Xiaomi’s First SUV Is So Stylish And Powerful, You’ll Wish It Was Sold Here

  • Xiaomi has launched their first crossover in China and it’s called the YU7.
  • It features a stylish design as well as a high-tech cabin with a panoramic display.
  • The model offers three powertrains including a dual-motor AWD system with 681 hp.

The electric SUV game just got a little more interesting. Xiaomi gave us our first look at the stylish YU7 last year, and now the crossover has officially been launched in China. It’s big news as the YU7 is the company’s second model and their first SUV, following the SU7. That sedan has been a runaway success in its home market, racking up 258,000 sales in just 14 months, including 28,000 deliveries in April alone.

The crossover follows in the footsteps of the SU7 and is a high-performance luxury SUV with an impressive design. It features a shark nose front end that is flanked by “waterdrop” headlights, which have channels that direct air out through the hood. Speaking of which, the crossover has the largest clamshell aluminum hood among mass-produced vehicles.

Aerodynamics played a huge role in the YU7’s development and the production model has “10 through-flow air channels and 19 optimized vents to manage airflow precisely.” They’re joined by aerodynamically optimized wheels and an active grille shutter system. Thanks to all this attention, the model has a drag coefficient of 0.245.

Since we’ve already seen the crossover before, we’ll just briefly mention a few highlights including flush-mounted door handles and a standard panoramic glass roof. They’re joined by a distinctive rear end with “halo” taillights and two spoilers. The model is being launched in three eye-catching colors – Emerald Green, Titanium Silver, and Lava Orange – and they contrast with gloss black accents.

In terms of size, the YU7 measures 196.8 inches (4,999 mm) long, 78.6 inches (1,996 mm) wide, and 63 inches (1,600 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 118.1 inches (3,000 mm). That means the crossover is 2.3 inches (58 mm) shorter than the Tesla Model X and has a 1.4-inch (35 mm) longer wheelbase.

Minimalist Interior, Maximalist Screens

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

While the exterior is stylish and expressive, the cabin is overly minimalist. It’s dominated by a 16.1-inch infotainment system and a HyperVision Panoramic Display, which sits at the base of the windshield.

The latter echoes BMW’s Panoramic iDrive Display and spans 43.3 inches. It’s customizable, but can act as a speedometer, a navigation display, and a front passenger display.

Putting screens aside, the crossover has Nappa leather zero-gravity front seats with one-touch recline and a 10-point massage function. They’re joined by power-adjustable rear seats with backrests that can tilt from 100° to 135°.

Xiaomi’s First SUV Is So Stylish And Powerful, You’ll Wish It Was Sold Here

Rear seat passengers will also find dedicated climate controls and a dual-screen entertainment system. Other highlights include a wireless smartphone charger, hidden air vents, and soft-touch materials throughout.

The crossover can accommodate 23.9 cubic feet (678 liters) of luggage and that can be expanded to 62.1 cubic feet (1,758 liters) by folding the seats down. There’s also a small frunk, which provides 5 cubic feet (141 liters) of space.

Power, Range, and Charging Speed

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Three different configurations are available and the entry-level YU7 has a single electric motor producing 316 hp (235 kW / 320 PS) and 389 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h). Buyers will also find a 96.3 kWh battery pack that delivers a CLTC range of 519 miles (835 km).

The mid-level YU7 Pro has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 489 hp (365 kW / 496 PS) and 509 lb-ft (690 Nm) of torque. This cuts the dash to 62 mph (100 km/h) to 4.3 seconds, but the top speed remains unchanged. Unfortunately, the range drops to 472 miles (760 km).

The range-topping YU7 Max has an upgraded dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 681 hp (508 kW / 690 PS) and 639 lb-ft (866 Nm) of torque. 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) comes in a blistering 3.2 seconds and drivers will eventually hit 157 mph (253 km/h) if they keep their foot planted on the accelerator. The Max is also notable for having a larger 101.7 kWh battery, which delivers 478 miles (770 km) of range.

Xiaomi’s First SUV Is So Stylish And Powerful, You’ll Wish It Was Sold Here

When the battery is low, owners can go from a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 12 minutes. After 15 minutes, they can get up to 385 miles (620 km) of range.

The YU7 has a double wishbone front and five-link rear suspension with air springs. The latter provide five levels of adjustment, meaning the crossover can provide up to 8.7 inches (222 mm) of ground clearance. Other highlights include continuous damper control and a high-performance braking system with four-piston Brembo calipers.

Xiaomi also confirmed the crossover will have advanced driver assistance technology. This is made possible by a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, a 4D millimeter-wave radar, 11 high-definition cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars.

Pricing and Availability

While pricing details haven’t been released yet, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun dismissed earlier rumors suggesting a starting price around 200,000 yuan ($27,800). “The Model Y starts at 263,500 yuan ($36,600), and based on these (YU7) configurations, this car should cost 60,000 to 70,000 yuan ($8,300 to $9,700) more,” Lei said during the presentation, according to Reuters. “But we’ll talk about the price in July.”

2026 Charger Daytona Spawns A 670 HP Sedan

  • Dodge has introduced the 2026 Charger Daytona sedan, which is nearly identical to the coupe.
  • It weighs an additional 50 lbs and features a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 630 hp.
  • Dealers are currently accepting orders and deliveries are slated to begin later this year.

Dodge has officially unveiled the 2026 Charger Daytona lineup, which includes an all-new liftback sedan. It closely echoes the coupe as the fascias, roofline, and liftgate are shared across body styles.

However, the new five-door variant promises to be far more practical even though interior and exterior dimensions remain unchanged. That means there is 37.2 inches (945 mm) of rear seat legroom as well as a cargo capacity of up to 37.4 cubic feet (1,059 liters).

More: It’s Official, Dodge Is Killing The Electric Charger Daytona R/T

Speaking of the interior, it comes nicely equipped with a 16-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Buyers will also find a heated steering wheel, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a garage door opener, and cloth/leatherette seats.

They’re joined by a long list of driver assistance systems that includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Active Driving Assist, and Active Lane Management. There’s also Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind-Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Alert, and Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning.

Options Galore

While the standard model comes nicely equipped, the Plus trim adds fancier LED headlights, a power liftgate, and a frunk. The cabin gains a wireless smartphone charger, a 64-color ambient lighting system, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, a ParkView 360 surround view camera system, and an upgraded alarm.

Other options include a panoramic glass roof, an 18-speaker Alpine premium audio system, and a self-explanatory Carbon & Suede package. Customers can also get a Blacktop package that includes dark badging and 20-inch wheels with a dark finish.

Sticking with styling, there’s a new gloss black painted hood. 2026 models can also be equipped with matte black Fratzog stripes that have red accents as well as a repeating pattern.

AWD And 670 HP

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

The 2026 Charger Daytona lineup is offered exclusively in Scat Pack guise and this means there’s a 100.5 kWh battery pack as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 630 hp (470 kW /  639 PS) and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque. However, a PowerShot function can deliver an additional 40 hp (30 kW / 41 PS) for 10 seconds at a time.

