The next iteration of the Xpeng P7, previously known under the internal code name E29. had landed. The first official images released by the Chinese automaker reveal a striking new sedan that looks far more distinctive than Xpeng’s current lineup, which is a refreshing change considering how many electric vehicles these days blend into the same uninspired mold.

Designed by Rafik Ferrag, who also crafted the original P7, the front end of this new model seems to borrow a bit of design inspiration from the Lamborghini Revuelto and the local Honda S7. The fascia is dominated by sideways Y-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs) and a thin light bar, with the main headlamps nestled just below it. We can also see that the Xpeng badge up front is illuminated.

The fastback-style shape of the P7 is hard to miss, and the retractable rear spoiler only adds to its dynamic appearance. At the back, thin LED strips complement the front lights, giving the car a unified, contemporary look. Xpeng described the new model as “a bold, emotional, and athletic 5-seater coupe that raises the bar in both aesthetics and performance.”

This model may also mark the debut of Xpeng’s new Kunpeng EV platform, which could have the versatility to support range-extender options, though the company has yet to confirm any technical details. For now, it’s expected that the P7 will launch exclusively as an EV, potentially offering power and range figures similar to, or slightly better than, the P7+. That could mean up to 466 hp (348 kW) with dual motors, and a CTLC range surpassing 435 miles (700 km).

While Xpeng hasn’t shared any official interior teasers yet, spy shots circulating in China suggest it will feature a large central infotainment screen, as well as light purple leather seats. The P7 may also introduce a simplified vision-based advanced driver assistance system, in contrast to other Xpeng models that include LiDAR technology.

Dimensions for the car have yet to be published, but it looks longer than a Tesla Model 3, even if the American EV will be one of its prime competitors alongside Xiaomi’s popular SU7. Autohome reports that it’s expected to be unveiled in the third quarter of the year during the Guangzhou Auto Show, but we should get to see it in better detail earlier than that, thanks to China’s trusty Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Pricing and Availability

At this stage, Xpeng is referring to it as the next P7, although Chinese media reports suggest the company has secured the “P7 Ultra” name. Regardless of the final name, the car is expected to go on sale toward the end of the year, with pricing anticipated to be similar to the current model, which starts at around 250,000 yuan (roughly $35,000). That’s slightly higher than the entry-level Tesla Model 3, which begins at 215,900 yuan.

Mitsubishi is preparing to launch a new fully electric SUV designed specifically for the European market, and, surprise, it’s bringing back the Eclipse Cross name. Set to debut in September ahead of its 2025 release, this electric model will be based on Renault Scenic E-Tech and marks the next step in the growing collaboration between the two brands in Europe.

The new Eclipse Cross will join a roster of Renault-derived electrified models, including the Colt (based on the Clio), the ASX (built on the Captur), and the Grandis (which is actually a rebadged Renault Symbioz). Of course, Mitsubishi is also working on its own projects, like the self-developed Outlander SUV.

A Familiar Design with Subtle Tweaks

So far, the only official glimpse of the new Eclipse Cross shows us a few design details, such as the wheels, grille patterns, flush door handles, and some badges on the tailgate. Earlier teasers hinted at a unique lighting signature to set it apart from its Renault twin. The EV was crafted with input from Mitsubishi’s design team in Germany, incorporating the next evolution of the brand’s Dynamic Shield front-end design.

As for the cabin, Mitsubishi promises a spacious and versatile setup that’s perfect for families. Based on the Renault Scenic, expect a two-row, five-seat configuration with a 545-liter (19.2 cubic feet) boot. The interior will also feature Google built-in infotainment and an advanced suite of driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Powertrains and Variants: What to Expect

Initially, the next Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will launch with a long-range variant, with a mid-range version slated to follow in 2026. These versions will likely mirror the specifications of the Renault Scenic E-Tech, which offers 60 kWh and 87 kWh battery options. Powertrains will include a single-motor setup with 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) and a dual-motor version with 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS).

The new model will compete in the compact SUV segment (C-SUV), which is the largest in Europe. Production will be carried over by Renault at the Ampere Electricity facility in Douai, France, right next to the Scenic E-Tech.

The North American Future and a Lingering Question

Mitsubishi has also confirmed it will launch another electric crossover for North America in the summer of 2026. This will be based on the upcoming Nissan Leaf and will be slightly smaller than the European Eclipse Cross.

The original Eclipse Cross, which has been around since 2017, received a mid-cycle refresh in 2020. However, with the internal combustion engine version nearing the end of its life cycle, the fate of the nameplate outside of Europe is still up in the air.

