Tesla Cybertruck Sees Pool, Jumps Right In

  • The front end of the Tesla has taken a hefty hit after slamming into the pool.
  • Local fire crews stabilized the rear of the Tesla and rescued the occupants.
  • It remains unclear whether the EV will be repaired or scrapped by the insurer.

The owner of a matte black Tesla Cybertruck in Arizona made a very costly mistake when they drove the electric pickup straight into a backyard swimming pool. While the crash left the Tesla with significant damage, the pool was thankfully empty at the time, meaning the Cybertruck avoided injuring anyone and spared itself from an unwanted swim (and probably even more extensive damage).

The accident took place near the intersection of East University Drive and North Signal Butte Road, on the edge of Phoenix. While images shared on Instagram by the Local 3878 Firefighters division don’t explain how the Cybertruck ended up in the pool area, we can take an educated guess that the truck went off-road, likely smashing through a fence before making its poolside debut.

Read: Mercedes S-Class Driver Confuses Carpooling With Gym Pool Dive

While recent NHTSA testing shows that the Cybertruck has been built tough and is very safe, the front of this particular truck is looking a little worse for wear after it nosedived into the empty pool. The nose took the brunt of the impact, with the front bumper and hood crushed, and the windshield shattered. There’s also a good chance the undertray took some damage too and will likely need some repairs.

Fortunately, local fire crews were on hand to stabilize the situation. They placed supports under the rear of the truck to keep it from tipping any further, then extracted the occupants safely. Ambulances were on site to take them away, though it’s unclear if the only injury was to their pride.

What’s next for this Cybertruck? While it’s hard to say for sure based solely on these images, there’s a good chance it will be repairable, but that’s only relevant if the insurer is willing to pay rather than deciding to scrap the truck and sell it at an auction. If a major part of the front crash structure was damaged, that would add to the cost of fixing, as would any suspension damage to the driver’s side front quarter.

The PV5 Is Kia’s Idea Of An Electric Minivan

  • Kia has detailed the PV5 EV, ahead of its launch in the second half of the year.
  • It offers 43.3, 51.5, and 71.2 kWh battery packs and has a range of up to 249 miles.
  • A dizzying array of configurations will be available, but all have a 161 hp motor.

Following a preview earlier this month, Kia has released details and initial specifications for their new PV5 van. It’s the first member of their Platform Beyond Vehicle lineup and will be offered in passenger, cargo, and chassis cab configurations.

Starting with the PV5 Passenger, it features three-rows of seats and can seamlessly transition between personal and business use. Kia also noted they worked closely with Uber to address customer pain points and this means the van will be “able to serve multiple use cases for riders and should be eligible for multiple Uber product categories.”

More: 2026 Kia EV4 Arrives To Take On The Tesla Model 3 And VW ID.3

The PV5 Cargo will be offered in Standard, Long, and High-Roof configurations that offer up to 180.1 cubic feet (5,100 liters) of cargo space. The Standard and Long variants have two front seats, although a third seat is available. The model also offers an optional L-track mounting system for the cargo area.

The PV5 Chassis Cab is based on the PV5 Cargo, but comes “supplied as an incomplete vehicle.” Kia said it’s envisioned to be transformed into everything from a drop side truck to a refrigerated van.

\\\\\\\\\\

In terms of size, the Passenger and Cargo Long variants measure 184.8 inches (4,695 mm) long and have a 117.9-inch (2,995 mm) wheelbase. This makes the vans 10.6 inches (269 mm) shorter than the US-spec Volkswagen ID.Buzz, but only 0.7 inches (18 mm) smaller than the short wheelbase version offered in Europe.

A Minimalist And Flexible Interior

\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Given that the PV5 is designed for business, it shouldn’t be surprising that the cabin is about as exciting as watching paint dry. There’s a minimalist dashboard with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment system running Android Automotive OS. They’re joined by a pillar-like center stack as well as a two-spoke steering wheel with a column-mounted shifter.

While the interior isn’t visually interesting, it offers extensive customization. As part of this effort, there are AddGear modular accessories that “resemble tailored furniture.” There are also a host of options and passenger-focused models offer multiple storage compartments as well as heated second-row seats.

A New Platform With Multiple Batteries

The PV5 Is Kia’s Idea Of An Electric Minivan

The PV5 rides on the Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service (E-GMP.S), which builds on the existing E-GMP architecture. However, it’s more fleet focused and standardizes essential components – such as batteries and motors – to reduce costs and streamline development.

Furthermore, E-GMP.S is an electric skateboard platform. This allows for “diverse upper body designs to be integrated into a flat base.” Speaking of which, Kia has developed a Flexible Body System that allows for Passenger, Cargo, Chassis-Cab, Wheelchair Accessible, and Family vehicles as well as Crew, Drop Side, Box Van, Freezer Box, Prime, and Light Camper configurations.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

The PV5 will be offered with a 43.3 kWh LFP battery pack as well as 51.5 and 71.2 kWh NCM batteries. With the latter, the PV5 Passenger has a range of up to 249 miles (400 km) under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure. When it comes time to charge, a 30 minute stop can take the battery from 10% to 80%.

All models appear to be powered by a front-mounted motor developing 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. However, we can expect to learn more details closer to launch.

The PV5 will go on sale in Europe and South Korea in the second half of the year. The van will then arrive in “other markets” in 2026.

Dodge Promotes Charger’s Standard AWD System As Discounts Top $12k

  • Dodge is highlighting the standard all-wheel drive system on the redesigned Charger.
  • The company says it’s “battle-tested” and should help to increase the model’s appeal.
  • Four-door Chargers arrive in the first half of 2025, while ICE-powered models come later.

