Faraday FX 6 Prototype Shows The Family Resemblance In Latest Teasers

  • Faraday Future has teased the FX 6, ahead of a possible unveiling in March.
  • The model is a sleek crossover that appears to mimic the $309,000 FF91.
  • Pricing is slated to begin between $30,000 and $50,000, but Faraday has a spotty track record.

Following the release of a low resolution teaser in January, Faraday Future has provided a better look at their upcoming FX 6. Set to be offered by their new Faraday X brand, the model follows in the footsteps of the FF91 but promises to cost a fraction of the price.

The company has been tight-lipped about specifics, but the camouflaged prototypes have a rounded front fascia and a rakish windscreen that flows into a sloping roof. Designers also gave the model streamlined bodywork and an upward sweeping beltline, which results in a relatively compact greenhouse.

The rear end is heavily disguised, but the FX 6 features an angular rear window and what appears to be a roof-mounted spoiler. A mid-mounted spoiler can be seen further below and we can also make out a concave lower liftgate. While it’s hard to know what the final result will look like, it’s giving off a Kia EV6 vibe.

Faraday will have more to say about the model in March, but the prototypes will “undergo further testing and validation” in the United States to ensure the FX 6 meets their “high standards for performance, technology, and user experience.” They added these tests will include a focus on autonomous driving as well as advanced driver assistance systems.

The FX 6 is slated to start between $30,000 and $50,000. Little else is known about the model, but the company has implied it, as well as other FX vehicles, could offer electric and range-extended powertrains. FX production could begin later this year, but Faraday has previously said that’s “subject to securing necessary funding and agreements.”

Peugeot E-3008 And E-5008 Gaining New Performance Variant

  • Peugeot is gearing up to launch performance versions of the E-3008 and E-5008.
  • The models will have a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces 321 hp.
  • A five-seat version of the E-5008 will be launched in the first half of this year.

Peugeot quietly used its latest E-Lion Day to reveal plans to expand its electric vehicle lineup in 2025. This will be spearheaded by performance versions of the E-3008 and E-5008.

Set to arrive in the coming weeks, the models will have a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces a combined output of 321 hp (239 kW / 325 PS). The vehicles retain a front-mounted motor producing 210 hp (157 kW / 213 PS) and it’s joined by a new rear-mounted motor developing 110 hp (82 kW / 112 PS).

More: 2025 Peugeot E-5008 Gives Buyers What The Mighty Tesla Model Y Won’t

Speaking of the E-5008, the company will launch a new five-seat variant in the first half of 2025. It will offer 35.1 cubic feet (994 liters) of cargo room behind the second-row, which is 2.8 cubic feet (78 liters) more than the seven-seat variant. When the rear seats are folded down, the luggage capacity increases to 81.6 cubic feet (2,310 liters).

While these aren’t groundbreaking developments, Peugeot noted orders for their electric vehicles doubled last year. The French brand went on to say they had the highest growth in Europe for retail electric vehicle sales and were the electric B-segment leader.

The automaker also highlighted the Peugeot Electric Promise, which sees their electric vehicles come with an 8 year or 99,419 mile (160,000 km) warranty as well as a wall box charger and a Free2Move Charge pass, which provides access to nearly one million charging points across Europe.

Mercedes-Benz Vans Abandons EV-Only Push, Announces New ICE Platform

  • Mercedes-Benz Vans has abandoned plans to go electric-only.
  • The company will offer ICE-powered models on a new VAN.CA platform.
  • It borrows heavily from the electric-only VAN.EA platform and has 70% parts commonality.

Not long ago, Mercedes-Benz Vans was envisioning a “fully electric future” where all models would be based on the new VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture) platform. The transition was slated to begin in 2026 and spy photographers have already snapped an assortment of different prototypes.

Fast forward to today and the company is pulling the plug on its electric-only future. In a bid to “meet customer requirements,” Mercedes-Benz Vans is promising to offer an assortment of models with state-of-the-art combustion engines.

More: Mercedes To Roll Out 19 New ICE And 17 EV Models That Will Ditch The Egg Shape By 2027

Since the VAN.EA platform was designed specifically for battery electric vehicles, this means the company was forced to develop a separate architecture. It’s known as VAN.CA (Van Combustion Architecture) and it will rely heavily on VAN.EA.

Mercedes didn’t go into many specifics, but said the platforms share around 70 percent of components. They can also be produced on the same line, which helps to minimize the financial impact from their electric-only screw up.

Mercedes-Benz Vans Abandons EV-Only Push, Announces New ICE Platform

There’s no word on how much the new platform will cost to develop, but it’s money that Mercedes wasn’t planning to spend. However, with slower than expected electric vehicle adoption, the writing was likely on the wall.

Speaking of which, Mercedes-Benz USA sold 49,573 vans in the United States last year but only 828 of them were eSprinters. The electric van went up for order last February for $71,866. The reception wasn’t enthusiastic, but the 2025 model is far more affordable as pricing begins at $61,180.

With both ICE and EV options, Mercedes-Benz Vans said they’re “securing a competitive market position for the future.” They also noted the two platforms give them a “maximally flexible product portfolio.”

Rivian R1 Lineup Gains 850 HP California Dune Edition

  • Rivian has introduced the new R1T and R1S California Dune Editions.
  • They have a unique paint job, special wheels, and a two-tone interior.
  • The EVs have a tri-motor powertrain with 850 hp and 329 miles of range.

