Hate Your Cybertruck’s Mirrors? There’s A Delete Kit For That Too

  • The first 80 examples of the kit used genuine stainless steel from the Tesla pickup.
  • Future versions of the delete kit will be made from aluminum and plastic.
  • When Tesla first showed the Cybertruck as a concept, it had no wing mirrors.

Do you own a Tesla Cybertruck but despise the wing mirrors that it comes with? Well, Tesbros has a “solution” for you. They’ve started selling a mirror delete kit for the electric pickup, which will make your vehicle look a little less… conventional. But before you rush to buy one, it’s worth checking whether your state even allows driving without wing mirrors. After all, you might end up with a ticket instead of a cleaner-looking truck.

Many states across the United States require cars to have both left and right wing mirrors, while others require at least one wing mirror. For states where mirrors aren’t explicitly required in local legislation, such as Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, and Montana, this is an intriguing way to make your Cybertruck look a little nicer(?).

Read: Masked Man Allegedly Caught With Tesla Map After Torching Cybertruck

When the mirrors of the Cybertruck are removed, an ugly hole is left behind on the door. Tesbros solution is a small stainless steel plate and a piece of ABS plastic to cover up the mess. The plate’s underside mimics that of the mirror and screws into place, securing it and ensuring it’s sturdy. Tesbros says the kit has been designed to work in all different conditions, including in states like Arizona, where it gets very hot in the summer.

The small piece of stainless steel used has been cut from a scrap Tesla Cybertruck door that Tesbros was able to secure, meaning it matches up nicely. However, they only had enough stainless steel to produce 80 kits, and it seems the entire first batch has already sold out. A future version of the kit, likely made from aluminum, is in development, with a plastic version also under consideration.

The original stainless kit wasn’t exactly a bargain, priced at a staggering $299 for what’s essentially two pieces of stainless steel and two bits of ABS plastic. And just to add a little more drama to the mix, at least one user on the Cybertruck Owners Club reported that after installing the kit, the adhesive holding the ABS piece to the stainless steel gave way, causing it to fly off on the highway. However, they did note that the company sent replacements which appear to be fine.

Ferrari’s First EV Could Supercharge Its Sales In The World’s Biggest Market

  • Ferrari’s Elettrica will likely benefit from much lower taxes compared to ICE-powered models.
  • China’s booming luxury EV market makes the brand’s first electric model a strategic asset.
  • Recent patents suggest the Elettrica might feature fake sounds and a virtual transmission.

Ferrari’s first electric vehicle isn’t just a step towards reducing the automaker’s overall emissions, but it could also play a pivotal role in reviving the brand’s sluggish sales in China. However, despite the growing importance of EVs in China’s market, locals will have to exercise some patience, as deliveries of the Elettrica won’t begin until at least October next year.

In addition to China being a booming market for EVs, there’s a growing fascination with high-performance electric models across the country, making it an ideal fit for Ferrari. Even better, the car, currently referred to as the Elettrica, will benefit from a much more favorable tax structure than Ferrari’s traditional gas-powered models.

While local taxes on the brand’s internal combustion engine (ICE) cars can reach up to four times the price of the vehicle, the Elettrica is expected to be taxed at a much more manageable 30% of its retail price.

Sales Decline Amid Economic Slowdown

According to Bloomberg, Ferrari’s shipments to China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan dropped 25% in the first quarter of the year, marking the lowest figures in almost four years. This decline is partly attributed to China’s economic slowdown, which led to a 20% decrease in sales of vehicles priced above 500,000 yuan (about $69,200). In 2024, this drop resulted in only 677,000 units being sold in that segment.

Earlier this month, Ferrari revealed that it will preview the powertrain of the Elettrica this October, before debuting the vehicle in full next spring. It is shaping up to be a hatchback-style crossover similar to the Purosangue, although it is tipped to be slightly smaller.

While Ferrari has kept many details under wraps, we do know that the vehicle’s battery pack, inverters, and electric motors are all being developed and produced in Italy. Recent patents also indicate that Ferrari might give the vehicle fake gears, much like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, as well as an ICE-inspired soundtrack.

The most recent patent says the Elettrica’s electric motors could be used to simulate the changing torque of a traditional engine and transmission. These virtual gears could be activated automatically based on throttle and brake outputs, or operated manually with the paddle shifters.

This Is Where Supercars And Exotics Meet Their Maker

  • Photographer Larry Chen toured Dubai’s vast junkyards, revealing a trove of wrecked supercars.
  • Among the finds was a nearly new, but damaged Lotus Eletre, likely waiting to be dismantled.
  • The junkyard also included exotic models from Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren, and Rolls-Royce.

The Middle East is home to an impressive array of supercars and exotic vehicles, which, unsurprisingly, sometimes meet unfortunate fates. These damaged cars often end up in junkyards, where they are dismantled for spare parts. Hagerty recently explored some of the vast automotive graveyards of Dubai and unearthed a few noteworthy discoveries, most notably, a wrecked example of the brand-new Lotus Eletre.

More: This Japanese Shop Is The World’s Top Destination For Restoring Nissan GT-Rs

Lotus introduced its first fully electric SUV, the Eletre, in 2022, though deliveries didn’t officially begin until 2024. The example found in the junkyard doesn’t appear to have any obvious cosmetic damage, so those shiny yellow body panels might still be good for salvage. However, the air suspension has failed, causing the car to sit lower than usual, and the door handles are popped out, likely due to some internal issues.

While the specific details of the Lotus Eletre’s condition are unclear, it’s possible that it was involved in one of the flash floods reported in the refion, which could easily spell the end for any car, especially one with so much advanced electronics inside. Depending on how high the water reached, the electronics could be toast, and the cabin could have taken on some serious damage.

An Unexpected Collection of Exotics

This yellow Eletre is just one of many sporty and luxury vehicles that keep piling up in Dubai’s junkyards. Well-known automotive photographer Larry Chen, based in Los Angeles, recently toured one of these vast yards, showcasing a variety of damaged vehicles from brands like Bentley, Rolls-Royce, McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin, and Maserati.

According to Chen, it was likely one of the most colorful junkyards he’s ever visited, thanks to the eye-catching color palettes found in high-end cars.

The video, shared on Hagerty’s YouTube channe, offers a closer look at the incredible variety of vehicles and their varying degrees of damage. As Chen pointed out, the junkyard is well-organized, with specific rooms dedicated to various car parts.

That’s good news for anyone hoping to salvage some components, because, as he noted, some parts can be eye-wateringly expensive. A set of carbon ceramic brakes, for example, could cost up to $50k when purchased new. The same applies for body panels, accessories, and mechanical components from high-end cars like the V12-powered Ferrari 812 Superfast.