The Dodge Charger Daytona has landed with a predictable thud and dealers are already offering discounts in excess of $12,000. That’s an eye popping number and one that strongly hints at lackluster demand.

Given this, it’s not surprising to learn that Dodge is trying to promote the Charger as the “world’s only all-wheel-drive muscle car.” While the Challenger offered an optional all-wheel drive system, every Charger comes standard with it. This includes the upcoming Sixpack variants, which will have a twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six producing up to 550 hp (410 kW / 558 PS).

More: Gas-Powered Dodge Charger Arrives This Summer, 3 New Jeeps Coming Too

Dodge CEO Matt McAlear said this is an “opportunity for both the Dodge brand and for our customers who live in colder climates.” The automaker also noted the all-wheel drive system has been “battle-tested” in a variety of locations – including Michigan’s Upper Peninsula – and these trips have proven the “Charger’s ability to merge muscle car performance with all-weather capability.”

While Dodge didn’t say much about the all-wheel drive system itself, they noted the model has a Wet/Snow Mode that provides the “most amount of traction and stability.” In order to do this, the mode adjusts the traction control, electronic stability control, regenerative braking, and torque bias logic.

Dodge also noted the Charger comes standard with a mechanical limited slip rear differential. It sends power to both rear wheels for added traction.

If you’re more concerned about fun, there’s a Drift/Donut Mode that converts the vehicle into a rear-wheel drive muscle car. It also deactivates electronic stability control and throttles back the traction control intervention threshold.

Of course, the elephant in the room is pricing as the 2024 Charger Daytona starts at $59,595. For comparison, the all-wheel drive Challenger SXT retailed for $35,140 and you could step up to the GT variant for $38,440. That’s a huge difference, even though the Charger Daytona is significantly more powerful.

‘Don’t Buy A Swasticar’ Ad Campaign Targets Musk In London

  • A new protest targeting Tesla and Elon Musk just popped up in London.
  • The ad ties Musk and Tesla to Nazis and calls the brand’s models “Swasticars.”
  • The group behind the protest offers merchandise to support their cause.

Car news has always had its fair share of oddball moments, but over the last few years, much of the weirdness has come courtesy of Elon Musk. No other automotive CEO draws as much attention as he does and lately, it hasn’t been for the reasons he might hope. After several questionable actions by the boss at Tesla, he’s found himself at the center of yet another controversy, this time in the form of an ad campaign that’s got Londoners raising an eyebrow or two. And no, it’s not another SpaceX launch.

This time, it takes the form of what appears to be a well-executed advertising campaign that has gone viral. Located at the Pollard Row bus stop in London, UK, it has been up for only a short time but is already drawing quite a bit of attention

More: Musk Hates Government Spending, Yet Tesla And SpaceX Took Nearly $40B In Taxpayer Funds

“Goes From 0 To 1939 In 3 Seconds,” says the ad, alluding to Musk’s perceived fandom of Nazis and Adolf Hitler. Below the wordmark is a depiction of Musk and his now-infamous gesture at a U.S. political event. A Model X appears too with the words “Tesla The Swasticar,” beneath Musk.

The phrase ‘swasticar’ is becoming more and more common among those who disagree with Musk’s politics. The group taking responsibility for the ad offers merchandise including stickers with the phrase “Don’t Buy A Swasticar” along with another depiction of Musk. It also allegedly sells the poster ad seen in London via PDF on its website, though we couldn’t find it.

Notably, the stickers and ad aren’t the only actions the campaigners have taken. They’ve also delivered a cardboard cutout of Musk making that gesture to a Tesla dealership and set it up in the lobby. An online GoFundMe campaign for the group aims to raise £10,000 (the current goal), but it’s unclear exactly what for.

“We’ve plastered ‘don’t buy a swasticar’ stickers across hundreds of Teslas in London and taken a cardboard cutout of Elon Musk to a Tesla dealership – prompting customers to tell us to “f**k off” because they’re offended for some reason… We’re planning more – but we need to raise at least £20k to help us fund the actions we have planned. Are you in?”

More: Tesla Sales Crumble 45% In Europe, Even As EV Market Explodes 37%

The group has raised £9,252 from 500 donations so far, toward their £10,000 goal. Of all the protesting organizations out there, this one seems to have more staying power than most. Others appear to be just individuals upset with Musk or small groups making seemingly idle threats. Whether it’s more stickers, more cardboard Musk statues, or just more general mayhem, we’re not sure—but you can bet it’ll be entertaining.

1,526-HP Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Is $40K Cheaper Than Initially Announced

  • Xiaomi has left Porsche reeling by pricing its new SU7 Ultra at ¥529,000 ($72,800).
  • When pre-orders opened last October, Xiaomi said it would cost ¥814,900 ($112,000)
  • The Ultra recently beat the 400% pricer Taycan Turbo GT’s Shanghai circuit laptime.

Spring is approaching and the weather in Stuttgart should be getting milder. But today the temperature in the Porsche HQ must have dropped about 10 degrees when Xiaomi revealed it is pricing its SU7 Ultra sedan more than 35 percent lower than previously suggested.

At the initial launch of the range-topping Ultra last October, Xiaomi said the EV would cost ¥814,900 ($112,000), matching the current price of the similarly-sized Tesla Model S Plaid. That was already bad news for Porsche, whose rivaling Taycan Turbo GT is ¥1,998,000 / $274,871 (it’s $230k in the US).

