Tesla Confirms New “Affordable Models” For First Half

  • Tesla’s new EVs will use parts from existing platforms and aspects of the next-gen platform.
  • Prices haven’t been confirmed but will likely sit around $30,000, undercutting the 3 and Y.
  • In June, Tesla will launch a paid self-driving service in Austin and could expand it to other cities.

Tesla didn’t have the best financial year in 2024, but during an earnings call today, it painted a rosier picture for 2025. The company promises to roll out more affordable EVs in the first half of the year while making major strides in its self-driving tech. It also highlighted a new milestone, as for the first time ever, Tesla has reduced the average cost of building its vehicles to below $35,000.

The numbers, however, tell a less celebratory story. For the first time in over a decade, Tesla’s global sales dipped in 2024, and that decline was reflected in its earnings. The company posted $25.707 billion in revenue for Q4, well down on Wall Street expectations of $27.2 billion. Furthermore, Q4 net income dropped 71 percent to $2.3 billion.

Overall, Tesla’s profits took a hit in 2024, with net income dropping to $8.4 billion, marking a 23% drop from 2023 and an even steeper 40% decline from its record $14.1 billion profit in 2022. Still, total revenue for 2024 managed a slight uptick, reaching $97.7 billion, a modest 1% increase over the previous year’s record.

More Affordable Teslas

The bigger news, though, is what Tesla has planned for 2025. In the first half of the year, it’s set to launch “more affordable” models. Precise details about these models haven’t been confirmed, although Tesla has been talking about them for quite some time.

Speculation had been rife over the past year that these models could be stripped-down versions of the Model 3 and Model Y, but that doesn’t appear to be the case from Tesla’s wording. According to the carmaker, “these vehicles will utilize aspects of the next generation platform as well as aspects of our current platforms and will be produced on the same manufacturing lines as our current vehicle line-up.”

This leaves open the possibility of these base models potentially taking the form of the recently rumored Model Q. Again, this hasn’t been confirmed, but pricing can be expected to start around the $30,000 mark, making them more affordable than the Model 3 and Model Y.

Interestingly, Tesla said the approach of using parts of its next-gen platform and current platforms at existing production lines, “will result in achieving less cost reduction than previously expected,” but will allow the company to grow “vehicle volumes in a more capex [capital expenditure] efficient manner during uncertain times.”

Tesla’s Self-Driving Plans For 2025

There were some other titbits revealed during the earnings call. For starters, Elon Musk said that starting in June, Tesla will begin operating a paid, unsupervised Full-Self Driving service in Austin, Texas. He didn’t say if vehicles used in this service will be owned by customers operated by Tesla directly, nor did he divulge any details about pricing.

Musk is hopeful Tesla will be able to expand this service to other US cities towards the end of the year, but said it needs to prove the system’s safety in Texas first and show regulators that its vehicles are safer in autonomous mode than not.

Elon Musk also claims Tesla has received interest from several car manufacturers about licensing its FSD system. In typical Musk fashion, however, he provided no other details.

Renault And Volvo Joint Venture Unveils Three New Electric Delivery Vans

  • Flexis has unveiled three new commercial vans, which will be launched in Europe next year.
  • They’re based on an electric skateboard platform and will offer a range of up to 280 miles.
  • The company is a joint venture between Renault, Volvo Group, and CMA CGM.

Flexis Mobility burst onto the scene last year as a joint venture between Renault Group, Volvo Group, and shipping company CMA CGM. Now, we’re seeing the fruits of their labor as the company has unveiled three new commercial vans.

Designed to revolutionize urban logistics, all three vans are based on an electric skateboard platform and share an electronic architecture. The models also have a customizable interior as well as a low floor height to aid in the loading and unloading of packages.

Flexis went on to say customers can expect a WLTP range of up to 280 miles (450 km) as well as a fast charging capability that can deliver an 80% charge in less than 20 minutes. The company also paid attention to ergonomics and driver safety as they noted the driver’s seat has been specifically positioned to reduce knee strain. This is important as drivers might have to get up and sit down 250 times per day.

The firm didn’t go into many specifics, but their Step-in model is a medium van that features sliding front doors. It also has a rear shutter door, which is being billed as a “first for the European market.” There’s easy access between the cabin and cargo area, and the 74.8-inch (1,900 mm) height means drivers can easily walk around inside.

\\\\\\\\\\\

The Cargo Van is an urban last-mile delivery vehicle that has an “easily convertible box,” which is “capable of integrating different widths, heights, and beds, as well as modular solutions including, but not limited to, refrigerated boxes.” The model also has traditional front doors as well as a low cab height.

The Panel Van is perhaps the most interesting of the three as it looks ready to challenge industry heavyweights. Flexis didn’t say much about it, but claimed the model will have superior maneuverability, an overall height of 74.8 inches (1,900 mm), and a “multi-purpose design [that] addresses all limitations of current market offerings.” It also looks pretty good, which is a tad surprising for a commercial vehicle.

The vans will be built at Renault’s Sandouville plant and the first deliveries are slated for 2026. Flexis will sell vehicles directly to fleets and logistics providers, but they’ll also supply them to Renault which will “distribute them under their own brands in their sales networks.”

20 prototypes have been built and they’ve already logged more than 9,000 hours of driving since March of last year. Flexis also noted they have received ten letters of intent from logistics providers in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Among them are Colis Privé, DB Schenker, and HIVED.

Porsche Taycan GTS Sets EV Drifting Record On Ice Because It Can

  • The all-wheel Taycan smashed the previous record of 9.2 miles (14.809 km).
  • Nevertheless, a rear-wheel drive Porsche Taycan holds the outright EV drifting record.
  • The sleek electric sedan now holds four separate Guinness World Records.

Porsche has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous vehicle drift on ice by an EV, using a Taycan GTS as its weapon of choice. For 46 minutes, Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter completed 132 laps of an ice track, covering 10.87 miles (17.503 km) in a seemingly never-ending powerslide that we can only dream of having the skills to replicate.

The record was set at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levin, Finland, and the Taycan GTS was equipped with Michelin winter tires with one-millimeter spikes. While a new Guinness record was achieved, it didn’t come easy. Richter had to abandon his first attempt after drifting for roughly 6.8 miles (11 km) because the ice track had started to deteriorate.

However, as darkness began to fall, the temperatures dropped, ensuring the track could withstand the rigors of a heavy EV sliding across the surface for 46 minutes straight. The previous record of 9.2 miles (14.809 km) was smashed.

“With our new Guinness World Records title on ice, the Taycan has once again proven its sideways driving qualities,” Richter said after the stunt. “And this time even with all-wheel drive. The fact that the Taycan GTS can be controlled so well even under extreme conditions speaks volumes for its excellent chassis and balanced performance.”

