Nissan Fixed The Ariya Right After Ghosting America

  • Nissan previewed the updated Ariya before its debut at the Japan Mobility Show.
  • The EV features a grille-less face, a new infotainment, and upgraded suspension.
  • Fourth-generation Elgrand hybrid minivan will also premiere at the same event.

Like they say, life goes on. While the Nissan Ariya may be on its way out of the U.S. lineup after the 2025 model year, a refreshed version has just broken cover in Japan. The facelifted electric crossover will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, where it will share the spotlight with the next-generation Elgrand minivan and several other new arrivals.

Originally introduced in 2020, the Ariya didn’t enter production until 2022. Three years on, Nissan has decided it’s time for a thorough update to keep the electric SUV looking fresh against an ever-growing list of rivals.

New Looks and Tech

The most noticeable change is the redesigned front end, which adopts a cleaner, grille-free appearance paired with Leaf-inspired LED headlights. The bumper has been reworked for a simpler look that drops the previous side intakes, while the lower intake gains a more restrained shape. The fog lights have quietly disappeared as well, streamlining the overall design.

The profile is carried over, but the five spoke alloy wheels have gained a new texture, combined with a fresh color option for the exterior. Nissan didn’t share photos of the rear end, where we expect more subtle updates.

Besides the new looks, the Ariya will gain a Google-powered infotainment, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, and a revised suspension setup “tailored for Japanese roads”. There is no word on any changes to the electric powertrain options and battery packs.

Underneath, a revised suspension setup tuned specifically for Japanese roads aims to deliver a more composed and comfortable drive. So far, Nissan hasn’t mentioned any updates to the electric powertrain or battery options.

The refreshed Ariya will reach Japanese showrooms later in the fiscal year. Whether it returns to the U.S. market for the 2027 model year remains uncertain.

The Next-Gen Elgrand Steps Forward

Another major highlight of Nissan’s Tokyo showcase will be the all-new, fourth-generation Elgrand. Previewed through earlier teasers, the new model takes inspiration from the futuristic-looking 2023 Hyper Tourer concept.

At the front, it features a sculpted nose with pixel-like LEDs and body-colored elements blending with its covered grille. We can also see it has sliding doors, more curves on its boxy silhouette, and full-width taillights.

Under the skin, the Elgrand will use Nissan’s third-generation e-Power hybrid setup. This combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that acts purely as a generator with electric motors driving the wheels, resulting in smooth, quiet performance and improved efficiency.

The new hybrid configuration positions the Elgrand to compete more directly with the Toyota Alphard. Nissan also promises an upgraded interior with enhanced comfort, finer materials, and more advanced driver-assistance technology.

The market launch of the all-new Elgrand is expected in 2026. The previous generations debuted in 1997, 2002, and 2010 respectively.

Expanding Mobility Concepts

In addition to its production vehicles, Nissan will present an autonomous mobility service prototype based on the Serena minivan. The pilot program begins in November near Nissan’s Yokohama headquarters, aiming to test transport solutions for Japan’s aging population.

The brand’s booth will also feature a full roster of vehicles, including the newly launched Leaf, the next-generation Roox kei car, the recently facelifted X-Trail Rock Creek, the Fairlady Z, and the upcoming 2026 Skyline 400R Limited Edition.

New Chevy Bolt Is Back But Costs Thousands More Than The Leaf

  • The updated Bolt features a 65 kWh LFP battery with 255-mile range.
  • Chevy added a NACS port and boosted DC charging speeds to 150 kW.
  • Power comes from the same 210 hp motor used in the Equinox EV.

In a market where federal tax credits are no longer cushioning electric car prices, the upcoming 2027 Chevrolet Bolt arrives as GM’s latest attempt to keep affordable EVs within reach. Shown off quietly to existing owners, the 2027 model rolls in at $29,990 including destination fees, offering a handful of upgrades over its predecessor rather than any sweeping reinvention.

Read: 2027 Chevy Bolt Just Showed Up Completely Undisguised At A Tesla Station

This represents a modest price increase over the 2023 model that was discontinued two years ago, and although it remains the most affordable EV from an American brand, the new Bolt still sits several thousand dollars above the entry-level 2026 Nissan Leaf, which is due to arrive next spring starting at $25,360.

Production and Core Specs

At a recent event, Chevrolet confirmed that production of the 2027 Bolt will begin early next year at its Kansas City facility. As revealed in recent images, the electric hatch will include a standard NACS charging port, aligning it with the new industry standard.

It has also been confirmed to come standard with a new 65 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery pack that will provide it with 255 miles (410 km) of driving range, according to GM’s own estimates. That represents a modest improvement over the outgoing model’s 247-mile figure.

\\\\\

Photos Chevrolet

Beyond boasting a better range than the outgoing Bolt, the new one’s DC charging speeds are no longer capped at 50 kW. Instead, it can charge at up to 150 kW, meaning the battery can be topped up from 10-80 percent in 26 minutes. That’s a big improvement over the old model and matches the charging speeds of the new Leaf.

Chevy has also equipped the Bolt with a new motor, borrowing the unit found in the Equinox EV and producing 210 hp. Performance times have yet to be announced, not that Bolt owners are the kinds of buyers that’ll be participating in traffic light races.

Pricing and Trims

The 2027 Bolt will debut first as a Launch Edition, starting at $29,990 with destination and delivery included. A slightly more affordable LT trim will follow next year priced from $28,995.

From a visual standpoint, the alterations made to the Bolt are less significant than many had expected. Indeed, it mostly looks like a facelifted version of the outgoing model. Key changes made include the fitment of new headlights, different taillights, and a unique tailgate with a redesigned bumper.

The interior is also very similar. However, Chevy has added a larger digital instrument cluster and moved away from gear selector buttons on the transmission tunnel, instead opting for an electronic column shifter.

A particularly welcome addition is a set of large physical dials for temperature and fan speed, providing straightforward control without touchscreen fuss. Two new storage compartments now sit within the dashboard, directly in front of the passenger, adding extra practicality to the cabin.

This EV Charges Almost As Fast As A Gas Car Takes To Refuel

  • Zeekr’s updated 001 can charge from 10-80 percent in a mere 7 minutes.
  • Power comes from two electric motors with 912 hp driving all four wheels.
  • Several updates have also been made to the 001’s interior for the 2026 MY.

Long charging times have long been considered one of the biggest disadvantages of electric vehicles, particularly when compared to how quickly you can refuel an ICE-powered car. However, Chinese automaker Zeekr has just unveiled an updated version of the 001 shooting brake, turning it into one that appears to be the fastest-charging EV on the planet.

Now, when we say the 001 charges as quickly as it takes to refuel a combustion-powered car, don’t rush to take a stopwatch to verify it, but it’s close enough to be quite impressive.

Lightning-Quick Refill

Thanks to the implementation of a new 900-volt electric architecture and Zeekr’s ‘Golden Brick’ battery, one version of the 001 can be charged from 10-80 percent in just 7 minutes.

Read: Zeekr 007 EV Can Get 80% Charge In Just Ten Minutes

That figure is particularly remarkable given that this model has a reasonably sizeable 95 kWh battery pack, rather than a small one that can charge quickly.

Zeekr claims the new and improved 001 supports charging speeds of up to 1,140 kW. In the US, only Tesla’s Megachargers, developed for the Semi, can deliver those kinds of speeds, but in China, Zeekr has already started rolling out 1,300 kW stations.

This EV Charges Almost As Fast As A Gas Car Takes To Refuel

Power To Match The Speed

Zekr will sell the new 001 with the 95 kWh pack exclusively in all-wheel drive guise. This version features dual electric motors that combine to deliver 912 hp, allowing for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in a dazzling 2.83 seconds.