A nearby junkyard also focuses on American muscle cars, from brands like Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge, providing spare parts to meet the demand in that market.

Overall, Chen was impressed by the range of enthusiast vehicles found in the junkyard, a rare sight in many US-based yards. These types of cars, often worth far more than a standard junkyard find, tell an interesting story of how some of the world’s most coveted machines can end up discarded. The Least Scary Police Car Ever? You Can Thank DEI (But Not That One)

  • A group of ten Fiat 500e models has joined the Greek police force in Athens..
  • The electric hatch sports a police livery, strobe lights, and a 117 hp motor.
  • The small EV has a rear suicide door on one side for easier access to the backseat.

Over the years, police forces have adopted vehicles from nearly every segment imaginable. While some divisions require fast pursuit cars, others need smaller, more nimble vehicles to maneuver through busy urban areas. The Greek police recently received 10 fully electric Fiat 500e units, now patrolling the narrow streets of Athens.

These EVs were gifted to the Greek police by DEI (Public Electric Power Corporation), which, despite sharing its name with the buzzword-heavy acronym for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, is actually just about ensuring your car stays charged, not that it’s inclusive of all power sources. Along with the cars, DEI also threw in 36 charging stations, proving they’re really invested in making sure the only thing running low in this partnership is the battery.

Naturally, the Fiat 500e now sports the classic Greek police livery, complete with iridescent blue decals on its white body and strobe lights atop the roof. The headlight graphics and hubcaps hint that this is the base-spec model, not the fully-loaded La Prima trim.

What is interesting, is that the procurement department chose the Fiat 500e 3+1 bodystyle, which features an additional rear-hinged door on the passenger side. While Fiat initially designed this asymmetrical layout for easier access to the backseat for young families, in this case, it may prove more useful for transporting suspects, provided they can squeeze into the tiny Fiat, of course.

Not Exactly a Pursuit Car

The Least Scary Police Car Ever? You Can Thank DEI (But Not That One)

The 500e police cars are equipped with the standard electric motor, delivering 117 horsepower (87 kW / 118 PS) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. This setup allows the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 9 seconds, which should be more than adequate for urban patrols. If performance were the top priority, however, the fleet might have included at least one Abarth 500e.

More importantly, the 42 kWh battery pack offers a WLTP range of 321 km (199 miles) between charges, or up to 460 km (286 miles) in urban environments. In our review of the 500e, we noticed that real-life range is closer to 260 km (162 miles), but even this will be more than enough for patrolling the city center of the Greek capital.

Not the Slowest Greek Police Car

Surprisingly, the Fiat 500e isn’t the smallest or slowest vehicle in the Greek police fleet. That dubious honor goes to the Citroen Ami, a heavy quadricycle that’s been cycling patrolling the streets of Chalki Island since late 2021, as part of a sustainable mobility initiative.

More: Greece Had Some Of The Coolest Police Cars Of The 1990s To Fight Street Racing

Beyond the electric vehicles, Greek police officers have access to a broad range of cars, from the Seat Leon and Hyundai i30 to the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage, and Peugeot 308. They also have a variety of larger vehicles, including the Nissan Navara and Skoda Octavia.

Recent additions to the police fleet with a performance-focused character include the Hyundai i30 N and Cupra Leon VZ hot hatches, designed for performing highway pursuits and tackling illegal street racing.

Despite its role as the electric flagship for Fiat, the 500e has not been the sales success that Stellantis had hoped for. As a result, Fiat has shifted focus, moving away from an all-EV lineup and introducing a mild-hybrid version, the 500 Ibrida, which is expected to debut later this year. Additionally, Fiat has confirmed that a new generation of the 500 will arrive in 2032, with production set to take place at their Mirafiori plant in Italy.

China’s iCar Is Making A Defender Twin For A Third Of The Price

  • Chery’s iCar SUV might look like a Land Rover, but it’s expected to be priced like a Dacia.
  • The expected price range of $28K-$34K make it a budget-friendly option in the 4×4 market.
  • It will likely feature a range-extender powertrain, combining gasoline and electric power.

It’s no secret that Chinese automakers have been stepping up their design game, but sometimes, their inspiration tends to come from, let’s just say, more familiar places than they’d probably admit. Chery’s fairly new iCar brand already offers a few intriguing models, and now it’s working on a 4×4 that looks suspiciously like a Land Rover Defender.

However, unlike the British icon, this one comes without the history or prestige, meaning it’ll be far more affordable. It’s also expected to launch as a range-extender EV, which, if you haven’t noticed, is the current industry fallback for “We wanted to go fully electric but weren’t quite ready.”

Read: Chery’s iCar Expands Its Lineup With Rugged Minivans And Tougher SUVs

While the name iCar might bring to mind Apple’s long-abandoned EV project, it has no connection whatsoever to the tech giant. That said, the Chery-owned brand hasn’t just borrowed Apple’s naming vibe, as it also seems eager to echo the design of another Western staple, the current Land Rover Defender, all while keeping some visual ties to its own lineup, like the X23.

Spy photos from China’s Autohome reveal a front fascia that closely mirrors the Land Rover Defender, featuring headlights and a grille design that look nearly identical. The prototype also sports a blacked-out bumper, black fender flares, and matching rocker panels, all contributing to its deliberately rugged appearance.

The similarities keep piling up along the sides. There are small black vents on the quarter panel and chunky door handles. One notable difference is the fact that the iCar’s side windows appear much larger than those of the Defender and they seem to sit slightly below the line of the windshield. So there’s that.

Autohome

At the rear, the prototype sports four square LED taillights. The third brake light has been positioned where you’d usually expect to find a spare wheel carrier, although for the iCar, it will likely serve as a small storage box.

Limited technical specifications are known about the model. However, Chery already has an impressive range-extender powertrain in its line-up that drives the Exlantix ET crossover and consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and two electric motors.

Familiar Face for a Fraction of the Cost

As for price, Chinese media outlets suggest a starting range between 200,000 yuan (around $27,600 at current exchange rates) and 250,000 yuan (roughly $34,500), making it significantly cheaper than anything coming out of Solihull. For comparison, the current Defender, the real one, starts from 688,000 yuan ($95,000), or more than three times the rumored price of the still-unnamed iCar SUV.

Polestar Faces Another Recall Over Growing Camera Glitch

  • The latest recall affects 3,665 Polestar 3 models in the United States due to a camera glitch.
  • Polestar said it’ll resolve the issue with an over-the-air software update for affected vehicles.
  • Volvo recently recalled over 400,000 vehicles in the U.S. for a similar rearview camera fault.