Other Drifting Records

For as impressive as the new record is, it’s far from the longest drift ever performed, nor is it even the longest drift recorded by a Porsche Taycan. In late 2020, a Porsche Experience instructor in Germany drifted a rear-wheel drive Taycan around a paved circuit for 26.2 miles (42.171 km), setting an outright Guinness record for the longest EV drift. However, not even that comes close to the outright drifting record.

In 2017, a BMW M5 drifted around a skid plan for more than eight hours straight, covering a distance of 232.5 miles (374 km). That feat was made all the more impressive because the car had to be refueled mid-drift by another M5, just like how a fighter jet is refueled in mid-air. An EV won’t threaten that record anytime soon though, unless charging technology improves significantly, allowing for ultra-quick charging in the future.

Teslas Are Now Driving From Production Line To Loading Docks Unsupervised

  • Teslas now drive themselves over a mile from the end of the production line to loading docks.
  • The automaker released two videos showing the process as several cars make the journey.
  • The automaker claims this marks the next step toward unsupervised full self-driving tech.

Ever pressing on to the bleeding edge of technology, even if the previous cuts have yet to heal, Tesla is back at it again. Now, it says that its cars drive themselves from the end of the production line to the loading docks. That’s a 1.2-mile trip without humans in the car at all. Here’s everything the automaker showed us and what it’s saying about the development.

In a pair of videos, Tesla showed off the new process and it’s not unimpressive. The cars appear to start at a Supercharger station where humans appear to pop into the car to begin the automated driving process. From there, the driver gets back out and presumably moves on to the next car in the line to start its journey.

More: Cybertruck FSD Near Miss Has Tesla Fans Attacking Each Other

One video begins by showing a wide shot that includes these workers along with at least six Teslas that are all moving and merging without humans behind the wheel. As the video continues, we see a line of these cars that stretches as far as the camera lens can see. Then, countless cars without humans in them line up and select various loading dock parking spaces.

This isn’t a super simple straight away these cars are taking from point A to point B either. They’re navigating several intersections within the grounds, other cars with drivers in them, and heavy equipment moving about. In addition, it appears that at least one section of the road is too narrow for two cars to pass at a time so the autonomous cars have to sometimes wait for another to pass before they can use that same bit of road.

Tesla claims in a posting on X that this is “One step closer to large-scale unsupervised FSD.” No doubt, this is impressive. BMW recently made news by using its own autonomous tech to enable cars to drive themselves down and out of the production line. Those cars aren’t navigating what these Teslas are though and they’re doing it through a completely different method.

All of this said, it’s very important to note that this is a closed environment that Tesla has complete control over. These cars aren’t out there on public roads with drivers who care more about shaving or doing their makeup than being alert behind the wheel.

They’re not dealing with the unknowns of public roads so this new process, while impressive, isn’t the same thing as true self-driving the way we all think about it.

Lucid Gravity SUV’s 926-Volt Platform Allows For 400 kW Fast Charging

  • The new electric SUV will soon be granted access to over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers.
  • The initial Grand Touring model delivers 828 hp thanks to a pair of electric motors.
  • All Lucid Gravity models are equipped with a 123 kWh battery with Panasonic cells.

A month after Lucid announced pricing for its Gravity SUV and started production of its second EV, the brand has revealed more details about its trick powertrain and class-leading charging technology. They’ve also confirmed that from January 31, it will be fully supported by the Tesla Supercharger network across the United States and Canada without any charging adapter needed.

Underpinning the Gravity is a 926-volt architecture that allows it to charge at up to 400 kW while plugged into a suitable DC fast charger, if you can find one. Nonetheless, the new Lucid SUV can still charge at up to 225 kW when plugged into a Tesla V3 Supercharger. At peak charging speeds, Lucid says the Gravity can add 200 miles (320 km) of range in less than 12 minutes.

All Gravity models feature a 123 kWh battery pack that uses cells co-developed by Lucid and Panasonic. Despite the sheer size of the thing, it has an EPA-estimated range of 450 miles (724 km) thanks in part to the low 0.24 drag coefficient. The innovative powertrain also supports bi-directional charging at up to 19.2 kW through the NACS charge port, enough for the Gravity to charge another EV.

Ticking The Boxes

“Lucid Gravity is the first SUV that truly compromises nothing,” Lucid chief executive Peter Rawlinson said in a statement. “It reimagines what an SUV can be, offering an unprecedented combination of comfort and space, ride and handling, practicality and range, and with today’s announcements, exceptional charging performance and convenience. With seating for up to seven full-size adults and space for their luggage, the Lucid Gravity truly is the ultimate vehicle for the whole family.”

The Grand Touring is the first version of the seven-seater to hit the market. It features a pair of electric motors that combine to produce 828 hp and is fitted with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels as standard. However, 21- and 22-inch, and 22- and 23-inch staggered setups are also offered. The Gravity can tow up to 6,000 lbs (2,722 kg), perhaps making it the ultimate, seven-seat luxury EV.

Toyota, Suzuki, And Daihatsu’s Electric Kei Vans Are Finally Launching This Year

  • Toyota, Suzuki, and Daihatsu will launch their electric kei vans this year in Japan.
  • The models are electric versions of the Toyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every, and Daihatsu Hijet.
  • The triplets were shown in prototype form in 2023 when they were originally supposed to debut.

Japanese automakers Toyota, Suzuki, and Daihatsu have officially announced plans to introduce fully electric versions of their kei vans in the domestic market before the end of 2025, two years later than originally promised.

The electric versions of the Toyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every, and Daihatsu Hijet were first shown in prototype form during the G7 Hiroshima Summit in 2023, the year they were supposed to hit the streets. The latest announcement doesn’t explain the delay, but it does confirm that all three models are finally on track for release this year.

These EV kei vans share the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, meaning they’re essentially the same vehicle underneath, with only branding and badging setting them apart. Visually, they’re nearly identical to their gas-powered counterparts, save for a charging port on the front bumper and—predictably—the lack of an exhaust pipe.

The EVs will be manufactured by Daihatsu, which also makes the existing ICE-powered versions. They will be powered by a “jointly developed BEV system”, combining “Suzuki and Daihatsu’s expertise in creating small-size cars with Toyota’s electrification technology”.

Performance details remain vague, as the automakers haven’t disclosed the electric motor’s output or battery capacity. However, they claim an estimated range of around 200 km (124 miles) per charge—better than the aging Mitsubishi Minicab MiEV 133 km (83 miles) but falling short of the Honda N-Van e:’s 245 km (152 miles).