The 95 kWh model has a claimed CLTC range of 441 miles (710 km), which is more than adequate even under China’s rather optimistic standards.

A version with a 103 kWh pack, using CATL’s Qilin battery tech, will also be available, boosting range to 437 miles (762 km), but not quite matching the charging speeds of the Golden Brick battery. That’s not to say models with the 103 kWh pack don’t charge quickly. In fact, they can go from 10-80 percent in just 10 minutes.

Plenty of other upgrades have been made to the Zeekr 001. For example, it comes with a panoramic glass roof embedded with individual LEDs that’s designed to mimic the Starlight headliner you’ll find in a Rolls-Royce.

The new model also includes a large infotainment display, a 39.3-inch head-up display, a 13-inch instrument cluster, and an 8-inch display at the rear.

Final pricing details have yet to be announced, but Zeekr has announced that customer deliveries will start in the coming days.

Nissan’s Most Expensive Leaf Yet Misses Out On A Key Feature

  • Japan gets its own version of the new Nissan Leaf with a range-topping Autech trim.
  • It features a sportier bodykit, unique 19-inch wheels, and a more premium interior.
  • Autech variant doesn’t bring any performance or chassis upgrades over the standard EV.

The latest generation of the Nissan Leaf has arrived in Japan, marking its official launch in the brand’s home market after making its first appearance in North America earlier this year.

The all-electric fastback crossover retains much of its global character but introduces a few domestic-market distinctions, including an Autech edition that leans more toward a sportier, higher-end feel, within the practical and monetary constraints of the category.

At 4,360 mm (171.7 inches) long, the Japanese Leaf is 44 mm (1.7 inches) shorter than the version sold in the United States. Like its European counterpart, it omits amber indicators, while the rest of the design remains the same. Only the range-topping model gets the distinctive Z-inspired LED taillights, which lend a sharper look to the rear end

More: Nissan Says An AWD Leaf Could Happen, But Isn’t Sure It Should

Inside, the Japanese Leaf comes equipped with twin 12.3-inch displays, though it skips the larger 14.3-inch setup offered elsewhere. What it lacks in screen size, it makes up for in equipment, featuring an optional dimming panoramic glass roof, a 10-speaker Bose Plus Sound System, and V2H (Vehicle to Home) capability.

Autech Adds Visual Drama

Nissan’s in-house Autech division has given the Leaf a sportier presence. The bespoke bodykit introduces a prominent splitter with aluminum accents that continue across the side inserts, mirror caps, and rear skirt. A black grille, blue daytime running lights, unique bumper detailing, and Autech badging round out the looks.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
\\\\\\\

Nissan

The Leaf Autech also sits on exclusive 19-inch aluminum wheels and can be specified in Deep Ocean Blue paired with a Super Black roof. Buyers can also choose from Prism White with Super Black or a full Midnight Black finish.

More: Nissan Will Build A Leaf NISMO If Enough Of You Shout Loud Enough

As with most Autech models, the dark-themed interior is more premium than the standard Leaf. It stands out thanks to the black upholstery with blue stitching and piping. It also comes with a unique pattern and Autech embroidery on the seats, special seatbelts, and branded floor mats.

Even without the larger dual-screen cockpit seen in other markets, equipment levels remain generous, including cold-weather amenities such as heated rear seats.

Specifications And Range

At launch, the Japanese Leaf is available exclusively in B7 form, offered in two trims, X and G. Power comes from a single electric motor producing 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) and 355 Nm (261.8 lb-ft) of torque, sent to the front wheels. The Autech variant shares this setup, meaning there are no added performance or chassis tweaks beyond its sharper styling.

The 78 kWh battery promises an impressive 702 km (436 miles) of range under the WLTC cycle, which tends to be more optimistic than Europe’s WLTP (604 km / 375 miles) and America’s EPA estimate (488 km / 303 miles).

An entry-level B5 model, with a smaller battery and less power, will join the range later, along with a corresponding Autech version for those wanting the look without the higher spec.

Pricing

Pricing for the Japanese-market Leaf starts at ¥5,188,700 (around $34,000) for the B7 X trim, rising to ¥5,999,400 ($39,300) for the top-spec B7 G. The Autech commands a higher entry price at ¥6,513,100 ($42,700), with optional extras pushing it higher still. Deliveries across Japan are expected to begin in early 2026.

In the United States, pricing remains more accessible, with the entry-level S starting at $25,360 and the Platinum+ topping out at $38,990.

Renault’s Newest, Smallest EV Will Leave VW’s ID.1 For Dead

  • Renault has teased its fourth-generation Twingo ahead of next month’s launch.
  • The sub-Clio-sized hatch is going electric and should cost under £17k/€20k.
  • Design is inspired by the 1990s Twingo and was previewed by 2024 concept.

Renault is primed to deliver its third mashup of electric power and feelgood retro design. The all-new, fourth-generation Twingo E-Tech makes its debut on November 6, less than a month from now.

The sub £17k/€20k hatch is a size down from the Clio and 5 E-Tech, and a direct rival for the production version of Volkswagen’s ID. Every1 concept, which could be called ID. Lupo. But the VW isn’t due to launch until 2027, meaning Renault, as well as BYD with its new Dolphin Surf, have a big headstart.

Related: This Frog-Faced EV Is The Renault 5’s New Budget Baby Brother

And that might not be the Twingo’s only advantage. While the ID. Every1 looked stylish, grown-up and modern, we can imagine plenty of buyers – particularly the younger ones Renault is targeting – falling for the cute frog-like face of the French model.

As with the 5 EV, the rebooted model takes design inspiration from a decades-old Renault, in this case the 1990s first-generation Twingo. So it’s bound to invoke some nostalgic feelings, among those who remember the original, but it won’t matter if you don’t – the UK never got the gen-one, for instance.

Judging by these fresh teaser shots and last year’s concept, which the production car should mostly replicate, the 2026 Twingo is a great-looking bit of design in its own right.

\\\\

Renault

Modern LED technology creates a friendly, cartoon-like face, with the same wide-eye signature being repeated at the back. The laid-back windshield once again stretches out towards the nose, compressing the size of the hood, but unlike the two-door original Twingo, this one will be strictly a four-door affair.

We’re still waiting to see the interior, but there’s every reason to believe it will feature a 10.1in infotainment touchscreen and a 7.0in digital instrument cluster, as shown in the concept.

Renault’s base 5 E-Tech makes 94 hp (95 PS / 70 kW) and gives a 194-mile (312 km) range from a 40 kWh battery, but don’t be surprised if the Twingo specs are cut down to help make its sub-€20,000 price a reality.

The group’s newly revised Dacia Spring, for example, is fitted with a 24.3 kWh LFP battery and offers 140 miles (225 km) of range. In any case, we’ll find out the full details on November 6.

We’ve included images below of the 2024 Twingo concept and spy shots of the production car prototype.

Volvo Prepares Its Most Powerful Model Ever Alongside New Entry Level Trims

  • Volvo will offer a new entry-level EX90 Single Motor in the United States.
  • The EX30 also gains a new rear-wheel drive variant that starts at $38,950.
  • They’re being joined by the new EX30 Cross Country and EX40 Black Edition.

Volvo recently introduced the 2026 EX90, which features a host of improvements including an all-new 800-volt electrical architecture. Now, the company has shared more details about the U.S.-spec version of its flagship electric SUV.

While the Swedish luxury brand didn’t go into many specifics, they confirmed plans to offer a new entry-level variant with a single electric motor.