Following last week’s sandy teaser, Rivian has introduced California Dune Editions of the R1T and R1S. They’re based on the tri-motor variants and are “inspired by the mesmerizing landscapes” of the deserts in the Golden State.

The special editions have a unique California Dune exterior that pops with black accents. They’re joined by special 20-inch wheels that can be had in a matching California Dune finish or a contrasting Satin Graphite hue.

More: 2025 Rivian R1S And R1T Combine Tired Looks With New Tech And More Power

Buyers will also find an All-Terrain Package, which includes an air compressor as well as underbody protection. Up top, there are roof-mounted crossbars that hold Maxtrax recovery boards. Rounding out the highlights are a spare tire and a unique power tonneau cover on the R1T.

The styling changes continue inside with an Adventure interior that combines Sandstone and Black Mountain upholstery. They’re joined by dark ash wood trim and stylish Chilewich floor mats.

\\\\\\\\\

Motivation is provided by a tri-motor powertrain that combines a front-mounted electric motor with two more out back. This gives the models all-wheel drive as well as an output of 850 hp (634 kW / 862 PS) and 1,103 lb-ft (1,494 Nm) of torque. Thanks to those healthy numbers and a Max battery, the California Dune Editions can accelerate from 0–60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and travel an EPA-estimated 329 miles (529 km) between charges.

Pricing starts at $99,900 for the R1T California Dune Edition, while the R1S will set you back $105,900. Both have delivery estimates of 1-6 weeks and they’re available to order today.

Ferrari EV Spied Up Close While Getting A Charge

  • Ferrari’s electric vehicle has been spied at an Ionity charging station in Europe.
  • The mule appears to be based on the Levante or Purosangue, hinting at a crossover.
  • The model has a CCS charging port, staggered wheels, and what could be a charging status indicator.

We’re living in strange times as Ferrari is set to unveil its first electric vehicle in October and a mule was recently spied charging alongside a Volvo FH. That’s some odd company, but they’re both expensive EVs.

Putting the strangeness aside, the mule appears to be loosely based on the Purosangue or Maserati Levante. This suggests the upcoming production model will be a hatchback-like crossover.

More: Ferrari’s EV Makes Fake V8 Sounds In New Spy Video

While you shouldn’t read too much into the vehicle’s appearance, the extended fender flares suggest the EV will have a wide track. Spy photographers also noted the mule has staggered wheels that measure 23 inches front and 24 inches rear.

Another interesting detail is the roof-mounted shark fin ‘antenna.’ While it appears black, it would occasionally flash green or red. This suggests it could be some kind of charging status indicator, but that’s just a guess.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Spy photographers also noted the door handles are as fake as the tailpipes as the doors are opened by a button. We can also see a Combined Charging System (CCS) port as well as a glimpse of the cargo area.

Ferrari has been tight-lipped about the upcoming model, but the company has a partnership with battery supplier SK On and they inaugurated their e-building last summer. The plant will build the company’s upcoming EV as well as models with hybrid and internal combustion engines. At the time, the automaker mentioned new electric motors that would be “capable of delivering Ferrari’s signature driving excitement.”

Spectre Black Badge Is The Most Powerful Rolls-Royce Ever Created

  • Rolls-Royce has unveiled the new Spectre Black Badge, which is their most powerful car.
  • It has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that can produce up to 650 hp and 793 lb-ft of torque.
  • The model sports an assortment of other changes including black accents and unique 23-inch wheels.

The Rolls-Royce Black Badge lineup is growing as the company has introduced a high-performance Spectre. It’s the most powerful Rolls-Royce in history as well as the first fully electric Black Badge model.

Designed to be “effortlessly intense, immediate, and precise,” the Spectre Black Badge appears to have an upgraded dual-motor all-wheel drive system that can produce up to 650 hp (485 kW / 659 hp) and 793 lb-ft (1,075 Nm) of torque. That’s considerably more than the standard model’s output of 577 hp (430 kW / 584 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm).

Review: The Rolls-Royce Spectre Is The Ultimate EV

Designed to be “effortlessly intense, immediate, and precise,” the Spectre Black Badge appears to have an upgraded dual-motor all-wheel drive system that can produce up to 650 hp (485 kW / 659 hp) and 793 lb-ft (1,075 Nm) of torque. That’s considerably more than the standard model’s output of 577 hp (430 kW / 584 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm).

However, it appears you can’t get the full horsepower and torque output at the same time. While Rolls-Royce was annoyingly opaque, they noted the car has a new Infinity Mode which can be unlocked by pressing a button on the steering wheel. It frees up all 650 ponies to provide a “more direct throttle response to the driver.”

If you want to get the maximum torque output, you have to select Spirited Mode. Essentially Launch Control for the super rich, Spirited Mode is activated by fully depressing the brake and throttle at the same time while at a stop. Once the car signals that it is ready, the torque output is “temporarily” increased to 793 lb-ft (1,075 Nm) and this enables the Spectre to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds. That’s 0.3 seconds faster than the regular model.

Rolls-Royce didn’t provide additional specifications, but the model presumably has a 102 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This should provide a range of around 277 miles (446 km).