For comparison, the current gasoline-powered kei vans use a 660cc engine, producing 46 hp (34 kW) in naturally aspirated form or 63 hp (47 kW) with a turbocharger. Whether the EV versions will offer more power or maintain the same cargo-hauling abilities remains to be seen.

The zero-emission versions of the mini-LCVs are designed as a last-mile delivery solution. The models will contribute to the companies’ efforts towards carbon neutrality, which is a shared goal among the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

Fiat Grande Panda Will Gain A 4×4 Version

  • Fiat CEO Olivier Francois has confirmed that a Grande Panda 4×4 version is on the way.
  • It will feature higher ground clearance, a more robust suspension, and off-road capabilities.
  • The company is weighing both traditional and electric all-wheel-drive powertrains for the 4×4.

Fiat is committed to continuing the legacy of the Panda 4×4, this time with a rugged version of the new Grande Panda. According to Fiat CEO Olivier Francois, the Grande Panda 4×4 is already in development, though whether it will feature an electric or hybrid powertrain remains undecided.

All three generations of the Fiat Panda were offered in 4×4 versions, enhancing the city car’s off-road capabilities. Fiat aims to bring this same versatility to the all-new Grande Panda, which competes in the supermini segment alongside the related Citroen C3.

More: A Reborn Fiat Coupe Would Still Turn Heads In 2025 As A Prelude Rival

When questioned by Autocar during a recent press event about the potential for a 4×4 model, Francois confirmed the news: “Yes, we are committed to doing something and are studying it,” he said. “We’re trying to find the solution and a way. The question is whether it should be an ICE 4×4 or an EV 4×4. We’re looking at solutions and how and when—but we get the point and would like to do something like it soon.”

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Currently, the Fiat Grande Panda is built on the Smart Car platform, which supports front-wheel drive only. This means Fiat engineers will need to modify the platform to accommodate all-wheel drive. One potential solution could be adding an extra electric motor to the rear axle, similar to what’s found in the mild-hybrid Jeep Avenger 4Xe and Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida Q4. However, the ideal solution would be a more traditional 4WD system, much like those in previous Panda 4×4 models.

Should Fiat proceed with an AWD version of the Grande Panda, it will likely feature higher ground clearance and a more robust suspension setup to handle rougher terrain. This would make the 4×4 version stand out from the front-wheel-drive models, with additional rugged design elements to give it a more off-road capable appearance.

The Current Grande Panda Lineup

At this point, Fiat has shown off a couple of versions of the Grande Panda. The most notable are the Grande Panda RED trim, which sits on white 16-inch steel wheels, and the higher-spec Grande Panda La Prima, which features 17-inch wheels, aluminum-style skid plates, and roof rails, all contributing to a crossover-like stance. These features, paired with the boxy shape and plastic cladding, give the Grande Panda a distinctly rugged look.

More: 2027 Alfa Romeo Giulia Will Be A Crossover, Abandoning Its Sedan Roots

The Grande Panda is available in both electric and hybrid options. The EV features a 111-horsepower electric motor paired with a 44 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 320 km (199 miles) on the WLTP cycle. Meanwhile, the hybrid model combines a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with a small electric motor, providing a combined output of 100 hp (75 kW / 102 PS) and a 48V battery.

Fiat has also confirmed plans to introduce a pure-ICE version of the Panda with a manual gearbox designed for emerging markets. Francois said that this model is expected to arrive in Europe “at some point”, likely serving as a budget alternative to the electrified versions which are the main focus of the Italian brand in the region.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

The Fiat Grande Panda starts at a reasonable price, with the entry-level mild-hybrid model available for less than €19,000 ($19,800), while the electric version begins below €25,000 ($26,000). The first deliveries of the Grande Panda are expected in European dealerships in March 2025.

It is safe to assume that the 4×4 version will be more expensive, justifying its position as the flagship trim of the future lineup. The company hasn’t set a target date for the launch of the Fiat Grande Panda 4×4, but the ongoing development suggests it will take a couple of years before we see it on the roads.

More Pandas On The Way

In addition to the Grande Panda, Olivier Francois also provided insight into other, larger Panda-themed concepts currently in development. These concepts will share the same Smart Car platform as the Grande Panda, with two models in the works. One of these is expected to be an SUV variant, likely competing with models such as the Citroen C3 Aircross and Opel Frontera.

According to the CEO, Fiat’s decision to return to the supermini segment with a “utility vehicle” like the Grande Panda, rather than a traditional hatchback like the now-discontinued Punto, was driven by the need for global appeal. The goal was to create a model that could reach beyond Europe. This approach is backed up by Fiat’s sales numbers, with Brazil accounting for nearly half of the 1.2 million registrations projected for 2024.

Trump’s Transportation Secretary Rolls Back Biden’s Tough MPG Mandates

  • New US Transportation Secretary has ordered changes to fuel economy legislation.
  • Sean Duffy wants to roll back mpg mandates set during Joe Biden’s presidency.
  • Current rules introduced last year demand cars average 50.4 mpg by 2031.

President’s Trump’s pick for transportation secretary had to navigate a few road blocks on his way to office, but now he’s got his feet behind the desk Sean Duffy is intent on making his presence felt. One of Duffy’s first acts was to begin dismantling ambitious fuel economy mandates set by the previous administration.

Under rules put in place by former president in June of last year, Joe Biden, the average fuel consumption of American automakers’ light vehicle fleets must hit 50.4 mpg (4.7 l/100 km) by 2031. The regulations were intended to cut greenhouse gases to help limit global warming and to encourage drivers to switch to EVs.

Related: Donald Trump Signs Executive Orders Scrapping Biden’s “EV Mandate”

But Duffy sent a memo to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this week ordering the agency to re-evaluate mpg rules for both cars and trucks made from the 2022 model year.

“Artificially high fuel economy standards impose large costs that render many new vehicle models unaffordable for the average American family and small business owner,” the memo said, according to the New York Times.

Duffy claims he is concerned that the tough MPG rules don’t reflect the true size of America’s oil reserves or the potential vulnerability of the electric grid. He also expressed worries over the idea of US automakers relying on foreign materials for their EV batteries.

Trump’s Transportation Secretary Rolls Back Biden’s Tough MPG Mandates

Trump has also pledged to scrap EV tax credits that were introduced in their current form as part of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act. Available credits of up to $7,500 have been a big driver of electric car sales, which climbed 7 percent in 2024, giving EVs an 8 percent share of the car market.

Many automakers, having poured billions into developing EVs, are worried about the prospect of demand for them tanking if the credits are axed. But some will also be relived to see Trump’s team row back those stringent mpg standards, which could have presented some difficult engineering challenges to meet if EV demand doesn’t mature.