Related: Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Smashes Taycan Turbo GT’s Lap Record At Shanghai Circuit

But now at the car’s proper debut, the Chinese smartphone company-turned-automaker says the 1,527 hp four-door coupe will only set its customers back ¥529,000 ($72,800). That makes the Ultra around one quarter the price of the Taycan, which develops less power and was slower around the Shanghai International Circuit.

The triple-motor Ultra gets a single 386 hp (392 PS / 288 kW) power unit in the nose and a pair of 570 hp (578 PS / 425 kW) motors at the back. Total output is 1,526 hp (1,547 PS / 1,138 kW) and torque peaks at 1,306 lb-ft (1,770 Nm). That compares with 1,019 hp (1,034 PS / 760 kW) for the Taycan Turbo GT and Model S Plaid.

1,526-HP Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Is $40K Cheaper Than Initially Announced

Beats Porsche on the track

Earlier this month Xiaomi said the Ultra had lapped the Shanghai International Circuit in 2:09.94, beating the Taycan’s time by almost 1.5 seconds. The Chinese car stormed to 201 mph (323 kmh) on the back straight, and is claimed to reach 62 mph (100 kmh) from rest in 1.98 seconds versus 2.1 seconds for the Porsche. Xiaomi says when not hot-lapping, the Ultra has a range of 392 miles (630 km), though that’s measured using China’s glass-half-full CLTC system.

An active rear diffuser, fixed carbon fiber rear spoiler and other aero aids create 285 kg (628 lbs) of downforce, but despite an available carbon fiber roof that comes with the optional “Racing Package” the Ultra still weighs close to 2,500 kg (5,511 lbs).

1,526-HP Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Is $40K Cheaper Than Initially Announced

To help deal with that weight the chassis features torque vectoring, dual-chamber air springs and carbon brakes, while other goodies in the Racing Package include Bilstein EVO R coilover shocks, upgraded brake pads, Pirelli P Zero tires, a spare set of P Zero Trofeo RS track boots, forged 21-inch wheels and carbon rear wheel arch trims.

Low price, high demand

For $73k customers are getting an awful lot of car for the money. Even the hood badge is made from carbon fibre and 24 carat gold. Let’s hope it’s well glued down. And let’s hope for the sake of Porsche’s sales the Ultra isn’t exported to other markets because within 10 minutes of the Ultra’s debut almost 7,000 people had put down deposits.

The SU7 wasn’t the only Ultra product Xiaomi brand fans were talking about today. The company also launched a new smartphone, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, boss Lei Jun claiming the two Ultras were part of its move into high-end products.

Woman Caught With Explosives After Tesla Dealership Vandalism

  • A person suspected of targeting over $220K worth of Teslas with incendiary devices is now in jail.
  • Police apprehended the suspect following a failed arson attempt and multiple acts of vandalism.
  • Tesla may pursue its own charges after a recent wave of vandalism incidents across the country.

For weeks, police in Loveland, Colorado, had been chasing down a suspect after a string of incidents against a Colorado Tesla dealership that seemed like typical, run-of-the-mill vandalism. But as it turns out, the case was far more serious than anyone could have imagined.

Read: Las Vegas Gets First Cybertruck Police Fleet In America

After several calls, multiple vandalism events, and a public plea for help, the authorities finally tracked down the culprit. What started as a few cans of spray paint quickly escalated, culminating in a shocking arrest—complete with explosives and incendiary devices discovered at the scene, at a Tesla dealership.

The First Incident – Paint, Not Explosives

All of this dates back to late January, when police responded to a call about some vandalism at the Tesla dealership on 1606 North Lincoln Ave in Loveland. While they didn’t find a suspect at the time, they did find plenty of evidence that something was amiss. It was just the first of several similar incidents, with more vandalism reported on February 2 and again on February 7.

Turning Point: The Arson Attempt

It’s that second incident in February that was the turning point though. Police report that rather than simply spray-painting “offensive and hateful” messages on cars, the perpetrator also made an attempt at arson in one form or another. According to the Seattle Times, security footage showed someone throwing what appear to be Molotov cocktails into a row of cars. The affidavit revealed that at least four cars, collectively worth $220,000, were targeted by these incendiary devices. The authorities put out a bulletin to the community asking for help in identifying the person responsible.

On February 24, they finally caught a break, apprehending the person they believe is behind it all. Identified as 40-year-old Lucy Nelson, the suspect was found with “additional incendiary devices, along with materials linked to the vandalism,” according to Loveland police. Nelson’s arrest affidavit suggests she may not have acted alone, as surveillance footage shows another individual, with a different build, who is also suspected of involvement.

“These incidents were not only unlawful, dangerous, and unsettling, they also created an atmosphere of discomfort and worry,” Loveland PD Public Information Officer Chris Padgett told CNN. “Those who work at the business, along with those living in the community, have had to deal with such concerns since the first incident on January 29th,” he added.

A Long List of Charges

That said, Nelson is now facing a laundry list of charges, including the use of explosives or incendiary devices during a felony, criminal mischief involving damages between $2,000 and $5,000, and an attempted Class 3 felony. The Larimer County Magistrate has set her bond at $100,000 cash surety.

This is, of course, just one small chapter in the larger, ongoing saga of vandalism and protests tied to Tesla and Elon Musk right now.

Tesla itself has made it clear that they will prosecute anyone who damages their property—specifically, Supercharger stations, which have been a frequent target of vandalism lately. We imagine that Tesla might be willing to go after Nelson with the same tenacity. But for Tesla owners whose cars are damaged in these incidents? Well, you’re pretty much left to pick up the pieces for now.