Opel has announced that its GSE sub-brand for performance models will go fully electric, abandoning its previous route of plug-in hybrid powertrains. The first model of this new era will be the Mokka GSE, which is expected to debut later this year.

Introduced in 2022, Opel and Vauxhall’s GSE performance sub-brand initially included electrified models with plug-in hybrid powertrains. The Astra hatchback, Astra Sports Tourer estate, and Grandland SUV all received GSE versions, featuring a sharper chassis setup and more dynamic performance. However, starting this year, the GSE name will be rebranded with a fresh logo and applied exclusively to fully electric vehicles.

What Does GSE Really Stand For?

According to Opel, G stands for Grand, German engineering, goosebumps, great grip and G-forces, S stands for Sport, speed, sweat and sliding through S-curves, while E stands for Electric, excitement, exhilaration and euphoria. German humor at its finest.

The GSE models will sport a more aggressive look and feature an upgraded chassis setup that aims to “directly integrate the driver” and offer “exciting driving pleasure.” According to the company, these performance EVs are designed to be “stable when braking, cornering, and at high speeds on the Autobahn.” So, don’t expect any track-focused beasts, it’s more about sharp handling on real-world roads.

Details about the electric powertrains haven’t been shared yet, so it’s unclear whether there will be significant improvements in that area.

The Mokka GSE: A Sneak Peek

The Mokka will be the first model to wear the GSE badge, with a market launch scheduled for 2025. The small SUV is expected to follow a similar performance path as the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, producing up to 278 horsepower (207 kW / 280 PS) from a single electric motor mounted on the front axle.

A teaser image shows the Mokka GSE will likely feature special decals, along with redesigned bumpers, larger alloy wheels, and brake calipers finished in a striking yellow. Note that the current generation Mokka was introduced in 2020 and received a mild facelift in 2024.

Judging from recent spy shots, the Grandland is also expected to gain the GSE moniker, with similar styling and chassis upgrades.

Opel has also launched an “OMG! GSE” campaign, designed to communicate the feeling of driving one of their new electric performance models for the first time. CEO Florian Huettl stated: “The GSE sub-brand stands for particularly dynamic, exhilarating, and emotional Opel models. In 2025, we will take the next important step. The new GSE models will be fully electric. This demonstrates how powerful, exciting, and inspiring battery-electric mobility can be.”

Mercedes-AMG has stripped away some of the body cladding and camouflage of its long-awaited electric sedan, giving us our best look at the car yet. The car will push AMG into a new market and serve as a rival to the likes of the Porsche Taycan and Audi RS e-tron GT. So, is it worth getting excited about?

These new teasers show a prototype with a sleek and low-slung design that shares unmistakable similarities with the Mercedes Vision AMG Concept from three years ago. Like that car, the new electric sedan from Affalterbach has striking LED daytime running lights mimicking the shape of the Three Pointed Star. Similar DRLs are featured on the new CLA and will be added to other new Mercedes models, but AMG has enlarged them for this car.

There’s no sign of a traditional front grille, although we can see some slats towards the base of the bumper that will provide some cooling.

The side profile of the car is certifiably sexy and has been paired beautifully with tightly-spoked wheels that should also aid in aerodynamic performance. At the rear, this prototype ditches the ugly temporary lights of other recent testers and gets a pair of circular LED taillights, which again have the star motif. There will also be an active rear wing.

The Good Stuff

While both the Taycan and RS e-tron GT represented dramatic departures for both Porsche and Audi, both cars are excellent, and AMG had better be at the top of its game to make a compelling rival to them. All the signs point towards it being just that.

Underpinning the all-electric cousin to the AMG GT 4-Door will be the new AMG.EA architecture with a battery pack from Sila Nanotechnologies in the US and electric motors from British firm Yasa. Mercedes-AMG is reportedly pursuing a four-digit horsepower figure, giving it enough power to compete with the flagship Taycan and RS e-tron GT models.

Fortunately for those who still want a thunderous engine, Mercedes-AMG will continue to sell this new EV alongside the ICE-powered AMG GT 4-Door.

Mitsubishi is stepping up its EV game with not one, but two new electric models on the horizon, both of which are slated to arrive in the second half of 2026, each targeting a different market, First up, there’s an electric crossover inspired by the upcoming Nissan Leaf, which will be offered in North America. Then, Mitsubishi is also teaming up with Foxconn to develop a separate EV aimed at the Australian market.