Just days after news broke that nearly 28,000 Polestar 2 EVs are being recalled in the United States for a faulty rearview camera, the 2025 Polestar 3 is now facing similar issues. Things could get particularly bad for the majority-owned Geely brand if the Polestar 4 is the next model to be recalled, as it famously doesn’t even have a rear window, meaning it solely relies on a camera.

Polestar says that the vehicle’s infotainment display does not show the rearview camera image by default when the SUV is placed in reverse. In addition, if the vehicle is traveling forward at less than 10 mph since it was last placed in reverse, a 3D/360 view is incorrectly displayed, as opposed to the rearview image.

More: Volvo Drivers Might Actually Have To Use Mirrors After Glitch Hits 413K Cars

Curiously, whereas Polestar recently specified the 2’s issue was due to a synchronization error between the Parking Assist Camera and the infotainment system, it hasn’t specified what the cause of the issue in the 3 is. What we do know is that it can be remedied with a simple over-the-air software update that is being readied.

The automaker was alerted to a potential issue on February 10, 2025, after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation alerted it to three allegations of rearview camera failures.

Polestar Faces Another Recall Over Growing Camera Glitch

In total, 3,665 Polestar 3 models are impacted by the recall. All of them were built between March 7, 2024, and April 23, 2025. Polestar says the software will be updated either by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 1, 2025.

Volvo is also dealing with some rearview camera issues of its own. It is recalling a total of 413,151 vehicles in the United States over a software issue that may prevent the image from being shown on the infotainment screen. Impacted models include the likes of the S60, V6, V60 Cross Country, S90, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC60, XC40, XC90, and C40.

Cybertruck Flips Over After Alleged Road Rage Attack

  • A Cybertruck flipped after allegedly being hit by a Ram pickup driver on a California highway.
  • The EV’s cameras recorded the entire incident, reportedly helping police charge the driver.
  • The Tesla driver avoided serious injury, and the totaled Cybertruck was later listed on Copart.

A Cybertruck driver recently found himself in a terrifying situation after what he claims was an aggressive move by another motorist on a California highway ended with his truck upside down. The incident occurred in broad daylight near Ukiah, and the entire event was captured by the Tesla’s onboard cameras.

The footage, later shared on YouTube by the Wham Baam Teslacam channel, shows how the crash unfolded. A black Ram 1500 overtakes the Cybertruck, then abruptly cuts into the right lane just ahead of it. Moments later, the Ram driver taps the brakes, prompting the Cybertruck driver to move left in an attempt to pass. That’s when things take a turn – literally.

More: BMW M4 Took A Wrong Turn Into The Mountain

The Ram swerves into the Tesla’s path, pulling off what appears to be an unintentional PIT maneuver that forces the Cybertruck off the highway. As it veers off the road, the slad-sided electric truck slams sideways into a ditch, causing it to roll over. While the truck lay upside down, its sensors detected the crash and automatically alerted emergency services. Fortunately, the driver wasn’t seriously injured, though he was taken to the hospital by ambulance after reporting back pain.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Copart

According to the Tesla owner, he had no prior interaction with the Ram driver, something he says is backed up by the footage he shared with police. After reviewing the video, the California Highway Patrol has reportedly charged the Ram driver with vehicular assault, though official confirmation from authorities has not been released publicly.

More: Cybertruck Was Just Charging Until Chaos Showed Up With A V8 And No Grip

The aftermath wasn’t kind to the Tesla. The truck sustained heavy damage to its roof, wheels, suspension, and body panels. It later appeared on Copart, looking far worse for wear. Some parts may be salvageable, but the cost of repairing such a heavily damaged vehicle likely outweighs any benefit. The driver is presumably seeking reimbursement through his insurance provider.

As for motive, nothing has been officially confirmed. However, the incident brings to mind other recent reports of road rage or hostility directed at Tesla drivers. Unlike the usual vandalism or minor clashes, though, this sort of encounter could have ended far more dangerously. With any luck, the Ram driver, if found responsible, will think twice before acting on impulse behind the wheel.

EU Just Gave Carmakers Exactly What They Asked For

  • EU delays car emissions deadline by averaging targets across 2025 to 2027
  • Auto industry warned original mandate could lead to €15 billion in fines.
  • 458 lawmakers voted in favor of amending the emissions reduction timeline.

As global carmakers juggle tightening regulations and international trade headaches, the European Union has thrown them a much-needed lifeline. The EU will ease upcoming CO2 emission standards following intense lobbying from major players in the automotive industry.

It’s a significant win for car manufacturers and comes at a time when they’re already dealing with the fallout from US President Trump’s tariffs and the broader effects those have had on global markets and supply chains.

Originally, the EU had proposed that European carmakers reduce their CO2 emissions by 15% by 2025 compared to 2021 levels. Automakers pushed back hard, calling the target unworkable and warning it could result in up to €15 billion (around $16.8 billion) in penalties. Under the current rules, companies must pay €95 (roughly $107) for every gram of CO2 over the limit, multiplied by each car sold—an equation that quickly adds up.

Read: Europe’s Carmakers Hike Gas Car Prices To Push EV Sales Harder Ahead Of New Mandates

Last month, the European Parliament’s executive presented an amendment more to the auto industry’s liking. Rather than basing emissions solely on 2025, it will average them out across 2025, 2026, and 2027. This will give car manufacturers more time to increase production of EVs to offset the ICE-powered models they continue to sell.

Politico reports that 458 members of the European Parliament voted in favor of the change compared to just 101 who voted against it and 14 who abstained. This key amendment will now be put into law.

EU Just Gave Carmakers Exactly What They Asked For

Changes Couldn’t Come Soon Enough

The reprieve should help European car brands massively at a time when they face fierce competition from new Chinese brands. However, not everyone is pleased with the change.

According to NGO Transport & Environment cars director Lucien Mathieu, local brands will now be able to take their foot off the gas in introducing new and innovative EVs.

“It’s ironic that the EU is delaying emissions targets for the car industry just as EV sales surge,” he said. “The boom is thanks to new, more affordable models that the carmakers launched to comply with the original EU target. This delay will allow the industry to take the foot off the gas for the EV roll-out while also slowing down investments.”

Kia Tasman Isn’t Done Yet And Big Changes Are Already In Motion

  • The Tasman is expected to gain hybrid and electric powertrains later in its lifecycle.
  • An upcoming facelift may take design cues from the Tasman Weekender Concept.
  • Kia says it plans to keep the pickup on the market for approximately 8 to 12 years.

