This Retro SUV From China Costs Less Than A Used Versa

  • The kit includes a military-inspired matte green wrap and black steel wheels.
  • iCar sells single and dual-motor versions of the V23 with up to 211 hp.
  • A special front grille, black bumpers, and a hood-mounted spotlight are featured.

A small but growing number of automakers are figuring out how to make EVs weird in all the right ways. Among them is Chery’s iCar brand, which has a few unconventional offerings, but none more intriguing than the V23. This chunky SUV looks like someone merged a Land Rover Defender with a Suzuki Jimny in a design studio that really loves straight lines. And now, it’s gotten even more eccentric with a retro-styled body kit.

The standard V23 already plays the retro card well, thanks to its squared-off profile, upright front and rear ends, and pronounced fender flares that give it a solid presence. But the new ‘Retro Emotion Package’ takes it further with a matte green wrap that feels perfectly suited to its aesthetic. It might look slightly out of place in a downtown traffic jam, but out in the wild, it fits right in.

Read: Chery’s iCar Expands Its Lineup With Rugged Minivans And Tougher SUVs

Complementing the special wrap is a unique front grille and a blacked-out front bumper. iCar has then added a large spotlight on the hood. Admittedly, it looks a little cheap, and the brand perhaps would have been better to add a set of more traditional circular spotlights to the front end.

Adding to the visual makeover are black rocker panels, side steps, and a set of 19-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. So yes, it’s dressed to look like it could leave the pavement behind, whether or not it ever will.

\\\\\\\\

Apparently, iCar was quite serious about developing an upgrade kit that doesn’t just look the part but serves some purpose. According to a report from China’s Ithome, that the matte green wrap has a special anti-glare treatment to meet military vehicle concealment standards. Additionally, the front grille can be quickly and easily removed and replaced by owners.

Considering how affordable most EVs are in China, it’s no shock that this upgrade kit follows suit. Depending on the configuration, it’s priced between 4,000 and 10,500 yuan, or roughly $550 to $1,450 at current exchange rates. As for the V23 itself, pricing starts at 109,800 yuan (about $15,000) and tops out at 149,800 yuan (around $20,500), which keeps the whole setup firmly planted in the budget EV bracket.

To put that in perspective, the base version costs about the same as a used 2021 Nissan Versa with 65,000 miles on the clock – and considerably less personality, if we’re being honest.

Performance-wise, entry-level models come with a 136-horsepower motor driving the rear axle. Higher trims get a dual-motor setup with a total output of 211 horsepower, both modest numbers, but likely enough to keep this small SUV feeling sprightly on back roads and city streets alike.

Stellantis Turns Small SUV Into An Electric Rally Weapon

  • The Opel Mokka GSE Rally is built to meet the FIA’s new eRally5 regulations.
  • The rally car boasts a distinctive livery, a roof scoop, new wheels and bumpers.
  • It will be followed by a roadgoing Mokka GSE performance EV later this year.

Opel has given its GSE performance sub-brand for electric vehicles a fresh update, and before the first production model hits the streets, they’ve already rolled out a rally car. Named the Mokka GSE Rally, it’s a more rugged, performance-focused version of the compact SUV, featuring an electric powertrain and a suite of chassis upgrades.

Visually, the rally-ready Mokka stands out with a special livery featuring black, gray, and yellow graphics. It rolls on large alloy wheels with yellow brake calipers, and the sporty front and rear bumpers, along with a roof-mounted intake, set it apart from the standard Mokka Electric.

Some of these features, like the more aggressive body kit, will likely carry over to the roadgoing Opel Mokka GSE. This performance version of the electric SUV is expected to debut in late 2025, likely sharing specs with its mechanically similar counterparts, the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce.

Back to the rally car, it is compatible with the FIA’s new eRally5 regulations and will eventually replace the Opel Corsa Electric Rally that has been around since 2019. The SUV is fitted with a single electric motor delivering 278 hp (207 kW / 280 PS) and 345 Nm (255 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a multi-plate limited-slip differential and a racing transmission.

\\\\\\\\\\\

The 54 kWh battery pack is carried over from the Mokka Electric but gets added protection with a special encapsulation and underride guard. Chassis upgrades include a rally-spec suspension from Bilstein, with reinforced McPherson struts in the front and modified springs and dampers on the rigid rear axle. Additionally, the ABS, ESP, and traction control systems have been removed, giving drivers full freedom to push the Mokka to its limits across various terrains.

The interior of the rally car has been stripped out, and features a FIA-certified roll cage, as well as a pair of bucket seats with six-point harnesses. For safety, the 400-volt system will automatically shut down in the event of a collision, while the fire extinguishing system features an electrically non-conductive extinguishing agent.

Opel plans to offer the Mokka GSE Rally to private customers and teams starting in the 2026 rally season, but before that, you’ll get a chance to see the prototype in action at the ELE Rally Eindhoven in the Netherlands, set for May 23-24. This event is part of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, which will feature the Corsa Rally Electric, another electrified rally contender.

New Lexus RZ Skips The Yoke But Brings Simulated Gearbox To America

  • The 2026 RZ offers more power and range but skips steer-by-wire for U.S. models.
  • All trims now come equipped with a NACS plug for Tesla Supercharger compatibility.
  • The flagship RZ550e delivers 402 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds.

A few months ago, Lexus unveiled the 2026 RZ in its European-spec form, featuring steer-by-wire technology and simulated gears. Now, the updated RZ is headed to the North American market, and it comes with several upgrades including a new and improved battery, more power, and increased driving range.

Three versions of the 2026 RZ will be available in the US. Leading the charge at the base of the lineup is the new RZ 350e. It comes with a 74.69 kWh battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor producing 221 horsepower, 20 more than the outgoing RZ 300e. Lexus claims this version can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 7.2 seconds and offers an estimated range of around 300 miles (482 km) on a single charge.

Read: 2026 Lexus RZ Gets Yoked Steer-By-Wire And Simulated Gears

Next up is the RZ 450e AWD, which retains the same 74.69 kWh battery but adds an additional electric motor at the rear wheels, boosting the total output to 308 horsepower. This reduction in 0-60 mph time to 4.9 seconds is matched by a range of 260 miles (418 km).

Finally, there’s the new flagship RZ 550e F Sport AWD with a dual-motor setup. It swaps in a slightly larger 76.96 kWh battery, bumps the horsepower to 402, and cuts the 0-60 time to a much quicker 4.1 seconds. However, with an estimated driving range of 225 miles (362 km), it’s safe to say the RZ 550e isn’t exactly setting the standard for range in the EV market.

All 2026 RZ models heading to North America will come equipped with an NACS plug, and Lexus claims the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. Additionally, every model now comes standard with an 11 kW on-board AC charger, a noticeable upgrade from the 7 kW unit found in the previous generation.