The Leaf-based crossover is expected to hit dealers in the U.S. and Canada by summer 2026. As the official teaser suggests, it will closely resemble the new Nissan Leaf, adopting a similar crossover silhouette with a sloping roofline and an identical LED lighting signature. For now, it’s unclear if there will be any other noticeable differences between this Mitsubishi EV and its Nissan counterpart, aside from the Mitsubishi badges.

Key Features of the Leaf-Based EV

This new EV will sit on the CMF-EV platform, the same one found under the upcoming Nissan Leaf, and will feature a single electric motor. That means, like the slightly larger Nissan Ariya, there won’t be an all-wheel-drive option here. However, Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Leaf-based model will include a NACS charging port and is targeting a range of over 300 miles (482 km).

In return, Mitsubishi is helping Nissan with a plug-in hybrid version of the Nissan Rogue (X-Trail), which is expected to arrive in 2026 as a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The Rogue plug-in hybrid will sit alongside gasoline and self-charging hybrid variants, with different styling cues to set them apart. Mitsubishi’s goal, of course, is to “strengthen its partnership with Nissan” through electrified vehicles.

In addition to expanding its EV lineup, Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 plan also includes a new approach to retail sales and an expanded dealer network in North America. This effort is designed to boost sales across the region.

New Foxtron-Developed EV for Australia

Mitsubishi has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Foxtron, an electric vehicle subsidiary of tech-giant Foxconn, confirming earlier reports about a potential collaboration. The result will be a new Mitsubishi EV that will be developed by Foxtron and manufactured by Yulon Motor in Taiwan.

The yet-unnamed model will be introduced in Australia and New Zealand in the second half of 2026. Mitsubishi claims it will have “excellent driving performance as an EV”, adding that it will be equipped with “an advanced infotainment system”. While not confirmed, the new model could be a rebadged version of the Pininfarina-designed Foxtron Model B, first shown in 2022.

While the deal sounds nearly finalized, both Mitsubishi and Foxtron have stated they will continue discussions before sealing the deal. Beyond the Foxtron-developed EV for Oceania, Mitsubishi’s broader strategy includes its own developed models for ASEAN, Renault-based models for Europe, and Nissan-based models for North America.

Foxtron

Mercedes’ design department has been in a funk as for every hit, there’s multiple misses including the CLA, EQE, and EQS. However, another home run is on the horizon as the company appears to be teasing a sleek new sedan.

Mercedes-AMG isn’t saying much at this point, but they revealed “something big is coming” in June. The message was accompanied by a dark teaser image that shows a stylish sports car with a protruding nose and prominent headlights.

They’re joined by a rakish windscreen that flows into a dynamic roofline that continues almost all the way to the end of the car. We can also see muscular rear haunches and an expansive greenhouse.

While the company is playing coy, the performance brand appears to be teasing the redesigned GT 4-Door. Spy photographers have caught the model on numerous occasions, but it’s been heavily disguised so we weren’t expecting something quite so stunning.

The car is slated to go into production later this year and the company has previously confirmed it will ride on the “first dedicated electric vehicle architecture developed by Mercedes‑AMG.” It’s known as the AMG Electric Architecture (AMG.EA) and the model promises to be a “technological trailblazer, which will pioneer a number of new innovations.”

Details are few and far between, but the Porsche Taycan competitor is slated to have a high-performance battery as well as axial-flux motors. The model was previewed by the Vision AMG concept and rumors have suggested the range-topping variant could have around 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS).

Baldauf 

Cadillac unveiled the 2026 Lyriq-V earlier this year, and now they’re following up with the first glimpse of the Optiq-V. It will arrive later this year and become an important member of their performance lineup.

The luxury brand is keeping a tight lid on details about its second V-Series EV. Cadillac only mentioned that “engineers delivered a unique package prioritizing precision, a dynamic suspension, and tight steering for an exhilarating driving experience!”

Besides vague promises, Cadillac released a couple of teaser images that preview the upcoming crossover. Styling changes are hard to decipher, but we can see a unique diamond mesh pattern as well as V-Series badging. They’re joined by a familiar rear end with a mid-mounted carbon fiber spoiler.

Previous spy photos have been a tad more revealing as they suggest the model will have unique bumpers and a subtle front lip. They were joined by 21-inch wheels, which were backed up by a beefier braking system.

While the standard Optiq has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 354 lb-ft (479 Nm) of torque, the Optiq-V will be far more powerful, and Cadillac stopped short of talking numbers.

The Optiq-V could have the same output as the all-wheel drive Lyriq, meaning 515 hp (384 kW / 522 PS) and 450 lb-ft (609 Nm) of torque. That would be a healthy increase of 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) and 96 lb-ft (130 Nm).