Besides the powertrain upgrades, engineers increased the steering weight, installed upgraded dampers, and reduced body roll. Rolls-Royce said this results in an “enhanced sense of engagement” while still providing a “Magic Carpet” ride.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Styling changes are relatively minor, but the Black Badge rides on 23-inch forged aluminum wheels that offer a two-tone or all-black finish. The car’s traditional brightwork – including the Spirit of Ecstasy, grille surround, window trim, and door handles – also take on a dark finish.

Customers will find a handful of new features and options including an Illuminated Grille backplate that is available in Chartreuse, Charles Blue, Forge Yellow, Turchese, and Tailored Purple. Customers can also get a new Vapour Violet paint job, an Iced Black hood, and a waft coachline that resides on the lower third of the car.

Moving inside, clients will find illuminated Black Badge treadplates as well as instrument dials in Cyan Fire, Neon Nights, Synth Wave, Vivid Grellow, or Ultraviolet. The debut model also sports an illuminated fascia, infinity logos, and Technical Fiber trim. The latter has a black Bolivar wood base that is topped by a diamond-shaped weave consisting of carbon and a fine metal thread.

2026 Jeep Recon 4xe Arrives Late This Year With Trail Rated Moab Trim

  • Jeep has released new details about the Recon, ahead of its launch late this year.
  • The electric crossover will have off-road packages as well as a Trail Rated Moab trim.
  • Expected to ride on the STLA Large platform, the Recon could offer up to 600 hp.

The 2026 Recon 4xe had a cameo in Jeep’s Super Bowl commercial, so it’s not surprising to learn the company has launched a new webpage dedicated to it. This not only reveals new pictures of the upcoming EV, but also a handful of details.

Set to arrive late this year, the Recon promises a “reimagined design” and a “lush interior.” The company also teased “adaptable cargo options, practical capability, and intuitive entertainment features.”

More: Jeep Recon EV Spied As The Wrangler’s Electric Evolution

While the Wagoneer S is aimed at the street, Jeep confirmed the Recon will have a Trail Rated Moab trim. There will also be an assortment of off-road packages that will enable drivers to “follow a path with no roads at all.”

While the Recon and Wagoneer S are aimed at different crowds, they’ll presumably share powertrains. This suggests we can expect a 100.5 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS) and 524 lb-ft (710 Nm) of torque. There could also be a performance variant with 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) and 617 lb-ft (836 Nm) of torque. Regardless of the final numbers, we can expect a range of around 300 miles (483 km).

The Recon was introduced in 2022 and, at the time, the company said the model would be “offered exclusively as a BEV.” Jeep also noted the vehicle would have removable doors and a one-touch power roof.

Other highlights are slated to include a Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-locker axle technology, under-body protection, tow hooks, and aggressive off-road tires. There will also be a Uconnect infotainment system that provides “detailed travel guides of the most notable off-road trails.”

US Sales Of ICE-Powered Vehicles Fell Last Year As EVs and PHEVs Surged

  • Trucks and SUVs accounted for 75% of registrations in the United States last year.
  • SUV sales were up 5% and GM controls the segment with a 15.6% market share.
  • Sales of ICE-powered vehicles fell as consumers bought more EVs and plug-in hybrids.

Americans have embraced a bigger is better philosophy and that’s being reflected in sales of trucks and SUVs. According to JATO Dynamics, they accounted for 75% of total vehicle registrations last year.

Of the 16.09 million vehicles sold in the United States, a whopping 9.17 million were SUVs. That’s an increase of 5% from 2023 and GM controls the segment with a 15.6% market share. They’re followed by Toyota (13.3%), Hyundai-Kia (12.6%), and Ford (9.6%).

More: Toyota RAV4 Ends Ford F-150’s Reign As America’s Best-Seller

Honda came in fifth place with a 9.4% market share, but they have reason to celebrate as they were the fastest-growing SUV brand last year. This was largely due to the popularity of the CR-V, HR-V, and Pilot.

Speaking of popular models, the redesigned Chevrolet Trax has been a huge hit. It saw the biggest gain in market share and was the 15th best-selling vehicle in America. The crossover’s success isn’t much of a surprise as the model starts at $20,500 and is a huge improvement over its predecessor.

Of course, one of the biggest stories of the year was the downfall of the Ford F-150. Despite a facelift, sales dropped 5% to 460,915 units. This enabled the Toyota RAV4 to become the best-selling vehicle in America with sales of 475,193 units.

EVs and plug-in hybrids continued to grow in popularity as automakers added more options to their lineups. EV sales climbed 12%, while plug-in hybrids surged 39%.

On the flip side, sales of ICE-powered vehicles fell 0.6% to 12.05 million units. That’s a small decline, but ICE-powered market share dropped below 80%.

Kia EV2, EV4, And PV5 Teased Ahead Of Feb 27 Debut

  • Kia will host an EV Day on February 27 to introduce three new vehicles.
  • The production-spec EV4 and PV5 van will be the stars of the event.
  • Kia will also introduce the EV2 concept, which appears to be an electric crossover.

Kia has announced plans to host an EV Day on February 27 in Tarragona, Spain. It promises to be jam-packed with news including the unveiling of three electric vehicles.

The big news is the debut of the EV4, which was previewed by a concept and has been spied numerous times. The model is set to be offered globally as a sedan and hatchback. Both will sport a futuristic Opposites United design that incorporates some cues from the EV6.

More: Kia EV4 Gives Up Interior Secrets, Reveals Widescreen Display

We can expect to learn full details later this month, but the model might be offered with 58.3 and 81.4 kWh battery packs. They could power a front-mounted motor developing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 209 lb-ft (283 Nm) of torque.