Volvo went on to reveal the Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance will have upgraded powertrains that produce up to 670 hp (500 kW / 679 PS). According to the company, that output officially makes the EX90 Twin Motor Performance the most powerful production Volvo ever built.

More: Volvo Just Gave Its Three-Row EV A Huge Upgrade

Volvo didn’t mention numbers for the other variants, but the upgraded Polestar 3 offers a rear-wheel drive model with 329 hp (245 kW / 333 PS) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. The company also offers a dual-motor crossover with 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS) and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque.

Besides powertrain tweaks, Volvo mentioned a newly available electrochromic panoramic roof as well as ventilated Nappa leather seats. This is on top of the other upgrades, which include faster charging, new safety features, and additional computing power.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

EX30 Now Offers Rear-Wheel Drive

The EX90 isn’t the only crossover gaining a new entry-level variant as Volvo will offer an EX30 Single Motor. It starts at $38,950, which makes it $7,700 less expensive than the Twin Motor Performance.

That’s a considerable savings and the model features a rear-mounted motor producing 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS). It enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.1 seconds and travel up to 261 miles (420 km) on a single charge.

\\\\\\\\

Buyers will also find LED lighting units, rain-sensing wipers, and 19-inch wheels. They’re joined by a panoramic glass roof, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, ambient lighting, and a wireless smartphone charger. Rounding out the highlights are power front seats wrapped in eco-friendly upholstery.

On the safety front, there’s a host of driver assistance systems including Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Jam Assist. The crossover also has a Blind Spot Information System, Front Cross Traffic Alert, and Pedestrian and Cyclist Steering Avoidance.

A Rugged New EX30 Cross Country

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Also new for 2026 is the EX30 Cross Country. It starts at $48,150 and features a slightly more rugged design with additional ground clearance.

The model comes standard with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS). This enables the electric crossover to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and travel up to 227 miles (365 km) on a single charge.

On top of that, the Cross Country comes nicely equipped with a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. They’re joined by extra safety features including Park Pilot Assist and a 360° camera system.

EX40 Gains A Black Edition

\\\\\\

Last but not least, the EX40 gains a new Black Edition. It starts at $60,850 and features gloss black badging as well as black 20-inch wheels. Customers can also get an Onyx Black, Crystal White, Vapour Grey, or Denim Blue paint job.

Volvo didn’t say much else about the Black Edition, but it features Charcoal Connect Suede Textile and Microtech upholstery with contrasting white accents. Buyers will also find black flourishes as well as Dark Cutting Edge aluminum trim.

Volvo Prepares Its Most Powerful Model Ever Alongside New Entry Level Trims

Tesla Made The Model Y Standard Cheaper By Adding A Headliner To Hide The Glass Roof

  • Tesla introduces new “Standard” trim levels for the Model 3 and Model Y.
  • Model 3 Standard starts at $36,990, while Model Y Standard at $39,990.
  • Autosteer, AM/FM radio are gone, while shock absorbers are downgraded.

For all of Elon Musk’s grand promises over the past couple of years about game-changing budget Teslas, the much-touted affordable models have arrived with more of a polite cough than a thunderclap.

As we expected after several leaks these past few weeks, the newcomer is essentially a heavily cost-cut version of the Model Y. Still, glance upward and you might realize that, in Tesla’s peculiar logic, less sometimes really does mean more. We’ll circle back to that soon.

Even so, Tesla slipped in a small surprise with the introduction of a lower-priced Model 3, both now bundled under the newly introduced “Standard” trim name.

Alongside these launches, Tesla has reshuffled its trim lineup. Entry-level versions now carry the Standard name, while the mid-range Long Range models have been renamed Premium. The Performance flagships of both cars remain in place at the top of the hierarchy.

Lower Prices, Leaner Package

The headline figures set the tone: the Model 3 Standard starts at $36,990, which is $5,500 less than the previous base Long Range RWD. The Model Y Standard begins at $39,990, a $5,000 reduction compared with its RWD Premium equivalent. These figures exclude delivery fees, of course.

Both models a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup and a smaller 69 kWh battery pack with one fewer module than usual.

Model Y Standard

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Starting with the Model Y Standard, the range sits at an EPA-estimated 321 miles, a dip from the 357 miles offered by the RWD Premium. Acceleration is a lot slower too, hitting 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.8 seconds with a rollout, versus the Premium’s 5.4-second run. Top speed remains unchanged at 125 mph.

Specs tell only half the story, though. Tesla has stripped away so much that the car now feels like something you’d leave in the economy lot after a long weekend in Vegas, drop the keys, and never think about again.

More: Teen Flunks Driver Test Because She Didn’t Use Her Tesla’s Brakes

The middle section of the lightbar has vanished, which isn’t exactly a bad thing. Some might even call it an improvement, if only by accident. The front bumper has been simplified too, with revised air inlets and lighting elements now integrated into the headlamps. Around the back, the Juniper’s trademark taillights drop their connecting center strip.

Elsewhere, new smaller 18-inch wheels come as standard, with a 19-inch option available. The simplified wheel covers might not win any style awards, but the extra tire sidewall should improve ride comfort. Color choices are limited to three: Stealth Grey as standard, plus Pearl White for $1,000 and Diamond Black for $1,500.

No FM/AM Radio And Downgraded Suspension

\\\\\\\\\

The biggest changes are found inside. The vegan leather seats have been swapped for textile inserts, and the center console now features a large open compartment reminiscent of the Cybertruck’s utilitarian layout.

Front seat ventilation and rear seat heating have been dropped, and rear passengers lose their 8-inch fun screen in favor of manual vents. The driver also gets a manually adjustable steering wheel instead of an electric one.

Digging a little deeper into the spec sheet uncovers several more omissions. Tesla has downgraded the audio system, fitting this version with seven speakers instead of the 15-speaker setup and subwoofer found in higher trims. The FM / AM radio is gone too, along with the HEPA filter and ‘Bioweapon Defense Mode’.

Even the side mirrors are now manually folded and no longer feature auto-dimming, while Autosteer has been removed. The second-row seats, power-operated in the other trims, are now manually folded. Ambient LED lighting and the double-pane windows have also been dropped.

Interestingly, there seems to be a suspension change as well. The Standard version now uses passive shock absorbers rather than the frequency-dependent units fitted to other models.

Once again, it raises the question of what other features might have quietly slipped away.

Now You See It, Now You Don’t

Look upward and you’ll spot the most obvious alteration. The Model Y Standard trades its see-through roof for a regular headliner with sound-absorbing material above it, something many Model Y owners have long wanted, albeit in the form of a retractable shade, not a full-on cover-up.

But appearances can be deceiving. The glass roof hasn’t gone anywhere, it’s simply hiding beneath the new headliner. Apparently, Tesla figured it was more cost-effective to leave the glass in place rather than invest the time and money needed to engineer a proper metal roof, which makes sense up to a point.

What’s less clear, unless there’s something we’re missing such as a switch to a cheaper type of glass, is why they went through the extra effort and expense of covering it at all. If the goal wasn’t cost-saving, it would have made more sense to leave it visible, as with the Model 3 Standard.

The only other plausible explanation might be differentiation from the other versions, or perhaps an attempt to offset the loss of the double-pane windows and maintain cabin quietness.

Everything else you love and loathe about the Model Y experience remains as is, from the 15.4-inch touchscreen that serves as both the instrument cluster and infotainment system to the steering stalks.

Model 3 Standard

\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Moving to the Model 3 Standard, the EPA estimates a 321-mile range, down from the RWD Premium’s 363 miles. The sedan sprints to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds with rollout and matches the same 125 mph top speed.