\\\\

Curiously, it does not appear as though new RZ models to be sold in North America will have the same steer-by-wire as those sold internationally, including in Europe. Lexus has made no mention of the system in its local press release, and images released of the locally-specced model show it with a normal steering wheel, rather than the yoke that accompanies the steer-by-wire setup.

Virtual Shifts and a Spiffed-Up Interior

What we do know is that the RZ 550e F Sport AWD is the only version to offer Toyota’s M Mode virtual gear shift, which uses paddle shifters and is supposedly designed to provide “a sportier, more responsive driving feel.” Whether or not that’s true remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like something designed to make driving an electric vehicle feel just a little more interesting.

Inside, the 2026 RZ gets a few upgrades as well. A panoramic glass roof is now available, and it can switch from clear to opaque with the push of a button. The RZ 550e also gets some stylish black Ultrasuede trim with blue contrast stitching.

Lexus hasn’t revealed official pricing for the refreshed model yet, but it has confirmed that sales will begin later this year. Based on the pricing of the 2025 model year, the base models are expected to start around $45,000, with the new flagship RZ 550e likely pushing beyond $60,000.

Tesla Owner Hacks Model Y To Charge On Gas

  • Video from China shows a Tesla Model Y modified to be a hybrid.
  • A gasoline generator fed the SUV’s battery pack in emergencies.
  • The owner wanted range security while travelling to Mount Everest.

Even today, when most populated areas of the US and Europe provide access to at least some EV charging points, it’s all too easy to succumb to the panic of range anxiety when the remaining charge indicator lights up red. Now imagine you’re trying to explore rural Asia and you’ll understand why one EV owner came up with an unusual method of keeping range anxiety at bay.

Related: Cybertruck’s $16K Range Booster Is Dead And Tesla Isn’t Saying Why

The Chinese Tesla owner, who wanted to visit the Mount Everest viewing platform in Lazi County before road-tripping through uninhabited areas of Tibet, decided to turn his fully-electric Model Y into a kind of range-extender hybrid.

A Gasoline-Powered Back-Up Plan

To do it he mounted a gasoline generator to the rear of his SUV, complete with its own license plate to stay within the bounds of the law. The idea wasn’t to rely solely on the ICE power station and to avoid real static EV charging stations, but to help keep the Tesla going in remote areas where those chargers were few and far between.

While hardly capable of cranking out DC fast charging levels of power, the owner found it was still able to produce 3 kW even at the 17,400 ft (5,300 m) of the Everest viewing platform. That was enough to add 12 miles (19 km) of range per hour, though as Car News China points out, it’s not a true range extender because it can’t charge the Model Y on the move,

Tesla Owner Hacks Model Y To Charge On Gas
image: Xiaomo

The owner, who’s known as @Xiaomo, reportedly paid ¥2,800 ($390) for the generator, which swallowed around 22 US cents’ worth of gas for every mile (1.6 km) covered. That makes running on gas more expensive than running on electricity piped in from a cheap mains supply in China, but it’s certainly preferable to finding yourself stranded in the middle of nowhere with a dead EV.

Tesla doesn’t seem interested in offering range extenders for its cars, but we’ve come across plenty more owners who’ve had the same idea, including one who added a turbo-diesel engine to the trunk of his Model S.

Renault’s Retro R4 EV Could Get A Whole Lot More Interesting Soon

  • Renault has released a concept hinting at a production dual-motor R4.
  • The R4 Savane has an extra motor on the back and 15 mm chassis lift.
  • Tough makeover includes shock-absorbing bumpers and a wider track.

Renault’s retro 4 E-Tech crossover has only just hit the streets of Europe, and already the company is teasing us about a major upgrade. The 4 Savane is a rugged, off-road-themed concept that adds an extra motor to the EV’s rear axle, giving the 4 all-wheel drive for the first time.

Borrowing a name from one of the original R4s, the Savane gets a 15 mm (0.6 inches) body lift, and bespoke 18-inch wheels with Goodyear UltraGrip performance tires that increase the track width by 20 mm (0.79 inches) front and rear.

Related: The New Renault 4 E-Tech Makes For A Chic Beach Buggy

Its Jade Green paint is new to the R4 and topped by a printed fabric roof, while the stock bumper overriders are replaced by new 3D-printed parts with shock-absorbing properties. The interior also gets an outdoorsy theme courtesy of seats finished in Deep Brown and featuring houndstooth backrests and bolsters.

We hope you like brown because there’s more mud coloring on the dashboard, but the Savane’s real appeal is that it might also be able to handle some mud on its tires with an extra electric motor boosting traction.

The production 4 E-Tech rides on the same AmpR Small architecture as the award-winning Renault 5 E-Tech and its Alpine A290 brother, and all of those production cars are strictly single-motor, front-wheel drive affairs – the $180k, RWD  Renault 5 Turbo 3E rides on a totally different platform.

Renault’s Retro R4 EV Could Get A Whole Lot More Interesting Soon
Image: Renault

Single-motor Fours get a choice of 118 hp (120 PS / 88 kW) and 148 hp (150 PS / 110 kW) power units, so adding a second motor to the rear could theoretically push power close to 300 hp (304 PS / 224 kW), which is not far off 10 times as much power as the original Renault 4 had back in 1961. That wouldn’t just be the basis for a rugged Savane production car, but could enable Renault to get into the hot crossover market with an AWD Alpine spinoff.

Renault hasn’t confirmed the Savane, or a bi-motor 4 for production, saying only that it “demonstrates the potential of the AmpR Small platform to create a B-segment electric vehicle with four-wheel drive,” but it tends not to make concepts that don’t have real production intent. What we don’t yet know is whether the Renault 5, running on a shorter version of AmpR Small, could also accommodate a rear motor.

Jeep Shows New Compass In The Real World

  • Jeep has shared new photos of the new Compass in lime green with 20-inch alloy wheels.
  • The set celebrates Jeep’s sponsorship of Juventus F.C. that has been renewed for three years.
  • The Compass will enter production in late 2025, offering mild-hybrid, PHEV, and EV options.

The all-new Compass has officially made its European debut, though the initial press images offered only select glimpses of the new SUV in the studio. Thankfully, while renewing its sponsorship deal with Juventus F.C., Jeep pulled back the curtain with some fresh, more revealing shots of the car.

More: Which New Stellantis Compact SUV Would You Actually Buy?

This is the fully electric version of the all-new Compass shown in a striking lime green with a black roof – the same livery used in its original presentation. It adopts a boxier design compared to its predecessor with more muscular fenders, high-tech LEDs, and sharper lines on the front and rear bumpers.

This particular trim rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, which give it a more aggressive stance. The Willy’s Jeep graphic on the hub caps suggests it could be a launch edition with the usual Easter eggs. Another one we spotted is a small Willy’s face mounted on the front bumper intake. Speaking of intakes, they appear to be largely blocked in the electric variant, as is the seven-slot grille.

