Leapmotor. BYD currently offers the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin, Atto 2, Atto 3, Sealion 7, Seal, Seal U, and Tang EVs, plus the Seal U DM-i and Seal 6 DM-i PHEVs in the German market.
On the other hand, Leapmotor is currently limited to the T03 urban EV, the B10 electric crossover, and the C10 SUV in electric and range-extender versions. The range will expand soon with the the new B05 electric hatchback that debuted in Munich.
It will be interesting to see whether the marketing war between the two Chinese brands will continue with more statements in the future, and how both of them will evolve in terms of sales in export markets. Stellantis is in the verge of a major shakeup of its motorsport activities, with Citroen Racing taking the place of Maserati MSG in Formula E. The French marque may be most closely associated with rallying success, but it has been tapped as the more suitable contender for the all-electric championship.
Citroen will compete in FIA’s Formula E championship starting from the coming season. Its return to motor racing as a factory team is described as an “electric, innovative and passionate adventure that embodies our values and our vision for the mobility of tomorrow”.
A teaser video on social media gives us a glimpse of the brand’s electric single seater that will be unveiled on October 20. The cover photo on Facebook with the Citroen Racing Formula E Team logo makes us wonder if the new era will mark the end of the brand’s rallying days. A potential exit could coincide with the return of Stellantis stablemate Lancia in rallying, as the new Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale could replace the C3 Rally2 that has been around since 2018.
Citroen is known for winning eight Manufacturer’s titles and nine consecutive Driver’s titles in WRC, during the dominant period of Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena between 2004 and 2012. It also has four Rally Dakar wins with the ZX Rally Raid back in the ’90s.
Outside rallying, it won three consecutive FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) driver’s and manufacturer’s titles between 2014 and 2016 with a racing version of the C-Elysée sedan.
Citroen Racing will replace Maserati MSG that entered Formula E in 2023, taking the torch from Venturi Racing. The team is fresh out of a collapsed takeover earlier this year, and despite striking a total of three wins (one on every season), has reportedly struggled with financial backing.
Another reason for the demise of Maserati from Formula E is the brand’s new strategy in terms of electrification, with less emphasis on the Folgore-branded EVs and the cancellation of the electric MC20 supercar.
As with Maserati MSG, Citroen Racing will borrow the technical bits from another Stellantis brand that competes in Formula E, DS Automobiles, which has won multiple wins and championship titles over the past decade. DS is currently operated by Penske, but it is not clear whether it will remain on the championship for the upcoming Gen4 single-seater era.
As reported by The Race, Opel could also apply for a Formula E license in the future, something that sounds fitting for its recently renewed GSE performance division.
Citroen Racing will join a grid of 10 Formula E teams for the upcoming season. Rivals include Nissan, Ford, Jaguar TCS, Tag Heuer Porsche, DS Penske, Envision, Lola Yamaha Abt, Mahindra, and Andretti.

Audi once planned to expand the RS6 lineup with two distinct flavors: a plug-in hybrid based on the new-generation A6 and a fully electric variant derived from the A6 E-tron. But according to a new report, the high-performance EV has been quietly shelved despite earlier sightings of camouflaged prototypes.
Last year, spy photographers captured aggressive-looking A6 E-tron test cars in both Sportback and Avant forms. Their larger bumper intakes and pronounced diffusers hinted strongly at an RS6 E-tron in the works. Now, it appears those hopes have faded.
EV Ambitions Cut Short
Citing Audi insiders, Top Gear reports that the RS6 E-tron project has been canned. The decision reportedly comes down to weak demand for high-performance EVs. This leaves the current S6 E-tron as the most powerful version of the lineup, delivering up to 543 hp (405 kW / 551 PS) from its dual electric motors. Built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) co-developed with Porsche, it uses a 100 kWh battery pack that provides between 640 and 670 km (398–416 miles) of range.
A Future With Hybrid Muscle
For enthusiasts who prefer their RS6 with more noise and raw character, there’s still good news. Audi is moving forward with the next-generation RS6 Avant, the long-standing rival to BMW’s M5 Touring. It will feature an RS-specific bodykit with massive intakes, wide fenders, and the signature dual oval tailpipes protruding from the rear bumper.
The new RS6 is expected to come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, offering improved performance compared to its predecessor. Initial reports suggested it would use a twin-turbo V6 as a base, but there is a chance it keeps the V8, helping it stand out from the smaller RS5 Avant that’s also under development.
While a few may lament the loss of an all-electric RS6, the plug-in hybrid offers a middle ground combining supercar-level performance with everyday practicality and some zero-emission capability. In today’s market, that may prove to be the more compelling formula.
Chinese automaker GAC aims to make Europe one of its biggest export markets.