Another standout will be the PV5 van, which was previewed by a similarly named concept. It’s slated to feature a bold design as well as a practical and flexible interior.

Last but not least, the company will unveil the new EV2 concept. It’s a compact electric vehicle and the teasers suggest it will be a crossover with plastic body cladding and faux skid plates. We can also see three-dimensional taillights as well as what appears to be a contrasting black roof.

The teaser video is a tad more revealing as it shows the EV2 will have a stylish front end with vertical lighting units. We can also get a glimpse of streamlined bodywork and muscular accents.

Congressional Republicans Want New EV Road Tax, Use Bogus Numbers To Justify It

  • Congressional Republicans have proposed a two-tier tax on EVs.
  • It would include a flat $1,000 fee as well as a separate $550 fee for heavy batteries.
  • Documentation supporting the legislation is full of false and misleading information.

The war on EVs continues as Congressional Republicans have introduced legislation that would levy a new tax on them. It’s billed as the “Fair Share” act and it wants to institute new fees to ensure electric vehicle owners are paying for infrastructure.

As the office of U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb) explained, gas taxes help support the Highway Trust Fund which is used to pay for the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges. Electric vehicles don’t use gas or diesel, so they don’t pay fees despite using the same roads and bridges.

More: California Considers Charging Drivers Per Mile As Gas Tax Dwindles Due To EVs

While we’ve already seen similar efforts on a state level, this is a national effort that attempts to level the playing field as the federal tax is 18.3 cents per gallon for gas and 24.3 cents per gallon for diesel. It aims to do this with a two-tier fee structure that would “impose a one-time fee of $1,000 on all-electric vehicles at the manufacturer level, at the point of sale.” This is designed to represent a ten-year life span as “light-duty vehicles with internal combustion engines have an average lifespan of 100,000 miles (160,934 km), which equates to approximately 10 years.”

While the average vehicle in the United States is 12.6 years old, we’ll skip that and mention the second fee. It’s a one-time charge of “$550 on each battery module with a weight greater than 1,000 pounds (454 kg).”

Congressional Republicans Want New EV Road Tax, Use Bogus Numbers To Justify It

This is seeking to penalize EVs, which have big batteries and are heavier than their ICE-powered counterparts. However, a one-sheet put out by Fischer’s office is full of incorrect and misleading information.

In particular, it claims the “Ford F-150 Lightning weighs over 6,000 lbs (2,722 kg), whereas the F-150 internal combustion engine weighs an average of 3,000 lbs (1,361 kg).” While the F-150 Lightning has a curb weight of between 6,015 lbs (2,728 kg) and 6,893 lbs (3,127 kg), it’s nowhere near twice as heavy as the regular F-150.

Quite the opposite as the ICE-powered truck weighs between 4,391 lbs (1,992 kg) and 5,950 lbs (2,699 kg). The latter number is just 65 lbs (29 kg) more than the Lightning and no F-150 is even close to weighing 3,000 lbs (1,361 kg), let alone on average.

Congressional Republicans Want New EV Road Tax, Use Bogus Numbers To Justify It

While the F-150 weight was straight up false, Fischer’s office doubled down on dubious stats. This time the one-sheet said, “The Ford EV Mustang weighs nearly 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg), and a Ford Mustang with an internal combustion engine weighs 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg).”

Those numbers are misleading as the 2024 Mustang Mach-E weighs between 4,595 lbs (2,084 kg) and 4,979 lbs (2,258 kg). The Mustang, on the other hand, weighs between 3,588 lbs (1,627 kg) and 3,993 lbs (1,811 kg).

Here, it appears Fischer’s office cherry-picked numbers – going for the lightest Mustang and the heaviest Mustang Mach-E – but they didn’t even acknowledge the obvious. The Mustang Mach-E is a crossover, while the regular Mustang is available as a coupe and convertible. They’re two totally different vehicles, so comparing their weights is pointless.

Congressional Republicans Want New EV Road Tax, Use Bogus Numbers To Justify It

Despite this, Fischer released a statement saying “EVs can weigh up to three times as much as gas-powered cars, creating more wear and tear on our roads and bridges. It’s only fair that they pay into the Highway Trust Fund just like other cars do.”

Her sentiments were echoed by U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) who said, “EV drivers use our highways just as much as gas-powered vehicles, yet they are currently exempt from paying into the Highway Trust Fund because the Biden administration wanted to score points with its radical climate change base. The days of liberal elites in their expensive EV’s getting a free pass are over; they are contributing to wear and tear on our roads, and they should be forced to pay their fair share in repairs just like the rest of us.”

Outside of the Senate, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-SD) introduced identical legislation in the House. He said, “The Highway Trust Fund is on the road to insolvency. It’s time to consider real changes and ensure EVs pay their fair share to maintain our roads and bridges.”

Audi Q4 E-Tron Gains New Entry-Level Trim That Promises To Go The Distance

  • Audi has introduced an affordable Q4 e-tron, with 201 hp and 263 miles of range.
  • Pricing starts at €46,150 ($47k) in Germany and a Sportback is also available.
  • The crossover is slightly more expensive than mid-level versions of the VW ID.4.

Audi delivered over 100,000 Q4 e-trons in 2024, making it a rare silver lining in an otherwise dreadful year. Given its success, Audi is expanding the lineup to include a new “high-range entry-level variant.”