Jeep Shows New Compass In The Real World

The new design is combined with fresh underpinnings, as the Compass now rides on the STLA Medium architecture. This is compatible with various powertrain options including mild- and plug-in hybrid, as well as fully electric.

More: Which European Car Should Stellantis Import Or Rebadge For America?

The base model produces 145 hp from a mild-hybrid 1.2-liter four, while the more potent 1.6-liter plug-in hybrid powertrain generates a combined 195 hp. Finally, the electric variants start at 213 hp and go all the way up to 375 hp in flagship AWD form.

Production of the new Compass will start in late 2025 in Italy, followed by its market launch in European markets. As for North America, the availability of the SUV remains uncertain due to the tariffs.

Jeep Loves Juventus

Jeep has also announced its continued partnership with Juventus, serving as the Official Sponsor for the next three seasons. After a one-year hiatus, the Jeep logo will return to the jerseys of both men’s and women’s teams, this time joined by a “Visit Detroit” script.

GMC Just Made The 2026 Hummer EV Crabbier Than Ever

  • The 2026 GMC Hummer EV lineup includes a new Carbon Fiber Edition.
  • The fastest-ever Hummer accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds.
  • The EV also gains a new King Crab mode for improved maneuverability.

Even the most excessive EV on the market is still getting upgrades. For the 2026 model year, the GMC Hummer EV sees a series of small updates aimed at enhancing performance, off-road functionality, and overall refinement. A few of the improvements will even be offered retroactively to current owners, thanks to over-the-air updates.

Carbon Fiber Edition For Extreme Acceleration

Among the changes, the limited-run Carbon Fiber Edition stands out. Available for both Pickup and SUV versions, this trim builds on the top-tier 3X model but pushes performance even further. The truck version now launches from 0 to 60 mph (0–97 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds, down slightly from the already eye-widening “approximately 3 seconds” claimed by the outgoing model.

More: This Hummer EV Lost $45K Without Ever Touching a Driveway

According to GMC, this extra boost is the result of refined propulsion calibration, updated software, and some hardware tweaks. The updated 3X also comes with a 24-module battery pack delivering 1,160 hp (865 kW / 1,176 PS), up from the previous 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS).

Visually, the Carbon Fiber Edition gets 22-inch carbon fiber wheels, carbon accents on the mirror caps and skid plates, and an exclusive matte Magnus Gray exterior paired with black emblems. Inside, it features a Velocity Ember interior theme. GMC doesn’t mention any actual weight savings from the carbon fiber bits, which serve more aesthetic than functional purposes

\\\\\\\\\

Subtle Updates, Smarter Tech

Outside of the special edition, the 2026 Hummer lineup doesn’t get major styling revisions. However, two new exterior color options called Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte, have been added, along with new interior themes: Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse.

The tech front gets a more noticeable upgrade. The 13.4-inch infotainment screen now supports a customizable split-view layout, giving drivers quicker access to key data. The Super Cruise driver assistance system has also been updated, though details on those improvements are still limited

King Crab Mode For Everyone

Another highlight of the 2026 MY is the addition of the King Crab mode. This feature is standard in the 2X and 3X trims and will be available to all Hummer EV Pickup and SUV owners later this year through an over-the-air update. According to the company, the King Crab mode makes the rear wheels turn “significantly faster” than the front wheels, improving maneuverability in tight spaces and enhancing the rock crawling abilities of the Hummer.

Review: The 1,000 HP GMC Hummer EV Pickup Is Wonderfully Ridiculous

GMC engineers have also optimized the damper tuning of the EV, promising an improved ride quality. Furthermore, all versions of the Hummer are now compatible with bidirectional charging, meaning they can charge another vehicle, or power your entire home during a blackout.

Production of the 2026 GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV will take place at GM’s Factory ZERO Assembly Center in Michigan. The updated models are expected to hit U.S. dealerships later this year, with pricing and range details to be announced closer to launch, likely by late summer 2025.

Genesis Cranks The Ioniq 5 N Formula Up To 11

  • Genesis is expanding into performance vehicles, starting with the new GV60 Magma.
  • It shares its underpinnings and battery with the Ioniq 5 N but offers more power.
  • A slew of aerodynamic upgrades will be joined by chassis improvements.

Genesis was originally designed to be the luxury division of the Hyundai Group, but now, it’s branching out into performance territory. The brand is even stepping up to compete at Le Mans in the Hypercar class. Their first serious contender in the performance car market? The GV60 Magma, which was spotted doing hot laps at the Nurburgring.

As the debut product of its Magma performance sub-brand, this upcoming model is positioned to be a premium alternative to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT. It’s been in the works for some time and will be based on the facelifted GV60.

Read: Genesis Is Perfecting The GV60 Magma, Benchmarks It Against Hyundai Ioniq 5 N And Porsche Taycan

The GV60 Magma sets itself apart from the standard GV60 with a more aggressive front fascia, complete with aerodynamic canards on both sides and a larger splitter. As with other recent prototypes, it’s sporting sporty black wheels and bright red brake calipers. In a nod to the future, the Magma features cameras instead of traditional wing mirrors, a feature that’s already available on the current GV60 lineup.

Elsewhere, we can see the fenders have been modified, sporting aero ducts behind the front wheels and behind the rear ones. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS also has similar aero fins behind the front and rear wheels, although they are much larger. Genesis also looks to have taken inspiration from Weissach’s finest by adding aerodynamic strakes to the roof.

\\\\\\\\\\\\

Like the Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT, the GV60 Magma will probably use the same 84 kWh battery pack. The Hyundai tops out at 641 hp from its dual electric motors, while the facelifted EV6 GT out-muscles it slightly with 645 hp. According to our spies, the Genesis may offer up even more grunt, potentially pushing horsepower towards the 700 mark.

Much like its sibling models, the GV60 Magma is expected to include the Virtual Gear Shift function and an engine sound that mimics a traditional internal combustion engine.

GM’s Secret Battery Breakthrough Could Slash EV Costs

  • GM and LG will put lithium manganese-rich (LMR) batteries into production by 2028.
  • These use a unique cell chemistry that has high amounts of manganese and little cobalt.
  • The new batteries promise a 33% higher energy density than LFP batteries at a comparable cost.

General Motors and LG Energy have announced plans to use lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic battery cells in electric trucks and full-size SUVs. The automaker intends to be the first to use LMR batteries and production is slated to begin by 2028.

GM says LMR batteries are a breakthrough as traditional battery cathodes require nickel, manganese, and expensive cobalt. This drives up prices and makes EVs expensive.

More: Stellantis’ Solid-State Battery With 18-Minute Fast Charging Is Almost Ready

LMR batteries seek to address this by using a “higher proportion of more affordable manganese.” They also promise to deliver a “greater capacity and energy density.”

The companies didn’t go into many specifics, but said their new LMR prismatic battery cell has a  33% higher energy density than the best-performing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, despite having a comparable cost.