Alfa Romeo this week became the latest automaker to push back its switch to an all-EV lineup. The Italian brand’s Tonale SUV was supposed to be its last new combustion vehicle, but plans for the next-generation Stelvio SUV and Giulia sedan have now been tweaked to include provision for hybrid and combustion powertrains as well as fully electric ones.

The decision to switch was made easier by the flexibility of the Stellantis STLA Large platform that both cars will use, and which they share with the Dodge Charger and its Charger Daytona EV brother.

Alfa Romeo’s SUV Fixation Kills The Giulietta For Good

  • CEO Santo Ficili confirmed that the Giulietta won’t be getting a successor after all.
  • The company won’t re-enter the hatchback segment because customers prefer SUVs.
  • The Alfa Romeo Tonale serves as an indirect successor of the discontinued model.

Alfa Romeo has confirmed it won’t be introducing a new hatchback, with the Tonale being its sole model in the compact segment. The decision came straight from the company’s CEO, who revealed that the Giulietta will not be part of the brand’s future lineup, citing customer preferences towards SUVs.

This disappointing news for hatchback fans came directly from Santo Ficili, Alfa Romeo’s newly appointed CEO, during an interview with French outlet L’Argus. After sharing details about the upcoming Stelvio and Giulia models, Ficili put an end to the rumors about a new Giulietta. He explained, “Honestly, at the moment, I don’t see a future for a Giulietta because there is no demand for a compact sedan. Today, the Giulietta is the Tonale.”

More: 2027 Alfa Romeo Giulia Will Be A Crossover, Abandoning Its Sedan Roots

The Alfa Romeo boss admitted to being a fan of the nameplate, but pointed to market conditions as the reason for stepping away from the segment. ‘I’ve owned 20 Giuliettas in my life, and it’s a fantastic car, even now. But we have to follow market demand, and customers want SUVs. And we have to sell cars.”

The Giulietta name has a long history, first introduced as a 2+2 coupe back in 1954, followed by a four-door sedan and a roadster. The second generation, launched in 1977, was offered exclusively as a sedan, while the hatchback version (originally intended to adopt the Milano moniker) debuted in 2010. Production of the Giulietta hatchback lasted until 2020, but now it’s clear that Alfa Romeo is shifting its focus entirely to SUVs.

A new Giulietta would have competed with models like the BMW 1-Series, Audi A3, and Mercedes A-Class. However, with the latter soon to be discontinued, Alfa Romeo likely saw limited future in that market. Instead, the most realistic future for a compact Alfa would have involved the STLA Medium platform, allowing for both electric and hybrid powertrains. This platform is set to underpin many future models across Stellantis brands, helping to optimize manufacturing costs.

Still, with hatchbacks steadily losing ground to the far more popular SUVs, it was no surprise that a brand like Alfa Romeo would focus on more profitable segments. After all, the same shift happened with the discontinued Mito supermini, which was replaced by the Junior small SUV.

More: Alfa Romeo Scraps EV-Only Plan As Dealers Warn Of Sales Collapse

The Giulietta’s potential revival had been hinted at by former CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato, who suggested in 2023 that there might still be money to be made from hatchbacks. While this statement left a window of possibility for a new generation of the Giulietta, it is now clear that Alfa Romeo has lost interest in such an offering.

Under the strategy laid out by Imparato, Alfa Romeo plans to launch one new model every year. After the Tonale, Junior, Stelvio, and Giulia debut between 2023 and 2026, the brand is set to unveil a flagship SUV/crossover in 2027, specifically designed for the US market.

2027 BMW 3-Series: Everything We Know About The Neue Klasse

  • BMW is expected to unveil a new generation of the 3-Series sedan in 2026.
  • The Neue Klasse sedan will be available in ICE (3-Series) and EV (i3) derivatives.
  • Despite riding on different underpinnings, the models will look very similar.

Updated 1/28: We’ve included fresh renderings of the next iteration of the BMW 3 Series, along with all the latest intel and spy photos.

Sedans might not dominate sales charts like their SUV counterparts these days, but the 3-Series isn’t going anywhere. This compact executive sedan remains a cornerstone of BMW’s lineup, carrying a legacy that’s been around for half a century. Now, the 3-Series is gearing up for its next chapter, with a new generation set to launch in 2026, and it’s coming in two distinct flavors: all-electric and internal combustion.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because BMW’s been work-shopping this approach with their bigger sedans, the i5/5-Series and i7/7-Series. The 3-Series (and its electric twin, the i3 sedan) will follow a similar playbook, giving buyers the choice between old-school horsepower and cutting-edge electric performance.

More: BMW Almost Launched An All-Electric Hypercar With 1,300 HP

Recent spy shots of prototypes have revealed both gas-powered and fully electric versions of the next-gen 3-Series. While both share the “Neue Klasse” design language, the differences in proportions are telling. The ICE prototypes feature a slightly longer hood, a sharper dash-to-axle ratio, and a more upright windshield. These elements combined make it look less like a complete EV-inspired redesign and more like an extensively reworked version of the current G20-generation BMW 3-Series.

The spy photos have sparked the imagination of digital artists Theottle and Kelsonic, who have created renderings of the upcoming BMW 3-Series, offering an early glimpse of its potential exterior design.

\\\\

Renderings by Theottle / YouTube and Kelsonic / Autoreview

A Shark Nose With Bite

BMW’s signature shark-nose styling makes a return here, sharpening the sedan’s sporty stance. The effect is further bolstered by a deeper, more aggressive front bumper and subtly flared fenders that add muscle without overindulging. Flush door handles bring the styling in line with BMW’s latest clean-surfaced aesthetic, while the greenhouse and Hofmeister kink stay intact—thankfully, some traditions are non-negotiable.

With the rear end of the prototypes using provisional taillights, we have to use our imagination to fill the gaps. Theottle’s rendering is inspired by the Vision Neue Klasse concept from 2023, featuring a full-width taillight cluster with modern LED graphics. On the other hand, Kelsonik’s take mimics the slimmer LEDs of the 5-Series.

Further down, the rendering artists designed distinct bumpers inspired by styling cues from the BMW M division. This aligns with earlier prototype sightings, which featured sporty alloy wheels, larger brakes, and M-style quad tailpipes.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

The BMW i3 Neue Klasse sedan (Photos: SH Proshots)

While we have yet to get a glimpse of the 3-Series prototype’s interior during development testing, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. BMW recently introduced the Panoramic iDrive system at CES, and it’s expected to trickle into the new model.

The centerpiece of the new setup is an expansive pillar-to-pillar display mounted at the base of the windscreen. This customizable screen is divided into three sections and is complemented by a secondary infotainment touchscreen positioned lower on the dashboard.