Chinese automakers are no longer quietly edging into Europe, they’re making a full-scale push that is chipping away at local brands’ sales. The latest entrant is GAC, arriving with an ambitious target of selling more than 50,000 vehicles a year in Europe by 2027.
At the Munich motor show, the company displayed the GAC Aion UT compact hatchback and the GAC Aion V midsize SUV. Its European lineup will also feature the fully electric GAC Aion Y crossover along with the more premium Hyptec HT coupe-SUV. Every model is electric for now, though a plug-in hybrid will join the portfolio later.
The president of GAC International, Wei Haigang, told CNBC at the Munich show that Europe is one of the company’s five key markets. “It is a strategic market,” he said, adding that GAC hopes the region will become a major part of its overseas business in the years ahead.
Growth by the Numbers
Haigang projected sales of 3,000 GAC cars in Europe this year, climbing to 15,000 in 2026 and more than 50,000 by 2027. That would represent a seventeenfold increase in just two years, yet the figure still pales next to the company’s domestic performance. In 2024, GAC sold 127,000 vehicles in overseas markets, contributing to global sales of 2,003,058 units.

To ease the impact of tariffs on Chinese imports, GAC is weighing the idea of producing cars within Europe. Haigang emphasized hopes for progress in trade negotiations but said the company is also preparing to localize manufacturing to better serve European customers.
“We are hoping the Chinese government and the European Union can negotiate further to bring the tariffs down,” Haigang said. “In the future, we hope to accelerate the manufacturing localization. So that we can build up manufacturing capability in Europe, to better serve the European markets.”
Industry data underscores how quickly Chinese brands are gaining ground. According to Jato Dynamics, their combined market share in Europe nearly doubled in the first half of 2025 to 5.1 percent, equal to 347,135 units. BYD leads with 70,500 sales, while other names such as Jaecoo, Omoda, Leapmotor, and Xpeng are posting sharp growth as well.

Ioniq 3 arrives in 2026, N version could follow a couple of years after.
The buzz around Hyundai’s performance EVs is growing, and while the electric Ioniq 5 N has impressed critics, its steep price tag keeps it from being the natural successor to the popular i30 N hot hatch, which disappeared from Europe under tighter emissions rules That gap in the lineup could soon be filled by the smaller Ioniq 3, though Hyundai has reportedly considered badging it as the 2 or even the 4.
The sporty hatchback was previewed in Munich this week with the Hyundai Concept Three, a show car with a playful, offbeat character that called to mind a modern Veloster reimagined for the electric era, though Hyundai downplayed the resemblance and described it simply as a compact hatchback.
Could Hyundai Build an Ioniq 3 N?
Hints about a performance-focused Ioniq 3 have already come from within the company. Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, suggested the idea is under serious consideration, telling Auto Express: “The concept is quite sporty, and obviously you have heritage with N brand. I think it’s a fair topic to consider.”
At the same time, the hot hatch project has yet to receive official approval. Martinet acknowledged the uncertainty around demand, noting, “The question is always if there is customer demand? Is there a market? How do you make your car the one that customers want to buy? Generating its emotions is fundamental.”

Simon Loasby, Hyundai’s head of styling, addressed why the concept car carried no N branding. “It is an opportunity. We’re not calling it N, it’s not approved yet. But I think everyone in the company is realizing what Europe needs, and that’s compact hot hatches, so it’s a topic for discussion.”
What the Production Model Will Look Like
The new Ioniq 3 (or whatever Hyundai calls it) is expected to arrive in mid-2026, serving as the electric equivalent of the aging i30. Recent spy shots suggest that the production EV will adopt a sleek hatchback silhouette with a sloping roofline. Unlike the Concept Three that features a Veloster-inspired asymmetrical door layout, the Ioniq 3 will have a more conventional five-door body.
For now, the concept makes a striking impression with its wide fenders, splitter, transparent ducktail spoiler, and a diffuser housing speakers styled to look like twin exhaust tips, which it doesn’t have, of course. A slightly toned down version of this aggressive look could suit a potential Ioniq 3 N, especially if paired with a dual-motor setup and chassis tuned for handling.