Oh Boy, Mansory Tuned The Cybertruck And Named It The Elongation

  • The Mansory Elongation is admittedly one of the wildest Cybertruck builds yet.
  • The electric truck features a forged carbon fiber bodykit and new 26-inch wheels.
  • The tuner offers new leather and carbon fiber options for the Tesla’s interior.

The Tesla Cybertruck has rightfully earned its place as one of the most divisive vehicles on the market, but Mansory is here to make it even harder to ignore. Enter the Mansory Elongation, a modified version of the already outlandish EV, cheekily named as a nod to the Tesla CEO himself. The transformation includes a mix of carbon fiber accents, a set of 26-inch wheels, and a revamped interior.

Mansory traded some of the Cybertruck’s stainless steel panels for its signature forged carbon, giving it a bi-tone appearance. For those who prefer a subtler take on the modification, a high-gloss polished paint finish is also available, offering a less conspicuous (but equally flashy) look.

More: World’s First Widebody Tesla Cybertruck Just Got Six Inches Wilder

Up front, the Tesla truck receives a more aggressive stance, with a vented hood, a sportier bumper with an integrated splitter, and a set of roof-mounted LEDs.

The wide fender flares are a departure from the factory plastic ones, though they still keep the Cybertruck’s signature angular aesthetic while providing ample space for the enormous wheels. The 26-inch FD.15 alloys, finished in black, sport a Mansory design that could almost pass for something you’d see on a Rolls-Royce—if they made SUVs out of angular metal and post-apocalyptic vibes. Other changes include new door mirrors, side skirts, and, for reasons no one’s quite sure of, a fake greenhouse extension with a Lamborghini-style vent.

\\\\\\\\

The Rear Is Where Things Get Really Creative

Things only get wilder in the back. Mansory has added a pair of spoilers flanking each corner of the tailgate, which still allows full access to the bed, because we assume that’s something you might actually need. These are paired with an oversized splitter, F1-style brake lights, and a matching carbon fiber trim panel with illuminated Mansory branding—just in case you forgot who’s responsible for this highly conspicuous transformation.

Inside, the changes are no less dramatic. The interior of the Cybetruck has been upgraded with high-quality leather upholstery, quilted seats, and even more carbon fiber. The colors can be customized depending on customer preferences, with the pictured build combining white, black, and lime green tones.

More: Cybertruck Gets Magnetic Wraps That Let You Change Color In Minutes For $2K

As for performance, the Mansory Elongation retains the Cybertruck’s stock electric powertrain, which, frankly, is more than enough for most people. The Cyberbeast trim comes with three electric motors that churn out a combined 845 horsepower (630 kW / 857 PS), allowing the vehicle to reach 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in a mere 2.6 seconds.

While Mansory has yet to release pricing details, it’s safe to say these upgrades won’t come cheap. The tuner has already posted photos of the Elongation on social media in the Middle East, seemingly on the lookout for customers with deeper pockets than usual and a particular fondness for turning an already over-the-top vehicle into something that makes even the Cybertruck look tame.

Tesla Driver Survives After Semi Crushes Model 3 In Shocking Crash

  • Images have appeared showing a Tesla Model 3 crushed by a semi truck.
  • The most shocking aspect is that the Tesla driver wasn’t killed in the accident.
  • He was so impressed by the Model 3’s strength he’s since bought another Tesla.

We’ve probably all seen those grim Russian dashcam Youtube videos and smartphone clips from India where a car is plowed into or crushed by a truck and you just know that no one in the car made it out alive. The images of a flattened Model 3 on this page look like the aftermath of one of those tragedies, except that, incredibly, the Tesla driver survived.

Two pictures show the white pre-facelift Model 3 wedged under a semi-trailer that’s rolled over on top of the EV. The entire passenger compartment right up to the trunk appears to have been crushed down to window level or lower.

Related: Car Falls From Overpass Onto Highway, Driver Miraculously Survives

And shots taken of the Tesla once the truck had been lifted off it are no less breathtaking. The car is completely destroyed, its windshield now angled about 15 degrees from horizontal and what’s left of the also-shattered glass roof lying about a foot (300 mm) lower than it where it was once located.

Luckily for the driver, his portion of the cabin somehow managed to fare better than the rest of the car, presumably because it was struck by less weight. The driver reportedly escaped the crash with only cuts and bruises, but looking at the wreckage we can say it’s fortunate that he wasn’t carrying passengers. They’d probably all have died.

Writing on X a business associate of the Tesla driver, @MensurMVisuals, said the Model 3 was cruising on the highway when a truck next to him lost control and flipped on top of the EV. The X poster said the Tesla driver was so impressed with the Model 3’s strength that he picked up a brand-new Tesla three weeks later.

Comments on X and Reddit, where it also appeared, seem to be split between those who think the Tesla’s exceptional strength saved the day, in a way no other brand of car would have done, and those who think the driver just got lucky, simple as that. 2026 Kia EV4 Arrives To Take On The Tesla Model 3 And VW ID.3

  • Kia has unveiled the $35k/£31k EV4 sedan and hatch at its Kia Day event.
  • Launch models get a 201 hp motor and 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh batteries.
  • The EVs made their debut alongside the smaller EV2 concept and PV5 vans.

A recent facelift wasn’t enough to stop Model 3 sales sliding in 2024 and today Kia debuted something bound to make Tesla’s pain even worse. It’s the EV4, which goes on sale later this year for around $35k / £31k.

The Korean automaker unveiled its new compact EV at the Kia Day event in Spain this week alongside the little EV2 SUV concept and the PV5 van, and although Kia had previously revealed exterior images of the EV4, this was our first chance to find out exactly what was going on under the skin.