Visually, the exterior updates are more restrained than on the Model Y. There wasn’t much to take away to begin with, so the main differences come from the smaller 18-inch wheels that should offer a slightly comfier ride, with 19-inch options once again available. The same trio of paint choices carries over: standard grey, optional white, and black.

Also: California Threatens To Shut Down Tesla’s Insurance After Thousands Of Complaints

Inside, the cabin sticks to the same cost-cutting playbook as the Model Y Standard, though with one notable exception: the glass roof remains. Textile seats take the place of vegan leather, the steering wheel adjusts manually, the rear touchscreen has been deleted, and the audio system has been simplified.

All the other omissions noted on the Model Y Standard, including the change in shock absorbers, carry over here too.

However, for 2026, Tesla has reinstated the traditional turn signal stalks, while it appears that there’s a front camera too, so that’s something.

There’s More To Audi’s $33K Chinese EV Than Cheap Labor

  • The all-electric Audi E5 Sportback in China starts at just under $34,000.
  • Low battery and energy costs in China help Audi keep prices affordable.
  • An equivalent Audi EV in Europe would likely cost at least twice as much.

While Audi has steadily built up its electric range, none of its current EVs have really made a breakthrough in Western markets, aside from the occasional seasonal bright spot. In China, though, the brand may have finally found its moment. The new AUDI E5 Sportback pulled in over 10,000 pre-orders within just half an hour after its debut.

A key reason for its popularity? The kind of price tag you’d expect of a Toyota, not a premium German EV.

Bargain With Big Numbers

In China, the AUDI E5 starts at just 235,900 yuan, which is the equivalent of $33,100 or €28,211 at current exchange rates. That’s a heck of a deal for a luxury car that includes a 76 kWh battery pack, a 295 hp rear motor, and has a claimed range of 384 miles (618 km) under local testing standards.

The upper trims go much further, offering up to 776 hp, while buyers also get a wraparound digital cockpit, and software tailored specifically to Chinese buyers. The interior mixes Alcantara with leather, while the tech list is stacked with features usually reserved for higher-end models.

To put that in perspective, Audi’s least expensive crossover in Germany is the Q2, a sub-compact that begins at €29,000 ($34,000 or 242,500 yuan) for the entry-level 116 hp 3-cylinder TFSI, a price that includes Germany’s value-added tax, or standard sales tax.

More: Audi Launches New AUDI Brand Without Four-Ring Logo In China

Unlike Audi models sold elsewhere, the E5 is exclusive to China and even carries a new badge. Instead of the traditional four rings, the grille simply reads “AUDI,” a deliberate break from tradition designed to appeal to younger, tech-oriented buyers.

Speaking to Germany’s N-TV, industry expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer described the move as “clever positioning” and a “liberating step,” arguing that the traditional rings carried too much baggage from the past.

Why It Costs So Little

There’s More To Audi’s $33K Chinese EV Than Cheap Labor

While it might be tempting to chalk up the low sticker price to cheaper wages in China, labor costs account for only around ten percent of total vehicle costs, according to the CAR Institute, N-TV reports.

A slew of other important factors come into play that help AUDI keep the E5 so affordable by Western standards. Battery costs in China are lower, energy is much cheaper, and local production operates with far greater efficiency. On top of that, Germany levies a 19 percent sales tax (VAT), while China applies just 10 percent for regular cars and in some cases zero percent for EVs, depending on price and incentives.

Perhaps most telling, though, is that manufacturers there are willing to operate with margins far slimmer than what German brands typically tolerate. That’s something we rarely, if ever, see in the West. Were a vehicle like the E5 to be produced and sold in Europe, it’d likely cost twice as much, if not more.

Storm Clouds At Home

Back in Germany, the contrast could not be starker. The industry’s struggles are well known, with Audi planning to cut around 7,500 jobs by 2029, Mercedes deep in restructuring, and Porsche rolling back its EV plans. BMW has fared a little better, yet it too has shed thousands of temporary positions.

According to a recent study by EY, Germany’s automotive industry lost more than 50,000 jobs last year, erasing roughly seven percent of its workforce. Compared with pre-COVID levels, the sector employs 112,000 fewer people today. No other domestic industry has suffered losses on this scale.

Future Written In Asia

\\\\\\\\

Against this backdrop, Dudenhöffer argued that Audi’s decision to launch a separate brand in China was both brave and instructive. “Competitors BMW and Mercedes are now under pressure,” he said. “If the price difference becomes too large, customers will switch to Audi.”

He also issued a more general warning. “If the price collapse from China reaches Europe and Chinese models take over here, the Germans need a response,” he said.

“If we don’t learn to build cars that interest customers – with the right price and the right costs – Germany has a problem. We can watch China and say: We won’t get involved in this shameless price war. Or we can say: We need a China strategy.”

Dudenhöffer added that the future of the industry will not be decided in Europe but in Asia. “The vehicles must be built for the customers, not for the employees,” he cautioned. “Without a China strategy, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes are finished globally. And without a China strategy, Germany will also lose its status as an automotive nation.”

Ford’s Electrified Bronco Arrives In China With A Pop Up Roof Surprise

  • Ford has begun accepting orders for the Bronco Basecamp in China.
  • Early customers get a free pop-up glass roof, made for camping.
  • The model offers fully electric and range-extended powertrains.

Following its debut at the Chengdu Auto Show, Ford has opened orders for the new Bronco Smart Horse / Basecamp, the third model in its Bronco family developed exclusively for China. While that’s not too interesting, the company is sweetening the deal by giving early customers a free ‘one-click roof-lift camping package.’

More: Ford Shows Off Wild Bronco With No Roof, No Doors, And Nothing To Lose

Despite sounding like a pop-up tent, it’s simply a panoramic glass roof that tilts 14.2 inches (360 mm) skyward to provide more headroom above the second-row. This promises to be more comfortable than it sounds as the front seats fold down and have headrests that lower at the push of a button.

Customers can also fold the second-row seats down and apparently cover both rows with a Bronco-branded inflatable mattress.

Tailgate Tricks

The camping theme continues at the rear, where the Basecamp features what Ford calls a “mountain kitchen” on the tailgate. It includes a fold-down table as well as a magnetic strip for holding knives and silverware. There’s also a drinks holder as well as an integrated bottle opener.

\\\\\\\\

While this sounds a little odd, Ford refers to the Basecamp as their “first all-terrain camping SUV.” The company also noted customers can get ¥12,000 ($1,685) worth of free equipment by placing a ¥1,000 ($140) deposit on the vehicle.

Power in Two Flavors

Ford hasn’t said much about the Bronco Basecamp, but the fully electric variant has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of 445 hp (332 kW / 451 PS). It’s powered by a 105.4 kWh battery pack, which delivers 404 miles (650 km) of range.

Customers can also opt for an extended-range variant, which has a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, two electric motors, and a 43.7kWh battery pack. This version has 416 hp (310 kW / 421 PS) and an electric-only range of 137 miles (220 km). However, the ICE engine extends the overall range to 758 miles (1,220 km) in the CLTC cycle.

Size Matters

The new SUV rides on a 116.1-inch (2,950 mm) wheelbase, the same as the full-size four-door Bronco in the US and far longer than the 105.1 inches (2,670 mm) of the Bronco Sport. Overall length also stretches to 197.8 inches (5,025 mm), making it larger than both the Bronco at 189.4 inches (4,810 mm) and the Bronco Sport at 173.4 inches (4,400 mm).