Kia’s midsize truck, the Tasman, is just getting started and is expected to stick around for quite a while, according to a high-ranking company official. However, it won’t remain frozen in time. Along the way, it’ll see upgrades including, in all likelihood, a styling refresh and, more notably, hybrid and fully electric variants.

More: Kia Confirms First Midsize Pickup For America

The update comes via Roland Rivero, General Manager of Product Planning at Kia Australia. Speaking with CarExpert, Rivero described the Tasman’s ladder-frame chassis as a “fairly modular platform” that can accommodate “numerous powertrains.”

Hybrid and EV Versions on the Table

Depending on the market, the Tasman is currently offered with gasoline and diesel engines, but electrified versions are on the horizon. Rivero confirmed that Kia is actively “studying and reviewing” both hybrid and fully electric variants, though he stopped short of committing to a specific timeline for their launch.

Kia Tasman Isn’t Done Yet And Big Changes Are Already In Motion

One possible setup involves pairing the turbocharged 2.5-liter gasoline engine that’s available in the Korean market with a self-charging hybrid system, like what Hyundai is doing with the latest Palisade. Such a move could position the Tasman to compete directly with electrified midsize trucks like the BYD Shark and Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid.

As for the fully electric Tasman, expect a dual-motor setup providing all-wheel drive. This version would go up against the zero-emission trucks being developed by Toyota and Isuzu, including electric versions of the Hilux and D-Max.

Kia’s local head of Product Planning said the Tasman’s lifecycle will follow the typical pattern for light commercial vehicles, lasting “anywhere from 8 to 12 years.” To keep demand strong over that span, Kia plans to update and refine the midsize truck in a variety of ways.

Weekender Concept Shows What’s Possible

\\\\\\\\\

Some of those future styling updates might take cues from the recently revealed Tasman Weekender concept, which debuted at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. While Rivero emphasized that the Weekender is “just a concept” for now, he acknowledged that it could influence future updates, saying there’s “plenty of opportunity to enhance the Tasman” throughout its run.

More: New Kia Pickup Coming To America And It’s Nothing Like The Tasman

The concept gets wider, body-colored fenders, redesigned bumpers, a more pronounced hood, and chunkier tires over the production model. These could make their way into a tougher, off-road-oriented variant of the Tasman, a move in line with the growing popularity of factory-built rugged trucks, led by models like the Ford Ranger Raptor.

In any case, it appears that Kia has plenty of ideas about the future of the truck, enhancing its presence as a newcomer in this competitive segment. Until a facelift arrives, owners of the Tasman can rely on the numerous available accessories, tailored for different use-case scenarios.

GM Just Crushed Dreams Of A Corvette-Based Cadillac

  • GM boss Mark Reuss says a new Cadillac XLR doesn’t align with their brand strategy.
  • A modern Cadillac XLR would reportedly share too much with the Corvette platform.
  • Cadillac Celestiq deliveries are expected to begin soon after long software-related delays.

The Cadillac XLR is nearly 20 years old, but it’s still fondly remembered today. While it wasn’t perfect, the idea of transforming a Corvette into a luxurious flagship to battle the best Germany has to offer still packs plenty of appeal.

That’s especially true now that the Corvette moved to a mid-engine layout. This would seemingly make a new XLR a perfect addition to Cadillac’s lineup, and a V-Series variant based on the 1,064 hp (793 kW / 1,079 PS) ZR1 would be wonderfully insane.

More: Cadillac’s Opulent Velocity Concept Is The Electric Hypercar Of The Future

Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen as GM President Mark Reuss recently told CNBC that a modern-day XLR wouldn’t mesh with Cadillac’s brand strategy. It calls on vehicles to share platforms with mainstream brands, but be truly unique thanks to bold designs, special interiors, and additional changes.

GM Just Crushed Dreams Of A Corvette-Based Cadillac

While the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon have a lot in common, the luxury SUV feels like its own vehicle thanks to an exclusive cabin. It features a 55-inch pillar-to-pillar display as well as an available Executive Second Row package, which adds a rear center console with a digital command center, dual wireless smartphone chargers, and retractable tray tables. Buyers can also get the Escalade-V, which has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 developing 682 hp (508 kW / 691 PS) and 653 lb-ft (885 Nm) of torque.

A modern-day XLR, on the other hand, would have reportedly been too much like the Corvette. As Reuss explained, “It was developed as a secondary car to the Corvette” and “we would never do that” now.

Celestiq Is Being Relaunched, Despite Never Launching

\\\\\\\\\\\\

Michael Gauthier / Carscoops

The Cadillac Celestiq debuted in 2022, but you’ve probably never seen one. That’s not surprising, as it still hasn’t been delivered to customers. Production was expected to begin in December of 2023, with deliveries set for the following year. As part of the preparations for launch, we visited Cadillac House in 2024 and were told the Celestiq has attracted “many” customers.

Hopefully, they’re a patient bunch as Reuss told the publication “We didn’t want to execute the car without everything being perfect on the software front.” He added they’re “relaunching the car.”

That’s a disappointing return to the ultra-luxury segment, but the first customer deliveries will reportedly begin by the middle of the year. Interestingly, if the model proves successful, it could reportedly spawn a line of hand-built vehicles. This suggests the well-received Sollei concept could eventually go into production.

Cadillac Primed For Success, But Still Isn’t The Standard Of The World

GM Just Crushed Dreams Of A Corvette-Based Cadillac

While several luxury brands are in a bind due to Trump’s tariffs, Cadillac could benefit as most of its vehicles are made in the United States. The CT4 and CT5 are made at Lansing Grand River Assembly in Michigan, while the Celestiq and Escalade IQ are built in Detroit (or nearby). The standard Escalade is made in Texas, while the Lyriq and Vistiq call Tennessee home.

One of the few models made outside of the United States is the Optiq that’s built at the Ramos Arizpe Assembly plant in Mexico.

Cadillac has made a lot of progress in the past few years, but there’s still room for improvement. Reuss acknowledged as much as he said the brand was not the ‘standard of the world’ and “still isn’t.” However, he contends the “vision is there and it’s pretty clear.”

Which New Stellantis Compact SUV Would You Actually Buy?

  • Stellantis’ four compact SUVs share a platform but diverge in design, tech, and target markets.
  • The Jeep Compass, Citroen C5, Opel Grandland, Peugeot 3008 and 5008 face off in a styling duel.

Stellantis isn’t just a car company; it’s a continent-spanning brand collective with a habit of churning out crossovers like a bakery pumps out croissants. With names from Italy, France, Germany, and the US under its belt, it’s no surprise that many of its mainstream models share bones beneath the surface. That includes its latest crop of compact SUVs, which use common underpinnings while each clings to its own visual identity in a crowded, hyper-competitive segment.