Related: Kia EV2 Concept Previews Small Electric SUV For 2026 With Funky Styling

Or maybe that should be skins, because Kia is building the EV4 in both fastback sedan and hatchback body styles on the same 2,820 mm (111 inches) wheelbase. Europe will take both versions, but only the sedan will be offered in the US.

One Motor, One Power Level

The powertrain spec closely follows the template laid down by the EV3 last year. That means slower-charging (but cheaper to build) 400-volt electrics instead of the 800-volt type fitted to the EV6 and EV9, and just one available motor, a single 201 hp (204 PS / 150 kW) unit driving the front wheels, at least initially. Dual-motor, all-wheel drive and GT versions will follow.

Go for the smaller 58.3 kWh battery and you’ll go faster, but not as far. Zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) with that configuration takes 7.4 seconds in both the sedan and hatch, though the sedan will travel 267 miles (430 km) on a charge, and the hatch a less useful 255 miles (410 km).

\\\\\\\\

Almost 400 Miles Of Range

Choose the bigger 81.4 kWh battery and the extra weight delays your arrival at 62 mph by 0.3 seconds, but the range gains seem more than worth it. The hatch does 367 miles (590 km) before needing to be plugged in and the sedan can go 391 miles (630 km). Those numbers all relate to cars on the 17-inch wheels. Up the hoop size and you’ll shrink the range.

There’s not much difference in fill-time between the two batteries: 29 minutes for the small one and 31 for the bigger. Nevertheless, both look glacially slow next to the sub-20-minute times EV6 drivers currently enjoy.

Watch Netflix Or Sing Karaoke

Sedan and hatch EV4s get the same 30-inch, triple display dashboard and allow passengers to stream YouTube, Netflix and Disney+, play games and even sing karaoke. The identical wheelbases should ensure they match each other for rear space, but the 4,730-mm (186.2 inches) sedan’s 300 mm (11.8 inches) of extra body length means it wins the cargo war, offering 490 liters (17.3 cu-ft) to the hatch’s 435 liters (15.4 cu-ft).

The EV goes on sale in Korea in March with the Korean-built sedan and Slovakian-produced hatch arriving in European showrooms in the second half of the year. America will get its US-manufactured sedan later in 2025.

Kia EV2 Concept Previews Small Electric SUV For 2026 With Funky Styling

  • The Kia Concept EV2 shows the automaker’s vision for a future electric B-SUV.
  • The small EV has a stylish exterior and a futuristic cabin focused on practicality.
  • The production version will arrive in 2026, available in Europe and other regions.

Kia is quickly expanding its electric vehicle portfolio, covering more segments than ever before. The latest addition to this lineup is the Kia EV2, a small electric SUV that’s set for a 2026 debut, primarily targeting European markets. Unveiled as a concept during the 2025 Kia EV Day in Barcelona, the EV2 offers a glimpse into what we can expect from the production model.

The Concept EV2 shows “the brand’s vision for a future B-segment all-electric SUV”. The zero-emission equivalent of the Stonic will be smallest member of Kia’s EV lineup, at least until the debut of the Picanto-sized Kia EV1 at some point in the future.

Fitting In and Standing Out

The compact dimensions of the Kia EV2, which is smaller than the EV3, mean it will target the lower end of the market. It’ll compete with electric options like the Jeep Avenger and the Mini Aceman. The concept’s exterior features cheeky proportions and a modern design, with elements like quad headlights, rugged plastic cladding, and slim, low-mounted taillights.

More: Kia’s Road-Ready PV5 Looks Just Like Last Year’s Concept

The production EV2 is expected to look very similar to the concept, albeit with a few toned-down features. Judging from earlier Kia offerings we expect the final design to have thicker pillars, larger mirrors, and flush door handles.

\\\\\\\\\
\\\\\\\\

Futuristic Cabin, Practical Design

The concept has a futuristic four-seater cabin with a focus on practicality. The suicide rear doors, the lack of central pillars, and the flat floor provide easy access. By folding the rear seats and sliding the front bench backwards, occupants can relax, stretch their legs, or sit on the floor when the vehicle is parked.

Other cool features include the triangular portable speakers on the doors, the wireless charger on the lower portion of the dashboard, the pop-up luggage dividers, and the message lighting on the side windows for communicating with other road users. Naturally, some of these elements won’t make it to production, with the suicide doors and the window lighting being the prime candidates to be ditched in the road-going version.

More: New Mini Aceman EV Is Big On Space, Small In Size

While Kia didn’t announce the technical specifications of the EV2, the production model will most likely ride on a shorter version of the E-GMP architecture. The SUV is expected to be available with a single electric motor and a smaller battery pack compared to the slightly larger EV3, allowing it to be more affordable.

Kia President and CEO, Ho Sung Song, promised that the EV2 will offer technology and practicality “beyond its size”, adding it will support their goal of “making electric vehicles truly accessible for everyone.”

Pricing and Availability

The EV2 is expected to be priced from around €30,000 ($31,400) in Europe when it arrives in 2026. Kia said it will also go on sale in “other regions” without getting into specifics. Still, don’t expect to see the EV2 in North America, unlike the EV3 and EV4 which are expected to be available Stateside.

Cybertruck Driver Attacks Minor After He Allegedly Cut Him Off

  • A 72-year-old man attacked a teenager after a road rage incident in Grand Cayman.
  • The altercation involved a Cybertruck and a Hyundai Kona merging into the same lane.
  • The incident sparked public debate about the treatment of expats versus local Caymanians.