When Could It Arrive?
If approved, the Hyundai Ioniq 3 N could arrive around 2027, joining the existing Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N. The company has also confirmed that it is working on a new generation of the i20 N hatchback with a hybrid powertrain, and a new Elantra N sedan with a gasoline engine.
Of course, Hyundai won’t be alone in the electric hot hatch market. The upcoming VW ID. Polo GTI will compete with the Peugeot 208 GTi, Alpine A290, and Mini JCW Electric in the subcompact segment. Still, an updated version of the larger VW ID.3 GTX that will likely adopt the GTI moniker sounds like a more fitting rival to the Hyundai Ioniq 3 N.

A new contender has rolled into the compact EV arena, making its first appearance at the Munich motor show this week. The Stellantis-backed Leapmotor pulled the cover off the B05, a fully electric hatchback positioned to compete with models like the VW ID.3 and MG 4.
In China, the car goes by the name Lafa 5, which is what Leapmotor showed in Munich, but when it goes on sale in Europe it will carry the B05 badge. Production is set to begin next year, and buyers will have the option of an “Ultra” trim that adds a sharper, sport-inspired body kit.
The sleek hatchback body incorporates familiar styling traits from other Leapmotor products. Highlights include the dark-tinted headlights which are connected via a slim grille, the sporty bumper intakes, the frameless doors, and the full-width LED taillights that send subtle Porsche vibes.
The example that is exhibited in Munich is painted in a vibrant yellow shade, combined with glossy black accents and a matching set of 19-inch alloy wheels. Setting aside the name, the European version is identical to the Chinese-spec Lafa 5, although the latter is also fitted with a LiDar sensor on the roof hinting at more sophisticated autonomous driving capabilities.
The company has also shared photos of the Ultra trim that will be formally unveiled later this year ahead of a 2026 market launch. This one is distinguished by a pronounced splitter, a larger rear wing, and a slightly redesigned rear bumper.
Stellantis
The B05 measures 4,430 mm (174.4 inches) long, 1,880 mm (74 inches) in width, and 1,520 mm (59.8 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,735 mm (107.7 inches). For comparison, the B10 crossover is 85 mm (3.4 inches) longer, 5 mm (0.2 inches) wider, and 135 mm (5.3 inches) taller, with an identical wheelbase.
While Leapmotor has yet to announce the full specifications, the B05 is expected to share the LEAP3.5 architecture with the B10. This means it could be powered by a single electric motor producing 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque, and offer the option between 56.2 kWh and 67.1 kWh battery packs. The latter provides a WLTP range of up to 434 km (270 miles) in the B10 crossover, so expect a similar figure for the sleeker hatchback.
The automaker proudly states that the chassis setup of the B10 was developed with the help of Stellantis‘ engineering team and sports a 50:50 weight distribution and a multi-link rear suspension. The same could apply to the electric hatchback. The EV siblings could also share a similar interior layout, with a 14.6 inch infotainment display powered by the Snapdragon 8155 chip and running on the Leap OS 4.0 Plus system.
Stellantis didn’t announce pricing for the Leapmotor B05 hatchback, but it will be more affordable than the B10 crossover that currently starts from €29,900 ($35,000) in certain European markets. This would make it more affordable than the VW ID.3, which is currently priced from €33,330 ($39,100) in Germany.
Halcyon will build 60 bespoke electrified Rolls-Royce Corniche models..

The Rolls-Royce Corniche, that grand 1970s land yacht, has been given a new lease of life as an electric convertible by UK-based Halcyon. The company is producing just 60 “remastered” models, each built to order with a specification shaped around the customer’s tastes.
According to the company, the project begins with over 2,000 hours of restoration, stripping the donor vehicle into bare metal. Owners can decide whether to preserve the Corniche’s timeless design or add modern touches such as chrome bumpers, redesigned headlights, fresh alloy wheels, and custom exterior details.
Bespoke Everything
Inside, Halcyon has reimagined the Corniche with natural materials, bespoke detailing, and a surprising degree of flexibility. One early buyer opted for a two-seat layout with a sculpted rear cabin, and the company is even considering offering a custom Louis Vuitton luggage set.
Other updates bring the car in line with modern expectations, including heated and ventilated seats, an upgraded sound system, hidden infotainment, and automatic climate control.
The first completed commission seen here is known as “Highland Heather” and it draws inspiration from Scotland’s moorlands. Its Purple Moorland exterior is paired with a white-and-purple interior finished in hand-stitched leather, wood, and metal accents.