The 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, kicking off on April 23, promises to be another stage for China’s local automakers to flex their muscles. Among the highlights, BYD is ready to showcase a slew of production vehicles, but it’s the two concept cars inspired by the hit video game Black Myth: Wukong and Chinese mythology that are set to steal the spotlight.

BYD’s collaboration with “Black Myth: Wukong” was announced in October 2024 with the goal of “protecting Chinese ancient monuments and national treasures”. However, this will be the first time that the automaker will present actual models with references to the game.

The concepts appear to be based on the BYD Han L sedan and the Denza Z9 GT shooting brake respectively. Starting with the Han L, it features a massive rear wing with a texture that resembles the skin of a dragon. It also features matching canards and splitter on the front bumper, side skirts, mirror caps, and rear bumper extensions, while riding on large-diameter alloy wheels.

The Denza Z9 GT is dressed in gold and brown, looking like a fitting vehicle for a Chinese emperor. The exterior is adorned by dragon sculptures and a livery featuring traditional motifs. We can also see a redesigned front bumper with yellow LEDs, wide fenders, and an aftermarket set of alloy wheels finished in gold.

BYD shared the teasers without much information about the vehicles. However, its fans were able to pinpoint the models they are based on. Judging from the pictures, they will most likely remain one-offs, designed to grab the attention of automotive enthusiasts from the gaming community.

It is not clear if the modified Han L and Denza Z9 GT will feature any performance or chassis upgrades over the standard production models. However, with a healthy output of 952 hp from a trio of electric motors, the Denza Z9 GT doesn’t really need them.

According to Wikipedia, “Black Myth: Wukong” is an action role-playing video game inspired by the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West. It was released on August 2024 by Game Science, and sold 20 million units within the first month. It’s popularity has sparked a tourism craze in historical sites in China, which are presented within the game with great realism.

The new-generation Outback won’t be the only Subaru making its world premiere at the New York Auto Show later this month. The automaker has just teased another model: the 2026 Trailseeker. So, what exactly is this Trailseeker? Well, Subaru has given us precisely two pieces of solid information: it’s an EV and a photo that shows part of the tailgate and cladded rear bumper. Riveting stuff, right?

Here’s what Subaru did say, though: “Get ready to meet your newest adventure-ready sidekick from Subaru: the all-new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV SUV. See it in person at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, coming soon.”

Now, this doesn’t give us a lot to work with—so far, it’s just a whole lot of mystery. We haven’t caught wind of any EV prototypes from Subaru recently, so it’s all a bit speculative at the moment. However, what isn’t speculative is the fact that Subaru has already confirmed it’s working on a compact electric SUV in collaboration with Toyota. Both brands plan to sell it in Japan, Europe, and North America.

Some have speculated that the Subaru version might be a twin to Toyota’s recently revealed CH-R+, which is set to hit the US next year. But, from what we can gather, that’s not the case. Toyota and Subaru have teased separate compact EVs, and the Trailseeker is likely one of those models.

Expect the two electric SUVs to be related in much the same way that Toyota’s bZ4X and Subaru’s Solterra EVs are essentially twins beyond the styling differences. The teaser image from Toyota’s version of the Trailseeker shows a more traditional SUV shape, with a sharp nose, roof rails, and a more upright rear end—think RAV4. At the very least, the two will have different front and rear designs, but Subaru’s version will likely play up the brand’s off-road image with more cladding and possibly other tweaks to match its name.

The good news? We don’t have to wait long to find out. The New York International Auto Show kicks off next week, April 17, so like they say, stay tuned.

Update: As expected, Slate Auto’s guerrilla-style marketing campaign is picking up steam, with the EV startup continuing to build buzz for its debut model with unconventional tactics. Following the recent sighting of its two-door pickup truck, a TikTok video from TheManiFamily account has now revealed a second variant.

This time, the vehicle in question is a three-door SUV version of the truck, complete with a slanted rear window hatch. With design cues reminiscent of older Range Rovers, it feels like a modern, more compact take on the original three-door Range Rover Classic from the ’70s and ’80s. Some might even notice similarities to the upcoming Rivian R3, which shares some styling elements, particularly the hatchback crossover shape. However, Slate Auto’s still-unnamed model clearly leans more toward utility.

The short video posted on TikTok seems to be another piece of the playful campaign, featuring a fake cat therapist company called TheFelineTherapist. The clip includes a link to a website, CatThurrrapy, which, unsurprisingly, reveals that Slate Auto is behind the entire ruse. But wait, there’s more. TheAutopian also caught wind of a third version of the vehicle, a boxier, two-door SUV that’s practically a love letter to – you guessed it – the Land Rover Defender.