\\\

So what does this all mean? We can expect an electric truck that delivers more than 400 miles (644 km) of range as well as “significant battery pack cost savings compared to today’s high-nickel pack.” That would be a welcome development as the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV LT Extended Range starts at $75,195 and has an EPA-estimated range of up to 408 miles (657 km).

GM’s director of advanced battery cell engineering said the batteries are the result of a decade of development. Kushal Narayanaswamy went on to say GM’s current crop of electric trucks and SUVs use NMCA batteries and these have a composition that is roughly 85% nickel, 10% manganese, and 5% cobalt. LMR batteries are vastly different as they’re about 65% manganese, 35% nickel, and use “virtually no cobalt.” In effect, they use more of the cheaper materials and less of the expensive ones.

Toyota Kills bZ4X To Welcome New bZ

  • The 2026 Toyota bZ now offers up to 338 hp, significantly increasing power output.
  • The refreshed EV includes dual wireless charging pads and relocated controls.
  • With a new NACS charging port, the bZ can now access Tesla’s Supercharger network.

After making its debut in Europe, the updated Toyota bZ4x is finally hitting American shores, but not as we remember it. You see, while the European model retains the original name, the North American version will now simply be called the Toyota bZ. And this isn’t just a rebranding, as there are notable upgrades in styling, technology, and performance.

Sharper Looks and Subtle Design Tweaks

Starting with the design, the outgoing bZ4x already had Toyota’s “hammerhead” front end, but the new bZ steps it up with sharper LED headlights and more aggressive bumper intakes. These tweaks are complemented by fresh alloy wheel designs, available in 18- or 20-inch sizes, giving the crossover a more refined and polished appearance.

More: The World’s Biggest Carmaker Just Warned Of A Tremendously Bad Year Ahead

The rest of the exterior remains largely unchanged, but now the fenders are available with a body-color finish, giving a noticeable update to the overall design of the 184.6-inch (4,690 mm) long crossover. That said, body-colored fenders are only offered with the Wind Chill Pearl, Heavy Metal, and Black exterior colors, so your options are somewhat limited.

Tech and Comfort Inside

Inside, the dashboard sees a refresh with a larger 14-inch infotainment touchscreen now standard across the range, paired with dual wireless chargers and customizable 64-color ambient lighting. Toyota has also introduced paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, giving drivers the ability to adjust the level of regenerative braking.

More Power And Range

While the exterior and interior changes are relatively mild, the real action is happening under the hood. The bZ still rides on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, but engineers have made significant improvements to both the powertrain and battery options.

More: America’s 2026 Corolla Cross Looks Sharper But It’s Missing Something

The dual electric motors in the AWD version deliver a combined 338 hp (252 kW / 343 PS), while the single motor in the FWD version produces 221 hp (165 kW / 224 PS). By comparison, the outgoing bZ4x offered 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) in the AWD version and 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) in the FWD. Like its predecessor, the AWD Toyota bZ comes equipped with the X-Mode function, enhancing grip on slippery surfaces.

More importantly, the Toyota bZ offers a 25% increase in driving range over the bZ4x, with an estimated 314 miles (505 km) between charges. This boost is thanks to a slightly larger 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, available with both FWD and AWD powertrains. There will also be a base FWD model featuring a smaller 57.7 kWh battery pack, offering a still-impressive 236 miles (380 km) of range.

\\\\\

Like its recently updated Subaru Solterra twin, the 2026 Toyota bZ is compatible with the North American Charging System (NACS), giving drivers access to the Tesla Supercharger network. Toyota claims the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes when plugged into a fast DC charger, and it also features a new battery preconditioning function for more efficient charging.

Availability

The 2026 Toyota bZ is expected to land in U.S. dealerships in the second half of the year. The lineup will feature the XLE and Limited trims in both FWD and AWD configurations, with two battery options available. Pricing will be revealed closer to the release date.

Currently, the Toyota bZ remains the company’s sole EV offering in North America, standing alone among a sea of gas, hybrid, and PHEV models. But that won’t last long. Toyota plans to unveil its own version of the Subaru Trailseeker in the near future, expanding its EV lineup with a larger and more spacious crossover/SUV.

Ferrari’s First EV Could Supercharge Its Sales In The World’s Biggest Market

  • Ferrari’s Elettrica will likely benefit from much lower taxes compared to ICE-powered models.
  • China’s booming luxury EV market makes the brand’s first electric model a strategic asset.
  • Recent patents suggest the Elettrica might feature fake sounds and a virtual transmission.

Ferrari’s first electric vehicle isn’t just a step towards reducing the automaker’s overall emissions, but it could also play a pivotal role in reviving the brand’s sluggish sales in China. However, despite the growing importance of EVs in China’s market, locals will have to exercise some patience, as deliveries of the Elettrica won’t begin until at least October next year.

Read: Listen To Ferrari’s EV Prototype Fake V8 Sounds

In addition to China being a booming market for EVs, there’s a growing fascination with high-performance electric models across the country, making it an ideal fit for Ferrari. Even better, the car, currently referred to as the Elettrica, will benefit from a much more favorable tax structure than Ferrari’s traditional gas-powered models.

While local taxes on the brand’s internal combustion engine (ICE) cars can reach up to four times the price of the vehicle, the Elettrica is expected to be taxed at a much more manageable 30% of its retail price.

Sales Decline Amid Economic Slowdown

According to Bloomberg, Ferrari’s shipments to China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan dropped 25% in the first quarter of the year, marking the lowest figures in almost four years. This decline is partly attributed to China’s economic slowdown, which led to a 20% decrease in sales of vehicles priced above 500,000 yuan (about $69,200). In 2024, this drop resulted in only 677,000 units being sold in that segment.

Earlier this month, Ferrari revealed that it will preview the powertrain of the Elettrica this October, before debuting the vehicle in full next spring. It is shaping up to be a hatchback-style crossover similar to the Purosangue, although it is tipped to be slightly smaller.

While Ferrari has kept many details under wraps, we do know that the vehicle’s battery pack, inverters, and electric motors are all being developed and produced in Italy. Recent patents also indicate that Ferrari might give the vehicle fake gears, much like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, as well as an ICE-inspired soundtrack.

The most recent patent says the Elettrica’s electric motors could be used to simulate the changing torque of a traditional engine and transmission. These virtual gears could be activated automatically based on throttle and brake outputs, or operated manually with the paddle shifters.

This Is Where Supercars And Exotics Meet Their Maker

  • Photographer Larry Chen toured Dubai’s vast junkyards, revealing a trove of wrecked supercars.
  • Among the finds was a nearly new, but damaged Lotus Eletre, likely waiting to be dismantled.
  • The junkyard also included exotic models from Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren, and Rolls-Royce.

The Middle East is home to an impressive array of supercars and exotic vehicles, which, unsurprisingly, sometimes meet unfortunate fates. These damaged cars often end up in junkyards, where they are dismantled for spare parts. Hagerty recently explored some of the vast automotive graveyards of Dubai and unearthed a few noteworthy discoveries, most notably, a wrecked example of the brand-new Lotus Eletre.