Both the sedan and coupe accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.3 seconds, run the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds, and have a top speed of 135 mph (217 km). Those are impressive numbers, but the 241 mile (388 km) range leaves a lot to be desired.

2026 Charger Daytona Spawns A 670 HP Sedan

When it comes time to replenish the battery, a 350 kW DC fast charger can take it from 20-80% in just 24 minutes. With a more common 175 kW DC fast charger, the same process will take roughly 42 minutes. At home, you’re looking at around 5.4 hours to go from 20-80% with an 11 kW Level 2 charger.

Customers looking for maximum performance can get an optional Track package. It features 20-inch aluminum wheels that are backed up by a Brembo braking system with red six- and four-piston calipers. The package also includes a dual valve adaptive damping suspension, a gloss black rear spoiler, a drive experience recorder, and leather/suede performance seats with fixed headrests.

Now Up For Order

\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Dodge is currently accepting orders for the 2026 Charger Daytona coupe and sedan. The company didn’t mention pricing, but deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of this year.

However, you might want to hold off as the Charger Sixpack is also coming later in 2025. It’s notable for featuring a twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six that will have outputs of 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 550 hp (410 kW / 558 PS).

This BMW Prototype Hides A Solid Secret

  • BMW has introduced a new i7 prototype with a solid state battery pack.
  • It was developed with Solid Power and will be tested around Munich.
  • Solid state batteries offer numerous benefits including higher energy densities.

Solid state batteries are inching closer to reality as BMW has become the latest automaker to introduce a road-going prototype. It’s based on the i7 and features high-tech cells from Solid Power.

The companies have been working together since 2016 and the prototype will be driven around Munich as part of the testing process. The automaker didn’t say much about this, but stated they’ll be examining cell expansion, operating pressures, and temperatures. They added, the “use of Solid Power cells with sulfide-based electrolytes and their complete integration into a battery pack will provide the BMW Group with further important findings in the test program over the coming months.”

More: Mercedes EQS Solid State Prototype Hits The Street With 621 Miles Of Range

While BMW was coy on specifics, solid state batteries offer an assortment of advantages over traditional lithium-ion batteries. One of the most notable is higher energy densities, which can allow for smaller battery packs or longer ranges without weight penalties. Solid state batteries also promise to deliver improved performance and safety.

BMW didn’t say when we can expect to see solid state batteries in production vehicles, but implied they’re still a ways off. As they explained, “further development steps are required to implement ASSB [all-solid-state battery] technology in a competitive overall storage system.”

\\\\\\\\

That being said, the company is optimistic about the future. BMW battery guru Martin Schuster said, “Our i7 ASSB test vehicle on the road is a perfect example of the BMW Group’s technology-open mindset. We are continuously advancing the development of new battery cell technologies and are constantly expanding our know-how with valuable partners such as Solid Power. ”

Besides BMW and Mercedes, Stellantis is working on solid state batteries and has plans to introduce a fleet of prototype Dodge Charger Daytona EVs by the end of the year. Like the EQS, they use Factorial cells and these are slated to have an energy density of 375 Wh/kg.

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

PROS ›› Powerful dual-motor AWD system, upscale interior, comfortable rideCONS ›› Too high-tech for its own good, expensive, not an Escalade

Cadillac’s electric revolution is well underway, and it got off to a fantastic start with the Lyriq. Launched in 2022, the model has become the best-selling luxury EV in America and now accounts for roughly 20% of Cadillac sales. It’s also introducing new people to the brand as it has an impressive conquest rate of 80%.

While the Lyriq was the tip of the spear, the battle is now raging on all fronts as the company’s electric lineup has grown to include five models. One of the latest is the 2026 Vistiq, which is the de facto successor to the XT6. It’s a huge leap forward, although it falls a little short of being a ‘baby’ Escalade.

Iconiq Looks

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

Large and imposing, the Vistiq follows in the footsteps of the Lyriq and Escalade IQ as it adopts an illuminated Black Crystal Shield grille, flanked by split lighting units. They immediately tell onlookers this isn’t just any electric vehicle, it’s a Cadillac EV.

The boldness gives way to an understated design further back as the flanks have streamlined bodywork and flush-mounted door handles. They’re joined by a long, sloping roof that can be painted in contrasting black.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Michael Gauthier

More notably, there’s a Mondrian graphic on the third quarter glass, which could likely prove divisive. Cadillac says it’s there to provide a sense of motion as well as privacy for third-row occupants, but it’s not my cup of tea. On the bright side, the pattern doesn’t have much of an impact on the otherwise excellent visibility from inside.

While the window treatment is a bit garish, the sleek bodywork enables the crossover to have a drag coefficient of 0.29. That trails the Mercedes EQS SUV by a small margin, but it’s pretty impressive for a vehicle that measures 205.6 inches (5,222 mm) long, 86.7 inches (2,203 mm) wide, and 71 inches (1,804 mm) tall. For those wondering, that’s 7.1 inches (180 mm) longer than the XT6, but 18.7 inches (475 mm) shorter than the Escalade IQ.

121.8 inches (3,094 mm) separate the wheels, which are available in a variety of sizes and designs. 21-inchers come standard, although higher-end trims sport 22-inchers with 23-inch kicks being optional.

That brings us to the rear end, which is fairly conservative when compared to the more adventurous Lyriq. It sports split taillights as well as a power liftgate, which is activated by touching the Cadillac emblem.

A Beautiful Cabin With Three Roomy Rows

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

There’s a saying that ‘It’s what’s on the inside that counts’, and the Vistiq didn’t disappoint as our Premium Luxury tester was a sight to behold. The Phantom Blue seats immediately stand out thanks to their eye-catching color and premium design, which incorporates quilted accents as well as contrast piping.

The comfy chairs feature heating, ventilation, and a massage function that can be operated from either the door panel or the 8-inch command center. The seats also feature 8-way power adjustment as well as a memory function on both sides.

While the blue seats grab your attention, they’re not the only standout feature, as there’s beautiful Lumen open-pore wood trim as well as microfiber upholstery. Other highlights include stylized speaker grilles, metallic accents, and Cadillac-specific switchgear.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Michael Gauthier

It’s also impossible to ignore the curved 33-inch display that functions as a digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. It’s clean and bright, although not completely intuitive.

A prime example of this is hidden settings for the augmented reality heads-up display, which Cadillac made a big fuss about. The display was positioned out of my sightline, but I couldn’t find the menu to move it. It was only later that someone else discovered you had to swipe sideways on the far left section of the 33-inch display to get to a menu screen to access HUD settings.

That isn’t the only issue, as the steering wheel can block your view of the display. This isn’t much of a problem most of the time, but it can hide messages related to Super Cruise and automated lane changes.

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

The second-row captain’s chairs feel like first-class accommodations as they’re comfortable, supportive, and have a heating function as standard. They also slide and recline, making it easy to get situated.

Once settled in, passengers can fine-tune their environment on the 8-inch rear command center. This comes in handy as the Vistiq has a five-zone climate control system, so everyone can tailor settings to their liking.