Set to go up for order later this month, the new Q4 40 e-tron has a 63 kWh battery pack that powers a rear-mounted motor developing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS). This enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 8.1 seconds and onto a top speed of 99 mph (160 km/h). Customers can also expect to travel up to 263 miles (424 km) between charging sessions.

Review: The Audi Q4 E-Tron Provides Plenty Of Value, But It’s Not Much Fun

When it’s time to replenish the battery, owners will be thankful for the Q4’s 165 kW DC fast charging capability. It enables the battery to go from 10-80% in as little as 24 minutes. If you’re pressed for time, a ten minute stop can add up to 96 miles (155 km) of range.

Speaking of charging, drivers now have the option of manually enabling battery preconditioning. This is a welcome change for drivers who don’t rely on the navigation system and it’s automatic battery-preconditioning function.

Audi Q4 E-Tron Gains New Entry-Level Trim That Promises To Go The Distance

German pricing starts at €46,150 ($47,836), which significantly undercuts the €52,950 ($54,885) Q4 45 e-tron. However, that model has a larger 82 kWh battery pack and a more powerful motor developing 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS). That being said, customers can also get a Q4 Sportback 40 e-tron for €48,150 ($49,904).

Audi didn’t say much about equipment, but the crossovers have a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, GPS navigation, and heated front seats. A power liftgate is also standard, although a kick sensor is optional.

$80k Will Get You A 315 HP Rivian Delivery Van

  • Rivian has opened up orders for its electric delivery van.
  • Two different versions are available and pricing starts at $79,900.
  • The vans have 315 hp as well as a range of up to 161 miles.

If the quiet whir of an Amazon delivery vehicle excites you, you’re in luck as Rivian has begun selling their commercial van to fleet customers. This is an interesting development as Amazon originally had an exclusivity agreement with Rivian.

With the deal now over, customers can order the Rivian Delivery 500 and the Delivery 700. The former starts at $79,900 and measures 248.5 inches (6,312 mm) long. It has a cargo capacity of 487 cubic feet (13,790 liters) and can accommodate payloads of up to 2,663 lbs (1,208 kg).

More: Rivian Will Produce Fleet Vehicles For AT&T

The Delivery 700 is similar, but starts at $83,900 and is 278 inches (7,061 mm) long. Thanks to the extra length, the cargo capacity climbs to 652 cubic feet (18,463 liters), while the payload rating drops to 2,258 lbs (1,024 kg).

Both vans have a 100 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack that powers a front-mounted motor producing 315 hp (235 kW / 320 PS) and 299 lb-ft (405 Nm) of torque. This gives them a range of approximately 160 miles (257 km). When it’s time to recharge, you’re in for a wait as the vans have a DC fast charging capability that maxes out at 100 kW.

\\\\\\\\\\

Buyers will find a fairly basic cabin with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.4-inch infotainment system. They’re joined by a heated and cooled driver’s seat as well as a front passenger jump seat.

Since the Rivian commercial van was designed to be one of the safest vehicles on the road, it comes with a long list of driver assistance systems. These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning, and Speed Limit Information. The model also has Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Warning, and High Beam Assist. Rounding out the highlights are a surround view camera, a back-up warning system, and Surround Park Assist.

The vans cost more than Chevy’s Brightdrop lineup and offer significantly less range. However, Rivian’s Tom Solomon noted “Amazon currently has more than 20,000 in its fleet and delivered over a billion packages … in 2024 alone.” He added, “We’re excited to now be able to open sales to fleets of all sizes in the US, whether they want 1 van or thousands.”

Chevrolet Blazer EV SS Launching Soon, Will Be A Lyriq-V For The Masses

  • Chevrolet is finally gearing up to launch the Blazer EV SS, following a lengthy delay.
  • The model has 615 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, which enables it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds.
  • Pricing starts at $62,490 and the electric crossover has an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles.

Nearly three years have passed since Chevrolet unveiled the Blazer EV SS and we wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve forgotten about it as the model was originally slated to be launched in late 2023. However, it’s finally coming as the crossover will go on sale later this quarter.

Set to continue the legacy of the Trailblazer SS, the Blazer EV SS has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces 615 hp (459 kW / 624 PS) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. This blows past earlier estimates of 557 hp (415 kW / 565 PS) and 648 lb-ft (878 Nm).

More: 2025 Chevy Blazer EV Gains Entry-Level FWD And High-Performance SS Models

If that figure sounds familiar, it should as the output is the same as the Cadillac Lyriq-V as well as the Vistiq. This means customers will be getting Cadillac levels of performance for a Chevy-like price of $62,490 including destination. For comparison, the Lyriq-V will set you back $79,990.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Besides being relatively affordable, the crossover can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.4 seconds in Wide Open Watts mode. That’s a tenth of a second slower than the Cadillac and on par with the less powerful Jeep Wagoneer S. It also easily beats the Trailblazer SS, which took 5.4 seconds to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) thanks to a 6.0-liter V8 developing 395 hp (295 kW / 400 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque.

Performance aside, the Blazer EV SS has an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles (488 km). This ties the Jeep and bests the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT’s range of 280 miles (451 km).

To celebrate the launch, the Blazer EV SS will be the official pace car for this weekend’s Daytona 500. The vehicle is fully stock, aside from custom graphics and embedded strobe lights.