Lotus introduced its first fully electric SUV, the Eletre, in 2022, though deliveries didn’t officially begin until 2024. The example found in the junkyard doesn’t appear to have any obvious cosmetic damage, so those shiny yellow body panels might still be good for salvage. However, the air suspension has failed, causing the car to sit lower than usual, and the door handles are popped out, likely due to some internal issues.

While the specific details of the Lotus Eletre’s condition are unclear, it’s possible that it was involved in one of the flash floods reported in the refion, which could easily spell the end for any car, especially one with so much advanced electronics inside. Depending on how high the water reached, the electronics could be toast, and the cabin could have taken on some serious damage.

An Unexpected Collection of Exotics

This yellow Eletre is just one of many sporty and luxury vehicles that keep piling up in Dubai’s junkyards. Well-known automotive photographer Larry Chen, based in Los Angeles, recently toured one of these vast yards, showcasing a variety of damaged vehicles from brands like Bentley, Rolls-Royce, McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin, and Maserati.

According to Chen, it was likely one of the most colorful junkyards he’s ever visited, thanks to the eye-catching color palettes found in high-end cars.

The video, shared on Hagerty’s YouTube channe, offers a closer look at the incredible variety of vehicles and their varying degrees of damage. As Chen pointed out, the junkyard is well-organized, with specific rooms dedicated to various car parts.

That’s good news for anyone hoping to salvage some components, because, as he noted, some parts can be eye-wateringly expensive. A set of carbon ceramic brakes, for example, could cost up to $50k when purchased new. The same applies for body panels, accessories, and mechanical components from high-end cars like the V12-powered Ferrari 812 Superfast.

A nearby junkyard also focuses on American muscle cars, from brands like Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge, providing spare parts to meet the demand in that market.

Overall, Chen was impressed by the range of enthusiast vehicles found in the junkyard, a rare sight in many US-based yards. These types of cars, often worth far more than a standard junkyard find, tell an interesting story of how some of the world’s most coveted machines can end up discarded. China’s iCar Is Making A SUV With Defender Looks And Dacia Pricing

  • Chery’s iCar SUV might look like a Land Rover, but it’s expected to be priced like a Dacia.
  • The expected price range of $28K-$34K make it a budget-friendly option in the 4×4 market.
  • It will likely feature a range-extender powertrain, combining gasoline and electric power.

It’s no secret that Chinese automakers have been stepping up their design game, but sometimes, their inspiration tends to come from, let’s just say, more familiar places than they’d probably admit. Chery’s fairly new iCar brand already offers a few intriguing models, and now it’s working on a 4×4 that looks suspiciously like a Land Rover Defender.

However, unlike the British icon, this one comes without the history or prestige, meaning it’ll be far more affordable. It’s also expected to launch as a range-extender EV, which, if you haven’t noticed, is the current industry fallback for “We wanted to go fully electric but weren’t quite ready.”

Read: Chery’s iCar Expands Its Lineup With Rugged Minivans And Tougher SUVs

While the name iCar might bring to mind Apple’s long-abandoned EV project, it has no connection whatsoever to the tech giant. That said, the Chery-owned brand hasn’t just borrowed Apple’s naming vibe, as it also seems eager to echo the design of another Western staple, the current Land Rover Defender, all while keeping some visual ties to its own lineup, like the X23.

Spy photos from China’s Autohome reveal a front fascia that closely mirrors the Land Rover Defender, featuring headlights and a grille design that look nearly identical. The prototype also sports a blacked-out bumper, black fender flares, and matching rocker panels, all contributing to its deliberately rugged appearance.

The similarities keep piling up along the sides. There are small black vents on the quarter panel and chunky door handles. One notable difference is the fact that the iCar’s side windows appear much larger than those of the Defender and they seem to sit slightly below the line of the windshield. So there’s that.

Autohome

At the rear, the prototype sports four square LED taillights. The third brake light has been positioned where you’d usually expect to find a spare wheel carrier, although for the iCar, it will likely serve as a small storage box.

Limited technical specifications are known about the model. However, Chery already has an impressive range-extender powertrain in its line-up that drives the Exlantix ET crossover and consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and two electric motors.

Familiar Face for a Fraction of the Cost

As for price, Chinese media outlets suggest a starting range between 200,000 yuan (around $27,600 at current exchange rates) and 250,000 yuan (roughly $34,500), making it significantly cheaper than anything coming out of Solihull. For comparison, the current Defender, the real one, starts from 688,000 yuan ($95,000), or more than three times the rumored price of the still-unnamed iCar SUV.

Which New Stellantis Compact SUV Would You Actually Buy?

  • Stellantis’ four compact SUVs share a platform but diverge in design, tech, and target markets.
  • The Jeep Compass, Citroen C5, Opel Grandland, Peugeot 3008 and 5008 face off in a styling duel.

Stellantis isn’t just a car company; it’s a continent-spanning brand collective with a habit of churning out crossovers like a bakery pumps out croissants. With names from Italy, France, Germany, and the US under its belt, it’s no surprise that many of its mainstream models share bones beneath the surface. That includes its latest crop of compact SUVs, which use common underpinnings while each clings to its own visual identity in a crowded, hyper-competitive segment.

More: Which European Car Should Stellantis Import Or Rebadge For America?

Among these mechanically-linked cousins, Jeep, Citroen, Opel, and Peugeot each toss their hat into the ring with subtly different flavors, all aiming for the same buyers and the same wallets. On paper, they have more in common than not, but visually there’s enough variation to make a side-by-side design comparison worthwhile.

Thus, we lined them up and now it’s your turn to tell us which one you’d actually want in your driveway. Even if it’s theoretical since most of you won’t get the chance, as Europe is the only region where all of them are currently on sale.

The Compact Contenders

\\\\\

The contenders include the newly revealed Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross, Opel Grandland, and the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. In the future, they should be joined by the DS No7, which will replace the current DS7. While earlier generations of the European models rode on the PSA-era EMP2 platform, the Jeep is the newcomer to this shared architecture, having recently moved from its old FCA roots to the STLA Medium platform.

As mentioned, none of these SUVs are currently sold in the US. The Compass might eventually cross the Atlantic, but Jeep is still “assessing the situation,” which is just a polite way of saying “we’re waiting to see how messy the trade tariffs get” as the company has paused work at the Canadian plant it was supposed to build the North American version.

As mentioned, none of these SUVs are currently offered in the US. The Compass has the best shot at making the jump, but Jeep is still “assessing the situation” – which is the polite way of saying they’re waiting to see just how messy the trade tariffs get. In the meantime, the company has paused work at the Canadian plant that was originally set to build the North American version.