Two Platforms, Two Paths

Unlike the i5/5-Series and i7/7-Series, where BMW paired EVs and ICE models on the same platform, the i3 and 3-Series are believed to head down different paths. The all-electric i3 sedan will ride on the Neue Klasse architecture, shared with the upcoming iX3 SUV, while the combustion-powered 3-Series will reportedly stick to the CLAR platform, which also underpins the forthcoming G45 X3. This would explain the differences in proportions and styling details we see in the i3 and ICE 3-Series prototypes here.

Based on what we’ve seen with the mechanically related X3, the next-gen 3-Series will likely offer mild-hybrid versions of BMW’s proven engines: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter inline-six, both upgraded for better horsepower and fuel economy.

A Mild-Hybrid M3 Is In The Cards

Interestingly, even the mighty M3 isn’t immune to electrification. However, as BMW officials told us in a recent trip, the next M3 will forego the heavy plug-in hybrid setup of the M5 and instead adopt a lighter mild-hybrid system. Meanwhile, for those tracking BMW’s EV ambitions, an all-electric quad-motor equivalent of the M3 is already under development, promising tire-melting lunacy for the brave few.

The current G20-generation BMW 3-Series first graced the stage in 2018, with minor facelifts arriving in 2022 and 2024. If BMW sticks to its usual timeline, this heavily updated version—complete with “new generation” branding and styling, will likely hit the streets in 2026, alongside its fully electric Neue Klasse sibling, the i3 sedan.

VW Scraps ID.7 For North America Due To Frosty EV Climate

  • Volkswagen has reportedly decided not to offer the ID.7 in North America.
  • The model was originally slated to arrive last year, but was indefinitely delayed.
  • A spokesperson chalked the decision up to the “challenging EV climate.”

Volkswagen pulled out all the stops when they introduced the ID.7 and we covered it live from New York in the spring of 2023. The model was originally planned to be launched in America the following year, but that never happened.

As Volkswagen explained in May of 2024, they were “committed to making market-driven choices while listening to our customers.” The company went on to say they were delaying the North American launch of the ID.7 due, in part, to changing market dynamics.

2025 Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer Review: An EV For The Long Haul

The company didn’t mention when the ID.7 would finally arrive stateside, but Volkswagen Group of America CEO Pablo Di Si later said it would likely be launched in 2025. However, at the time, he cautioned nothing was set in stone and everything was conditional on “consumer demand.”

Fast forward to today and it appears the ID.7 will become forbidden fruit. We’ve reached out for comment, but Volkswagen told Automotive News they no longer plan to offer the electric liftback in North America. A spokesperson blamed this on the “challenging EV climate,” which has seen slower adoption than many automakers anticipated.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Michael Gauthier / Carscoops

While the ID.7 is apparently dead in America, the spokesperson said “Electric vehicles continue to be a core part of Volkswagen’s long-term product strategy, and new electric models will continue to be introduced for this market.”

We’ll update this post if we hear back from Volkswagen, but the ID.7 was always going to face an uphill battle in America. Cars have fallen out of favor with consumers and the company suggested the model would be expensive as it’s the flagship of the ID lineup. This suggests the model could have been even more costly than the ID. Buzz, which starts at $59,995.

Update: The company sent us a statement saying, “Due to the ongoing challenging EV climate, Volkswagen has decided to no longer offer the ID.7 to the North American market. Despite this, electric vehicles continue to be a core part of Volkswagen’s long-term product strategy, and new electric models will continue to be introduced for this market.” The automaker added they are “encouraged by the enthusiastic reception of the ID. Buzz that was introduced late last year, and the strong ID.4 sales in January to date.”

2026 BMW iX Facelift Debuts Cheaper $75k Base Model, New Grilles

  • The 2026 iX features a more efficient and powerful lineup, including a cheaper entry-level model.
  • Changes are evolutionary, with the facelift focusing on subtle tweaks to the exterior of the EV.
  • Production will begin in March, with the first 2026 BMW iXs landing in showrooms in Q2.

BMW’s EVs have been showing promise lately, with sales on the rise and plans for its fully electric lineup to make up more than half of total sales by 2030. However, one model that has struggled to hold consumer interest is the iX mid-size SUV, which started to feel a bit stale having been in the market since 2021.

To inject some life, BMW has presented the facelifted iX, with changes to its model hierarchy, exterior and interior updates, and some tweaks under the hood that result in a claimed 10 percent efficiency boost for the xDrive60 volume seller. Crucially for just about every potential owner, power is up over the outgoing model, as is range.

New Model Lineup

The 2026 iX gets a refreshed range of models, including a new entry-level spec. For starters, the models previously known as the xDrive50 and M60 have been bumped up to become the xDrive60 and M70, respectively. This is to reflect their (*cough* relatively modest *cough*) increased outputs, but also — perhaps unintentionally — serves as another way to differentiate pre-facelift vs. post-facelift models.

Read: BMW i5 Gains Range, X3 And 2-Series GC Get New Engines For 2025

The xDrive60 gets 536 hp (400 kW / 543 PS) — up from the xDrive50’s 516 hp (385 kW / 523 PS) , while the M70 gets 650 hp (485 kW / 659 PS), 40 hp more than the M60. The xDrive60 will do the 0–60 mph (0–96 km/h) sprint in 4.4 seconds, with a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h). The M70 can get to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

That’s all well and good, but we suspect that most people will be more interested in the range improvements, with the new xDrive60 getting a 340-mile range (547 km), which is an increase of around 30 miles (48 km) from the previous model. The M70 sees a similar bump, with 302 miles (486 km) on the board as opposed to the 285 miles (458 km) of the M60. Range figures quoted are on the EPA test cycle.

Meet The Entry xDrive45

Okay, so this update isn’t exactly earth-shattering by the performance metrics. What may be more interesting to sales numbers is the introduction of a third model that will sit below the xDrive60. The xDrive45 comes to the US market, offering 402 hp (300 kW / 408 PS) and a 312-mile (502 km) range. It’ll even do the 0–60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in a not-too-shabby 4.9 seconds.

The xDrive45 doesn’t ditch a motor or sacrifice all-wheel drive, but instead packs a slightly less potent rear motor and sacrifices a bit of charging speed. Crucially, the starting MSRP will be almost $13,000 cheaper than the xDrive60, with the new entry-level iX priced at $75,150 before a $1,175 destination and handling fee.

Exterior Changes

The iX is still very much an iX, with no significant changes to the exterior design. If anything, the design language — Bugs Bunny grille notwithstanding (now available with illumination, yay) — has become slightly more restrained. The regular models now sport a grille with an internal diagonal treatment similar to other recent BMWs like the X3, while the M70 adopts a pattern reminiscent of the M3 and M4. There are lots of little tweaks around the car, but the main difference you’ll notice is the more seamless front and rear aprons. They’re less messy, with less contrasting black plastic.