Silent But Powerful
Underneath the classic silhouette, the 6.75-liter V8 has been replaced with a fully electric powertrain developed by Evice Technologies. In its most potent form, the setup produces up to 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS), more than doubling the output of the original Corniche.
Buyers have a choice between two battery packs, delivering 250 miles (402 km) and 300 miles (483 km) of range respectively. Furthermore, the 800V architecture is compatible with charging speeds of up to 230 kW. Interestingly, the company claims that the conversion adds zero weight to the Rolls-Royce Corniche compared to the factory V8 model, which is as wild as it sounds.
Chassis upgrades include a semi-active suspension and an upgraded braking system. Just like modern vehicles, the Corniche has three drive modes named Drive, Spirited, and Touring, which change the powertrain and damping characteristics.
The Price Of Silence
The first customer cars are due in the fourth quarter of 2026. Prices kick off at £400,000 ($537,000), not including taxes or the donor Corniche itself, which could add anywhere from $40,000 to more than $80,000, depending on the condition.
So by the time you’re done, you’re paying north of half a million for the privilege of silently cruising around in a 1970s Rolls that looks like it should still smell faintly of cigars and aftershave. But hey, exclusivity has never come cheap, and at least this one won’t leak oil on your driveway.
Unplugged Performance has launched new wheels for the Tesla Cybertruck.

They are available in three color variations, with an MSRP of $7,195.
The rumored Tesla CyberSUV might be the talk of the town, but tuners haven’t forgotten the Cybertruck. California-based company Unplugged Performance introduced a new set of alloy wheels for the polarizing truck, aiming to improve its visual appeal.
Dubbed UP Forged Cybrnova, the wheels measure 24 inches across, placing them above Tesla’s standard 20-inch setup but a notch below the oversized 26-inch options some aftermarket shops have showcased. Buyers can pick from three satin finishes, including Bronze, Black, or Titanium.
The wheels have nine aerodynamic spokes with an additional reinforcement ring contributing to the rugged looks and the load-bearing capabilities. According to the company, this design was inspired by the blast wave of a supernova and the “straight-edged” styling language of the Cybertruck.
The forged wheels are made of 6061-T6 aluminum and feature pocket-milled relief points behind the spokes for lower weight. The unsprung mass can be further reduced with the optional titanium lug nuts from Unplugged Performance.
Built For Heavy Duty
Each wheel has a load rating of 3,195 lb (1,450 kg), making them suitable for heavy-duty applications. As for the tire fitment, the tuner recommends the 295/45R24 Nitto Recon Grappler for those interested in retaining an adequate EV range, or a wider 315/45R24 set for an even more aggressive stance.
The 24-inch wheels do not require spacers, as they have been designed to clear the standard brakes and suspension components of the Cybetruck. They are compatible with all trims of the model, including the flagship Cyberbeast.
Premium Price Tag
If you fancy the UP Forged Cybrnova wheels for your Tesla, prepare to dig deep into your pockets. Pricing starts at $7,195 for a set of four, regardless of finish. Add a matching spare, and the bill climbs by another $1,798.75.
The wheels are already available to order through Unplugged Performance’s website, with first deliveries expected in the coming weeks. Buyers can also pair them with the tuner’s body kits and other accessories to create a fully customized Cybertruck.

Electric pickups haven’t won over traditional truck buyers just yet, but Ford is determined to push the segment forward. The 2026 F-150 Lightning STX arrives as the successor to the XLT, offering what many customers have been asking for: more range, added power, and a tougher stance, all without a price hike.
The truck comes standard with a 123 kWh battery pack, good for an EPA-estimated 290 miles (467 km) of driving. That’s a healthy boost of 50 miles (80 km) over the outgoing XLT, which was limited to a 98 kWh unit. For drivers, that translates into fewer charging stops and a more flexible truck for longer trips.
More Power
Besides being able to travel further on a single charge, the STX is also more powerful compared to its predecessor. Dual electric motors produce a combined 536 hp (400 kW / 543 PS), an 84 hp (63 kW) gain compared to the XLT. Torque holds steady at 775 lb-ft (1,051 Nm), delivered to all four wheels through a standard rear e-locking differential.
Tougher Looks
Visually, the STX sets itself apart with a black grille accented in Grabber Blue, STX decals on the hood and bedsides, and unique emblems on the front fenders. It also rides on black alloy wheels wrapped in grippy all-terrain tires, adding a touch of ruggedness alongside off-road running boards borrowed from the gas-powered Tremor.
Inside, the STX comes with cloth upholstery accented in Grabber Blue and Lightning STX embroidery on the seats. A heated steering wheel is included as standard, while buyers can also opt for a black vinyl floor designed for easier cleanup.
Ford has also refreshed the F-150 Lightning’s paint options for 2026. New shades include Argon Blue, Marsh Gray, and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, joining the existing lineup to give buyers more room for personalization.
Prices Stay Put
Perhaps the most surprising element of the update is what didn’t change: the price The 2026 Ford F-150 Lightning STX has an MSRP of $63,345, which is identical to the XLT trim it replaces. The first examples of the electric truck are expected to reach dealerships in early 2026. Based on the added features, Ford expects the STX to be one of the top-selling configurations for the 2026 model year.