The first two rows are covered by a dual-pane panoramic sunroof with a power-retractable sunshade. It’s accompanied by a fixed glass roof above the third row, which helps to make the rear seat feel open and airy.

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

Speaking of which, Cadillac officials called the rear seats a “no compromise” third row. That certainly seems to be the case as they have the same stylish Nouveauluxe upholstery as those up front. This is notable as some companies cut corners on the third row by using cheaper materials or by eschewing embellishments.

Rear seaters will find plenty of amenities, including padded armrests, cup holders, and air vents. They’re joined by USB-C charging ports and a decent amount of legroom. With the second row slid all the way back, this 6’2” scribe could be comfortable enough for a short trip in the third row. However, if second-row passengers slide their seats forward a bit, the third row becomes truly adult-friendly.

It’s also worth noting there’s plenty of headroom in back, while entry and egress is good. However, it wasn’t perfect as our tester had a glitchy release for the second-row passenger seat. This forced us to hit the button while also pushing the seat forward in order to get it to move.

When it comes to hauling cargo, the second- and third-row seats have a power folding function that opens up 80.2 cubic feet (2,271 liters) of space. There’s also 43 cubic feet (1,218 liters) behind the second row and 15.2 cubic feet (430 liters) behind the third row.

While many entry-level models skimp on equipment, the Vistiq Luxury boasts a long list of standard fare. This includes a heated power steering wheel as well as heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats. They’re joined by heated rear seats, a dual wireless smartphone charger, and a 23-speaker AKG Studio Audio system with Dolby Atmos. Buyers will also find alloy pedals, illuminated door sill plates, a rear camera mirror, ambient lighting, and Google built-in. The latter provides access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the Google Play store.

305 Miles Of Range And V-Series Performance

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

The heart of the Vistiq is a 102 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which feeds a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 615 hp (459 kW / 624 PS) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. The powertrain is shared with the 2026 Lyriq-V and enables a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.7 seconds as well as tow up to 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg).

Needless to say, the Vistiq is impressively quick, leaving the Mercedes EQS SUV in the dust. The model also outguns the similarly priced Volvo EX90, which offers up to 510 hp (380 kW / 517 PS) in Performance guise.

Despite the impressive performance, the Vistiq can go the distance thanks to a range of up to 305 miles (491 km). That’s 5 miles (8 km) less than the Volvo, 7 miles (11 km) less than the EQS SUV 450 4MATIC, and 24 miles (39 km) less than the Tesla Model X.

Speaking of Tesla, the Vistiq has a Combined Charging System (CCS) port, meaning you’ll need to use an NACS adapter at Superchargers. That’s unfortunate, but the crossover’s 190 kW DC fast-charging capability can deliver up to 80 miles (129 km) of range in approximately 10 minutes.

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

The model comes standard with a dual-level charge cord, which can connect to an “appliance-style, four-prong outlet” to get up to 20.9 miles (33.6 km) of range per hour. If all you have is a traditional household outlet, you’ll only get up to 3.7 miles (6 km) of range per hour.

However, the Vistiq also supports 11.5 and 19.2 kW Level 2 charging. The former provides about 29 miles (46.7 km) of range per hour, while the latter boosts that to nearly 47 miles (75.6 km).

On the topic of power, the Vistiq has a bidirectional charging capability. When paired with a $7,299 GM Energy V2H Bundle, the crossover can power your home during a blackout.

A Smooth Operator With Standard Super Cruise

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

If you’ve driven a Lyriq, the Vistiq should feel pretty familiar, hardly a surprise given the similarities between the two models. Both ride on the BEV3 Ultium platform and put an emphasis on comfort.

This pays dividends for drivers as the Vistiq has a refined ride quality that is silky smooth, but not disconnected. Credit goes to a multi-link front and five-link rear suspension with semi-active dampers. However, our Premium Luxury tester is notable for featuring an Air Ride Adaptive suspension, which was remarkably comfortable even on dirt roads and broken pavement.

Despite a relaxed attitude, the Vistiq can hustle on back roads. The three-row luxury crossover felt planted and secure when chucked into corners at speed, although its hefty curb weight becomes apparent when you try to make it dance. It’s not bad, but you can’t ignore the rules of physics.

\\\\\\\\\\\

Michael Gauthier

Given this is a family-friendly crossover, it’s not surprising that the electric power steering isn’t overly engaging. It’s direct and predictable, but even putting the crossover into Sport mode left me wishing for extra heft and a livelier experience.

Sticking with that theme, the Premium Luxury is notable for having an active rear steering system. It turns the rear wheels up to 3.5 degrees to improve maneuverability at low speeds and stability at high speeds. This is a welcome addition as it helps the Vistiq to drive much smaller than it is, especially in tight parking lots.

To give you some perspective, the model has a turning diameter as tight as 38.2 feet (11.6 meters). That’s half a foot (152 mm) less than the smaller XT5 and XT6.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Michael Gauthier

When it’s time to bring the action to a halt, customers can depend on a pair of capable brakes that measure 13.5 inches (343 mm) front and 13.6 inches (345 mm) rear. They’re certainly up to the task, but the range-topping Platinum trim is notable for adding six-piston Brembo front brakes measuring 16.1 inches (410 mm).

While we didn’t get a chance to try out the Brembos, the standard brakes work well and had no problem bringing the hefty crossover to a safe and predictable stop. However, they’re not the only way to slow the vehicle, as the Vistiq has a steering wheel-mounted Regen On Demand paddle. Pull it, and the regenerative brakes kick in to slow the luxury crossover. The model also offers a one-pedal driving mode, which is an acquired taste that may or may not be to your liking.

One of the most welcome things about the Vistiq is how quiet the interior can be. This can be chalked up to laminated glass, extensive sound deadening, and road noise cancellation technology. When traveling on dirt roads, the vehicle was impressively hushed, and the same was true at highway speeds.

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

Aiding the experience is a full complement of standard driver assistance systems. This includes an upgraded version of Super Cruise, which features more hands-on functionality, route-related lane changes, and automatic reengagement.

We’ll discuss the system a bit more in a later article, but the Vistiq also has Automatic Emergency Braking, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Braking. They’re joined by Forward Collision Alert, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, an HD Surround Vision system, and OnStar.

A Solid, But Pricey Crossover Bound To Live In The Escalade’s Shadow

Is Cadillac’s New Vistiq The Baby Escalade You’ve Been Waiting For?

Cadillac appears to have another winner on their hands as the Vistiq offers an impressive blend of luxury, performance, and capability. It’s also a ‘proper’ three-row crossover, unlike the Tesla Model X and Mercedes EQS SUV. This alone helps the model to stand out, as there isn’t much direct competition besides the Volvo EX90.

Aside from filling a gap in the market, the Vistiq offers Blackwing levels of power and acceleration. Despite this, the crossover has a comfortable and refined ride as well as 305 miles (491 km) of range. While a few minor details detract from the experience, the model builds on the Lyriq and pushes the bar even higher.