Same Platform, Different Personalities

\\\\\

All five SUVs ride on the same platform but feature different bodywork. The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 are the only ones that look like twins from the front, while the others keep their sheet metal to themselves. That gave designers enough freedom to inject some brand DNA, even if the proportions are dictated by the shared architecture.

Front-end design is where the Jeep leans hard into its off-road roots, with a squared-up face, seven-slot grille, and thick plastic cladding. The Citroen goes the other way, aiming for futuristic with split headlights and decorative intakes that do more looking than actually breathing.

More: DS No8 Breaks Cover As The New French Electric Flagship

Peugeot’s models take the sporty route, wearing slim headlights and sharp LED “claws” that stretch into the grille. Opel’s Grandland plays it conservative, wearing the brand’s “Vizor” face that’s more subtle, though definitely modern.

\\\\\

Side profiles offer more variety. Jeep stays on-brand with boxy fenders and trapezoidal arches, giving it the most “adventure-ready” stance. Peugeot gives the 3008 a coupe-style roofline, making it the swoopier of the bunch, while the 5008 keeps it upright for max cargo space. The Citroen C5 Aircross adds curves and quirky details, staying true to its contrarian reputation, while Opel again plays it safe. The Grandland’s shark-fin D-pillar is its one standout flourish.

Size Matters (Kind Of)

When it comes to dimensions, the Peugeot 5008 is the big boy of this comparison, measuring 4,791 mm (188.6 inches), placing it in Europe’s (mid-size) D-SUV territory with rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota RAV4.

Citroen’s C5 Aircross and the Opel Grandland are nearly the same length, at around 4,652 mm (183.1 inches), which positions them squarely in the upper end of the C-SUV segment, roomy enough for families but still city-friendly. Bringing up the rear in length are the Compass and 3008, clocking in at 4,550 mm (179.1 inches) and 4,540 mm (178.7 inches) respectively. They’re compact, but not cramped.

Rear Design and Cabin Differences

\\\\\

From the back, the Citroen arguably stands out the most, thanks to LED taillights that jut out like sci-fi fins. The Peugeot 3008, again, plays the sporty card with a sloping roof and spoiler, and it shares its sharp taillights with the taller, boxier 5008.

Interestingly, the Grandland’s rear design is arguably its strongest angle, as was the case with the previous generation. And Jeep? The latest Compass finally brings something modern to the table, improving significantly on its outdated predecessor.

More: Citroen Just Put The Biggest Screen Ever In A Stellantis Model

That brings us to the interior design, where things get surprisingly varied. Each SUV takes a different approach to the digital cockpit, offering its own interpretation of modern tech. The most distinctive setup belongs to Peugeot’s iCockpit, featuring a curved display, a compact steering wheel, and center console details that lean into a light sci-fi aesthetic.

Citroen claims the title for largest screen in any Stellantis vehicle, with a 13-inch portrait touchscreen perched on the dash, flanked by their signature plush “Advanced Comfort” seats. Opel’s cabin is similarly spacious, though the design is more reserved. Jeep adds some flair with metallic trim and unique textures, but keeps the layout simple and user-friendly.

\\\\\

Under the Hood: Shared DNA

All five SUVs share the same foundation, so there’s no need to dig too deep. They’re all built on the STLA Medium architecture and offer a range of powertrains for European buyers, including mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric options.

Entry-level versions come with a mild-hybrid setup built around a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine. The plug-in hybrids step things up with a larger 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, paired with a more powerful electric motor and a bigger battery pack. Fully electric models offer either single- or dual-motor configurations, along with two battery choices depending on range and performance needs.

BMW’s Baby M SUV Might Be Lurking Under This iX3

  • Several pre-production prototypes of the 2026 BMW iX3 were spotted in the wild.
  • The latest batch of spy shots reveals the final lighting signature of the electric SUV.
  • BMW’s first Neue Klasse offering will be revealed this fall at the Munich Auto Show.

Update: With its world debut now confirmed for this September at the Munich Motor Show, BMW is putting the finishing touches on the new iX3. The electric SUV has been in development for quite some time, and the latest images from Nurburgring testing show the prototype fitted with what appear to be the finalized headlight and taillight designs.

More: BMW’s New EVs Come With 43 Layers Of Synthetic Vroom And Zero Shame

One of the test vehicles caught by our spy photographers was fitted with wheels that resemble those from the Vision Neue Klasse sedan concept. It’s still unclear whether these are standard alloys or aero-style covers, but the more pronounced side skirts and bulkier front bumper point to this tester being the M Performance variant, similar to the electric iX M50 or the current gas-powered X3 M50

This sportier version of the iX3 is expected to feature a dual-motor setup and will probably retain the M50 badge. Beyond the upgraded powertrain and more aggressive exterior styling, it’s expected to feature an M-tuned chassis with a firmer, lower suspension and drive modes tailored specifically for performance.

More: 2026 BMW iX3 Neue Klasse Renders Patents Into Reality

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Previously, our photographers also spotted a pre-production prototype of the upcoming BMW iX3 Neue Klasse SUV not long after it rolled off the line at the automaker’s plant in Hungary. The fully electric model is now undergoing final-stage development tests ahead of its planned market launch towards the end of 2025.

The BMW iX3 Neue Klasse made its spy debut in November 2023, but early prototypes featured provisional lighting units. The new prototype is fitted with the production headlights and taillights, revealing a modern LED lighting signature. This was the last missing piece of the puzzle, as the bodywork of the SUV has already been uncovered in recent patent drawings.

What’s Up With The Frunk?

The new prototype was also spotted with its hood open. While the BMW iX3 doesn’t appear to have a frunk, as the front space is currently packed with drivetrain hardware, this setup might just be a cover in both the literal and figurative sense, acting as a placeholder for testing. The final production model will in all likelihood include front storage, similar to what’s found in other EVs.

We can also see the iX3’s pop-out door handles, which are less futuristic than the fin-shaped solution of the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. Judging from earlier spy shots, these will likely find their way into the larger iX5.

The wheels of the prototype suggest that this is one of the lesser versions of the BMW iX3. Our spy photographers suggest that the wheel diameter of the production model will be between 18 inches and 22 inches depending on the trim. The larger size will likely be reserved for the performance-focused offering by BMW M.

\\\\\\

Neue Klasse, First of Many

The new BMW iX3 will be the first production model to adopt the Neue Klasse styling language before it gets applied to the automaker’s entire range of combustion and electric models. The iX3 will be followed by the i3 sedan, the similarly-sized 3-Series, and the new generation of the X5/iX5, which are set to debut in the coming years.

Under the skin, the Neue Klasse platform supports a new generation of lighter and more efficient electric motors. The iX3 will launch with single and dual-motor configurations, with output expected to range from around 300 to 600 horsepower. It will also feature 800V electrical architecture for faster charging and house next-generation batteries that are 20% more energy-dense, boosting range and efficiency by up to 30%. In its top configuration, the iX3 could travel as far as 800 kilometers, or about 500 miles, on a full charge.