The concept is not destined for production but could influence future Avatr models.
Breaking into Europe is no small task for a newcomer in the premium segment, but Avatr is determined to make its presence felt. The Chinese automaker, already operating a design studio in Munich, chose the IAA Mobility Show to present the Vision Xpectra, a futuristic flagship sedan with proportions and presence akin to Maybach and Rolls-Royce.
According to the design team, the Vision Xpectra marries a “solid” exterior with a “soft” interior. At the front, split LED headlights extend into the profile, linking with a sculpted bumper that signals both strength and precision. The look is consistent with other Avatr products yet more dramatic in execution.
The centerpiece of the exterior is the expansive greenhouse, its slim pillars and plunging windshield creating a seamless flow into the hood. The side profile emphasizes bold proportions with oversized alloy wheels, squared fenders, and a short rear deck that melts into broad shoulders. At the back, a prominent diffuser dominates the bumper, reinforcing the concept’s athletic stance.
Design with a Pulse
True to Avatr’s goal of making vehicles with “emotional intelligence“, the Vision Xpectra senses its surroundings and the user, with illuminating sections of the bodywork creating a welcoming sequence. Furthermore, the prismatic glass cabin radiates a warm welcoming shine from within.

The large suicide doors with a pillarless design allows easy access to the interior. The four-seater cabin has dynamic ambient lighting, headrests that look like inflatable pillows, and transparent displays. Another cool touch is the lamella sculptures on the doors that blend with the dashboard as they open and close.
The element on the center of the dashboard is called “vortex” and houses a “living AI entity” that interacts with the occupants. As for the interface, the “cortex” on the center console combines touch and gesture controls in a circular element. Finally, the design team has also created champagne glass and carry-on accessories to match the interior ambiance.
The concept stretches to 5,843 mm (230 inches) long, 2,132 mm (83.9 inches) wide, and 1,405 mm (55.3 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 3,450 mm (135.8 inches). This is a full 823 mm (32.4 inches) longer compared to Avatr’s largest production offering. In fact, the Vision Xpectra’s footprint is similar to the Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase and the gigantic Hongqi Guoli, surpassing the Maextro S800 from Huawei and JAC.
There is no word on technical specifications, but Avart is currently offering models with fully electric and range-extender powertrains, combining Changan underpinnings, CATL batteries, and Huawei tech.
Avatr’s Future
As you might have guessed, the Avatr Vision Xpectra is not destined for production. Still, it sets the tone for the evolution of the brands’ styling language, and some of its features might find their way into a future flagship.
The current lineup of Avart comprises two pairs of mechanically-related sedans and crossovers – the Tesla-rivaling 06 / 07 and the larger 12 / 11. However, this number is expected to grow significantly over the next few years with no less than 17 new products by 2030.
Cupra has unveiled a camouflaged prototype of the production-spec Raval in Munich.
The EV will have evil looks and a sport chassis, producing up to 223 hp in the VZ version.
It will be manufactured in Spain next to the VW ID. Polo, and will hit the roads in 2026.
Cupra chose the IAA Mobility Show in Munich to reveal more details about the upcoming Raval, the fully electric subcompact hatchback that will be formally launched in 2026. The automaker showed a camouflaged series-production prototype of the sporty model that will be a sibling to the VW ID. Polo and wants to show that EVs “can be exciting and desirable”.
The Raval looks similar to the concept that debuted exactly two years ago, although a few details have slightly been toned down. Highlights include the aggressive LED headlights, the sporty bumper, the sharp taillights and the three-spoke alloy wheels finished in copper and black.
The subcompact hatchback measures 4,046 mm (159.3 inches) long, 1,784 mm (70.2 inches) wide, and 1,518 mm (59.8 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm (102.4 inches). This means it has a similar footprint to the ICE-powered Seat Ibiza from its sister brand.
An EV With Hot Hatch Traits
The Raval rides on the MEB+ architecture with a front-mounted electric motor at “several output stages” and two battery options. This is shared with the ID. Polo hatchback, as well as the upcoming ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq crossovers.
In order to differentiate it from its VW Group stablemates, Cupra gave the Raval a sport chassis to match its angry looks. All variants of the EV sit 15 mm (0.6 inches) closer to the ground and have a unique suspensions setup, progressive steering, and ESC Sport.
The performance-focused VZ trim takes things further as the evil twin of the ID. Polo GTI. More specifically, it will be fitted with a more potent electric motor generating 223 hp (166 kW / 226 PS), a VAQ electronic slip differential on the front axle, a DCC Sport suspension, an ESC Off mode, and 19-inch wheels shod in wider 235 mm (9.3-inch) tires. Cupra didn’t specify whether the Raval VZ will feature a different bodykit, but confirmed the presence of “CUPBucket” seats inside the cabin.
Safety equipment will include sophisticated ADAS like the Travel Assist with lane changing and traffic light recognition, the Intelligent Park Assist, and the 360° Area View camera.