An electric pickup truck has sparked curiosity online after a photo surfaced of a camouflaged two-door truck being offloaded from a flatbed in Los Angeles. The timing couldn’t be more interesting: news also broke that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is quietly backing a Michigan-based EV startup called Slate Auto, which claims it’s developing a $25,000 electric model in the form of a compact, two-door pickup.

The image, posted to Reddit by user Discostranger09, shows the pickup truck being unloaded from a shipping container just outside their office. The flatbed truck is marked with the name “Time Towing LLC,” though there may be an additional word obscured at the front of the logo. The original poster didn’t offer much more than that, though commentators said the photo was likely taken somewhere in Los Angeles.

From what’s visible, the vehicle looks like a mashup of an older Range Rover and a Jeep Renegade—boxy, upright, and unapologetically stubby. The absence of a grille opening at the front suggests its electric, reinforced by what appears to be a charging port near the rear corner. A quick image search doesn’t match it to anything currently on the market, though admittedly, that’s far from definitive.

Is This Slate Auto’s First Prototype?

Naturally, Redditors were quick to speculate. The most popular theory is that this mystery truck is Slate Auto’s debut model, possibly caught during testing or transport. Others floated ideas ranging from a Rivian prototype to a one-off custom build, though no solid evidence has surfaced to support any theory just yet.

What We Know About Slate Auto

Slate Auto remains mostly under wraps, with limited information available beyond a recent TechCrunch report. According to that story, the company was quietly formed in 2022 as a spinout of Bezos’ investment in Re:Build Manufacturing. Since then, it’s been building out its team in Detroit, recruiting talent from legacy automakers like Ford, GM, and Stellantis, as well as from floundering EV startups such as Fisker and Canoo. Their goal? A $25,000, two-door, two-seat electric pickup aimed at a late 2026 release.

While Slate Auto hasn’t confirmed anything about the vehicle, they’ve announced that more news is coming on April 24. Whether that will include a formal reveal or just more corporate breadcrumbs remains to be seen.

Update: Volkswagen has just released a few more teaser images of its trio of concept electric vehicles set to debut at the upcoming Shanghai auto show, offering a still shadowy—but intriguing—glimpse of what’s in store later this month.

Momentum continues to build for the Shanghai Auto Show as Volkswagen will use the event to introduce three new concepts. They’ll highlight the company’s “In China, for China” strategy and be presented by their Chinese joint ventures.

The company didn’t go into many specifics, but confirmed there will be two crossovers. One will be an EV from Volkswagen Anhui, while the other is a B-segment SUV with a range-extended powertrain from SAIC Volkswagen. Rounding out the lineup is an electric notchback from FAW-Volkswagen.

The teasers aren’t very revealing, but they suggests the models will have slender headlights that are connected by an illuminated bar. That’s not much to go on, but the company said the concepts will embody their new “China DNA – both in terms of technology and design and in relation to development time, which has been cut by more than 30 percent.”

Speaking of the latter, Volkswagen confirmed the concepts preview upcoming production models. These will be launched starting next year.

Volkswagen’s design boss Andreas Mindt said, “We have adapted our established European design values – stability, likability and the ‘secret sauce’ – to the Chinese market. The result is a design philosophy that honors the heritage of our brand while at the same time reflecting the desires and expectations of a new generation of customers in China.”

His sentiments were echoed by Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer who said, “Our aim is to remain the leading international automaker in China. We have everything that it takes to be successful: shorter development times, strong partners, sophisticated local development, production and infrastructure as well as the right products and innovations for our Chinese customers.”

Honda used CES to introduce the 0 SUV concept, and as the model is inching closer to production, a camouflaged prototype was recently shown at a Red Bull event in Japan. While it sports a familiar design, there are a handful of notable styling changes.

Starting up front, the road-going model has new headlights with familiar pixel-like accents. They’re joined by door-mounted mirrors as well as gloss black cladding with turn signals on the front fenders.

Elsewhere, there are larger flush-mounted door handles and a revised rear end. The latter now incorporates reverse lights and a third brake light.

The 0 SUV will ride on a new dedicated EV platform and, according to Honda, features a “spacious cabin with outstanding visibility and flexibility.” We can also expect advanced driver assistance systems and a digital user experience powered by the new ASIMO OS.

Honda hasn’t revealed many specifics, but has previously said the 0 Series will use a steer-by-wire system that enables “outstanding handling.” Production is slated to begin in Ohio next year and the crossover will eventually be offered in global markets, including Japan and Europe.