More: Which European Car Should Stellantis Import Or Rebadge For America?

Among these mechanically-linked cousins, Jeep, Citroen, Opel, and Peugeot each toss their hat into the ring with subtly different flavors, all aiming for the same buyers and the same wallets. On paper, they have more in common than not, but visually there’s enough variation to make a side-by-side design comparison worthwhile.

Thus, we lined them up and now it’s your turn to tell us which one you’d actually want in your driveway. Even if it’s theoretical since most of you won’t get the chance, as Europe is the only region where all of them are currently on sale.

The Compact Contenders

\\\\\

The contenders include the newly revealed Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross, Opel Grandland, and the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. In the future, they should be joined by the DS No7, which will replace the current DS7. While earlier generations of the European models rode on the PSA-era EMP2 platform, the Jeep is the newcomer to this shared architecture, having recently moved from its old FCA roots to the STLA Medium platform.

As mentioned, none of these SUVs are currently sold in the US. The Compass might eventually cross the Atlantic, but Jeep is still “assessing the situation,” which is just a polite way of saying “we’re waiting to see how messy the trade tariffs get” as the company has paused work at the Canadian plant it was supposed to build the North American version.

As mentioned, none of these SUVs are currently offered in the US. The Compass has the best shot at making the jump, but Jeep is still “assessing the situation” – which is the polite way of saying they’re waiting to see just how messy the trade tariffs get. In the meantime, the company has paused work at the Canadian plant that was originally set to build the North American version.

Same Platform, Different Personalities

\\\\\

All five SUVs ride on the same platform but feature different bodywork. The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 are the only ones that look like twins from the front, while the others keep their sheet metal to themselves. That gave designers enough freedom to inject some brand DNA, even if the proportions are dictated by the shared architecture.

Front-end design is where the Jeep leans hard into its off-road roots, with a squared-up face, seven-slot grille, and thick plastic cladding. The Citroen goes the other way, aiming for futuristic with split headlights and decorative intakes that do more looking than actually breathing.

Peugeot’s models take the sporty route, wearing slim headlights and sharp LED “claws” that stretch into the grille. Opel’s Grandland plays it conservative, wearing the brand’s “Vizor” face that’s more subtle, though definitely modern.

\\\\\

Side profiles offer more variety. Jeep stays on-brand with boxy fenders and trapezoidal arches, giving it the most “adventure-ready” stance. Peugeot gives the 3008 a coupe-style roofline, making it the swoopier of the bunch, while the 5008 keeps it upright for max cargo space. The Citroen C5 Aircross adds curves and quirky details, staying true to its contrarian reputation, while Opel again plays it safe. The Grandland’s shark-fin D-pillar is its one standout flourish.

Size Matters (Kind Of)

When it comes to dimensions, the Peugeot 5008 is the big boy of this comparison, measuring 4,791 mm (188.6 inches), placing it in Europe’s (mid-size) D-SUV territory with rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota RAV4.

Citroen’s C5 Aircross and the Opel Grandland are nearly the same length, at around 4,652 mm (183.1 inches), which positions them squarely in the upper end of the C-SUV segment, roomy enough for families but still city-friendly. Bringing up the rear in length are the Compass and 3008, clocking in at 4,550 mm (179.1 inches) and 4,540 mm (178.7 inches) respectively. They’re compact, but not cramped.

Rear Design and Cabin Differences

\\\\\

From the back, the Citroen arguably stands out the most, thanks to LED taillights that jut out like sci-fi fins. The Peugeot 3008, again, plays the sporty card with a sloping roof and spoiler, and it shares its sharp taillights with the taller, boxier 5008.

Interestingly, the Grandland’s rear design is arguably its strongest angle, as was the case with the previous generation. And Jeep? The latest Compass finally brings something modern to the table, improving significantly on its outdated predecessor.

More: Citroen Just Put The Biggest Screen Ever In A Stellantis Model

That brings us to the interior design, where things get surprisingly varied. Each SUV takes a different approach to the digital cockpit, offering its own interpretation of modern tech. The most distinctive setup belongs to Peugeot’s iCockpit, featuring a curved display, a compact steering wheel, and center console details that lean into a light sci-fi aesthetic.

Citroen claims the title for largest screen in any Stellantis vehicle, with a 13-inch portrait touchscreen perched on the dash, flanked by their signature plush “Advanced Comfort” seats. Opel’s cabin is similarly spacious, though the design is more reserved. Jeep adds some flair with metallic trim and unique textures, but keeps the layout simple and user-friendly.

\\\\\

Under the Hood: Shared DNA

All five SUVs share the same foundation, so there’s no need to dig too deep. They’re all built on the STLA Medium architecture and offer a range of powertrains for European buyers, including mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric options.

Entry-level versions come with a mild-hybrid setup built around a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine. The plug-in hybrids step things up with a larger 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, paired with a more powerful electric motor and a bigger battery pack. Fully electric models offer either single- or dual-motor configurations, along with two battery choices depending on range and performance needs.

BMW’s Baby M SUV Might Be Lurking Under This iX3

  • Several pre-production prototypes of the 2026 BMW iX3 were spotted in the wild.
  • The latest batch of spy shots reveals the final lighting signature of the electric SUV.
  • BMW’s first Neue Klasse offering will be revealed this fall at the Munich Auto Show.

Update: With its world debut now confirmed for this September at the Munich Motor Show, BMW is putting the finishing touches on the new iX3. The electric SUV has been in development for quite some time, and the latest images from Nurburgring testing show the prototype fitted with what appear to be the finalized headlight and taillight designs.

More: BMW’s New EVs Come With 43 Layers Of Synthetic Vroom And Zero Shame

One of the test vehicles caught by our spy photographers was fitted with wheels that resemble those from the Vision Neue Klasse sedan concept. It’s still unclear whether these are standard alloys or aero-style covers, but the more pronounced side skirts and bulkier front bumper point to this tester being the M Performance variant, similar to the electric iX M50 or the current gas-powered X3 M50

This sportier version of the iX3 is expected to feature a dual-motor setup and will probably retain the M50 badge. Beyond the upgraded powertrain and more aggressive exterior styling, it’s expected to feature an M-tuned chassis with a firmer, lower suspension and drive modes tailored specifically for performance.

More: 2026 BMW iX3 Neue Klasse Renders Patents Into Reality

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Previously, our photographers also spotted a pre-production prototype of the upcoming BMW iX3 Neue Klasse SUV not long after it rolled off the line at the automaker’s plant in Hungary. The fully electric model is now undergoing final-stage development tests ahead of its planned market launch towards the end of 2025.