Cupra‘s entry-level EV will hit the roads in 2026 as the brand’s eighth model and will mark its eighth anniversary. The company expects to hit the milestone of one million deliveries sometime in the coming months.
Production of the Raval will take place at VW Group’s Martorell factory in Spain alongside the VW ID. Polo. Rivals will include the Renault 5 E-Tech, the Mini Cooper Electric, and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 3.

The spotlight at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich isn’t only on Volkswagen’s ID. Cross. Sharing the stage was Skoda’s Epiq, an updated take on the compact electric SUV first shown in concept form last year. Positioned as a practical and stylish entry point to the brand’s EV lineup, the Epiq promises to deliver everyday usability while remaining priced on par with its gasoline-powered counterpart.
Instead of revealing the production version outright, Skoda brought a near-production showcar that reflects how the final model will look. The design builds on the 2024 concept with small but telling refinements, including reworked LEDs, a reshaped grille, tweaked bumpers, and new mirrors. All bring the SUV closer to its production-ready form, which is slated for release in mid-2026.
Dimensions and Styling

Skoda’s baby SUV measures 4.1 m (161.4 inches) long, which is very similar to the Fabia subcompact hatch and slightly bigger than the Indian-spec Kylaq. Naturally, it is the smallest EV in Skoda’s lineup below the Elroq and the Enyaq.
The Epiq is the first model to fully embrace Skoda’s Modern Solid design approach, which will eventually define the rest of the brand’s lineup. Key styling cues include the new “Tech-Deck” front end, slim T-shaped LED lighting, and a pronounced tornado line across its boxy rear shoulders. The showcar wears a Cashmere matte finish complemented by glossy black detailing, Cosmo gray cladding, and newly designed alloy wheels.
Interior photos remain under wraps, but the Epiq is expected to borrow elements from its VW ID. Cross cousin. That means a blend of an 11-inch digital instrument panel and a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, backed by physical buttons and haptic scroll wheels for a more intuitive setup. Features like wireless charging have also been confirmed.
Despite its compact dimensions, Skoda says the SUV will accommodate five passengers. The cabin will also include practical details such as bag hooks, fastening points, and hidden underfloor storage compartments, along with a 475-liter (16.8-cubic-foot) luggage capacity.
Shared Underpinnings
The EV will share its MEB Entry architecture with the upcoming VW ID. Polo, ID Cross, and Cupra Raval. Skoda didn’t get into details about the specifications, but promised a driving range of up to 425 km (264 miles), which is 5 km (3 miles) more than the VW ID. Cross. Both models are expected to be fitted with a front-mounted electric motor producing 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS).
How Much Will it Cost?
Production of the Epiq will take place at Volkswagen’s Navarra facility in Spain, with sales scheduled to begin in mid-2026. Skoda says it will be the most affordable EV in its lineup, with pricing “comparable” to the ICE-powered Kamiq. In today’s terms, that points to a starting price around €25,330 ($29,700) in Germany and £24,975 ($33,700) in the UK.
Rivals outside the VW Group will include small electric SUVs like the Ford Puma Gen-E, Jeep Avenger, Kia EV2, Mini Aceman, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Renault 4 E-Tech, and more.
The small electric SUV is one of Skoda’s two major launches at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich. The other one will be the Vision O concept, serving as a preview of the future Octavia estate with a fully electric powertrain.