Unfortunately, pricing is steep as the model starts at $77,395 before a $1,695 destination fee. Moving up to a Premium Luxury trim like our tester would set you back $93,590.

That’s a far cry from the 2025 XT6, which begins at $52,690 in AWD guise. However, the Vistiq undercuts the Volvo EX90 and is only a few thousand dollars more than the range-topping Hyundai Ioniq 9 Calligraphy. This makes it a pretty compelling three-row luxury EV, even if it has to live in the shadow of the Escalade IQ.

Genesis’ New Flagship Looks Like A Giant Minivan

  • The GV90 inches closer to production as a lightly camouflaged prototype has been spied.
  • It’s inspired by the Neolun concept, boasting streamlined styling and a minivan-like shape.
  • Genesis has hinted at a 2026 debut, but delays may push the luxury model’s arrival further.

The Genesis GV90 is entering the homestretch and the bulky camouflage has finally come off. This gives us our best look yet at the upcoming electric vehicle and it appears more like a minivan than a luxurious SUV.

Previewed by the Neolun concept, the production model has an upright front fascia with a large lower intake. The latter appears to be divided into two sections, each featuring a slightly different mesh pattern. They reside below trademark “two-line” headlights and what looks to be a V-shaped accent.

More: 2026 Genesis GV90’s Dual-Motor AWD System Is No Match For A Snowy Ditch

In profile, the GV90 looks like a modern day Dodge Grand Caravan riding on supersized wheels. That’s far from ideal for a luxury brand, but the crossover has a rakish windscreen that flows into a long sloping roof. We can also see a nearly horizontal beltline as well as an expansive greenhouse. They’re joined by flush-mounted door handles, front fender lights, and curvaceous bodywork.

The streamlined styling continues out back with a curvy liftgate that eschews a spoiler. Designers also gave the crossover full-width taillights and a minimalist bumper with a large license plate recess.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

SHProshots

Genesis covered the interior in black and white camouflage, so it’s hard to determine what to expect. However, there should be a widescreen infotainment system and plenty of upscale amenities. Speaking of which, previous spy photos have shown a second-row center console with an integrated display as well as a wireless smartphone charger.

Genesis has been tight-lipped about the GV90, but recent rumors have suggested the model has been delayed until the summer of 2026. That remains to be seen, but the crossover could ride on the new eM platform, which is expected to be an evolution of the current E-GMP architecture.

Little else is known about the model, but it should be more advanced than the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. The latter model starts at $58,955 and features a 110.3 kWh battery pack as well as three different powertrains. The rear-wheel drive variant has 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS), while the most powerful all-wheel drive model has 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS). Drivers can also expect ranges of between 311 and 335 miles (501 and 539 km).

Mercedes Adds A Practical Twist To The New CLA

  • The CLA Shooting Brake has been spied ahead of an expected debut later this year.
  • The wagon follows in the footsteps of the sedan, but features a more practical rear end.
  • This prototype might be a hybrid, which features a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine.

The Mercedes-AMG CLA isn’t the only model losing camouflage as spy photographers have caught a lightly disguised CLA Shooting Brake on the Nürburgring. It follows in the footsteps of the regular model, but adopts a far more practical wagon physique.

Starting up front, there’s a familiar fascia with starry headlights and a traditional grille. The latter indicates this prototype is ICE-powered and this likely means it has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, a 1.3 kWh battery, and an electric motor that is integrated into an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

More: Starry But Soulless 2026 Mercedes CLA Leans On AI And Electric Power

We can also expect two electric variants with an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The CLA 250+ with EQ Technology has a rear-mounted motor developing 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 247 lb-ft (335 Nm) of torque, while the CLA 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 349 hp (260 kW / 354 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque. These powertrains give the sedan a WLTP range of up to 492 miles (792 km), but we wouldn’t be surprised if the wagon’s extra mass cuts into that number.

Getting back to styling, the CLA Shooting Brake features a long, sloping roof and a sleek, graceful beltline. These are complemented by an angular liftgate and the now-signature starry taillights that Mercedes seems to be slapping on every model these days, whether it’s warranted or not.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

The few glimpses of the interior reveal a familiar cabin that should have a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and an available 14-inch front passenger display. We can also expect AI, an MBUX Virtual Assistant, and a generous list of standard equipment.

Of course, the real star will be the added cargo space. While details on the wagon’s capacity are still under wraps, the sedan’s trunk only holds 14.3 cubic feet (405 liters), so the wagon should provide a more generous offering.

A New Hotspot For Car Production Is Rising In An Unexpected Place

  • Hyundai has officially started construction on its first plant in the Middle East.
  • Located in Saudi Arabia, the plant is expected to open by the end of next year.
  • The facility will produce up to 50,000 electric and ICE-powered vehicles annually.

Automakers are flocking to setup shop in a new location and it has nothing to do with Trump’s tariffs. in fact, quite the opposite, as Saudi Arabia has emerged as the automotive production capital of the Middle East.

Things kicked into high gear in 2023 when Lucid opened Advanced Manufacturing Plant 2 in the Kingdom. It assembles the Air using  semi-knock-down kits that are “pre-manufactured” at the company’s main plant in Casa Grande, Arizona.

More: Lucid Opens New Plant In Saudi Arabia, Will Build The Air EV

However, the plant aims to become a fully fledged production facility later this decade. If everything goes according to plan, it will be able to build up to 150,000 vehicles annually, which will be sold in Saudi Arabia as well as export markets.

While the Lucid plant wasn’t surprising considering Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund owned over 60% of the automaker at the time, Hyundai has now broken ground on a new plant in the King Salman Automotive Cluster within the King Abdullah Economic City. It will become the company’s first “production base” in the Middle East and it lays the “foundation for becoming a leading brand in Saudi Arabia.”

A New Hotspot For Car Production Is Rising In An Unexpected Place

The plant is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2026 and have an annual production capacity of 50,000 units. The company didn’t say what will be built at the facility, but confirmed it will make vehicles with electric powertrains as well as internal combustion engines.

The Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Middle East (HMMME) facility is a joint venture between the automaker and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The latter will have a 70% stake, while Hyundai controls the remaining 30%.

While Saudi Arabia is an unusual spot for automotive production, their sovereign wealth fund has been enticing automakers to setup shop in the country. The investments are part of a national development project known as Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy. As part of this effort, Saudi Arabia wants to be less reliant on oil production and vehicle manufacturing is part of that.

It’s Official, Dodge Is Killing The Electric Charger Daytona R/T

  • Dodge will discontinue the entry-level Charger Daytona R/T for the 2026 model year.
  • The Charger Daytona Scat Pack will remain in production and could receive a price cut.
  • A four-door variant of the Charger Daytona and twin-turbo engine are expected for 2026.

Update: A Dodge spokesperson reached out to confirm that the base Charger R/T will indeed be discontinued from the lineup, leaving the Scat Pack as the sole option in the electric Daytona range, at least for the 2026 model year.