The 0 SUV will be followed by the 0 Saloon and it’s slated to be introduced in North America in late 2026. The sedan has a lot in common with the crossover, but sports a wedge-shaped design that aims to set it apart from other EVs on the market.

Faraday Future has released a revealing teaser image of their upcoming Super One minivan. It’s slated to go into production later this year and become the first member of the value-focused Faraday X lineup.

Scheduled to debut in June, the van has a massive grille that would make Lexus blush. It appears to be slightly recessed and sport a fully enclosed design with illuminated accents.

Additional details are hard to make out, but we can see slender headlights, a sculpted hood, and pronounced wheel arches. Previous teasers have also revealed a generic minivan shape as well as an expansive greenhouse.

Faraday hasn’t said much of substance about the van, but they’ve billed it as an “AI-MPV” that will “meet the dynamic and diverse needs of visionaries and their families.” The model is also slated to deliver “twice the performance at half the price.”

The Faraday X lineup is designed to compete in the $20,000 – $80,000 price range and previous reports have suggested the van will come with two rows of leather seats. Second-row passengers take priority and they’ll reportedly be greeted by a small fridge as well as heated and massaging seats with integrated footrests.

Little else is known about the van at this point, but the company has previously suggested there could be electric and range-extended powertrains. Faraday has also hinted at taking refundable reservations in the second quarter of this year.

However, everything’s still up in the air as Faraday Future recently said the FX family is “contingent on securing appropriate funding and finalizing necessary agreements.” That’s not reassuring when the automaker has a terrible track record and posted a $355.8 (£273.9 / €328.5) million loss last year.

The teaser campaign for the redesigned Jeep Compass is kicking into high gear as the company has tapped photographer Alessandro Dobici to do a shoot at the Melfi plant, where the crossover will be built. The resulting images are a fashionable black and white blur.

While Jeep isn’t saying much, they promised the Compass will retain a seven-slot grille and trapezoidal wheel arches. The teasers also show a Recon-like front fascia with slender headlights as well as lenses that feature a grille motif.

Speaking of the grille, it appears to incorporate some illuminated accents. Elsewhere, we can see a pronounced rear spoiler and what appears to be wheels with another grille motif.

The interior pictures don’t reveal much, but we can see familiar “Since 1941” wording. We also get a glimpse of contrast stitching and “Jeep” embroidery.

The automaker was coy on specifics, but said the Compass will play a “crucial role” in their electrification strategy. Jeep went on to say customers can expect an “expanded engine range with e-Hybrid, e-Hybrid plug-in, and fully electric options.”

Jeep kicked off the teaser campaign last October, when they revealed a sketch of the model and some initial details. At the time, they said the Compass would be based on the STLA Medium platform and go into production in Italy in 2025. They later confirmed a European debut for this spring.

A North American launch was originally slated for 2026, but reports have suggested the model is on hold as it was supposed to be built at Brampton Assembly in Canada. With a 25% tariff on imports, the model’s U.S. prospects look grim so Stellantis is said to be rethinking its product strategy.

Skoda introduced the Elroq last fall and now the company is gearing up to introduce the all-new RS variant. As part of this effort, they’ve released a revealing teaser video that gives us a glimpse of the electric crossover ahead of its debut on April 3.

Set to be unveiled at Milan Design Week, the Elroq RS has been given a sporty makeover as it features a high-gloss black Tech-Deck Face as well as a unique front bumper. The latter has a sportier central intake with painted triangular accents. They’re joined by horizontal black bars that flow into the vertical air curtains.

Moving further back, we can see new front fender badging and aerodynamically optimized wheels with a Mamba Green accent. While the rear end appears to carryover, the blacked out bumper suggests it could be updated as well.

The styling changes continue inside as we can see a perforated flat-bottom steering wheel with vRS badging. Elsewhere, there are two-tone front seats with vRS embroidery on the headrests. We can also expect a familiar digital instrument cluster and a freestanding infotainment system with a 13-inch display.

Powertrain details remain elusive, but the current range-topper is the Elroq 85. It features an 82 kWh battery pack as well as a rear-mounted motor producing 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 402 lb-ft (545 Nm) of torque. This allows the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.6 seconds and have a WLTP range of 361 miles (581 km).

Among the many models teased by Nissan during its recent product roadmap presentation, one caught our attention: a mystery electric SUV heading to North America. And while the details are still sparse, it sounds like a perfect candidate for a modern-day reincarnation of the Xterra.