For now, Ford has made it clear that the electrified Bronco Basecamp is destined solely for China, with no plans to bring the model to North America.

The 2026 Polestar 3 Gets Serious Upgrades, Current Owners Get One Free

  • The 2026 Polestar 3 has been unveiled with a number of major updates.
  • EV sports new batteries, more power, and an 800V electrical architecture.
  • Range-topping Performance trim delivers 671 hp, up 154 hp from before.

Volvo introduced the upgraded EX90 last month, so it comes as little surprise that Polestar has taken the wraps off the updated 3. Like its counterpart, the changes are extensive and CEO Michael Lohscheller described it as being “like an entirely new car.”

That’s a bit of a stretch, but the crossover trades its 400V electrical architecture for an all-new 800V setup. This allows for a 350 kW DC fast charging capability, which significantly lowers the time it takes the battery to go from a 10% to 80% charge. Polestar says this can now be accomplished in 22 minutes, which is 25% faster than its predecessor.

New Batteries And Upgraded Electric Motor

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Besides an improved charging experience, the model has been equipped with new 92 and 106 kWh battery packs. Polestar also noted the crossover is up to 6% more efficient in the WLTP cycle.

The powertrain upgrades don’t end there as the Polestar 3 has been equipped with a new rear-mounted electric motor that was developed in-house. It produces 329 hp (245 kW / 333 PS) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque, which is an increase of 34 hp (25 kW / 34 PS) but a decline of 7 lb-ft (9 Nm).

The dual-motor variant now develops 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS) and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque, which compares to the previous rating of 483 hp (360 kW / 489 PS) and 620 lb-ft (840 PS). This lowers the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time from 4.8 to 4.5 seconds.

Lastly, the 3 Performance has a combined output of 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and 642 lb-ft (870 Nm) of torque. This is a huge increase of 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS), but the torque rating drops 29 lb-ft (39 Nm). Thanks to the extra oomph, the crossover hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).

Furthermore, the front-mounted motor now features an automatic disconnect function. This helps to improve efficiency and range, when extra traction isn’t needed.

Driving dynamics have also been improved thanks to updated anti-roll bars and new steering software. Polestar said the changes result in a “more direct and engaging driving experience across all model variants.”

A New Processor For Customers Old And New

\\\\\\\\

On the tech front, buyers will find a new NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor. It replaces the previous Xavier unit and the company said the swap increases processing power from 30 to 254 trillion operations per second. That’s a huge increase and it allows for “faster, more intelligent management of active safety systems, battery performance, and sensor data.”

As with the EX90, current owners won’t miss out on the hardware upgrade as it’s being offered as a “complimentary retrofit.” Starting early next year, existing owners will be able to visit their nearest service center and have the processor replaced for free.

New Names And Revamped Equipment

\\\\\\\\\

Polestar announced a handful of other minor updates including a simplified naming structure that consists of Rear Motor, Dual Motor, and Performance variants. That’s a small, but welcome change as “Long range Dual motor with Performance pack” didn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

Buyers will also find updated equipment, including seat belts that reflect the trim level. Rear Motor variants have black belts, while Dual Motor models have black belts with a Swedish gold stripe. The range-topping Performance has full Swedish gold belts, making for an unusual distinguisher.

Polestar also mentioned a new Climate pack with heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel as well as a Prime pack that “bundles together Pilot, Plus, and Climate packs in combination with rear privacy glass.” Additionally, active road noise cancellation and a Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system can now be had as standalone options.

More: New Polestar 5 Doesn’t Need A Rear Window To Put Porsche On Notice

Exterior changes are minor, but Storm replaces Thunder on the color palette. Customers will also find larger “Polestar 3” badging on the doors, which is now accompanied by a trim identifier.

Interior changes are more modest, but the crossover now comes standard with bio-attributed MicroTech upholstery in Charcoal. It’s paired with repurposed aluminum trim, which used to be optional.

The 2026 Polestar 3 will initially be launched in the United Kingdom, where it sold out last year. It will then spread to other markets, although some details may vary slightly.

This Luxury SUV Survived 400 Rounds Of Laser-Guided Gunfire

  • INKAS partnered with VinFast to create an armored, gold-trimmed EV.
  • The Lạc Hồng 900 LX has a custom grille, gold trim, and lavish interior.
  • Certified to VPAM VR7, the SUV withstands rifle fire and grenade blasts.

Although VinFast cars are rarely spotted on American roads due to the brand’s lukewarm local launch, they are very popular in Vietnam, where the company is based. Its newest creation, the Lạc Hồng 900 LX that was developed in collaboration with armoring specialists Inkas, has just been introduced to the domestic market.

It’s a far cry from some of VinFast’s more affordable models and could prove perfect for high-rolling executives and government officials who want luxury wrapped in an extra layer or two of protection.

More Than Bulletproof

The 900 LX shares a lot in common with the pre-existing VinFast VF 9 and will be available in both non-armored and armored guises. The Inkas-built version is fully homologated for Vietnamese roads and carries certification to withstand rifle fire, including armor-piercing rounds.

Read: Jaguar Land Rover Fires Whistleblower Over Reddit AMA On Vinfast Safety Flaws

Just in case that wasn’t enough to convince shoppers of the 900 LX’s security, Inkas says it can also withstand the simultaneous detonation of two DM51 hand grenades, and during testing, it dealt with 400 laser-guided rounds. Importantly, the armored version doesn’t really look any different than the standard model.

The Powertrains

It’s understood that there are some slight powertrain differences between the standard and the armored versions of the Lạc Hồng 900 LX. Local media reports that while both use a 123 kWh battery pack sourced from CATL, the standard model uses two electric motors combining to produce 402 hp and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm) of torque, allowing it to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.8 seconds.

This Luxury SUV Survived 400 Rounds Of Laser-Guided Gunfire

By comparison, the armored version’s motors have been upgraded to deliver 455 hp and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm). However, despite the extra grunt, the Inkas model needs 9.8 seconds to reach 62 mph due to all the weight of the armoring.

Visually, the 900 LX stands out from the shorter-wheelbase VF 9 that it is based on. For example, it includes a custom chrome-finished grille and a slew of gold accents, including the door handles and the prominent hood ornament. These gold elements continue into the cabin, where you’ll also find plenty of soft-touch leather and wooden accents.

Mazda’s Global $16,800 Chinese SUV Makes America’s Cheapest Cars Look Overpriced

  • Mazda EZ-60 starts at $16,800 in China, undercutting many U.S. economy cars.
  • Buyers can choose range-extended hybrid or full EV with 255 hp rear motor.
  • The all-electric Max trim offers 373 miles of CLTC range from 77.9 kWh pack.

Anyone shopping for an affordable new car in the United States might do a double take at Mazda’s latest announcement in China. The EZ-60, a midsize SUV offered with both pure electric and range-extended hybrid power, is priced at a level that makes it look like a bargain compared to even an entry-level Nissan Versa.

Announced earlier this year, the EZ-60 has been brought to life through Mazda’s joint venture partnership with Changan and will be sold overseas, where it will wear the CX-6e badge. In China, the Japanese automaker has confirmed it will have a starting price of just 119,900 yuan, or the equivalent of just $16,800, for the Base range-extender model.

Read: Mazda’s New Pure Electric SUV Has Spilled Its Secrets

Buyers wanting more can opt for the range-extended model in Pro and Max guise, starting at 129,900 yuan ($18,200) and 138,900 yuan ($19,500) respectively. Power comes from a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder that works solely as a generator to feed the 31.7 kWh battery, which in turn powers a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 255 hp.