“Production of the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T is postponed for the 2026 model year as we continue to assess the effects of U.S. tariff policies,” the company told us in a statement. “The Charger’s flexible, multi-energy STLA Large platform allows us to focus on the Charger Daytona Scat Pack’s performance as the world’s quickest and most powerful muscle car, add the new four-door model to the Charger mix for the 2026 model year and lean into the new Charger SIXPACK models that will launch in the second half of the year.”

Original story follows below.

It’s Official, Dodge Is Killing The Electric Charger Daytona R/T

Dodge has found itself in a bit of a pickle with the Charger Daytona, and let’s just say, the ‘brotherhood of muscle’ isn’t exactly embracing the EV revolution. In fact, it seems like their idea of “muscle” is still firmly rooted in gas-powered engines, leaving expensive electric coupes to languish on dealership lots, forcing huge markdowns.

A quick search online reveals a $61,590 Charger Daytona R/T listed for a mere $34,184 in Florida. Over in Texas, Richardson Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram has their $61,590 Charger Daytona R/T priced at $39,055.

More: Dodge Desperate To Sell Charger Daytona EVs, Prays Huge Discounts Will Lure Buyers

While those are just two examples, it’s clear the Charger Daytona was an answer to a question no one asked. Dodge might finally be acknowledging that as a new report suggests the entry-level R/T variant will be killed off for 2026.

We’ve reached out to Dodge for a comment and are still waiting for a response (as of this writing), but Mopar Insiders is reporting that the R/T was originally going to be an “order-only” model for 2026. However, given the dismal reception, Dodge is apparently preparing to pull the plug on it entirely.

Scat Pack and New Models

\\\\\\\\

The Charger Daytona Scat Pack is rumored to survive and it’s notable for featuring a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 630 hp (470 kW / 639 PS) and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque. That’s considerably more than the R/T’s 456 hp (340 kW / 462 PS) and 404 lb-ft (547 Nm).

While the 2025 Charger Daytona Scat Pack starts at $68,195 before a $1,995 destination fee, the 2026 model is reportedly getting a price cut. There’s no word on how much, but it appears to be dropping equipment and perks including the previously standard Track Pack.

Aside from the rumored elimination of the Daytona R/T, a four-door model is set to join the lineup in 2026. It will be accompanied by the previously announced twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six. The publication also says the 2026 Charger lineup will gain a new wheel design as well as a stripe package that was previewed at Springfest.

Mercedes Will Fix New CLA EV’s Charging Crisis From Next Year

  • Mercedes has confirmed the CLA will support both 400V and 800V chargers in the States.
  • Initially, the CLA EV will be limited to 800V charging, with future models getting a converter.
  • The new electric sedan will offer two power outputs: 268 hp and 349 hp, the latter with AWD.

Mercedes has made more than a few questionable decisions in recent years, but one of the most baffling had to be limiting the CLA EV to 800V DC fast-charging stations. This drastically restricted were owners could recharge, which is an odd move, to put it mildly, considering a lack of charging infrastructure is often cited as a reason why people won’t buy electric vehicles.

The decision seemed so puzzling that we couldn’t help but ask, what were they thinking? We now have an answer as Mercedes wanted to showcase the CLA’s 320 kW DC fast-charging capability that can deliver up to 202 miles (325 km) of range in just 10 minutes.

More: What Were They Thinking? Mercedes CLA EV Can Only Use 800V DC Fast Chargers

While that’s kind of an explanation, the company has now revealed future U.S. models will be able to charge at both 400V and 800V charging stations.

As a Mercedes-Benz USA spokesperson explained to us, “After the initial limited delivery of cars late this year for demonstration of the CLA’s fast-charging abilities, 2026 US customer orders from early next year will feature a converter and be capable of charging at 400V and faster 800V” stations. They went on to say this means the car will be able to access more than 140,000 charging points across America.

\\\\\\\\\\

While the initial messaging was muddied, Mercedes did attempt to explain the thinking behind it. “Public charging point technology varies across the world, and the networks widely available in the U.S. and Europe are different. We’re committed to offering our customers the best experience and believe fast-charging at 800V gives the best and most convenient experience.”

Faster charging speeds are certainly welcome, but drastically reducing where people can charge isn’t. In the end, Mercedes seems to have realized that.

Toyota Made An Electric Subaru Outback As Powerful As A Supra

  • Toyota has introduced the 2026 bZ Woodland, which is their version of the Subaru Trailseeker.
  • It’s nearly 6 inches longer than the standard bZ and features an AWD system with 375 hp.
  • The electric crossover comes with an NACS port, but only offers up to 260 miles of range.

Just when you thought Toyota was finally ditching complicated names, it introduces the 2026 bZ Woodland. While it’s natural to assume this is an off-road-inspired trim of the facelifted bZ (formerly the bZ4X), it’s actually a different vehicle, albeit one that shares a lot in common with the original.

That decision probably leaves many scratching their heads, but what matters is that this is essentially Toyota’s version of the Subaru Trailseeker, with both models based on their respective Solterra and bZ cousins. As a result, the bZ Woodlands is part crossover and part wagon, not unlike Subaru’s Outback.

While it’s easy to confuse the bZ and bZ Woodland at first glance, the latter model is more wagon- esque as it’s almost 6 inches (152 mm) longer and nearly an inch (25 mm) taller than its counterpart. Furthermore, the bZ Woodland has roof rails and unique 18-inch wheels that can be wrapped in available all-terrain tires. The model also sports 8.3 inches (211 mm) of ground clearance, which is only a hair less than the RAV4.

A Minimalist, But Well-Equipped Cabin

The déjà vu design theme continues inside as drivers will find a freestanding digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment system. They’re joined by a bulky steering wheel and more than 30 cubic feet (850 liters) of rear cargo space.

The bZ Woodland will be sold in a single trim that comes equipped with heated SofTex front seats, a dual wireless smartphone charger, and a six-speaker audio system. A Premium package will be available and it adds a nine-speaker JBL premium audio system, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, and a radiant heater.

Speaking of equipment, the bZ Woodland comes with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver assistance systems. It includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist (Lane Centering), and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. There’s also Road Sign Assist, Proactive Driving Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist. Rounding out the highlights are Safe Exit Alert, a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and a Panoramic View Monitor with a Multi-Terrain Monitor.

375 HP And 260 Miles Of Range

\\\\\\\\\\\\

The ‘wagonover’ rides on the e-TNGA platform and features a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS). Toyota didn’t say much about the powertrain, but noted the model has an X-Mode system and a Grip-Control function. The latter promises to leverage “motor drive power modulation to achieve capable off-road performance.”

More: Toyota’s C-HR Returns For 2026 As An All-Electric Coupe-Crossover

The electric motors are powered by a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which promises to deliver a so-so range of up to 260 miles (418 km). When the battery is low, it can go from a 10-80% charge in around 30 minutes with a DC fast charger. Other notable charging features include a North American Charging System (NACS) port, a pre-conditioning function, and a Plug & Charge capability. Toyota also said the EV will have a 3,500 lb (1,588 kg) towing capacity.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Global Availability

While US and Canadian pricing will be announced closer to the launch date in early 2026, expect the bZ Woodland to cost more than the less powerful dual-motor bZ4X (Toyota has yet to reveal pricing for the facelifted bZ), which currently ranges from around $41,000 to $46,000. That said, it’s likely to be priced at around $50,000.