Series production of the Neue Klasse-based iX3 is scheduled to begin later in the second half of 2025.

This Is One MINI We Can Get Into

  • Delta4x4 and X-Raid have created a wide-body Mini Countryman with off-road upgrades.
  • The rugged build is currently a concept, but the company is open to limited-series production.
  • The study appears to be based on the EV version, but it’s likely to be compatible with ICE as well.

The Mini Countryman is typically thought of as a road-focused SUV, but thanks to off-road experts Delta4x4 and the Dakar-winning team X-Raid, it’s been reimagined into something far more extreme, yet still street-legal beast. This radical conversion, currently presented as a digital concept, could potentially be brought to life in limited numbers if enough interest is generated.

More: BMW’s M2 Dakar Concept Is So Good It Hurts That It’s Just An April Fool’s Joke

The two companies recently showed a Mini Countryman X-Raid tuning package, which included a raft of upgrades like new wheels, tires, a suspension lift, and some eye-catching orange decals. These tweaks were only a warm-up, though, and they soon dove into creating a version inspired by X-Raid’s rally-winning desert warriors.

From April Fool’s Joke to Real Project

According to X-Raid, the idea started as an April Fool’s joke, but it quickly evolved into a real project. The highlight of the exterior are the front and rear fender extensions that add 200 mm (7.9 inches) of width to the compact SUV. A bull bar protects the front bumper from minor collisions, while extra LEDs on the grille and roof will turn night into day.

The roof rack provides extra space for overlanding equipment such as snow tracks, a full-size spare wheel, and a couple of tanks. Furthermore, Delta4x4 has added Defender-style storage compartments on the rear side windows, and decorative belts on the hood and tailgate. As a finishing touch, the body is wrapped in a matte gray shade with orange graphics.

\\\\\\\\\\

Delta4x4 / Facebook

Underneath the Mini Countryman, things are looking even more serious. It now rolls on 18-inch Delta4x4 Hanma alloy wheels wrapped in heavy-duty all-terrain rubber by Loder. Combined with a rally-tuned suspension that adds an extra 50 mm (2 inches) of ground clearance, this SUV is ready for more than just the occasional gravel road.

More: Dacia Duster Soul Of Dakar Concept Could Inspire Future Special Edition Models

X-Raid hasn’t mentioned any performance upgrades, but judging by the rendering, the base model appears to be the fully electric Mini Countryman SE All4. This version comes with a dual-motor AWD setup that produces 308 hp (230 kW / 313 PS) and is powered by a 66.5 kWh battery, providing a range of 212 miles (341 km). That said, the modifications are likely compatible with any variant of the Countryman, including the hybrid turbocharged 2.0-liter engine version.

A Limited-Edition Possibility

While the vehicle is still a concept, X-Raid and Delta4x4 have hinted at the possibility of “small-scale production” if customer demand is high enough. Hopefully, the renders will resonate with the more adventurous kind of Mini Countryman owners, bringing the Dakar-inspired build on the road. Despite its wild stance, the company has confirmed that this is a “street-legal package”.

Earlier reports also suggest that Mini itself is also working on a more rugged version of the Countryman, though details about that are still vague at best. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if this wild rendition becomes a reality.

Hyundai’s New Electric SUV Breaks Away from The Ioniq Lineup

  • The Elexio is the first EV developed in China by the Beijing Hyundai joint venture.
  • This fully electric SUV features a design distinct from Hyundai’s Ioniq lineup.
  • Built on the E-GMP architecture, the Elexio promises a 435-mile (700 km) range.

At this point, it feels like Hyundai releases a new electric model every few weeks. But don’t worry, this one’s actually a little different. Meet the fully electric Elexio, a new SUV developed specifically for the Chinese market. It’s the latest creation from Beijing Hyundai, the joint venture with BAIC Motor, and it promises to deliver the latest tech and over 700 km (435 miles) of range on a single charge.

The SUV, which ditches the familiar Ioniq branding for a fresh name, made its debut at a special event in Shanghai. Hyundai plans to reveal the technical specifications at a later date. While the vehicle’s dimensions haven’t been disclosed yet, it seems to have a more compact footprint compared to the Hyundai Ioniq 9 available in other markets including North America.

More: Genesis Declares Full-Size War On BMW And Cadillac With EV Muscle

Interestingly, the Elexio adopts a new design language that sets it apart from the Ioniq lineup. The front end features a grille-less look with sporty bumper intakes, complemented by a full-width LED bar below the horizontally mounted headlights. The profile stands out with sculpted fenders and a dark-finished D-pillar, which is visually connected to the rear spoiler. At the rear, the Elexio boasts high-mounted full-width LEDs, bold lettering, and some graphic elements on the bumper.

While Hyundai didn’t show any photos of the interior, they teased an “intelligent interface” with no physical buttons, alongside a new digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system will run on the Qualcomm SA8295 chip, delivering the latest connectivity features.

Inside, the design is said to focus on simplicity, with plenty of storage compartments. As for safety, the Elexio will be equipped with a range of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), offering Level 2+ autonomous driving capabilities.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Powertrain and Range

The new SUV rides on the E-GMP architecture, which already underpins numerous electric models from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis. While the company didn’t share any details about the number of electric motors or their output, we do know that the platform is compatible with single- and dual-motor setups.

More: Hyundai Plans To ‘Sell Like Hell’ And Tariffs Can’t Stop It

A battery of yet-to-be-revealed capacity is expected to provide over 700 km (435 miles) of range under normal conditions, though this figure is likely based on the Chinese CTLC testing protocols. The battery will also feature rapid charging, able to go from 30-80% in just 27 minutes. It’s housed in a reinforced structure that meets the crash safety standards.

Manufacturing and Future Plans

The new Elexio will be manufactured in China by Beijing Hyundai, with a local market launch expected in the coming months. Whether it will be offered outside China has not yet been confirmed.

Earlier this year, Hyundai announced a $1.1 billion investment in its joint venture with BAIC. This move aims to deliver electrified products tailored to the needs of Chinese customers while boosting exports. With declining sales in China due to intense local competition, Hyundai is hoping vehicles like the Elexio will help restore its foothold in the world’s largest automotive market.

Audi Wants To Build Electric SUVs In America As Tariffs Bite

  • The Q4 e-tron might be built at VW’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
  • Audi may also build the Q6 e-tron and Q8 e-tron at other VW Group plants.
  • The automaker is under pressure to find a solution to Trump’s tariff policies.

While the VW Group produces many vehicles in the United States, every single Audi sold locally is built in either Europe or Mexico and exported to the US, meaning they are subject to President Trump’s 25 percent auto tariffs. The premium brand is working hard to avoid these tariffs and could build several of its vehicles locally.

A recent report out of Germany suggests that Audi may build the existing Q4 e-tron crossover, or its successor, at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This would be a logical option as the Q4 e-tron shares the same MEB platform as the VW ID.4, which is currently built in Tennessee.