The arrival of the new 2026 iX3 marked more than just another model launch for BMW. It signaled the beginning of the brand’s Neue Klasse era, setting the stage for 40 fresh or updated models expected by 2027. Among the most significant will be the all-electric version of the 3-Series sedan, simply called the i3, which BMW has teased in camouflaged form ahead of its official debut next year.
Closer to Reality
While BMW has already shown a similarly camouflaged prototype of the i3 earlier this year in China, the latest version appears to be a little closer to production. The electric sedan is now fitted with the final LED headlights and taillights (instead of provisional units), and rides on a new set of alloy wheels. Overall, it looks like an evolution of the Vision Neue Klasse concept from 2023 with refined details.
Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, confirmed that the new i3 will debut in 2026, as the first model variant of the next generation 3-Series, though despite the shared design, these two cars will ride on separate platforms, as is the case with the iX3 and X3.
“The next vehicle is already waiting in the wings,” Zipse said. “The details are still hidden beneath the camouflage, but I’m sure you’ll recognize the classic proportions of a sporty sedan.”
He also highlighted the importance of the 3-Series to BMW’s identity. “For the past 50 years and over seven model generations, no other vehicle has been as closely tied to the success of the BMW brand. The 3 Series embodies everything at the very core of BMW. Innovation. Digital user experience. Comfort. Sportiness. Together, these characteristics create an incomparable driving experience,” he added.
The next iteration will double down on those virtues, benefiting from cutting-edge technology in terms of electric motors, batteries, connectivity and autonomous driving systems.
Given that the larger and less aerodynamic iX3 already carries an EPA rating of 400 miles, it’s reasonable to expect the i3’s lower, sleeker profile to stretch that impressive figure even further.
The i3 will not stand alone for long. Zipse confirmed that the launch will be followed by additional variants, including performance-focused models. An electric equivalent of the M3 is already in development, featuring four electric motors and technology inspired by the Vision Driving Experience concept showcased earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the next-generation combustion-powered 3-Series will mirror much of the i3’s styling and cabin design, but it will ride on an updated version of the current platform since the Neue Klasse architecture is dedicated exclusively to EVs. Spy shots suggest some subtle differences in proportions between the two, with the ICE model carrying a longer hood and a more upright windshield.
40 New Models By 2027
Besides the new iX3 and i3 siblings, the Neue Klasse treatment will be gradually applied to the entire BMW range. Zipse said that every model from 2026 onward will be new, suggesting that over the next 12 months, they will keep us busy with numerous mid-lifecycle updates.
BMW also offered a preview of its refreshed lineup, showing the silhouettes of “40 new and facelifted” models set to arrive by 2027. The outlines appeared on a video wall during the iX3’s presentation, though the low resolution made it impossible to pick out finer details

BMW has entered its Neue Klasse chapter with the world premiere of the second-generation iX3. More than just another electric SUV, this model sets the stage for the brand’s future with a new design language, a purpose-built EV platform, and four high-powered computers BMW calls its “superbrains.”

The production iX3 remains faithful to the Vision Neue Klasse X concept from 2024, incorporating the brand’s new styling direction that will be eventually applied across its entire lineup, including ICE and EV models.
“The design of the Neue Klasse provides a very modern interpretation of what BMW has always stood for,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. “With our new design language, the new BMW iX3 looks future-focused, modern, and timeless – but, above all, more BMW than ever.”
At the front, the vertical kidney grille and twin headlight setup of the new iX3 take cues from classic BMWs such as the 2002 Series, reinterpreted here with a modern, futuristic twist. They’re paired with sculpted intakes and glossy black bumper accents, which stand in for the plastic cladding typically seen on SUVs and crossovers.

The profile is defined by rectangular contours and crisp character lines that underscore its athletic stance. Yet apart from the signature Hofmeister kink, it may be the least traditionally BMW aspect of the design.
At the rear, horizontally arranged taillights are divided by a recessed section that echoes the shape of the roof spoiler. Aerodynamic refinements have reduced the drag coefficient to 0.24, a notable improvement over the previous iX3’s 0.29.
For buyers looking for a sharper edge, the optional M Sport package brings a restyled body kit and alloy wheels in 20, 21, or 22 inches, paired with blue brake calipers. Those who choose the M Sport Professional package get an illuminated grille, black trim details, and red calipers.
The new iX3 measures 188.3 inches (4,783 mm) long, 74.6 inches (1,895 mm) wide, and 64.4 inches (1,636 mm) tall with a 114.1-inch (2.898 mm) wheelbase. This means it is 1.9 inches (49 mm) longer compared to its predecessor, with an extra 1.3 inches (34 mm) between the axles.
Futuristic Interior