This SUV appeared in a group teaser alongside the facelifted Pathfinder and new versions of the Rogue (X-Trail) SUVs. Nissan described it as an “adventure-focused SUV” while confirming that it’s an electric vehicle.

Nissan revealed that the “all-new” electric SUV will be produced at the Canton, Mississippi plant, with production set to begin at the end of the Japanese fiscal year 2027, which wraps up on March 31, 2028.

From the official (darkened) photo, the SUV appears to feature a boxy shape, bulky roof rails, and a fully covered grille with integrated LED graphics and an illuminated Nissan emblem. The rear shoulders are nicely toned, while dynamic lines grace the hood, and plastic cladding around the wheel arches adds a rugged touch. It’s a design that hints at the vehicle’s adventure-oriented nature.

According to Car and Driver, design prototypes they’ve seen lean into an off-road aesthetic, further fueling speculation that this could be a spiritual successor to the Xterra.

Compact and Adventure-Ready

The SUV appears to be smaller than the Pathfinder and the Rogue, suggesting it will slot into the compact segment. While Nissan hasn’t revealed any specific details, it’s likely that this new EV will be built on a unibody architecture, distancing it from the ladder-frame setup of the old Xterra. However, a beefed-up suspension, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and off-road technology could still give it the rugged capabilities the Xterra was known for.

The Story Of The Nissan Xterra

The Nissan Xterra, first introduced in 1999, was a rugged, off-road-ready SUV that drew its underpinnings from the Nissan Frontier pickup. The second generation arrived in 2005, and both generations offered rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) configurations. Unfortunately, the Xterra was discontinued in 2015 without a direct successor.

In 2018, Nissan unveiled the Terra, a Navara-based SUV aimed at Asian markets. While it was updated in 2020 and renamed the X-Terra for the Middle East, it was never sold in North America.

Last year, Ponz Pandikuthira, Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer for Nissan Americas, said that a new generation of the Nissan Xterra was “very actively considered”, describing it as an “authentic and serious truck” with a relatively affordable price point. More recently, it was reported that Nissan could be working on a modern Xterra study for the 2025 SEMA Show, dubbed “Project X”.

We’ll have to wait a little longer to learn about Nissan’s plans for reviving the Xterra, but an affordable boxy SUV with an electric powertrain, like in this teaser, should do the trick.

Infiniti, following in the footsteps of its parent company Nissan, has dropped several teasers of upcoming models, giving us a glimpse into its future plans. Among the highlights are a new SUV Coupe, a facelifted QX60, and (naturally) an electric SUV.

QX60 Facelift and New QX65

We’ll start with the the second-generation QX60, which made its debut in 2021 and shares its foundation with the Nissan Pathfinder. Based on official teasers and spy shots, we can expect a mid-cycle refresh later this year. The redesign will include a new front end with an illuminated badge and a few other styling tweaks. So, if you were hoping for a major overhaul, it’s not exactly here. But, hey, a fresh look is still a fresh look.

Next up is the Infiniti QX65 crossover coupe, set to debut in 2026. It’ll come with split LED headlights and a sharply sloped roofline inspired by the original Infiniti FX. Positioned as a sleeker, two-row alternative to the QX60, the QX65 will likely be powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS).

On the larger end of the spectrum, the QX80 will get a Sport package in 2025. This facelifted version will likely give the flagship SUV a bit more edge, though it’s unclear just how “sporty” it will actually get. Either way, it’ll be offered in Latin America and the Middle East.

Electric SUV

Infiniti has also teased a fully electric SUV, which seems to be the production version of the Vision QX Inspiration concept from 2019. Set to arrive in 2028, the new model will incorporate Infiniti’s latest “Artistry in Motion” design language, along with a range of tech features that sound impressive in the press release.

What About The Long Promised Electric Sedan?

Interestingly, the electric sedan, based on the Vision Qe concept, was notably absent from the press release. Initially, this model was supposed to debut before the SUV, but now it looks like the timeline might have shifted past 2028. It could be that Infiniti has quietly pushed back its electric car rollout in response to the US market’s shifting tax credits under President Trump. Originally, the plan was for Infiniti to manufacture its electric vehicles in Canton, Mississippi.

Nissan

Hyundai is preparing to unveil a new fully electric SUV, specifically designed for the Chinese market. This upcoming model, which remains unnamed for now, is a result of the Beijing Hyundai joint venture, and it recently made its first appearance in an official teaser ahead of its expected launch later this year.

The teaser reveals a camouflaged prototype of the SUV undergoing cold-weather testing. Despite the cover-up, we can catch a glimpse of distinct styling elements that set this SUV apart from the global Hyundai Ioniq 9, which is notably absent in China.