The BMW iX3 Neue Klasse made its spy debut in November 2023, but early prototypes featured provisional lighting units. The new prototype is fitted with the production headlights and taillights, revealing a modern LED lighting signature. This was the last missing piece of the puzzle, as the bodywork of the SUV has already been uncovered in recent patent drawings.

What’s Up With The Frunk?

The new prototype was also spotted with its hood open. While the BMW iX3 doesn’t appear to have a frunk, as the front space is currently packed with drivetrain hardware, this setup might just be a cover in both the literal and figurative sense, acting as a placeholder for testing. The final production model will in all likelihood include front storage, similar to what’s found in other EVs.

We can also see the iX3’s pop-out door handles, which are less futuristic than the fin-shaped solution of the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. Judging from earlier spy shots, these will likely find their way into the larger iX5.

The wheels of the prototype suggest that this is one of the lesser versions of the BMW iX3. Our spy photographers suggest that the wheel diameter of the production model will be between 18 inches and 22 inches depending on the trim. The larger size will likely be reserved for the performance-focused offering by BMW M.

Neue Klasse, First of Many

The new BMW iX3 will be the first production model to adopt the Neue Klasse styling language before it gets applied to the automaker’s entire range of combustion and electric models. The iX3 will be followed by the i3 sedan, the similarly-sized 3-Series, and the new generation of the X5/iX5, which are set to debut in the coming years.

Under the skin, the Neue Klasse platform supports a new generation of lighter and more efficient electric motors. The iX3 will launch with single and dual-motor configurations, with output expected to range from around 300 to 600 horsepower. It will also feature 800V electrical architecture for faster charging and house next-generation batteries that are 20% more energy-dense, boosting range and efficiency by up to 30%. In its top configuration, the iX3 could travel as far as 800 kilometers, or about 500 miles, on a full charge.

Series production of the Neue Klasse-based iX3 is scheduled to begin later in the second half of 2025.

Hyundai Fixed His ICCU Then Let Thieves Total The Rest Before He Even Saw It

  • A Hyundai Ioniq 5 sat unrepaired for weeks due to ICCU failure and parts shortage.
  • Thieves stole the EV from the dealer, fled police, and crashed it into a church.
  • Insurance declared vehicle totaled leaving the owner concerned about financial losses.

Sometimes your car just breaks. Other times, it breaks, sits for two months, gets stolen, wrecked, and leaves you holding the bag. This is the story of how one Hyundai Ioniq 5 owner’s unlucky repair turned into a cautionary tale about EV parts, dealership security, and what happens when everything goes wrong at once.

On March 16, nearly two months ago, Massachusetts resident Ethan Blount’s Hyundai Ioniq 5 abruptly stopped working. The culprit was the ICCU, a part already known for causing problems in the Ioniq 5 lineup. It failed, leaving Blount stranded, and he had the car towed to his local dealership.

More: Huge Study Shows EVs More Reliable Than ICE Cars With One Surprising Common Issue

At the time, he had no idea it would be the last time he’d see the vehicle in one piece. On May 2, the car was stolen from the dealership. When police eventually located it and gave chase, the situation ended with the Hyundai totaled and Blount left underwater.

A Part With a Pattern of Failure

But let’s rewind. The ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) plays a central role in the Ioniq 5’s electrical system. It manages the bi-directional charging between the 12V battery and the main high-voltage battery, which is responsible for powering essential systems, external devices, and even other EVs.

When it fails, the result is a completely immobilized vehicle. Dozens of Ioniq 5 owners have reported similar failures. In Blount’s case, the delay in repair came down to a parts shortage, with replacements on back order. So his EV sat, unusable and unguarded, for almost two months.

He tells The Autopian that he knew about the ICCU and suspected it immediately when he heard a loud pop. “I got only a mile or so before power started dropping precipitously, and pulled off the main road just in time. I contacted Hyundai and they dispatched a tow truck, taking my car to the nearest dealer,” says Ethan.

A Strange Notification, Then Silence

Then, on May 1, he received a notification via his Hyundai mobile app that the car was left on and idling. Good news, he thought, since it couldn’t do that without being fixed. The next day, everything fell apart. The dealer called and confirmed that the car was fixed but, strangely, they couldn’t find it.

Ethan whipped out his phone and tracked the car. It was in Boston, nowhere near the dealership. He called the police who tried to move in and secure the car, but clearly that didn’t work. The occupants sped off in it, ultimately lost control a short time later, hit a fire hydrant, and then smashed into a church. The impact was such that the Ioniq 5 was seriously damaged. The airbags all deployed, and the front is completely smashed in.

Boston police arrested three people at the scene, but they’ve left Blount in a tough spot. “Due to the rapid depreciation of the car I’m worried about what I will be offered by my insurance company since they declared it totaled today,” he said. “I fear I could end up still owing money and not even owning a car.”

In a positive turn though, Hyundai reached out to him two days ago, promising to help. Perhaps this entire saga will end up with the happy ending Blount clearly wants.

This EV Track Monster Weighs Less Than A Miata And Charges Before Your Coffee’s Ready

  • Baltasar’s Revolt R concept is a lightweight, all-electric track car with aero upgrades.
  • Twin rear electric motors produce a combined 500 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque.
  • The Spanish company says the high-voltage battery charges to 80% in just five minutes.

It’s not every day a tiny Spanish automaker drops an electric track weapon with supercar specs and charging speeds that put your phone to shame. You may not have heard the name Baltasar before, but that’s about to change, at least if you keep tabs on niche electric sports cars.

The company just revealed the latest version of its Revolt track car, the R Concept, at the Automobile Barcelona show. It follows a familiar recipe, combining ultra-lightweight construction with a sharp focus on aerodynamics. However, unlike most track-day specials, it is all-electric.

Read: Xiaomi-Backed $41K EV Looks Like A Tesla Roadster Hooked Up With A Lancia

As is pretty obvious from its name, the R Concept is a more potent and aggressive version of the standard Revolt. It’s hand-built with a carbon fiber monocoque and includes a chromoly steel roll cage that meets FIA specs. Suspension parts are a mix of carbon fiber, aluminum, and Kevlar, all in the name of weight savings. The end result is a curb weight of under 800 kg (1,763 lbs). For comparison, a US.-spec Mazda MX-5 Miata weighs 273 kg (601 lbs) more, coming in at 1,073 kg (2,366 lbs).