Road rage incidents are nothing new, but when they involve a Tesla Cybertruck, an elderly businessman, and a 17-year-old, they’re bound to make headlines, even in a place as laid-back as the Cayman Islands. A 72-year-old man is now at the center of a police investigation after being caught on camera attacking a motorist who reportedly cut in front of him and his Tesla Cybertruck. While police arrested the 17-year-old involved, the older driver walked away with just a warning, something that didn’t sit well with locals.

The altercation occurred about a week ago on Grand Cayman. According to local reports, Larry McGean was driving his Tesla Cybertruck with his wife when a teenage driver in a Hyundai Kona merged into his lane. McGean allegedly had to slam on the Tesla’s brakes to avoid a collision and didn’t take too kindly to the driving of the 17-year-old.

According to the Cayman Marl Road, McGean approached the driver of the Kona. Footage shared on social media shows the expat in a heated argument with the young Hyundai driver before McGean appears to open the door and lunge toward him. Although the next moments are unclear, it seems that as McGean forced his way into the cabin, the teenager quickly put him in a chokehold.

An ambulance that was passing by at the time stopped and the crew helped to separate the two men. McGean’s face was cut in the incident. Despite allegedly being the aggressor, he was let off with a warning for intended prosecution of Common Assault. In contrast, the 17-year-old driver of the Hyundai was arrested on suspicion of Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

Local police are appealing to motorists who witnessed the scuffle to get in contact with them and to provide any useful information they can. However, authorities have come under fire from many locals for not yet arresting McGean, despite footage showing his involvement in the fight. It has also raised broader concerns about how wealthy expats are treated compared to local Caymanians.

The incident continues to attract attention both online and locally, with many awaiting further updates from the police investigation.

The EV With The Most Satisfied Owners? BMW iX

  • BMW iX tops J.D. Power’s 2025 EV Satisfaction Study, outscoring Tesla and Rivian.
  • Hyundai Ioniq 6 leads mass-market EVs with top satisfaction ratings in the study.
  • 94% of EV owners are eager to stick with electric vehicles for their next purchase.

Electric vehicles are gaining traction, but not all models leave their owners equally satisfied. A new study reveals that EV owners in the US are generally pleased with their vehicles, with the BMW iX emerging as the top-rated model. Despite an 11% drop in sales last year to 15,383 units, the all-electric German SUV has won over its owners, outscoring many more popular EVs in terms of overall satisfaction.

J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience Ownership Study rated vehicles on a 1,000-point scale across several key areas. These included battery range, cost of ownership, driving enjoyment, range accuracy, public charging access, ease of home charging, design, safety and tech features, service experience, and overall quality and reliability. This year, the study surveyed 6,164 owners of 2024 and 2025 BEV and PHEV models to gather their feedback.

The BMW iX scored 790 out of a possible 1,000, earning the top spot overall and leading the premium BEV category. Close behind was another BMW model, the i4, with a score of 783. It was followed by the Rivian R1S at 770, the Tesla Model 3 at 767, and the Polestar 2 at 764. The average rating for premium BEVs was 756, with the Tesla Model Y (749), Audi Q8 e-tron (722), and Cadillac Lyriq (717) falling below this benchmark.

J.D. Power

Leading the way among mass-market BEVs was the Hyundai Ioniq 6 with a rating of 751. However, one could argue the Tesla Model 3 and Y should be considered mass-market BEVs, too, rather than premium offerings. Other strong performers included the Kia EV6 (743), Chevrolet Equinox EV (737), and Hyundai Ioniq 5 (728).

Other Findings

The study also quizzed owners about the education and training they received from dealerships or the manufacturer. While 69% of first-time BEV buyers did receive some education, greater efforts can be made and this could boost ownership satisfaction.

The vast majority of EV owners are also eager to stick with an EV. In fact, 94% said they are likely to consider buying another EV as their next vehicle. According to the executive director of J.D. Power’s EV practice, Brent Gruber, “once consumers enter the EV fold, they’re highly likely to remain committed to the technology.”

The BMW iX’s top ranking underscores how satisfaction doesn’t always correlate with sales figures, highlighting the importance of the ownership experience in shaping consumer loyalty.

Chinese Brands Now Dominate 76% Of Global EV Sales

  • European countries like Spain and Austria are increasingly leaning toward Chinese EVs
  • Despite zero U.S. presence, Chinese EVs now account for 76% of global market share.
  • In Brazil, Thailand, and Mexico, they hold hold a massive share of over 70 percent.

It’s no secret that Chinese car manufacturers are leading the charge when it comes to electric vehicles (pun fully intended). What’s surprising, though, is that they’ve managed this without selling a single car in the United States, the world’s second-largest and most lucrative car market. So, how are they pulling it off? By focusing on just about every other major region instead.

More: Porsche’s High Prices And Outdated Tech Are Killing Its Sales In China, Could It Happen Here?

According to recent data from Rho Motion, Chinese brands now command a staggering 76% share of the global EV and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) market, thanks to aggressive expansions into new territories. In Europe, their market share varies by country, but they’ve made particularly strong gains in less developed markets around the world.

Gaining Ground in Europe

In Germany, Europe’s largest car market, Chinese manufacturers accounted for about 4% of the 578,000 EVs sold last year. The numbers are slightly higher in the UK and France, where they captured 7% and 5% of total EV sales, respectively. In the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Belgium, Chinese EVs make up 6%, 5%, 8%, and 3% of the market. Meanwhile, their presence is even more pronounced in Spain and Austria, where they hold 10% and 11% of total EV sales.