Chevrolet Blazer EV SS Launching Soon, Will Be A Lyriq-V For The Masses

The pace car won’t be the only EV at the event as Chevrolet will unveil a Blazer EV.R NASCAR Prototype. The company isn’t saying much about it, but the model “represents a joint effort between NASCAR and OEM partners, with the intent of exploring new and emerging automotive technologies.”

That’s not much to go on, but teaser images show a massive rear wing and lightweight windows. We can also see a quick release hood as well as a front end that appears to mimic the road-going model.

Since NASCAR isn’t exactly the most EV-friendly crowd, GM Performance and Motorsports vice president Jim Campbell was quick to note “Chevrolet V8 engines continue to be an important part of NASCAR.” However, he added “Racing has always been an important platform for Chevrolet to test, learn and explore new technologies.”

Porsche Sales Dip Looms, But New Gas And Hybrid Models Are Coming

  • Porsche confirmed plans for new models with PHEV and internal combustion engines.
  • The company is also expanding their Sonderwunsch and Exclusive Manufaktur programs.
  • Porsche sales fell 3% last year and the company is expecting another decline in 2025.

The electric revolution fizzled and many automakers have now abandoned or delayed plans to go electric-only. This has left a number of firms scrambling to churn out new models with internal combustion engines as well as hybrid powertrains.

Porsche is among them as they recently confirmed, “We will develop new combustion-engined derivatives [of our EVs] in order to give the right answer to customer demand.” Given this, it’s not surprising to learn the company has announced an “expansion of the product portfolio to include additional vehicle models with combustion engines or plug-in hybrids.”

Porsche didn’t go into specifics, but said the move is designed to strengthen their profitability in the short and medium term. This effort also includes a renewed focus on Porsche Sonderwunsch (special request) and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. These are highly profitable programs steeped in personalization, so the company wants to maximize their profitability.

However, these initiatives come at a cost and this is on top of already expensive vehicle and battery development. Porsche warned these efforts will “lead to significant additional expenditures” and their impact for the 2025 financial year could total €800 ($826) million.

Porsche Sales Dip Looms, But New Gas And Hybrid Models Are Coming

If that wasn’t bad enough, Porsche is expecting a “market-induced” drop in sales for 2025. The automaker also forecasted sales revenues of €39-40 ($40.2-41.3) billion for the year.

Porsche deliveries fell by more than 9,500 units last year and the company has previously pointed to China’s “continuing challenging economic situation.” The company blamed this for sagging Panamera sales, which were off by 13%.

Investors weren’t happy and Porsche AG stock closed down 6.45 % to €55.94 ($57.78) per share in Frankfurt.

Trump Administration Hits Pause On EV Charger Funding

  • The Trump administration has paused a program that funded electric vehicle chargers.
  • Existing obligations will be met, but new ones are on hold until updated guidance is issued.
  • The updated program is expected to have a greater focus on costs and benefits.

The Trump administration’s war on electric vehicles is heating up as the Federal Highway Administration has effectively paused the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. It provides funding to states to “strategically deploy electric vehicle chargers and to establish an interconnected network to facilitate data collection, access, and reliability.”

While the program isn’t dead, the Federal Highway Administration recently wrote to state transportation directors to inform them that the new leadership of the U.S. Department of Transportation has “decided to review the policies underlying the implementation of the NEVI” program. It went on to say the Federal Highway Administration will be updating the program’s guidance to align with the department’s new policies and priorities.

It then referred to a new order that dictates policies be “based on sound economic principles and analysis supported by rigorous cost-benefit requirements and data-driven decisions.” It also called for a reduced focus on emissions as it claimed previous calculations were marked by “logical deficiencies” and “politicalization.”

Getting back to the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, updated guidance is expected to be posted this spring and open for public comment. In the meantime, the Federal Highway Administration is immediately suspending the approval of all state plans and not making any new obligations until the new guidance is posted. States will then have to submit new plans and have them approved.

Trump Administration Hits Pause On EV Charger Funding

On the bright side, the government said “reimbursement of existing obligations will be allowed in order to not disrupt current financial commitments.” However, states won’t be held responsible if they don’t implement their existing plans.

In essence, the $5 billion program is being retooled and new funding will be delayed. How long is anyone’s guess, but it would likely be hard to kill the program as it was part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Cadillac Optiq-V To Take Aim At Tesla Model Y Performance

  • Cadillac is working on an all-new Optiq-V, which could arrive next year.
  • It features a lightly revised exterior with new bumpers and a taller spoiler.
  • The model could have a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 515 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque.

Cadillac’s V-Series lineup is getting an electrifying makeover as spy photographers have snapped the first pictures of the 2026 Optiq-V. It will slot beneath the Lyriq-V, which will be launched later this year and cost $79,990.

Dressed in heavy camouflage, the prototype doesn’t look too remarkable at first glance. However, a closer inspection reveals a new front bumper and a revised intake with a mesh insert, which echoes its bigger brother. We can also see what appears to be a subtle front lip.

The sportier styling continues further back as the prototype rides on stylish 21-inch wheels. They’re backed up by a beefier braking system and it’s worth noting the front discs on the Lyriq-V are nearly 2.8 inches (71 mm) larger than on the regular model.

Putting the wheels aside, it looks like the crossover will be equipped with streamlined cladding for a less bulky appearance. We can also see a taller, mid-mounted spoiler as well as a sportier rear bumper.