Baltasar hasn’t revealed powertrain specs for the R yet, but it likely uses the same setup introduced with the original Revolt back in 2021. That car featured two rear-mounted electric motors delivering a combined 500 horsepower and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque.

Baltasar

Battery capacity remains a mystery, but the R reportedly uses a 700-volt electrical architecture. For context, the standard model offers a driving range of over 300 miles (482 km), and Baltasar claims an 80% recharge takes just five minutes.

Several key aerodynamic upgrades have been made to the Revolt R, which makes sense given its track-only focus. At the front, it gets a new splitter, updated headlights, and reshaped front quarter panels. Around the back, there’s a towering carbon fiber rear wing that leaves no doubt about the car’s intentions. It’s also been shown with gold-painted wheels wrapped in slick tires, completing the track-ready look.

While full interior photos haven’t been released, Baltasar has shown a few key details. The car features a carbon fiber racing seat and distinctive gold pedals, both clearly built with track performance in mind.

Pricing hasn’t been finalized, and there’s no official launch date yet, but Baltasar says to expect the Revolt R to start at around €450,000 or around $510,000 at current exchange rates when it goes on sale.

Faraday Future Lost $44 Million And Only Delivered Two Cars In Q1

  • Faraday Future had a dismal first quarter as they only delivered two units of its FF 91 EV.
  • The company made a paltry $300,000 in revenue and posted an operating loss of $43.8 million.
  • Despite claims of 1,300 pre-orders for the Super One van, only three of them are binding.

Faraday Future has big plans including a new mainstream FX brand. It’s expected to offer an assortment of vehicles including a Super One minivan, an FX 6 crossover, and an entry-level FX 5 that costs between $20,000 and $30,000.

That’s a lot of new product, but Faraday Future doesn’t exactly have the best track record. On top of that, they’ve released their first quarter financial results, which paint a concerning picture.

More: Faraday X Super One Minivan Teased With A Big Honkin’ Grille

How bad? In the first quarter, the company delivered a grand total of two cars. That’s less than one per month, but it didn’t stop the automaker from proclaiming they expanded their “client base” and officially entered the East Coast market thanks to a delivery in New York.

That’s some glass half full thinking and things only get worse from there. Given dismal sales of the FF 91, the company only generated $300,000 (£225,576 / €266,712) in revenue from deliveries and leases.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Faraday continues to hemorrhage money. While the press release didn’t mention their net loss, it was buried in their financial presentation and totaled over $10.2 (£7.7 / €9.2) million. However, it’s $43.8 (£33.2 / €39.5) million operating loss is more eye-catching.

\\\\\\\\\\

Those are some bleak numbers and their release had more warnings than a five alarm fire. These included the company’s “history of losses and expectation of continued losses” as well as risks related to operations in China.

Faraday Future did reiterate some good news including a pre-order agreement for 1,000 FX Super One vans from JC Auto. However, the forward looking statement burst that bubble as it noted the true number “may be as few as two.”

Likewise, the previously announced pre-order deal with Sky Horse Auto for 300 MPVs could be “as few as one.” On the bright side, their $30,000 (£22,550 / €26,658) deposit was non-refundable and that’s big money for a firm like Faraday.

This Retro Revival Took 3D Printers And A Whole Lot Of Patience

  • Scout Motors has provided a glimpse at an early mockup for the Traveler SUV.
  • 3D-printed parts helped designers perfect every surface, angle, and detail by hand.
  • The SUV launches in 2027 with electric and gas-extended range drivetrain options.

Redesigning an iconic model is an incredibly difficult task as there’s a lot of history, anticipation, and pressure. It’s a feeling that Mustang designers know all too well, but there are plenty of other models with high-stakes including the Bronco, Charger, and Mercedes G-Class.

We’d also throw Scout into that category, but their situation is drastically different. The last International Harvester Scout was built on October 21, 1980 and marked the end of an era as over 500,000 had been made over the course of the preceding two decades.

More: Meet The New Scout Terra Truck And Traveler SUV

While Scout had become a distant memory, Volkswagen revived the brand and, thankfully, decided to embrace its roots. As part of this effort, they wanted a retro-inspired design that acknowledged the past but was still modern.

That’s easier said than done and the company recently revealed “bringing back an icon doesn’t happen overnight.” They went on to say the Traveler and Terra started as a “blank sheet of paper” and the design team obsessed over every curve, angle, beltline, and radius.

\\\\\\\\\

Photos Scout

While that’s to be expected, the company also used modern production methods to ensure the models were perfect. As part of this effort, 3D-printed parts played a role in making sure the vehicles were the best they could be. As Scout explained, the end result is “Not rushed. Not generic. Not a box.”

You can add not coming anytime soon as production isn’t slated to begin until 2027. However, when they arrive, pricing could start as low as $50,000 with incentives.

Scout hasn’t revealed many specifications, but electric variants are slated to offer a range of up to 350 miles (563 km). There will also be an extended range variant with a gas-powered generator.

Cybertruck Was Just Charging Until Chaos Showed Up With A V8 And No Grip

  • Dodge Charger driver loses control while doing donuts near Tesla Supercharger station in NY.
  • Tesla Model Y owner records entire crash after suspecting reckless behavior from Charger driver.
  • Video shows Dodge leaking fluids post-impact, while Cybertruck appears largely unscathed.

Charging an electric vehicle can sometimes be a really peaceful experience. Some models even offer the ability to watch TV or play games during the process. One Cybertruck owner had that peace ruined recently when a Dodge Charger driver lost control and rammed his pickup. It just so happens that another Tesla owner caught the entire situation on camera too.

The situation unfolded at the Destiny USA mall in Syracuse, New York. There, a Model Y owner says that the folks in the Dodge nearly hit him. “I was out for a walk when I nearly got hit by these [explicit]. A moment later, I heard their engine rev and I KNEW they were going to do something stupid. So I started recording,” he wrote on Reddit.

More: No One Knows Where This Tire Came From, But It Ripped Through A Mercedes Roof Anyway

He couldn’t have been more correct about his assertion. Despite having an expansive parking lot at their disposal, the driver of this Charger R/T begins a donut relatively close to nearby Teslas charging at a Supercharger station. He gets quite a slide going, complete with some opposite lock, too. When he straightens out, things go sideways in a more metaphorical sense, though.

First, he drives over a calming island near the parking lot entrance. For whatever reason, it’s only after clearing the island that he engages his brakes. Video shows that despite his brakes being on, the car has enough momentum to carry it into the next calming island on the other side of the entrance. When he hits that, the front end flies up and off the ground. Ultimately, the car comes back to earth and keeps rolling until it hits the driver’s side of the Cybertruck.