The bZ Woodland will also be sold worldwide, including in Japan starting in the second half of next year and in Europe from spring 2026. However, in these markets, it will be sold under a different name: bZ4X Touring.

The Most Chic Hatch From Stellantis Just Got a New Identity

  • DS has introduced the new N°4, which replaces the current DS4.
  • The model features revised styling and an updated interior.
  • Customers can get electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid powertrains.

DS Automobiles has revealed the N°4, essentially a rebranded and refreshed version of the DS4. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s flagship N°8, the new model marks a pretty notable departure from its predecessor, with design updates that give it a more premium feel while retaining a familiar aesthetic.

Starting up front, the premium hatchback adopts an all-new front fascia with a slender grille that lights up. It’s joined by an illuminated DS logo as well as revised daytime running lights. Designers also added a more expressive bumper with a visually expanded lower intake. Elsewhere, the hood has been extended by 0.5 inches (12 mm) to cover part of the grille.

Moving further back, we can see a familiar profile and 19- or 20-inch wheels. They’re joined by a ‘floating’ roof, which can be had in a contrasting black color. The subtle changes continue out back with dark accents and new badging.

A Familiar, But Improved Cabin

\\\\\\\\

While the exterior sports some notable changes, the cabin is instantly recognizable. However, there’s a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment system.

The company didn’t have much else to say about the interior, but higher-end variants offer Alcantara and Criollo Brown Nappa leather as well as brown ash wood trim. Customers can also get heated front seats, a wireless smartphone charger, and a 14 speaker Focal audio system.

In terms of space, the Hybrid can hold 15.2 cubic feet (430 liters) of luggage while the Plug-In Hybrid comes up short at 12.7 cubic feet (360 liters). The EV effectively splits the difference at 13.8 cubic feet (390 liters).

A Powertrain For Everyone

\\\\\\

The fully electric N°4 E-Tense features a 58.3 kWh battery pack and an electric motor developing 210 hp (157 kW / 213 PS) and 253 lb-ft (343 Nm) of torque. This gives the car a WLTP combined range of 280 miles (450 km). When the battery is low, a 120 kW DC fast charger can take it from 20% to 80% in around 30 minutes.

The N°4 Plug-In Hybrid has a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor that has been integrated into a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. They’re joined by a new 14.6 kWh battery, which increases the electric-only range by 30%.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Jumping into the numbers, the PHEV has a combined output of 222 hp (165 kW / 225 PS) and 265 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.1 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster than its predecessor. Besides being faster, the hatch has an electric-only combined range of up to 50 miles (81 km).

Customers looking for a more traditional experience can opt for the N°4 Hybrid. It features a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated electric motor. This means the model has 143 hp (107 kW / 145 PS) and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) of torque. DS also said drivers can expect to travel in “all-electric [mode] for up to 50% of the time during urban use, depending on traffic conditions and driving style.”

This AMG Is Coming For Tesla’s Model 3 Performance

  • The 2026 Mercedes-AMG CLA has been spied wearing less camouflage than ever before.
  • The high-performance sedan has a unique front bumper and an active rear spoiler.
  • Reports have suggested the car could have a tri-motor powertrain with more than 500 hp.

The new Mercedes CLA EV hasn’t even launched in many regions outside of Europe, including North America, yet development is already well underway for the upcoming AMG variant. As a debut nears, the camouflage is starting to come off and reveal more about the high-performance model.

Starting up front, we can see a unique front bumper with large intakes. They’re joined by a new central opening, which features a unique mesh pattern. Additional details are hard to make out, but the model has a fully enclosed grille as well as starry headlights.

The styling makeover continues with sportier sides skirts and lightweight wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The latter are backed up by a beefy braking system, which sports red calipers up front. We can also see what appears to be AMG-specific badging on the front fender.

The rear end doesn’t look too remarkable at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals an active spoiler. We can also expect a modified bumper and diffuser to help distinguish the AMG variant from the regular model.

\\\\\\\\\\

SHProshots

Spy photographers didn’t get a good look inside, but the cabin should have a minimalist interior with a sport steering wheel and a handful of special touches. We can also expect a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display.

Mercedes has been tight-lipped about powertrain details, but previous reports have suggested the car will have axial flux motors developed by Mercedes’ Yasa subsidiary. There could be a total of three motors altogether, giving the car a combined output in excess of 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS).

Also: The New Mercedes CLA EV Can Only Use 800V DC Fast Chargers

That should put it in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which delivers 510 hp and a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, along with a top speed of 163 mph (262 km/h).

Rumors have also suggested the AMG variant will have a unique battery pack and a “V8 Mode.” The latter reportedly replicates the sound of a roaring V8, as even Mercedes appears to be acknowledging that’s what people actually want.

\\\

Power comes from a 105 kWh (usable: 97 kWh) battery pack, which feeds a dual-motor all-wheel drive system developing 496 hp (370 kW / 503 PS) or 577 hp (430 kW / 585 PS) with Launch Control. This enables the car to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in as little as four seconds. By comparison, the S e-tron quattro delivers up to 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) with Launch Control for a 0-62 run in 3.4 seconds.

Besides being fast, the e-tron GT quattro is 66.1 lbs (30 kg) lighter than the S variant and has a range of up to 387 miles (622 km). When the battery is low, customers will be thankful for the 320 kW DC fast charging capability that can deliver up to 177 miles (285 km) of range in as little as ten minutes.

Audi is now accepting orders, with German pricing starting at €108,900 (around $118,000 at current exchange rates), a notable drop from the previous entry-level S e-tron GT, which started at €126,000 ($141,000). In the United Kingdom, the quattro will arrive in August, priced at £88,555 ($111,000) It will also be offered in a better-equipped Vorsprung variant for £108,055 ($134,000).

GM’s Secret Battery Breakthrough Could Slash EV Costs

  • GM and LG will put lithium manganese-rich (LMR) batteries into production by 2028.
  • These use a unique cell chemistry that has high amounts of manganese and little cobalt.
  • The new batteries promise a 33% higher energy density than LFP batteries at a comparable cost.

General Motors and LG Energy have announced plans to use lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic battery cells in electric trucks and full-size SUVs. The automaker intends to be the first to use LMR batteries and production is slated to begin by 2028.

GM says LMR batteries are a breakthrough as traditional battery cathodes require nickel, manganese, and expensive cobalt. This drives up prices and makes EVs expensive.

More: Stellantis’ Solid-State Battery With 18-Minute Fast Charging Is Almost Ready

LMR batteries seek to address this by using a “higher proportion of more affordable manganese.” They also promise to deliver a “greater capacity and energy density.”

The companies didn’t go into many specifics, but said their new LMR prismatic battery cell has a  33% higher energy density than the best-performing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, despite having a comparable cost.