Read: BMW Builds First ‘Near Series’ Neue Klasse iX3 SUVs

There are subtle differences for the M70, too, with Shadowline (BMW-speak for black) headlights and taillights, which can also be optioned with the M Sport and M Sport Professional packages. What the M70 gets exclusive to itself is a unique grille, black mirror caps, and exclusive alloy wheels.

Speaking of wheels, the iX comes with 20-inch wheels as standard, while 21- and 22-inch wheels are optional — but only if you go for one of those M packages. Meanwhile, the M70 can be optioned with 23-inch wheels for the first time, while the 21- and 22-inch rims feature 70 percent secondary aluminum, and all of those alloys get plastic inserts for aero-efficiency.

Better Seats And Climate Package

The interior remains a familiar place, with BMW’s curved display, Operating System 8.5, and other tech aspects remaining the same as before. The most significant change inside the 2026 iX is the addition of the new New M Multi-Function seats — they’re standard on the top-of-the-line M70, but to get these enhanced captain’s chairs on the xDrive45 of xDrive60, you’ll need to plump for the M Sport Package.

BMW says the seats get pronounced contouring and improved lateral support with a range of adjustments, including backrest width, lumbar support, and active seat ventilation. They come in a variety of materials, such as microfibre/Sensatec in Atlas Grey/Black with M-specific stitching, Amido natural leather, or Castanea natural leather.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Advances have been made to the heating in the BMW iX, too. There’s a new, more efficient heat pump that allows waste heat from the drivetrain, battery, and surrounding air to be used to warm the cabin. It can also be used to warm the iX battery and driver system as another way of extending the range of the iX.

There’s a new Climate Comfort Package in the 2026 BMW iX that takes full advantage of these advances for cold climates. This package includes seat heating for both the front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a heated armrest. Additionally, it incorporates a 4-zone automatic climate control system, allowing each passenger to customize their preferred temperature settings independently.

Pricing And Availability

While the introduction of the xDrive45 to the 2026 BMW iX range lowers the model’s base MSRP to $75,100, the xDrive60 will start at $88,500 — that’s an increase of $1,250 over the 2025 xDrive50. However, the M70 retains the same starting MSRP of $111,500 as the M60 it replaces. All prices, as mentioned above, do not include a $1,175 destination and handling fee.

The 2026 iX will begin production at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany in March 2025, and deliveries are expected to commence in the second quarter of this year.

Chevrolet Spark Returns As A Rebadged Chinese EV For South America

  • Chevrolet unveiled the new Spark EUV during a special event in Brazil.
  • The electric SUV is essentially a rebadged Baojun Yep Plus from China.
  • It will likely share the same specs, offering an affordable price tag.

Chevrolet has found a clever (read: cost-effective) way to make the most of its SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture by rebadging one of China’s most charming EVs, the Baojun Yep Plus. This fully electric urban SUV made an unexpected debut during a special event celebrating Chevrolet’s 100th anniversary in the Brazilian market.

The new model, set to be sold in Brazil as the Chevrolet Spark EUV, is essentially a Baojun Yep Plus with a Chevy badge stuck on the grille—no other major changes to speak of. Despite sharing a name and compact proportions, the Spark EUV has absolutely nothing in common with the Spark EV, Chevrolet’s short-lived electric hatchback sold in select states in the US from 2013 to 2017 before being phased out for the Bolt.

While GM hasn’t revealed the full specs or a launch timeline for the Spark EUV, the announcement did come with a broader promise: the company plans to introduce 10 new models to the Brazilian market by 2025, with five of them categorized as “major” launches. The Spark EUV, given its potential appeal and positioning, is likely one of the more significant additions.

Chevrolet Spark Returns As A Rebadged Chinese EV For South America

Based on the dimensions of the Baojun Yep Plus at 3,996 mm (157.3 inches) long with a 2,560 mm (100.8 inches) wheelbase, the Spark EUV will take the crown as Chevrolet’s smallest offering. While the Baojun Yep Plus lineup includes a five-door version, a three-door variant, and even a pickup concept, it’s unclear if Chevrolet plans to bring any of these alternative body styles to the Brazilian market alongside the rebadged model.

Chances are that the Spark EUV will borrow its powertrain directly from the Chinese-spec Baojun Yep Plus, which features a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS) and a 41.9 kWh battery pack. This setup offers a respectable 401 km (249 miles) of range on China’s CLTC cycle.

Inside, the Baojun Yep Plus features a modern digital cockpit with dual 10.2-inch displays and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) developed by none other than drone-maker DJI. The addition of an extra set of doors and a roomier four-seat cabin makes the Yep Plus significantly more practical than its smaller sibling, broadening its appeal to a wider range of buyers.

Perhaps the most compelling aspect of this tiny off-roader is its affordability. While Chevrolet hasn’t revealed Brazilian pricing yet, the identical Baojun Yep Plus starts at just ¥93,800 (around $12,900) in China.

In addition to unveiling the Chevrolet Spark EUV, the company also announced a 100th Anniversary Special Series trim for the Onix, Tracker, and S10, an exclusive lineup designed specifically for the Brazilian market.

Note: Our lead photo shows a Baojun Yep Plus with a photoshopped Chevrolet badge. Official images of the Spark EUV haven’t been released yet, but the model did make its debut at the recent event, as seen in the video below.

2027 Alfa Romeo Giulia Will Be A Crossover, Abandoning Its Sedan Roots

  • Alfa Romeo’s new CEO confirms the next-gen Giulia will adopt a completely new bodystyle.
  • The sedan will morph into a crossover, sharing its STLA Large platform with the next Stelvio.
  • The Giulia will feature advanced infotainment, AI integration, and a more sophisticated ADAS suite.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is set for a major transformation, shifting from its classic sedan form to an all-new crossover design. Sharing its platform with the new Stelvio SUV that’s expected later this year, the next-generation Giulia will feature a more advanced interior, AI-powered tech, and upgraded driver-assistance systems. With the designs for both models now finalized, Alfa Romeo’s CEO has confirmed the Giulia’s new direction.

More: Alfa Romeo Scraps EV-Only Plan As Dealers Warn Of Sales Collapse

Santo Ficili, Alfa Romeo’s new CEO (also overseeing Maserati), spilled the beans in an interview with French outlet L’Argus. Ficili confirmed that the Giulia will embrace “a new design and a new type of bodywork.” While he kept the details vague, he said that the next Giulia will continue to share its platform with the Stelvio, leaving the rest to our imaginations. “So you can imagine what kind of vehicle we will offer,” Ficili added, subtly pointing toward a more elevated and SUV-like stance for the future Giulia.