The all-electric lineup mirrors the same three trims. Pricing starts at 139,900 yuan ($19,600) for the Base EV, stepping up to 149,900 yuan ($21,000) for the Pro and topping out at 160,900 yuan ($22,600) for the Max.

\\\\\\\\

EV Tech

Like the hybrid-assisted version, the pure EV uses a 255 hp motor driving the rear axle. Instead of a gasoline generator, it carries a 77.94 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack that, according to Mazda, can deliver up to 600 km (373 miles) of range under the CLTC cycle.

While the exterior of the EZ-60 share some design cues with other Mazda models, the interior is unlike any of the brand’s cars sold in the West and sports a huge 26.5-inch 5K display doubling as the central infotainment screen, as well as a display for the passenger. There’s also a 100-inch augmented reality head-up display and cameras instead of traditional wing mirrors.

Mazda has confirmed the EZ-60 will be exported to select global markets, including Europe where it will carry the CX-6e nameplate. Buyers in the United States, however, will have to admire it from afar, as there are no plans to offer it stateside. The SUV is Mazda’s second EV to be offered in China following the EZ-6 mid-size sedan launched late last year.

Austin’s 1920s Throwback Only Needs 20HP To Embarrass An MX-5 To 60

  • Austin Arrow revives 1922 Seven design with retro styling cues and details.
  • The electric roadster produces 20 hp and has a range of up to 100 miles.
  • Deliveries have started in the UK with pricing from £31,000 ($41,400).

The ghosts of British motoring past continue to resurface, this time in the form of a pint-sized retro EV from the revived Austin Motor Company. At first glance the Arrow could pass for a vintage roadster, yet it is officially classed as an L7e heavy quadricycle, putting it in the same category as the Citroen Ami and Fiat Topolino urban EVs.

More: The Patak Rodster Is A New Microcar That Looks Like A Sportscar From The ’30s

A prototype was shown back in 2023, but this is our first proper look at the finished production car that just went on sale. Its styling leans heavily on the Austin Seven that debuted in 1922 and went on to be raced by legends such as Bruce McLaren and Colin Chapman.

Classic Cues With A Modern Twist

Key design flourishes include exposed wheels, circular headlamps, a traditional grille, leather bonnet straps, and a tub-shaped body reminiscent of the Morgan Super 3. At just 3.7 metres (145.7 inches) long, the Arrow is shorter than most subcompact hatchbacks, which should make it light on its feet in tight city streets.

The interior is also full-on retro with a wooden steering wheel, leather seats, and analogue dials in the middle of the dashboard. The model is available in both right-hand- and left-hand-drive configurations.

Buyers have plenty of personalization options. The color palette includes eleven shades that can be combined with Nickel or Shadow accents. The company also offers three different finishes for the wheels and seven colors for the leather upholstery.

\\\\\\

Austin Motor Company

Small But Spirited

Underneath the nostalgic skin sits a single electric motor delivering 20 hp (15 kW). While that figure sounds comically low, the Arrow weighs only 605 kg (1,334 lbs), allowing it to reach its advertised 100 km/h (62 mph) top speed in brisk 7.8 seconds. In fact, that’s half a second faster than Europe’s base Mazda MX-5 with the 130hp 1.5-liter engine.

Power comes from a 20 kWh battery pack, good for up to 100 miles (160 km) between charges, with a full recharge taking around three hours.

More: Aznom Turns Original Smart ForTwo Into An $25K EV For 14-Year-Olds

The man behind the project is Nigel Gordon-Stewart, whose CV includes stints at Lamborghini, McLaren, Lotus, and MG. Speaking on Instagram, he said the Arrow “really does drive rather well… just lots of fun with a nostalgic technology feel… You certainly stand out from the crowd, and it makes EV driving a wonderful and joyous experience.”

How Much Does it Cost?

Deliveries have already started in the UK, with exports to the US and the Middle East on the way. Prices begin at £31,000 ($41,400), positioning the Arrow above the Mazda MX-5, which is listed at £28,585 ($38,200) in Britain. This makes it clear the Arrow is not aimed at the budget end of the market but at buyers looking for a boutique EV that blends charm, individuality, with a nod to Britain’s motoring heritage.

This Electric Off-Roader Is Like A Jeep, Only From The Future

  • Quad-motor setup delivers 404 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque for trail fun.
  • Two-door design hides a four-seat cabin finished in premium leather trim.
  • Pricing begins at $49,950, with a limited electric range of 140 miles.

Vanderhall is best known for building a sporty three-wheeler, but it has just launched an all-new model and it’s unlike anything else we’ve seen from the brand. In fact, it doesn’t look like anything else on the market either. Named the Brawley GTS, this all-electric off-roader has been in development for several years, and customer deliveries have just begun in the United States.

Read: Vanderhall Carmel Autocycle Starts At $34,950, Does 0-60 In 4.5 Seconds

The Brawley was first previewed in 2021 and has since evolved into a production-ready trail toy that, unfortunately, cannot be driven on the road. It has some obvious Jeep Wrangler-inspired elements, most notably the front grille and the circular headlights. However, for the most part, it looks unique and is a compact two-door model that should make it perfect for tight trails and desert runs.

Power From Every Corner

Underneath, Vanderhall has equipped the Brawley GTS with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery feeding four electric motors, one at each wheel. Combined output stands at 404 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, figures that promise lively performance on loose surfaces. An earlier plan to offer a larger 60 kWh pack has quietly disappeared, leaving buyers with just the standard setup.

This Electric Off-Roader Is Like A Jeep, Only From The Future

Given the small size of the available battery pack, as well as the power on offer, it’s hardly a surprise that the Brawley’s driving range isn’t particularly impressive. In fact, Vanderhall says it can travel just 140 miles (225 km) on a charge, so owners should be wary about venturing too far off the beaten path without access to a charger.

Despite its compact size, the off-roader offers seating for four and looks to be well-appointed, with plenty of leather found throughout the cabin. One of the coolest features is the large glass windows incorporated into the door panels.

The Vanderhall was initially announced with a $34,950 starting price, but that was almost four years ago. Shoppers who now want to pick up the keys to one will need to part ways with at least $49,950, yet another reminder that EV pricing rarely stands still for long, and almost never in the buyer’s favor.

Telo Just Got $20 Million To Build A Tiny EV Truck With Big Ambitions

  • Telo secures $20M to launch MT1 electric pickup by 2026 with big ambitions.
  • Small truck promises to offer 350-mile range, 5seats, and a 5-foot-long bed.
  • Priced from $41K, it targets city buyers frustrated by oversized electric trucks.

A little over two years ago we first heard of the Telo, a pickup truck with qualities and stats that seemingly make no sense. It has four doors, five seats, is all-electric, makes up to 500 horsepower, can go 350 miles between charges, and fits a full 4×8 sheet of plywood in the bed, all while taking up the footprint of a Mini Cooper. This week, it’s reached a new funding goal of $20 million and is one step closer to reality.

Read: $30K Ford Electric Truck Coming In 2027 Is Seriously Bad News For Slate

Announced by Drew from Telo on YouTube, the $20 million concludes what the company calls Series A funding. That cash is going to go into production tooling. The next step after the tooling is set up is to build production-intent prototypes. Telo is also going to expand the team and partner with an existing contract manufacturer.

From Prototype To Reality

Getting the mini truck with a big personality to market will then require federalization, crash testing, and certifications. It’s hoping that state-of-the-art manufacturing, off-the-shelf parts usage, and collaborating with existing manufacturers will not only speed up development but help that $20 million go further than it would otherwise.