Cadillac Optiq-V To Take Aim At Tesla Model Y Performance

The standard Optiq has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 354 lb-ft (479 Nm) of torque. There’s no word on how powerful the Optiq-V will be, but Cadillac may have hinted at a precedent with the Lyriq-V, which has the same output as the Vistiq.

If this philosophy carries over to the entry-level crossover, it should match the numbers generated by the all-wheel drive Lyriq. Should this pan out, we can expect a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 515 hp (384 kW / 522 PS) and 450 lb-ft (609 Nm) of torque.

Regardless of the final numbers, range will likely take a significant hit. That’s unfortunate as the 85 kWh battery pack only enables the standard model to travel 302 miles (486 km) on a single charge.

Ford’s CEO Talks Tariffs And New Range-Extended Vehicles

  • Ford will offer range-extended vehicles as part of an evolving multi-energy strategy.
  • The company’s CEO said large electric crossovers don’t make sense and need huge batteries.
  • Ford had a net income of $5.9 billion in 2024, but they’re expecting “headwinds” this year.

Ford revealed their fourth quarter and full year earnings yesterday, while also shedding light on future models. There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s dive right in.

Speaking during the earnings call, Ford CEO Jim Farley said hybrid trucks are a key growth area and give the automaker “pricing power” thanks to features such as Pro Power Onboard. The system turns pickups into mobile power stations that can generate electricity for job sites, camping or emergencies.

Farley went on to say automakers are embracing hybrids and they’re expecting to see aggressive growth. This includes in the truck segment, where “customers … are learning that a hybrid can also mean uncompromised towing and torque and payload and other performance advantages, including fuel economy.”

While electric vehicle adoption has been slower than many companies were expecting, Farley sounded upbeat and said they’re “deep in the development of our next-generation of vehicles that we believe will be affordable, high volume and great for our business.” He went on to say the “sweet spot” in America is small- and medium-sized trucks and crossovers, which are used for commuting or as a second vehicle.

In essence, vehicles that aren’t used on long trips. As Farley explained, they can use smaller and cheaper batteries, which will enable them to be offered to consumers at lower prices. This should help to increase adoption and electrify sales.

On the flip side, Farley said large electric utility vehicles have “unresolvable” economics. Hyundai and Kia would probably beg to differ, but Ford axed their three-row electric crossovers in 2024.

Farley didn’t talk specifically about their deaths, but said large electric crossovers have terrible aerodynamics as well as very large and expensive batteries. On top of that, he claimed customers won’t pay a premium for them. He might have a point as a quick search reveals a number of Kia EV9s being offered with discounts well in excess of $10,000.

Ford’s CEO Talks Tariffs And New Range-Extended Vehicles

One surprising development was the revelation that Ford is going to embrace range-extended vehicles. Stellantis is already going down that road with the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Farley appears to think they’re headed in the right direction.

He noted range-extended vehicles can “get over 700 miles (1,127 km) of range, but still drive most miles all electric.” Farley added they give customers an electric experience without range anxiety as well as an “electric vehicle that’s fully comparable to an ICE vehicle in terms of cost.”

The executive went on to say range-extended vehicles can use smaller batteries that have a range of around 150 miles (241 km), because there’s a generator onboard. This stands in contrast to traditional EVs, where you need a big and expensive battery to deliver around 300 to 350 miles (483 to 563 km) of range. That might not sound like a huge difference, but Farley said “you’re talking about tens and tens and tens of thousands of dollars.”

Ford’s CEO Talks Tariffs And New Range-Extended Vehicles

Given this, Ford is eyeing extended-range powertrains for certain vehicles. He said this is part of a larger multi-energy strategy and this should result in a powertrain to suit everyone.

Farley also briefly touched on the brewing global trade war, saying a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico “would have a huge impact on our industry with billions of dollars of industry profits wiped out” in a protracted scenario. The executive also confirmed customers would be forced to pay higher prices.

Now that the fun and interesting stuff is out of the way, let’s take a brief look at the company’s 2024 results. Revenues climbed 5% to $185 billion, but their electric Model e division posted a loss of $5.1 billion as developing EVs and building battery plants isn’t cheap.

While the EV loss is eye-catching, the company declared a first-quarter regular dividend of $0.15 per share as well as a supplemental dividend of $0.15. The company also provided a less than rosy forecast for 2025 as they’re expecting headwinds.

Entry-Level Jeep Wagoneer S To Debut In Chicago

  • Jeep will use the Chicago Auto Show to introduce a new version of the Wagoneer S.
  • It will likely be an entry-level model that costs less than the $70,795 Launch Edition.
  • The Wagoneer S Limited could drop some features and cost around $67,000.

The Chicago Auto Show is right around the corner and it appears Jeep will use the event to introduce the 2025 Wagoneer S. The company isn’t saying much, but confirmed a new trim.

This suggests we can expect an entry-level variant as the 2024 model is offered exclusively in Launch Edition guise. It starts at $70,795 and dealers have been slapping on discounts in excess of $12,000 to make it more competitive. However, even then, it’s a tough sell as the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT starts at $54,995.