Read: Audi Stops All US Vehicle Exports Over Tariffs

At the same time, it could alter production plans for the Q8 e-tron. This model was originally going to be built in Mexico, but it may now be manufactured in Columbia, South Carolina, which will be home to Scout and handle production of both the EV and EREV versions of the Terra and Traveler. While VW has been eager to distance itself from Scout to allow the new brand to sell direct-to-consumers, it clearly has enough influence over it to also have the site build an unrelated model from Audi.

Audi Wants To Build Electric SUVs In America As Tariffs Bite

According to a report from Automobilwoche, the VW Group is also eyeing a third potential location for building the Q6 e-tron, though details are scarce for now.

When asked about these plans, an Audi spokesperson didn’t exactly confirm anything but did admit that the U.S. market is one of their top priorities, sitting alongside Europe and China as a core pillar of their global strategy.

“We want to increase our presence in the U.S.,” they told Auto News. “We are currently examining various scenarios. We are confident that we will be able to decide on the specific details in consultation with the Group before the end of this year.”

Either way, the wheels are in motion for Audi to make a more significant push in the States, as it’s imperative for the company to do whatever it takes to dodge those tariffs, whether by relocating production, shifting models, or just flexing the power of the VW Group.

Ford’s Mysterious New Bronco SUV Surfaces In China And It’s Unlike Anything Else

  • Ford is set to launch a new addition to the Bronco family in the Chinese market.
  • A camouflaged prototype of the upcoming SUV has made its spy debut in China.
  • It seems to feature a unibody architecture, paired with an electrified powertrain.

Ford’s Bronco family is about to get a whole lot bigger, and it looks like China will be the first to see the new addition. A camouflaged SUV sporting Bronco badges and styling has been spotted in China, giving us an early glimpse of an upcoming high-riding model from Ford. This SUV is clearly a departure from the US-spec Bronco Sport and will join the mid-size five-door Bronco already on sale in China.

More: Chinese Galaxy Battleship Floats Two Hours Straight While Pretending It’s A Defender

This mysterious SUV was included in Ford’s latest product plan for China, which was announced just last month. While the official announcement kept things vague, spy shots from Autohome have given us a few juicy details about what could be the third member of Ford’s ever-expanding Bronco family.

Design Details and Familiar Features

The camouflaged prototype boasts a boxy, rugged design reminiscent of the growing number of SUVs from China. The headlights carry a Bronco Sport influence, though they forgo the signature round LED graphics. From the side, round fender flares, pop-out door handles, and an upright windshield with black pillars add to the vehicle’s bold look.

At the rear, a full-size spare tire and vertically stacked taillights bring to mind the Land Rover Defender, while the clear finish gives it a contemporary touch.

Moving inside, the Bronco identity shines through, highlighted by the emblem on the flat-bottom steering wheel. Though parts of the interior remain concealed, we can still make out a high-mounted center console featuring ample storage and a free-standing infotainment screen seamlessly integrated into the dashboard.

Size and Unibody Architecture

\\\\\\

Spy Shots Autohome

While the exact dimensions and positioning of this model remain unclear, it appears to be larger than the US-spec Ford Bronco Sport, which measures 4,387 mm (172.7 inches) long. This could be Ford’s response to the perceived preference of Chinese customers for bigger and roomier vehicles. For context, the five-door Bronco stretches to 4,800-4,825 mm (189-190 inches) in length.

A look underneath suggests that the SUV is based on a unibody architecture. This is probably the biggest point of differentiation from the regular Bronco that rides on a ladder-frame chassis sourced from the Ranger pickup. It remains to be seen whether this Chinese model will share its unibody foundation with the Bronco Sport, Escape/Kuga, and Focus, or if Ford has something entirely different in mind for its new Bronco variant.

A screenshot from Ford’s product plan presentation in China.

Elements such as the covered grille, the aero-friendly alloy wheels, and the dual ports on the rear fenders suggest that the SUV is fitted with an electrified powertrain, which would be a first for a Bronco-badged product. The setup could either be a plug-in hybrid or a range-extender, as both of them require the presence of a fuel port and a charging port.

A few details, like the covered grille, aero-friendly alloy wheels, and dual ports on the rear fenders, hint that this SUV might come with an electrified powertrain, which if true, would be a first for anything wearing the Bronco badge. This could mean a plug-in hybrid or a range-extender setup, as both would require both a fuel port and a charging port.

This new Bronco model is expected to be built in China, likely through one of Ford’s joint ventures with Changan or Jiangling Motors. Expect more details later this year, when the vehicle’s specs and images will likely be revealed through China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, ahead of its official market launch.

This Hummer EV Lost $45K Without Ever Touching a Driveway

  • A virtually unused GMC Hummer EV sold at auction for 32 percent less than its MSRP.
  • The 2024 3X Omega Edition cost $140k new and went for $95,500 on Bring a Trailer.
  • Although it’s covered 404 miles, the Hummer had never been sold to a private owner.

We all love the idea of getting our hands on a brand new car, but the depreciation all but the most rare-groove, in-demand models suffer is a bitter pill to swallow. Take a look at this GMC Hummer EV for proof. It just sold on a well-known auction site for around $45,000 less than its MSRP despite having only been driven a few hundred miles.

A Hummer 3X, it would have cost $104,650 in base form, but this one came with some choice options. The most significant of those is the $23,355 Omega Edition package, which included Neptune Blue matte paint, transparent removable roof panels, 18-inch beadlock wheels and black emblems. Then there’s Off-Road package that added skid plates, underbody cameras, locking differentials – and a further $9,995 to the price.

Related: $36,000 Off MSRP After Just 303 Miles? This 2025 Hummer EV Buyer Pulled A Heist

The total with-options MSRP came to $140,295, yet the auction hammer price for this GMC Hummer EV SUV was only $95,500. In an earlier listing on Bring a Trailer, bids reached $95,750 but that wasn’t enough to hit the reserve and it failed to sell. A week later, with the Hummer listed again on the same site and the reserve now removed, somebody got themselves a steal of a deal.

Visually, this 830 hp (842 PS) triple-motor Hummer looks as good as new, which it ought to considering it’s covered only 404 miles (650 km). That’s about as much driving as the average American might do in two weeks and means the huge 200+ kWh battery won’t have degraded.

\\\\\\\\\\

Bring a Trailer

Compounding the good-as-new feel is the fact that whoever won this auction will be the first owner. The SUV was never titled because it hasn’t been sold to a private party before and is being offered by the dealer with its Manufacturer Certificate of Origin.

Buying a zero-mile new car can make sense if the dealer has a great zero-percent finance deal to go with it, something not open to auction buyers. And yes, this is a 2024 model rather than a 2025, which helps explain some of the depreciation. But it’s hard to argue with a $45,000 saving on the MSRP, and at least a $25,0000 saving on a 2025 model with some (but not all) of the same options.