The interior’s focal point is BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive, a sweeping pillar-to-pillar display integrated along the base of the windshield. It works in tandem with a 17.9-inch central screen and an optional 3D head-up display, all powered by the latest BMW Operating System X, which promises a cleaner and more intuitive interface. For longtime BMW drivers, it’s a dramatic departure from both the brand’s current layouts and the more driver-centric dashboards of the past.
While the climate controls are integrated into the touchscreen, BMW designers kept some physical controls for the essentials such as wipers, indicators, mirrors, volume, gear selection, and the parking brake.
The multifunction steering wheel now features the often-debated touch-sensitive buttons, while the voice-activated BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant are designed to cut down on distractions, though how well this works in practice remains to be seen.
Optional features include a 13-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, the panoramic moonroof, and a three-zone auto climate control. The EV also introduces new driving sounds and sound effects from the BMW HypersonX soundscape.
BMW highlights the roomy five-seat layout of the iX3, made possible by the smart packaging of its EV-dedicated platform. Cargo space is generous, with 30.4 cubic feet (861 liters) available behind the rear seats and up to 65 cubic feet (1,841 liters) when folded, based on US measurements that extend floor to ceiling. European figures, which measure only to the top of the rear seats, list capacity from 520 to 1,750 liters.
A small 2 cubic-foot (57-liter) frunk adds extra practicality, complemented by multiple storage compartments throughout the cabin.
Smarter Than Your Average EV
The Neue Klasse iX3 is equipped with four high-performance computers called “superbrains”, which are part of the vehicle’s “digital nervous system”. Each unit controls the driving dynamics, automated driving systems, infotainment, and basic functions. For example, the “Heart of Joy” superbrain is responsible for the drivetrain, brakes, energy recuperation, and steering, making sure that the driver always gets the best out of them.
Another unit is dedicated to the automated driving and parking functions. Speaking of which, the standard Active Driving Assistant Plus is a complete suite of ADAS, while the optional Highway Assistant allows hands-off driving for prolonged periods of time. Furthermore, the “BMW Symbiotic Drive” means that the driver inputs can merge seamlessly with the autonomous systems without disengaging them.
According to BMW, the iX3 is a software-defined vehicle, meaning it will keep improving throughout its lifecycle with over-the-air updates.
Platform And Performance
The new iX3 is the first production model to ride on the Neue Klasse platform that will eventually underpin all electric BMWs. This 800-volt architecture introduces the sixth-generation eDrive system, pairing newly developed electric motors with high-density cylindrical battery cells. It also integrates the “Heart of Joy” driving dynamics system along with advanced autonomous driving functions.
The launch version, the iX3 50 xDrive, uses dual electric motors with all-wheel drive, delivering a combined 463 hp (345 kW / 469 PS) and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm) of torque. That output propels the SUV from 0 to 60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed capped at 130 mph (209 km/h). Drivers can choose between Sport, Efficient, Silent, and Personal modes to tailor the experience.
Range And Charging
The company hasn’t specified battery capacity, but the 400-mile (644 km) EPA figure, likely even higher under WLTC testing, speaks volumes. Thanks to 400 kW DC fast charging, the iX3 can gain 230 miles (370 km) of range in just 10 minutes, or recharge from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes. The model supports bi-directional charging and features a NACS port with CCS adapter. A sensor-based flap even opens and closes automatically.
The all-wheel-drive 50 xDrive will be just the beginning. A rear-drive, single-motor version is already in the pipeline, and it’s only a matter of time before BMW M puts its stamp on a high-performance iX3.
Pricing And Availability
BMW expects the iX3 50 xDrive to reach US dealerships in summer 2026 with a starting price of “around $60,000”. That figure undercuts the similarly sized X3 M50 xDrive, powered by a six-cylinder gasoline engine, by roughly $6,000. Pricing should also line up closely with Tesla’s upcoming Model Y Performance, which is projected to come in roughly $10,000 above the $48,990 Long Range AWD.
In the premium electric SUV segment, the iX3 will go up against the Audi Q6 e-tron, Porsche Macan EV, and upcoming entries like the Mercedes GLC EV and Volvo EX60.
Production for US models will begin in the first quarter of 2026 at BMW’s new plant in Debrecen, Hungary.

The Neue Klasse strategy is far bigger than a single model. By 2027, BMW expects nearly 40 new or refreshed vehicles to adopt its technology, from sedans to SUVs. The next Neue Klasse debut will be a four-door sedan positioned as the electric counterpart to the 3-Series.