Dominating Emerging Markets

Outside Europe, Chinese automakers are enjoying even more significant success. In Brazil, a remarkable 82% of all EVs and PHEVs sold in 2024 came from China. Similarly, they have a 77% share of the market in Thailand and a 70% share in Mexico. They also account for 75% of all EVs and PHEVs delivered in Indonesia, 52% in Malaysia, 74% in Nepal, and 64% in Israel. They’re also popular in Australia and New Zealand, accounting for 26% and 15% of sales.

Why Are They Winning?

Part of this success can be attributed to the fact that many of these countries lack a strong local car industry, giving Chinese brands an easier path to market dominance. Additionally, China’s electric vehicle industry has benefited from at least $231 billion in government subsidies and aid from 2009 through the end of 2023. This substantial financial support has allowed Chinese EVs and PHEVs to be more affordable than those from traditional automakers, giving them a competitive edge.

Las Vegas Gets First Cybertruck Police Fleet In America

  • Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department adds 10 Tesla Cybertrucks to its fleet for free.
  • Some of them will serve as SWAT vehicles with specialized modifications for off-roading.

It was only a matter of time before the Tesla Cybertruck found its way into police service. That moment has arrived with confirmation from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department that it’s adding 10 Cybertrucks to its fleet and they won’t just be used for promotional activities.

It’s not uncommon for police forces worldwide to adopt flashy, expensive vehicles, often sparking controversy if taxpayer money is involved. In this case, however, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department emphasizes that all 10 Cybertrucks are being “donated by an anonymous supporter,” sidestepping any budget-related backlash.

According to the department, some of the Cybertrucks will be used by local SWAT teams, while others will serve as regular patrol cars for Las Vegas police officers. A pair of renderings showcase how the modified Cybertrucks could look, and even though it’s hard to stand out in Las Vegas among all the flashing lights and craziness, these Teslas will no doubt turn heads.

The version previewed for SWAT use is finished in a new desert color and sits on black aftermarket wheels with huge mud-terrain tires. It also looks to feature reinforced armored doors and windows, off-road tracks, and custom bumpers. It’s unclear if the finished product will look like this, as this rendering appears to be based on an upgraded Cybertruck from Unplugged Performance unveiled back in late 2023.

The regular police cruiser version looks a little more tame and, once again, has been previewed with a single image based on Unplugged Performance’s Cybertruck cop car unveiled last year. Modifications include new flashing light bars, custom wheels, and LED spotlights.

“Imagine when we’re out and we’re charging these things, and officers will be approached by people from all over the community to see this thing,” Sheriff Kevin McMahill told Fox 5 Vegas. “It’s an opportunity [to] inject humanity, to increase our community partnerships. This is also a tremendous recruitment tool.”

Lucid CEO Resigns Unexpectedly As Brand Plans To Double Production

  • The EV startup aims to build as many as 20,000 vehicles this year as Gravity production grows.
  • Peter Rawlinson has become a Strategic Technical Advisor to the Lucid board.
  • Last year, Lucid built 9,029 vehicles and delivered 10,241 to customers.

In recent years, Lucid chief executive Peter Rawlinson has become the face of the innovative electric vehicle brand, but soon after the Gravity SUV was launched, the British engineer stepped aside. Current chief operating officer Marc Winterhoff will replace him on an interim basis as Lucid’s board looks for a permanent new CEO.

Rawlinson joined Lucid in 2013, having previously served as the vice president for vehicle engineering for the Tesla Model S. He has proven instrumental in growing the company and was there when it was rebranded from Atieva in 2016 to Lucid. Despite the encouraging growth, Lucid remains a small player in the EV space but it has big plans for 2025.

“Now that we have successfully launched the Lucid Gravity, I have decided it is finally the right time for me to step aside from my roles at Lucid,” Rawlinson said. “I am incredibly proud of the accomplishments the Lucid team have achieved together through my tenure of these past twelve years. We grew from a tiny company with a big ambition, to a widely recognized technological world leader in sustainable mobility.”

Rawlinson won’t leave the company, and will now serve as Strategic Technical Advisor to the Chairman of the Board.

Financial Results

On the same day Rawlinson stepped down as CEO, Lucid announced its full-year 2024 and fourth-quarter financial results. Last year, Lucid produced a total of 9,029 vehicles and delivered 10,241. Q4 revenue reached $234.5 million, while annual revenue topped $807.8 million, and Lucid ended the quarter with roughly $6.13 billion in total liquidity.

2025 is shaping up to be a very important one for Lucid. Production of the Gravity SUV will ramp up, and the company is aiming to produce approximately 20,000 vehicles this year. Winterhoff hasn’t said what proportion of new sales will be for the Gravity, but given the strong demand for luxury SUVs, it’s possible that it could prove to be more popular than the Lucid Air sedan.

All versions of the Lucid SUV have a huge 123 kWh battery, enough to give the Gravity an impressive 450 miles (724 km) of range. It also uses a trick 926-volt electrical architecture that supports DC fast charging of up to 400 kW.

Dodge Charger Daytona EV Shamed By A Family Crossover

  • The entry-level Charger Daytona R/T delivers 456 hp and 404 lb-ft (547 Nm).
  • While it didn’t match the Tesla, the Charger R/T is on par with a Ford Mustang GT.
  • Dodge’s most potent version of the EV offers 630 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm).

To say the Dodge Charger Daytona has sparked debate would be putting it mildly. The Charger’s transformation into an EV hasn’t exactly been met with universal applause, and early sales reflect that sentiment with some dealers already letting them go for well below MSRP.