Fastback Crossover Vibes

Don’t expect a traditional crossover, though. Instead, imagine the sleeker fastback designs we’ve recently seen from other Stellantis brands in Europe. Yes, it’s a bit confusing—welcome to the ever-expanding multiverse of crossovers and SUVs we live in.

According to sources, the Giulia will follow suit with a streamlined silhouette reminiscent of the DS No8, Peugeot 408, Citroen C5 X, and the upcoming Lancia Gamma. Essentially, Alfa Romeo isn’t abandoning its signature style, but it is swapping its sharp-edged sedan roots for something more aligned with today’s crossover-loving crowd.

Meanwhile, Alfa’s design evolution will keep moving forward. Design boss Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos previously revealed that all future models will forgo the quirky, off-center license plate placement, courtesy of modern pedestrian safety regulations.

Additionally, the Giulia and Stelvio will sport an updated version of the iconic scudetto grille, which now doubles as an EV-friendly canvas for showcasing the Alfa Romeo emblem’s graphics, as seen on the Junior. The automaker has previously teased the taillight signature of the Stelvio, which echoes the triangular shape of the scudetto, tying the front and rear aesthetics together.

Both the Stelvio and Giulia are set to embrace more cutting-edge interiors, featuring an advanced AI-infused infotainment system and a more refined ADAS suite to boost their autonomous driving capabilities.

STLA Large Underpinnings, EV And Hybrid Options

Unlike the DS No8 and Lancia Gamma crossover fastbacks, which are built on the STLA Medium platform, the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio will upgrade to the larger STLA Large architecture, also used in the latest Dodge Charger. However, Alfa Romeo’s CEO has assured that the Italian models will feature a unique setup, noting that the brand’s engineers have “changed things” to distinguish them from the American muscle car.

The 2026 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be the first European model to utilize the STLA Large platform. Discussing the powertrain lineup for the upcoming SUV, CEO Santo Ficili stated, “To date, the new Stelvio is only planned to be 100% electric. But we are also working on hybrid versions.” While Ficili didn’t provide details about the Giulia, it’s reasonable to expect that the crossover will follow suit with both EV and hybrid options.

Review: Our Alfa Romeo Tonale Tributo Italiano Tester Costs $60,000

This multi-energy strategy aligns with recent news that Alfa Romeo has abandoned its plans to transition into an EV-only automaker. The decision follows a similar shift by other Stellantis brands, including Lancia, signaling a broader move toward flexibility in powertrain offerings.

The Cassino plant in Italy will continue to serve as the production hub for both the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. The first units of the Stelvio SUV are expected to roll off the assembly line in July 2025, following its rumored spring debut and ahead of its market launch later that year. Meanwhile, the Giulia crossover is likely to make its debut sometime in 2026.

Honda Developing Sub-$30K EV For North America

  • Honda is reportedly preparing to build a bargain-priced EV in the US as soon as 2026.
  • The sub-$30k electric car will allegedly be built in Ohio and part of a new range of vehicles.
  • Achieving price parity with ICE cars will be crucial for demand if Trump axes EV tax credits.

Honda’s Prologue EV has been a massive success for the brand and it sounds like the Japanese automaker is keen to capitalize on that success. Honda is working on a brand new baby EV that could cost less than $30,000 and be on sale in America as early as 2026.

That’s according to Japan’s financial news website Nikkei, which claims the new electric model will be built in Ohio and is one of seven cars from a new O-series lineup due to launch by 2030.

Related: Honda’s 0 Saloon EV Looks Like A Lambo Gallardo Sedan From The Future

Building the new EV in the US will ensure it is exempt from steep tariffs President Trump wants to place on imports, and pushing the MSRP below $30k will mean the EV will be as affordable as some ICE models. That’ll be essential for success if Trump comes good on his promise to scrap tax credits for electric vehicles.

Achieving that low price point will reportedly come down to limiting the size of the battery, which is the most expensive part of an electric car and makes up around 30 percent of the production cost. But to ensure the EV range is still reasonable – the Honda e sold outside of the US (and pictured in our lead image at the top of this story) could only manage 140 miles (225 km) on a charge – engineers will focus on cutting overall weight.

Honda Developing Sub-$30K EV For North America
US-built Prologue EV uses GM tech and has been a big hit for Honda

Nikkei says the small EV will come after two more EVs, an SUV and a sedan it expects to cost between $50-60k. The first of those O-series models will enter production late this year. Honda showcased a pair of futuristic concepts at this January’s CES tech event and promised that their production versions would be in showrooms by 2026. You can check them out in the gallery below.

Given the success of the Prologue, which is built around GM Ultium hardware and twinned with the Chevy Equinox EV, it’s possible that Honda could base its baby EV on the next Chevrolet Bolt. The previous Bolt went out of production at the end of 2023 but Chevy will launch an all-new model this year that should cost less than $30,000.

Other automakers allegedly planning EVs at that price point include Tesla and Ford, who are both concerned about the threat posed by Chinese brands, the only companies so far able to sell electric cars for the same price as combustion models.

BMW’s New X5 To Offer Hydrogen Model Developed With Toyota

  • The new X5 will feature Neue Klasse-inspired design but won’t use the new platform.
  • Maintaining several ICE versions will be important to ensure its success in the market.
  • The electric iX5 will feature BMW’s sixth-gen motors and an 800-volt architecture.

The next-generation BMW X5 won’t just spawn new ICE models and an all-electric iX5, but also a hydrogen-powered model according to a new report, which says it’s set to launch in 2028. Hot on the heels of a hugely successful 2024 that saw BMW top the US luxury segment, the new X5 family may help to boost the brand’s sales even higher.

We’ve known about the new X5 and iX5 models for quite some time. In July 2024, several prototypes were spied testing under thick camouflage, previewing their new Neue Klasse-inspired design. However, unlike the smaller iX3 which will use the Neue Klasse platform, the X5 range is expected to be based on an upgraded version of BMW’s existing Cluster Architecture (CLAR).

Read: BMW To Launch A Hydrogen Car In 2028 With Toyota’s Help

According to a report from Autocar, the existing platform was chosen because of the necessity of combustion-powered X5 models, and the Neue Klasse platform has been developed predominantly for EVs. However, this isn’t to say the iX5 will be behind the iX3 on the technology front. It’ll still use BMW’s sixth-generation motors, an 800-volt electrical architecture, and round battery cells boasting improved energy density.

For customers who aren’t interested in an X5 with a traditional ICE or as an EV, there will be a hydrogen-powered version. It will use a powertrain developed alongside Toyota, and while limited details are known, it’ll most certainly boast many improvements over the iX5 Hydrogen prototype from a couple of years ago. That vehicle boasted a front-mounted fuel-cell stack, and two hydrogen tanks, making a respectable 396 hp.