One More Thing

We’ve all watched the automotive industry promise a lot and deliver very little. Think of things like the Cybertruck, Faraday Future, Level 3 Driving from Stellantis, and more. Along those same lines, brands have promised specific prices and then ended up having to jack those prices up before launch. Telo might just be the outlier there.

Originally, it was aiming for a starting price of $49,995. Now, it says it’s targeting a starting price of $41,520. That may or may not sound more attainable than Slate’s sub-$20,000 claim for its bare-bone electric truck, which was later adjusted to $27,500 after the federal EV tax credit disappeared.

Either way, that’s only worth believing when and if it actually happens, but it’s noteworthy. Arguably, that price is still too high to get people excited since Federal EV incentives are dead in just a few days.

Nevertheless, should the Telo make it to market, it might just be cheap enough to be an attractive option in a sea of trucks that are too big, too fuel-thirsty, and far more expensive. Of course, if Ford actually builds a $30,000 EV truck, the Telo might find itself without a market.

Your Next Doctor’s Appointment Could Be In The Back Of This EV

  • Grounded’s new C1 offers electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain choices.
  • It can serve as a mobile command center, healthcare unit, or disaster hub.
  • The C1 is customizable with multiple wheelbases and three interior upfits.

Detroit’s Grounded burst onto the scene in 2023 with an electric RV based on the BrightDrop Zevo 600. Now, the company is expanding their lineup by introducing the C1 at Climate Week NYC.

More: Grounded G2 Debuts As BrightDrop-Based Electric RV With 250+ Mile Range

Designed for government and healthcare fleets, the C1 is based on Harbinger’s commercial-grade electric truck platform and available in three different configurations. In order to appeal to police departments, there’s a mobile command center that provides “secure communications, reliable power, and the mobility to coordinate responses during severe weather, large events, or multi-agency emergencies.”

Inside the Command Hub

The company didn’t offer much information, but images show the vehicle has a large open area with desks and an assortment of displays. We can also see a bathroom, a flexible seating area, and two enclosed spaces.

The C1 can also be transformed into a mobile clinic to enable “municipalities and nonprofits to deliver mammograms, vaccinations, screenings, and other preventative services.” In this configuration, we can see a reception area and a bathroom. There’s also an examination area with a desk and medical equipment.

\\\

The third and final configuration is aimed at disaster response and the company said it “provides resilience and adaptability with extended range, off-grid power, and modular interiors that can support shelter coordination, supply distribution, and emergency relief efforts.”

Levels of Customization

While specifics are few and far between, the C1 will be highly customizable as the company mentioned multiple wheelbases as well as three levels of upfit. The most basic is known as Core, which features a streamlined and cost-effective interior. The Advanced and Pro setups add more bells and whistles, including advanced communications equipment and increased range.

Speaking of which, the C1 will be offered with electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The former can be augmented by a gas-powered range extender as well as a roof-mounted solar panel and a dedicated ‘house battery.’

Your Next Doctor’s Appointment Could Be In The Back Of This EV

The company didn’t mention powertrain details, but Harbinger uses an electric motor that develops 440 hp (330 kW) and 1,140 lb-ft (1,550 Nm) of torque. They also offer a scalable battery pack, which comes in 35 kWh sections that can be increased to meet the task at hand.

As for the plug-in hybrid variant, it presumably echoes the Hybrid RV that was created by THOR Industries and Harbinger. It has an overall range of 500 miles (805 km) as well as an electric-only range of 150 miles (241 km).

Orders Already Open

There are more questions than answers at this point, but Grounded is currently accepting orders. Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026 and pricing will “vary depending on configuration and upfit.”

Kia’s EV4 Hatch Is Here To Make Tesla And VW Sweat

  • Kia has revealed more details about its new electric EV4 hatch and sedan.
  • Launch models get a single 201 hp motor and 58.3 or 81.4 kWh batteries.
  • EV4 arrives in Europe before the end of 2025, comes to the US in early 2026.

In only a handful of years, Kia has gone from a brand struggling to find its design identity and having no EVs in its lineup, to one with some of the most distinctive-looking models around and a four-strong EV range with more on the way. Latest to land is the Golf-sized EV4, and Kia’s latest photo drop shows exactly why VW, Tesla, and every other major automaker should be worried.

More: Kia’s Most Important EV Is Finally Getting The Sporty Edge It Needs

Kia gave us a cursory look at the Euro-market EV4 in February of this year, and then added a more comprehensive breakdown of the US-built, US-market sedan in April. But that doesn’t arrive in America until early in 2026, so the focus now swings back to the European EV4, which goes on sale this autumn in both Slovakian-built hatchback and Korean-built Fastback sedan forms.

One Motor For Now

Both versions are limited to just one powertrain option. Dual-motor versions are on the way, but for now, buyers are restricted to a single 201 hp (204 PS / 150 kW) motor that powers the front wheels and gets the EV4 to 62 mph (100 kmh) in 7.4 seconds. That time is for a car with the entry-level 58.3 kWh battery – upgrade to the heavier 81.4 kWh pack that’s the only one available on UK Fastbacks and the sprint requires 7.7 seconds.

The big battery payoff is, of course, a longer range. The hatch with the small battery is good for just 255 miles (410 km), and the sedan 267 miles (430 km), while the 81.4 kWh versions of the hatch and sedan are rated at 380 miles (612 km) and 391 miles (630 km). Strangely, the sedan’s more slippery shape makes it more efficient than the hatch with the small battery, but it’s worse with the larger one; that’s what Kia’s figures say.

EV4 hatch
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Charging Trade-Off

Like the closely related EV3 SUV, neither EV4 gets the high-tech 800-volt electrics fitted to the EV6 and EV9. They make do with 400-volt hardware instead, and so charge much more slowly as a result. A 10-80 percent fill of the bigger battery takes around 31 minutes, getting on for double the time an EV6 driver might expect to spend waiting to charge up.

Both models ride on the same 2,820 mm (111 inches) wheelbase, but the 300 mm (11.8 inches) longer sedan serves up a more useful 490 litres (17.3 cu-ft) of luggage space, whereas the hatch can only swallow 435 liters (15.4 cu-ft). Unfortunately, the sedan, like its Tesla Model 3 rival, has an old-fashioned and less practical trunk lid, rather than a liftback.

Kia EV4 GT-Line hatch
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Subtle Differences Inside And Out

As far as passengers are concerned, the two EV4s will feel almost identical. Inside each is the same combined digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen. GT Line models are marked out by sports seats and three- rather than two-spoke steering wheels, but from the outside, there’s surprisingly little to set them apart, the base hatch in Blue in these pictures, looking barely less dynamic to our eyes than the gray GT Line, despite its smaller wheels and supposedly less aggressive bumpers.

The EV4 Fastback’s unusual design might prevent some buyers from defecting from their Tesla Model 3s, but Europe is a continent of hatchback lovers, and Tesla has no answer for the EV4 hatch that’s sure to cause even VW and its ID.3 a headache. We’ll find out exactly how much of a headache when prices are revealed in the coming weeks and when we get a chance to get behind the wheel.

Chery Couldn’t Afford A Defender So It Made Its Own For $16K

  • The new Fulwin X3L is a long-wheelbase version of the recently-launched X3.
  • Power is provided by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and two electric motors.
  • The boxy X3L can sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in an impressive 4.7 seconds.

The funky off-roader you’re looking at is the Fulwin X3L and is built by Chery in China. Despite what you may be thinking, it isn’t a battery-electric vehicle but rather is equipped with a range-extender powertrain, arguably more suitable for a vehicle like this, designed to tackle tough terrain.