Even under camouflage wraps, the SUV’s design features some clear visual cues. The headlights are connected by a slender LED strip along the front. The rear sports a muscular shoulder line that flows into a more upright tail, complete with an integrated spoiler. Not to be overlooked are the full-width LED taillights, which stretch toward the sides, enhancing the SUV’s profile.

Hyundai recently opened an R&D center in Shanghai, dedicated to developing electric models specifically for the Chinese market.

Beijing Hyundai

While we’re still waiting for detailed specifications, it’s likely the new SUV will be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), which is shared across their Ioniq and Kia EV lines. This platform supports both single and dual motor setups and can handle battery packs as large as 110.3 kWh, suggesting this SUV could offer impressive range and performance.

Currently, Beijing Hyundai’s offerings are limited to internal combustion engine (ICE) models, including popular vehicles like the Sonata and Elantra sedans, the Tucson L and Santa Fe SUVs, and the Mufasa SUV. The only electric model available in China right now is the performance-oriented Ioniq 5 N, imported directly from Hyundai’s global lineup.

We’ll get more details about this new fully electric SUV on March 28. Whether that will be the official debut or just another teaser remains unclear, but for now, the teaser video below will have to do.

Over the past few years, Hyundai has created several high-performance electric concepts, proving to the world that it’s committed to building cars that are fun to drive and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It looks to have done this yet again with its latest project, known as the Insteroid.

This special one-off, teased with several images and a video, takes the regular all-electric Inster and completely transforms it by taking inspiration from video games. As you may have guessed, the car’s name is a portmanteau of ‘Inster’ and ‘Steroid’ and will be unveiled in the flesh in early April.

The car appears to share very little in common with the regular Inster. All-new bodywork has been crafted for the concept, including massive flared wheel arches at the front and rear, not dissimilar to those from the i20 N WRC car. The cabin appears to be completely stripped out, and we can see a roll cage in there. Elsewhere, Hyundai’s designers have crafted a set of aerodisc wheels and a towering rear wing.

Several teasers of the car shared on social media show it’ll come complete with a raft of bright orange accents and a ghost logo that looks like it’s been pulled straight from Pac-Man. One teaser shows some of the car’s interior instruments, including Boost buttons, driving mode settings, and a track mode. There also look to be orange seat belts.

According to Hyundai, the Insteroid is a “thrilling ‘glitch’ in the automotive matrix, seamlessly merging the boundary-pushing aesthetics of video games with real-world engineering to create a vehicle that feels like it’s morphed straight out of a digital speedway.”

The road-going Inster, which itself is based on the Casper, is sold with a single electric motor delivering 95 hp in base form of 113 hp in the flagship version. Here’s hoping Hyundai fits a more potent powertrain to the Insteroid, perhaps the same dual-motor setup as the Ioniq 5 N which is used by the RN24 rolling lab model presented last year.

The EV boom has not gone as expected for many companies and a number of them have gone belly up including Arrival, Canoo, and Fisker. However, electric vehicle sales are climbing and there’s a new entry in the form of Perseus.

The British-based company has emerged from “stealth mode” and is being led by a team of former senior executives from Bentley, Lotus, Ineos Automotive, and Jaguar Land Rover. They’re planning to launch a “performance and technology-focused compact SUV” by late 2027.

Set to compete in the premium segment, the Perseus SUV will be based on a “proven, state-of-the-art EV platform from a European OEM Group.” The company has also partnered with an Italian engineering and design firm to handle interior and exterior styling as well as development, prototyping, and testing. On top of that, the firm will be using a European contract manufacturer for production.

This is pretty smart as the company will use an existing platform as well as an established manufacturer. It also sounds like a lot of the work will be outsourced to a firm that specializes in vehicle design and development. This stands in stark contrast to the typical startup philosophy, where companies try to do everything themselves and burn through millions of dollars in the process.

We can expect to learn more in the coming months, but the teaser image shows a sleek crossover with a Genesis-like vibe and slender headlights. They’re joined by a long hood, which flows into a rakish windscreen. Elsewhere, there’s an angular shoulder line and what looks like flush-mounted door handles.

Little else is known about the EV at this point, but Perseus says it will have an “inspirational and emotive design, groundbreaking technology, engaging performance, and exceptional user experience with compelling value.” We can also expect artificial intelligence and “exceptional personalization.”

Perseus will embrace the direct-to-consumer sales model, which focuses on online sales and a handful of brand experience centers. The company will also lean on its automotive platform provider for a “European-wide service and maintenance network.”