\\\

So what does this all mean? We can expect an electric truck that delivers more than 400 miles (644 km) of range as well as “significant battery pack cost savings compared to today’s high-nickel pack.” That would be a welcome development as the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV LT Extended Range starts at $75,195 and has an EPA-estimated range of up to 408 miles (657 km).

GM’s director of advanced battery cell engineering said the batteries are the result of a decade of development. Kushal Narayanaswamy went on to say GM’s current crop of electric trucks and SUVs use NMCA batteries and these have a composition that is roughly 85% nickel, 10% manganese, and 5% cobalt. LMR batteries are vastly different as they’re about 65% manganese, 35% nickel, and use “virtually no cobalt.” In effect, they use more of the cheaper materials and less of the expensive ones.

GM Just Crushed Dreams Of A Corvette-Based Cadillac

  • GM boss Mark Reuss says a new Cadillac XLR doesn’t align with their brand strategy.
  • A modern Cadillac XLR would reportedly share too much with the Corvette platform.
  • Cadillac Celestiq deliveries are expected to begin soon after long software-related delays.

The Cadillac XLR is nearly 20 years old, but it’s still fondly remembered today. While it wasn’t perfect, the idea of transforming a Corvette into a luxurious flagship to battle the best Germany has to offer still packs plenty of appeal.

That’s especially true now that the Corvette moved to a mid-engine layout. This would seemingly make a new XLR a perfect addition to Cadillac’s lineup, and a V-Series variant based on the 1,064 hp (793 kW / 1,079 PS) ZR1 would be wonderfully insane.

More: Cadillac’s Opulent Velocity Concept Is The Electric Hypercar Of The Future

Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen as GM President Mark Reuss recently told CNBC that a modern-day XLR wouldn’t mesh with Cadillac’s brand strategy. It calls on vehicles to share platforms with mainstream brands, but be truly unique thanks to bold designs, special interiors, and additional changes.

GM Just Crushed Dreams Of A Corvette-Based Cadillac

While the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon have a lot in common, the luxury SUV feels like its own vehicle thanks to an exclusive cabin. It features a 55-inch pillar-to-pillar display as well as an available Executive Second Row package, which adds a rear center console with a digital command center, dual wireless smartphone chargers, and retractable tray tables. Buyers can also get the Escalade-V, which has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 developing 682 hp (508 kW / 691 PS) and 653 lb-ft (885 Nm) of torque.

A modern-day XLR, on the other hand, would have reportedly been too much like the Corvette. As Reuss explained, “It was developed as a secondary car to the Corvette” and “we would never do that” now.

Celestiq Is Being Relaunched, Despite Never Launching

\\\\\\\\\\\\

Michael Gauthier / Carscoops

The Cadillac Celestiq debuted in 2022, but you’ve probably never seen one. That’s not surprising, as it still hasn’t been delivered to customers. Production was expected to begin in December of 2023, with deliveries set for the following year. As part of the preparations for launch, we visited Cadillac House in 2024 and were told the Celestiq has attracted “many” customers.

Hopefully, they’re a patient bunch as Reuss told the publication “We didn’t want to execute the car without everything being perfect on the software front.” He added they’re “relaunching the car.”

That’s a disappointing return to the ultra-luxury segment, but the first customer deliveries will reportedly begin by the middle of the year. Interestingly, if the model proves successful, it could reportedly spawn a line of hand-built vehicles. This suggests the well-received Sollei concept could eventually go into production.

Cadillac Primed For Success, But Still Isn’t The Standard Of The World

GM Just Crushed Dreams Of A Corvette-Based Cadillac

While several luxury brands are in a bind due to Trump’s tariffs, Cadillac could benefit as most of its vehicles are made in the United States. The CT4 and CT5 are made at Lansing Grand River Assembly in Michigan, while the Celestiq and Escalade IQ are built in Detroit (or nearby). The standard Escalade is made in Texas, while the Lyriq and Vistiq call Tennessee home.

One of the few models made outside of the United States is the Optiq that’s built at the Ramos Arizpe Assembly plant in Mexico.

Cadillac has made a lot of progress in the past few years, but there’s still room for improvement. Reuss acknowledged as much as he said the brand was not the ‘standard of the world’ and “still isn’t.” However, he contends the “vision is there and it’s pretty clear.”

Faraday Future Lost $44 Million And Only Delivered Two Cars In Q1

  • Faraday Future had a dismal first quarter as they only delivered two units of its FF 91 EV.
  • The company made a paltry $300,000 in revenue and posted an operating loss of $43.8 million.
  • Despite claims of 1,300 pre-orders for the Super One van, only three of them are binding.

Faraday Future has big plans including a new mainstream FX brand. It’s expected to offer an assortment of vehicles including a Super One minivan, an FX 6 crossover, and an entry-level FX 5 that costs between $20,000 and $30,000.

That’s a lot of new product, but Faraday Future doesn’t exactly have the best track record. On top of that, they’ve released their first quarter financial results, which paint a concerning picture.

More: Faraday X Super One Minivan Teased With A Big Honkin’ Grille

How bad? In the first quarter, the company delivered a grand total of two cars. That’s less than one per month, but it didn’t stop the automaker from proclaiming they expanded their “client base” and officially entered the East Coast market thanks to a delivery in New York.

That’s some glass half full thinking and things only get worse from there. Given dismal sales of the FF 91, the company only generated $300,000 (£225,576 / €266,712) in revenue from deliveries and leases.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Faraday continues to hemorrhage money. While the press release didn’t mention their net loss, it was buried in their financial presentation and totaled over $10.2 (£7.7 / €9.2) million. However, it’s $43.8 (£33.2 / €39.5) million operating loss is more eye-catching.

\\\\\\\\\\

Those are some bleak numbers and their release had more warnings than a five alarm fire. These included the company’s “history of losses and expectation of continued losses” as well as risks related to operations in China.

Faraday Future did reiterate some good news including a pre-order agreement for 1,000 FX Super One vans from JC Auto. However, the forward looking statement burst that bubble as it noted the true number “may be as few as two.”

Likewise, the previously announced pre-order deal with Sky Horse Auto for 300 MPVs could be “as few as one.” On the bright side, their $30,000 (£22,550 / €26,658) deposit was non-refundable and that’s big money for a firm like Faraday.

This Retro Revival Took 3D Printers And A Whole Lot Of Patience

  • Scout Motors has provided a glimpse at an early mockup for the Traveler SUV.
  • 3D-printed parts helped designers perfect every surface, angle, and detail by hand.
  • The SUV launches in 2027 with electric and gas-extended range drivetrain options.

Redesigning an iconic model is an incredibly difficult task as there’s a lot of history, anticipation, and pressure. It’s a feeling that Mustang designers know all too well, but there are plenty of other models with high-stakes including the Bronco, Charger, and Mercedes G-Class.

We’d also throw Scout into that category, but their situation is drastically different. The last International Harvester Scout was built on October 21, 1980 and marked the end of an era as over 500,000 had been made over the course of the preceding two decades.

While Scout had become a distant memory, Volkswagen revived the brand and, thankfully, decided to embrace its roots. As part of this effort, they wanted a retro-inspired design that acknowledged the past but was still modern.