Read: Chery’s Latest SUV Wants To Be A Porsche Until You See The Rear

If the design of the Fulwin X3L rings some bells to those familiar with Chinese models (well, okay, with Land Rover Defenders too), that’s because it is essentially a rebadged version of the iCar 03T introduced by Chery last year. We’re not sure why the company felt it necessary to offer two versions of essentially the same vehicle under different brands, but it’s 2025, and we’re living in interesting times indeed.

Stance and Size

The X3L is 4,545 mm (179 inches) long, 1,950 mm (76.7 inches) wide, and stands 1,815 mm (71.4 inches) tall, with a 2,783 mm (109.5-inch) wheelbase. The styling clearly borrows cues from classics like the Land Rover Defender and to a lesser extent, the Mercedes G-Class, resulting in a square, upright form that should turn heads on Chinese streets. Pricing is aggressive, starting at 119,900 yuan (around $16,800) and topping out at 149,900 yuan (roughly $21,000).

Powering the X3L is Chery’s Kunpeng Golden range-extender. It combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 154 hp, working on conjunction with either a single rear-mounted electric motor with 248 hp, or a pair of electric motors in the all-wheel drive version, combining to deliver 422 hp and 373 lb-ft (505 Nm). Chery says the X3L needs just 4.7 seconds to hit 100 km/h (62 mph), which is pretty rapid for a vehicle like this.

\\\\

The all-electric range will reportedly vary between 135 km (84 miles) and 215 km (133 miles) depending on the version. When combined with the engine and fuel tank, the X3L should be able to travel up to 1,200 km (746 miles) without stopping.

Off-Road Toys

A slew of different driving modes and off-road-focused settings come standard. These include a tank turn function, off-road cruise control, and low-speed crawling options. Other key features include side steps, a side-opening tailgate, and the option of several different off-road modification kits.

The cabin looks quite nice, even though it won’t win any awards for creativity. Among the key features are a 15.6-inch infotainment display, a small digital gauge cluster, rectangular air vents, and chunky grab handles.

Audi’s Chinese Brand Scored 10,000 Pre-Orders In Just 30 Minutes

  • The China-only Audi E5 Sportback starts at 235,900 yuan or around $33,000.
  • Range spans 384 to 402 miles depending on trim and battery configuration.
  • Power output ranges from 295 hp to 776 hp with RWD or AWD drivetrains.

Not too long ago, Audi made the decision to launch a stand-alone EV brand in China under the name AUDI, written in all caps. While it seemed like a questionable move at the time, it appears to be paying off, judging by the demand for its first model, the new E5 Sportback.

According to the company, when pre-orders for the E5 opened on August 18, more than 10,000 reservations rolled in within half an hour. Those kinds of numbers are common for Chinese startups, but not for long-established manufacturers. Just as important as the tally itself is the message it sends: there’s no better way to create FOMO than to show how many people have already locked in an order for this EV, complete with some German heritage.

Of course, the figures themselves don’t carry much weight, since they’re not binding or backed by non-refundable deposits. It’s possible that a fair share of those who placed early reservations for the E5 could cancel before the car actually reaches their driveway.

With that being said, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as to why the E5 has proven to be popular. As we confirmed last month, the entry-level Pioneer version starts at just 235,900 yuan or around $33,100. For the money, shoppers get a 76 kWh battery pack, a 295 hp rear motor, and a claimed range of 384 miles (618 km).

\\\\\\\

Other models include the 402 hp, rear-wheel drive Pioneer Plus with a 100 kWh battery and starting at 269,900 yuan ($38,000) and the Pioneer Plus with an 83 kWh pack and dual motors delivering 518 hp, priced from the same 269,900 yuan ($38,000). The range is then topped out by the Flagship Quattro with a 100 kWh battery, 402 miles (647 km) of range, and dual motors with 776 hp. It starts at just 319,900 yuan ($45,000).

The cabin of the AUDI E5 Sportback is unlike any Audi model sold in the West, and instead far more similar to other EVs in China. It includes a 59-inch screen stretching across the entire dashboard, digital wing mirrors, soft-touch leather and Alcantara, and wireless phone chargers.

New Eclipse Cross EV Proves Mitsubishi Gave Up A Long Time Ago

  • Mitsubishi has unveiled a new generation of the Eclipse Cross designed for Europe.
  • The new model is based on the Renault Scenic E-Tech and offered only as an EV.
  • Initially it is available with a 215 hp electric motor and 600 km (373 miles) of range.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is dead. Long live the new Eclipse Cross EV. This second generation SUV is a complete departure from its predecessor, pairing the electric foundations of the the Renault Scenic E-Tech with Mitsubishi-specific design elements. Built by Renault in France, the new model will be sold exclusively in Europe.

The Eclipse Cross EV joins Mitsubishi’s growing European lineup of Renault-based models. It follows the Colt (Clio), ASX (Captur), and Grandis (Symbioz) as another example of badge-sharing strategy. Positioned in the compact SUV segment beneath the Outlander PHEV, it also becomes Mitsubishi’s second all-electric model in Europe, after the discontinued i-MiEV city car.

Recasting Renault’s Scenic

The clearest way to spot the Japanese twist on the Scenic is up front. Mitsubishi has reworked the face with distinctive split LED headlights, a redesigned but fully covered grille that looks similar to the Outlander, and reshaped bumper intakes. At the rear, updated LED taillight graphics and a heavier dose of glossy black trim set it apart from the Renault, alongside the fresh branding.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

The profile looks familiar but there is a new chrome trim on the D-pillars and more futuristic wheels measuring 19 or 20 inches in diameter. Overall, the new model dropps the coupe-SUV proportions of the first Eclipse Cross, which launched in 2017 and gained a facelift in 2020. In terms of footprint, it is incrementally smaller than its ICE-powered predecessor, measuring 4,470 mm (176 inches) long, although its wheelbase is significantly larger stretching to 2,785 mm (109.6 inches).

Inside, the cabin adopts Renault’s digital setup with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a portrait-style 12-inch infotainment screen running Google’s built-in services. For the sake of differentiation, Mitsubishi has added new options for the interior trim and upholstery. Other cool features include the electrochromic glass roof, the LED ambient lighting, and the Harman & Kardon Premium audio system.

A full suite of driver assistance tech is available, offering semi-autonomous driving on the highway. Finally, practicality is served by two rows of seating and a cargo area that ranges between 478-1,670 lt (16.9-59 cubic feet) depending on the position of the rear bench.

Shared Underpinnings

The Eclipse Cross EV rides on the CMF-EV platform (Ampr Medium) which is already used in the Renault Megane/Scenic E-Tech and the Nissan Leaf/Ariya.

Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS), with a 87 kWh battery pack offering a range of approximately 600 km (373 miles). The battery has a water-cooled thermal management system and is compatible with charging speeds of up to 150 kWh.

Mitsubishi has also confirmed that a mid-range version will follow in 2026. This one will most likely use mirror the specs of the entry-level Scenic E-Tech with 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) and a 60 kWh battery.

Designed, Manufactured And Sold In Europe

The new EV will be manufactured at the Douai factory in France as part of the Renault-Mitsubishi-Nissan Alliance, starting in Q4 2025. The same facilities are the home of production for the Renault Megane E-Tech, Scenic E-Tech, R5 E-Tech, Alpine A290, and Nissan Micra EV.

While the new Eclipse Cross is not expected to cross the Atlantic, Mitsubishi has confirmed it will launch another electric crossover for North America in the summer of 2026. This one will be slightly smaller and share its underpinnings with the new Nissan Leaf.