Video Reddit

It’s clear from the video that the Dodge is not okay after the crash. Smoke is billowing from the front rather than from the rear tires. Part of the undercarriage protection is on the ground, and there is debris all over the lot, though it could be organic rather than bits of Mopar left behind. That said, the Cybertruck looks great for having just been hit by a car, even at a slow speed.

According to the Reddit post, the crash left motor oil and transmission fluid leaking out onto the ground. Meanwhile, the Cybertruck owner got out to check the damage and apparently found… none. “The truck looked completely fine!” the poster added. Safe to say, the Dodge driver got a little more Cybertruck than they bargained for.

Tesla’s Chinese-Made Cars Just Got Steamrolled As Rivals Soar

  • Tesla sold 58,459 China-built Model 3 and Model Y vehicles globally in April.
  • Tesla exports vehicles from China to regions like Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
  • Nio, Xpeng, and Xiaomi all posted substantial year-over-year sales increases.

Tesla’s massive factory in Shanghai, China, has the capacity to build roughly 1 million vehicles every year. However, it could fall quite short of that number this year based on disappointing sales figures of its Chinese-made models in April, which slipped 25.8% from the month prior.

The China Passenger Car Association revealed that a total of 58,459 Tesla Model 3s and Model Ys built in China were sold last month. Importantly, this figure isn’t a reflection of the total number of vehicles that Tesla sold in China alone, but also includes other markets where it sells Shanghai-built vehicles, including Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Read: Tesla Sales Crash Over 80% In Sweden And That’s Just The Beginning

This is just the latest episode of Tesla’s sales drop saga in recent days. In April, its sales collapsed in key European markets like Spain, Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and the UK. Its sales have also tanked in Australia, where, not too long ago, it was the EV leader. In April, seven other EV models from Chinese and Korean brands outsold the Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3.

Rivals Are Closing In

Many factors at play can help to explain why Tesla sales continue to fall. Obviously, negative public sentiment about chief executive Elon Musk is one of them, particularly due to his meddling in politics, not just in the US but around the world as well. Additionally, Tesla has a relatively limited and aging line-up of EVs compared to some of its competitors, with the Model 3 and Model Y being the serious volume sellers.

Rivals are also quickly gaining ground on the American brand. In April, Nio’s sales grew 53% from a year ago, with 23,900 vehicles sold. Additionally, Xpeng recorded its second-best month ever, securing 35,045 sales. Xiaomi also managed to deliver more than 28,000 vehicles in April while Li Auto’s sales rose 32% to 33,939.

AMG’s First Super Sedan Looks Ready To Fire Off Its 1,000-HP

  • Mercedes-AMG electric sedan shares styling cues with the 2022 Vision AMG Concept.
  • Sleek design includes unique LED lighting, spoked aero wheels, and active rear wing.
  • Combustion-powered AMG GT 4-Door will continue alongside new all-electric flagship.

Mercedes-AMG has stripped away some of the body cladding and camouflage of its long-awaited electric sedan, giving us our best look at the car yet. The car will push AMG into a new market and serve as a rival to the likes of the Porsche Taycan and Audi RS e-tron GT. So, is it worth getting excited about?

These new teasers show a prototype with a sleek and low-slung design that shares unmistakable similarities with the Mercedes Vision AMG Concept from three years ago. Like that car, the new electric sedan from Affalterbach has striking LED daytime running lights mimicking the shape of the Three Pointed Star. Similar DRLs are featured on the new CLA and will be added to other new Mercedes models, but AMG has enlarged them for this car.

Read: AMG’s New V8 Isn’t Just Coming Back It’s Coming For Everything

There’s no sign of a traditional front grille, although we can see some slats towards the base of the bumper that will provide some cooling.

The side profile of the car is certifiably sexy and has been paired beautifully with tightly-spoked wheels that should also aid in aerodynamic performance. At the rear, this prototype ditches the ugly temporary lights of other recent testers and gets a pair of circular LED taillights, which again have the star motif. There will also be an active rear wing.

\\\\\

The Good Stuff

While both the Taycan and RS e-tron GT represented dramatic departures for both Porsche and Audi, both cars are excellent, and AMG had better be at the top of its game to make a compelling rival to them. All the signs point towards it being just that.

Underpinning the all-electric cousin to the AMG GT 4-Door will be the new AMG.EA architecture with a battery pack from Sila Nanotechnologies in the US and electric motors from British firm Yasa. Mercedes-AMG is reportedly pursuing a four-digit horsepower figure, giving it enough power to compete with the flagship Taycan and RS e-tron GT models.

Fortunately for those who still want a thunderous engine, Mercedes-AMG will continue to sell this new EV alongside the ICE-powered AMG GT 4-Door.

VW Is Making A New GTI, But Not The One We Want

  • VW is preparing a 335 hp rear-drive ID.3 GTI to launch sometime next year.
  • It will slot above the GTX Performance with minor power and chassis upgrades.
  • Pricing in Europe is likely to exceed that of both the Golf GTI and Clubsport trims.

Volkswagen isn’t wasting time signaling that the GTI nameplate won’t be left behind in the EV transition. The German automaker dropped a pretty clear hint when it rolled out the ID. GTI Concept at the 2023 Munich Motor Show. While that concept was aimed at previewing the upcoming ID.2 GTI, signs now point to an ID.3 GTI being next in line.

According to a report from Auto Motor und Sport, the car will slot above the ID.3 GTX Performance, which features a 79 kWh battery pack and an electric motor developing 322 hp (240 kW / 326 PS) and 402 lb-ft (545 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the hot hatch to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.7 seconds and have a WLTP range of up to 373 miles (602 km).

More: VW ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice Is A Hot Electric Hatch That Pays Tribute To The Past

While little is known about the GTI variant at this point, the publication says it will arrive next year and be rear-wheel drive. However, don’t expect it to be significantly more powerful than the ID.3 GTX Performance.

Quite the opposite as they suggest the car could only have around 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS). That’s not much of a boost, but the upgraded powertrain could be accompanied by “extensive modifications to the chassis … intended to enable even more agile handling.”

\\\\\\\\\\\\

Besides the performance and handling tweaks, the car would likely incorporate a number of GTI styling cues. The hot hatch should also build on the ID.3 GTX Performance, which has revised steering, a retuned suspension, and an available DCC adaptive chassis system.

All of this will likely lead to steep pricing as the ID.3 GTX Performance starts at €48,725 ($54,706) in Germany. To put that into perspective, the Golf GTI starts at €45,655 ($51,255) while the GTI Clubsport begins at €49,225 ($55,263).