That’s easier said than done and the company recently revealed “bringing back an icon doesn’t happen overnight.” They went on to say the Traveler and Terra started as a “blank sheet of paper” and the design team obsessed over every curve, angle, beltline, and radius.

While that’s to be expected, the company also used modern production methods to ensure the models were perfect. As part of this effort, 3D-printed parts played a role in making sure the vehicles were the best they could be. As Scout explained, the end result is “Not rushed. Not generic. Not a box.”

You can add not coming anytime soon as production isn’t slated to begin until 2027. However, when they arrive, pricing could start as low as $50,000 with incentives.

Scout hasn’t revealed many specifications, but electric variants are slated to offer a range of up to 350 miles (563 km). There will also be an extended range variant with a gas-powered generator.

VW Is Making A New GTI, But Not The One We Want

  • VW is preparing a 335 hp rear-drive ID.3 GTI to launch sometime next year.
  • It will slot above the GTX Performance with minor power and chassis upgrades.
  • Pricing in Europe is likely to exceed that of both the Golf GTI and Clubsport trims.

Volkswagen isn’t wasting time signaling that the GTI nameplate won’t be left behind in the EV transition. The German automaker dropped a pretty clear hint when it rolled out the ID. GTI Concept at the 2023 Munich Motor Show. While that concept was aimed at previewing the upcoming ID.2 GTI, signs now point to an ID.3 GTI being next in line.

According to a report from Auto Motor und Sport, the car will slot above the ID.3 GTX Performance, which features a 79 kWh battery pack and an electric motor developing 322 hp (240 kW / 326 PS) and 402 lb-ft (545 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the hot hatch to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.7 seconds and have a WLTP range of up to 373 miles (602 km).

While little is known about the GTI variant at this point, the publication says it will arrive next year and be rear-wheel drive. However, don’t expect it to be significantly more powerful than the ID.3 GTX Performance.

Quite the opposite as they suggest the car could only have around 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS). That’s not much of a boost, but the upgraded powertrain could be accompanied by “extensive modifications to the chassis … intended to enable even more agile handling.”

Besides the performance and handling tweaks, the car would likely incorporate a number of GTI styling cues. The hot hatch should also build on the ID.3 GTX Performance, which has revised steering, a retuned suspension, and an available DCC adaptive chassis system.

All of this will likely lead to steep pricing as the ID.3 GTX Performance starts at €48,725 ($54,706) in Germany. To put that into perspective, the Golf GTI starts at €45,655 ($51,255) while the GTI Clubsport begins at €49,225 ($55,263).

Stellantis’ Presidential Ride Is A French Flag On Wheels

  • DS Automobiles has unveiled a new car for the President of the French Republic.
  • It’s a one-off DS N°8, which is armored and features a host of special touches.
  • The interior is the star of the show thanks to blue leather and straw marquetry.

French President Emmanuel Macron has a new ride as DS Automobiles has unveiled the Presidential DS N°8. Introduced as part of the 80th anniversary celebrations for V-E Day, the one-off model sports an assortment of special touches.

Starting outside, there’s a unique Sapphire Blue exterior with contrasting black accents. They’re joined by a special DS Luminascreeen grille, which illuminates blue, white, and red as a nod to the French flag. Speaking of which, there are flag holders on the front bumper. The model also sports a retractable soft top as well as blue, white, and red badges.

The blue theme continues inside with Dream Blue Alcantara and Nappa leather upholstery. They’re accompanied by pleated door panels, pearl contrast stitching, and a Focal audio system.

More notably, the Presidential DS N°8 has beautiful straw marquetry. It’s made from rye straw, which has been dyed and arranged in an elegant fan pattern. The resulting trim looks fantastic and is an interesting departure from the typical wood found in luxury cars.

The company didn’t say much else about the interior, but it appears to feature a familiar digital instrument cluster and 16-inch infotainment system. We can also see a handful of special controls hidden beneath the floating center console. Some of these appear to operate flashing lights and, perhaps, a siren.

DS was tight-lipped about powertrain specifics, but confirmed the model has a range of up to 466 miles (750 km). This suggests the Presidential DS N°8 is based on the Long Range FWD variant, which has a 97.2 kWh battery pack as well as a 242 hp (180 kW / 245 PS) electric motor. However, we probably shouldn’t read too much into those numbers as the car is armored and this will undoubtedly impact its performance.

AUDI’s Capitalized EV Has A Laughably Lowercase Frunk

  • After its debut in Shanghai, the AUDI E5 Sportback is grabbing plenty of attention.
  • However, it’s not the kind the brand wants as its tiny frunk has become an online joke.
  • The electric E5 Sportback will be launched in China this summer offering up to 776 hp.

Audi’s AUDI, which, ironically, is not an Audi, has always struck us as a bit ridiculous, and that seems to be a theme for the model. Not only does it sport a name that sounds like it was picked by the least imaginative people on Earth, but it also comes with a ridiculously small frunk.

How small? Roughly the size of a shoe box judging by an image that has surfaced on social media. While there’s no immediate word on its dimensions or capacity, opening the hood reveals a large expanse of black plastic. In the center is a small opening, which appears to be carpeted and barely useful.

While some frunk is better than no frunk at all, the AUDI E5 Sportback’s compartment is far from impressive. This helps to explain the strong reaction on social media.

Set to be launched in China this summer, the E5 Sportback is a glorified wagon that lacks a four-ring logo. The model also features a “reinterpretation of the familiar Singleframe” grille with a Light Frame surround. The latter consists of more than 1,000 individual lights and they’re joined by Matrix LED headlights. Other notable highlights include digital side mirrors and frameless doors.

In terms of size, the model measures 192.2 inches (4,881 mm) long, 77.1 inches (1,959 mm) wide, and 58.2 inches (1,478 mm) tall. This means the E5 is 4.3 inches (109 mm) shorter than the redesigned A6.

The company hasn’t said much about the interior, but it’s dominated by a 59-inch pillar-to-pillar display. Two screens showing footage from the digital side mirrors act as bookends and the display-focused setup gives the car a high-tech persona.

The rest of the cabin sports a minimalist design largely devoid of switchgear. However, there’s a 50 watt wireless smartphone charger, a Bose audio system, and an electrochromic sunroof. Buyers will also find an AI assistant, chestnut wood trim, and a fragrance diffuser.

The car rides on the Advanced Digitized Platform and will offer rear- and all-wheel drive. These will have outputs ranging from 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) to 776 hp (579 kW / 787 PS). The latter variant will rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in a mere 3.4 seconds.

AUDI has been coy on additional details, but the E5 will be offered with up to a 100 kWh battery pack. This will provide a range of up to 478 miles (770 km). When the battery is low, an ultra-fast charger can deliver 230 miles (370 km) of range in as little as ten minutes.

The E5 Sportback also promises to have advanced driver assistance systems that will make commutes a breeze. Besides the roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, there are three long-range millimeter-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors, eleven cameras, and several multi-modal sensing units.