SH Proshots

On the more affordable corner of the new X5 range, you’ll find 48-volt mild-hybrid versions with 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six petrol and diesel engines. At launch, the X5 M60 will sit on top of the ICE range, rocking a turbo 3.0-liter straight-six plug-in hybrid in Europe, but the US will likely get a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. A high-performance iX5 M Performance with more than 600 hp is also on the cards.

US Sales Jump

Last year, BMW’s US sales jumped 2.5% to 371,346, thanks in part to a 12% growth in demand for its EVs. While speaking with Auto News after the recent National Automobile Dealers Association’s convention in New Orleans, BMW of North America chief executive Sebastian Mackensen expressed hope for this year.

“We’re going very optimistically into ’25 and think it will be a great year for BMW in the US,” Mackensen said. He added that BMW is well-positioned to meet shifting customer preferences. “If they want a BMW which drives with an electric drivetrain, we have great options. If they want a BMW which has a combustion engine, we have great options as well” he told the publication.

Tesla Latest Carmaker To Sue EU Over EV Tariffs

  • The EU hit Tesla with an additional 7.8% tariff for Model 3s exported to Europe from China.
  • An investigation found that the Chinese government had provided unfair subsidies to local brands.
  • Tesla accounted for roughly 28% of all Chinese-made EVs exported to Europe in 2023.

Just days after it was confirmed that BMW, Geely, SAIC, and BYD, were suing the European Union, it’s been revealed that Tesla is doing the same. The action was taken by Tesla’s subsidiary in China and comes in response to EU tariffs placed against electric vehicles built in China and exported to Europe.

In the filing made with The European Court of Justice, Tesla did not provide details about its argument against the tariffs. What we do know is that the case will be heard by the second-highest court in the EU, the General Court, in a process that could take roughly 18 months.

Read: BMW Teams Up With Chinese EV Makers To Fight EU Tariffs In Court

Tesla is one of many car manufacturers impacted by the European Union’s tariffs against Chinese-made EVs. However, the tariffs levied against it are significantly smaller than those of its rivals. Following an investigation that stretched on for over a year, the EU found that Chinese brands had benefited from government subsidies, giving them a competitive advantage and allowing them to sell EVs cheaper than many Western carmakers.

Tesla was hit with an additional tariff of 7.8% in October last year following the probe, in addition to the pre-existing 10% levy. By comparison, BYD was hit with a 17% tariff hike, Geely got 18.8%, and SAIC received a hefty 35.3%. The EU found that Tesla had received the smallest amount of Chinese government support, hence why its tariff is smaller.

Tesla Latest Carmaker To Sue EU Over EV Tariffs

Although Tesla is an American company, it builds Model 3s in Shanghai and exports them to Europe. According to The Financial Times, Tesla accounted for approximately 28% of all Chinese-made EVs imported to the EU in 2023.

Olof Gill, a spokesperson from the European Commission responded to Tesla’s filing, saying, “We’re prepared to defend our case in court as necessary.”

Genesis Goes EV-Only In The UK, But Hybrids Are Coming

  • Genesis’ EV-only UK lineup comprises the GV60, the Electrified GV70, and the Electrified GV80.
  • The gas and diesel offerings are being offered from stock, but some are already selling out.
  • Still, the company has confirmed that hybrid models will join the UK lineup in the future.

Genesis has axed all ICE-powered models from its UK lineup, with the goal of becoming a “fully electrified brand” within 2025. Setting aside the remaining stock of ICE offerings, the Korean brand has a range of three EVs, that will be joined by hybrids in the future.

Starting with the discontinued models, Genesis said that the G70 sedan, G70 Shooting Brake, GV70, and GV80 with gasoline and diesel powertrains are now sold from stock, although, according to the company, some of them are “already selling out”. Once these examples are gone, UK buyers will only have access to a trio of EVs.

Hyundai Rethinks Rickshaw With Indian Three- And Four-Wheelers

  • No details have been provided about the electric powertrains of the two models.
  • Hyundai is investigating the use of water-resistant interior materials for the duo.
  • The three-wheeler may be built in India and the four-wheeler could be sold globally.

The classic rickshaw, or tuk-tuk, could get a serious reinvention thanks to Hyundai. Last week, the car manufacturer announced a partnership with TVS Motor Company in India and unveiled concept versions of its new three-wheeler and micro four-wheelers. These vehicles preview models aimed at tackling India’s huge last-mile mobility market. They haven’t been confirmed for production yet, but could hit the streets in the future.

Perhaps the most interesting of the new EVs is the aptly named Electric Three-Wheeler Concept. It has a familiar footprint to classic rickshaws but adopts a retro-modern design, making it look unlike anything else on the market. According to Hyundai, the height of the body is adjustable, meaning that not even monsoons and flooded roads would be able to hold it back.

The front end of the concept includes a diagonal windshield, small LED headlights, and a configurable screen that can be customized to display different messages. It comes standard with larger wheels than a typical rickshaw, includes a towing hook, and promises a comfortable seating position for the driver. The three-wheeler also rocks a small cluster and a phone holder.

Intriguing features don’t stop there. Hyundai is investigating the use of a heat-reducing black paint for the roof. It’s also working on water-resistant materials to cover interior surfaces, ensuring the electric tuk-tuk would be comfortable in all conditions.

Hyundai Rethinks Rickshaw With Indian Three- And Four-Wheelers

Hyundai’s four-door, four-wheeled concept maintains many of the same features as its smaller sibling but adds an extra front seat. The brand is looking to build the three-wheeler in partnership with TVS in India, while the four-wheeler is still under review but could be focused on global markets if approved. No technical details about the powertrains of the two vehicles have been announced.

“Hyundai Motor is a customer-centric brand, and caring for people in India is our first mission,” executive vice president and head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design, SangYup Lee, said. “This commitment has driven us to explore designing micro-mobility solutions tailored to India’s unique environment, reimagining the iconic three-wheeler to enhance mobility experiences through thoughtful design.”

Audi Q8 E-Tron Dies Next Month As Brussels Plant Set To Close

  • Audi will cease production at its Brussels plant on February 28, killing the Q8 e-tron in the process.
  • The plant will then be closed, resulting in approximately 3,000 people losing their jobs.
  • Volkswagen’s German plants could avoid a similar fate thanks to Chinese automakers looking to expand into Europe.

Audi’s Brussels plant has a date with destiny as the company has confirmed production of the Q8 e-tron will end on February 28. The plant will then be closed and approximately 3,000 employees will be out of work.

This has been a contentious issue, but labor and management recently agreed on a “social plan” that works for everyone. The automaker didn’t go into detail, but said “In addition to the voluntary company bonus already announced, the social plan includes many further measures of support that are open to all employees.