While the new trim should help to expand the model’s appeal, it looks like another lackluster year for the Windy City. Besides two new Subaru SUVs, believed to be the Forster Hybrid and Forester Wilderness, there isn’t much to talk about besides the What Drives Her awards.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

That’s not exactly a jam-packed schedule – although Friday’s “MRE Snacks with Army” sounds wonderfully random – but it would still best the Detroit Auto Show. That once prestigious event didn’t have much besides the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards as well as the Ford Mustang RTR and Mustang GTD Spirit of America.

That being said, the Chicago Auto Show opens to the public on February 8th and runs through the 17th. Tickets cost $17 for adults, $12 for seniors (62+), and $12 for children (4-12).

Gas-Powered Dodge Charger Arrives This Summer, 3 New Jeeps Coming Too

  • Ram is gearing up to launch more affordable versions of their 1500 pickup truck.
  • The gas-powered Dodge Charger with an inline-six turbo will arrive by this summer.
  • Three new Jeeps are on the horizon and one should be the Cherokee successor.

Carlos Tavares had a rocky relationship with U.S. dealers, so Stellantis is trying to improve things now that he’s gone. As part of that effort, the company recently attended the National Automobile Dealers Association to tell their partners things will get better.

A big part of this will be new product and Ram will launch the 1500 Ramcharger later this year. It’s a range-extended pickup that has a 92 kWh battery pack, which powers a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 663 hp (494 kW / 672 PS) and 615 lb-ft (833 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 4.4 seconds.

More: 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger Is An Electric Truck That Actually Makes Sense, Thanks To A V6 Engine

However, what makes the Ramcharger special is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that acts as a generator. This should give the truck up to 690 miles (1,110 km) of range and the ability to tow up to 14,000 lbs (6,350 kg).

Besides launching the Ramcharger, the company will introduce “more affordable trims for the Ram 1500.” The truck currently starts at $40,275 in Tradesman guise, but there are huge price gaps at the lower end. In particular, the next step up is the $45,230 Big Horn and pricing jumps to $54,505 for the Warlock.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Over at Dodge, the gas-powered Charger will be launched by this summer. It features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six that is available in two different outputs. The entry-level variant has 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS), while the high output version produces 550 hp (410 kW / 558 PS). Both are significantly more powerful than the old 5.7- and 6.4-liter Hemi V8s, which developed 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 485 hp (362 kW / 492 PS) in the Challenger.

Lastly, there’s Jeep which has been devastated by a series of missteps. However, Stellantis told dealers they’ll be introducing “three all-new Jeep nameplates and three new powertrains” including ICE, hybrid and electric. One of them is the Recon, while another is likely the Cherokee successor.

\\\\\

The third model is a bit of a mystery, assuming it’s not the Wagoneer S, but the company has already confirmed plans for a redesigned Compass and Renegade. Jeep boss Antonio Filosa has also previously said the Gladiator 4xe is coming this year.

Aside from new and updated products, Stellantis told dealers to expect “consistent incentive programs, increased advertising efforts, and exciting product actions designed to support dealers and meet evolving customer needs.” The automaker didn’t go into many specifics, but said advertising will return to pre-pandemic levels and part of this includes Super Bowl ads for Jeep and Ram.

Renault And Volvo Joint Venture Unveils Three New Electric Delivery Vans

  • Flexis has unveiled three new commercial vans, which will be launched in Europe next year.
  • They’re based on an electric skateboard platform and will offer a range of up to 280 miles.
  • The company is a joint venture between Renault, Volvo Group, and CMA CGM.

Flexis Mobility burst onto the scene last year as a joint venture between Renault Group, Volvo Group, and shipping company CMA CGM. Now, we’re seeing the fruits of their labor as the company has unveiled three new commercial vans.

Designed to revolutionize urban logistics, all three vans are based on an electric skateboard platform and share an electronic architecture. The models also have a customizable interior as well as a low floor height to aid in the loading and unloading of packages.

Flexis went on to say customers can expect a WLTP range of up to 280 miles (450 km) as well as a fast charging capability that can deliver an 80% charge in less than 20 minutes. The company also paid attention to ergonomics and driver safety as they noted the driver’s seat has been specifically positioned to reduce knee strain. This is important as drivers might have to get up and sit down 250 times per day.

The firm didn’t go into many specifics, but their Step-in model is a medium van that features sliding front doors. It also has a rear shutter door, which is being billed as a “first for the European market.” There’s easy access between the cabin and cargo area, and the 74.8-inch (1,900 mm) height means drivers can easily walk around inside.

\\\\\\\\\\\

The Cargo Van is an urban last-mile delivery vehicle that has an “easily convertible box,” which is “capable of integrating different widths, heights, and beds, as well as modular solutions including, but not limited to, refrigerated boxes.” The model also has traditional front doors as well as a low cab height.

The Panel Van is perhaps the most interesting of the three as it looks ready to challenge industry heavyweights. Flexis didn’t say much about it, but claimed the model will have superior maneuverability, an overall height of 74.8 inches (1,900 mm), and a “multi-purpose design [that] addresses all limitations of current market offerings.” It also looks pretty good, which is a tad surprising for a commercial vehicle.

The vans will be built at Renault’s Sandouville plant and the first deliveries are slated for 2026. Flexis will sell vehicles directly to fleets and logistics providers, but they’ll also supply them to Renault which will “distribute them under their own brands in their sales networks.”

20 prototypes have been built and they’ve already logged more than 9,000 hours of driving since March of last year. Flexis also noted they have received ten letters of intent from logistics providers in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Among them are Colis Privé, DB Schenker, and HIVED.