Still, a few have made it to the streets (or rather, the drag strips), giving us our first glimpse of how this electric muscle car performs where it truly matters.

This blacked-out Charger Daytona recently appeared at The Strip at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and in its first race, was lined up against a black Tesla Model Y (though it’s not clear if it’s the mid-trim Long Range AWD or the flagship Performance variant). The Charger appears to be the entry-level R/T version rather than the flagship Daytona Scat Pack.

According to Dodge, the Charger Daytona R/T delivers 456 hp and 404 lb-ft (547 Nm) of torque, with a temporary boost to 496 hp for 15 seconds using the PowerShot function. That puts it above a standard Ford Mustang GT in terms of power, helping it hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.7 seconds. On paper, those numbers are impressive—but real-world performance is where reputations are made.

Dodge Charger Daytona EV Shamed By A Family Crossover

The Tesla, on the other hand, is a pre-facelift model. If it’s the Performance variant, it should deliver 456 hp and 497 lb-ft (674 Nm) of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of just under 4 seconds. Typically, these versions run the quarter-mile in well under 12 seconds, which suggests this one likely isn’t a Performance.

Furthermore, it seems to be missing the usual Performance model cues, like the distinctive wheels and red brake calipers. Unless the owner swapped those out, it’s probably the Long Range AWD model, which produces 384 hp and 376 lb-ft (510 Nm). If that’s the case, the outcome is even more embarrassing for Stellantis’ so-called “muscle coupe.”

The Race

In the race, the Tesla gets the jump off the line and takes a relatively easy win, crossing the quarter-mile in 12.54 seconds at 111.52 mph (179.46 km/h), whereas the Dodge needed 12.87 seconds at 111.84 mph (179.99 km/h). While being beaten by a Model Y is admittedly a little embarrassing, the Dodge’s time is roughly on par with a Mustang GT that can run the quarter-mile in the mid-12-second range. Sure, it cannot match the V8 rumble of the Ford, but the silent rush of an EV does have its fans.

Would the Scat Pack Have Fared Better?

The outcome raises an interesting question: Would the more powerful Daytona Scat Pack have given the Tesla a better fight? With 630 hp and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque, jumping to 670 hp with PowerShot, the Scat Pack is built for speed. Dodge claims it can run the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds, which could have turned the tables in this electric rivalry.

Maybe next time, Dodge. For now, the Model Y gets to keep its bragging rights.

Mercedes G-Class Golf Cart Has 20 HP, 4 Screens, And Costs More Than A Chevy Trax

  • A Mercedes G-Class-inspired golf cart is going up for auction next month.
  • The four-door SUV sports familiar styling as well as a surprisingly high-tech interior.
  • The Bodo G-Wagen apparently costs $21,900 new, which is more than some street-legal vehicles.

Mercedes recently confirmed plans for an affordable “G-Class,” which will slot beneath the regular model. However, if you’re willing to make a few tradeoffs, you can get a baby G-Class even quicker.

This pint-sized cutie is known as the Bodo G-Wagon / E-Wagon and it’s a golf cart that closely echoes its namesake. The attention to detail is impressive as the model is instantly recognizable as a G-Class and even comes with working lights, turn signals, and windshield wipers. They’re joined by a spare tire carrier as well as stylish two-tone wheels.

While the interior isn’t as nice as the real thing, it’s still pretty impressive for a golf cart as it sports a digital instrument cluster and a small infotainment system. There’s even a dual screen rear entertainment system, although it looks very basic.

Screens aside, there are power windows and locks as well as a heater and air conditioner. There’s even a rearview camera and stylish metal accents.

Mecum

While the G 580 with EQ Technology has a 122 kWh battery pack and a quad-motor all-wheel drive system with 579 hp (432 kW / 587 PS), the Bodo relies on a 10 kWh battery and a 20 hp (15 kW / 20 PS) motor. This enables the model to hit a top speed of 35 mph (56 km/h) and travel up to 80 miles (129 km) between charges.

This particular golf cart is being auctioned by Mecum on March 21, but one dealer has the vehicle listed for $21,900 new. That’s more than a new Chevrolet Trax, but it’s a small price to pay to be the ultimate baller on the back nine.

Tesla’s Fix For Cybertruck Panel Gap Noises? Slap Some Tape

  • A Cybertruck owner says that an official Tesla service tech used tape to fix his wind noise issues.
  • The posting sparked numerous comments from other truck owners facing similar problems.
  • In fact, it’s not the only Tesla with excessive wind noise, but tape could be a solution for some.

Throughout most of history, large luxury vehicles had at least one big advantage over, say, sports cars or lesser models: they were quiet inside. That’s typically part of the premium experience. However, according to several Cybertruck owners, Tesla’s latest creation seems to have missed that memo.

One owner took their concern about excessive wind noise to their local Tesla service center, and the proposed solution was surprisingly low-tech: tape. Yes, plain old tape, the same stuff you might use to wrap gifts or patch a torn page, was suggested as the fix for a high-tech, futuristic vehicle.

The customer in question anonymously posted about their experience on a Facebook Cybertruck group. “Is it just my truck?! They said nothing [sic] to do about it. Is that normal? Only from the driver side,” they wrote. Their comment was specifically aimed at the response they got to their request.

In the document from the service center the customer details their complaint. “Wind Noise – I already service this issue and was said this is standard. After driving your loaner, I found that the noise in my car is much stronger then in others.” They had tested another Cybertruck and found it to be noticeably quieter, confirming that the noise wasn’t just a quirk of the model but a specific issue with their vehicle.

This is where the tape comes into play. The tech working on it says in the document that they’ve verified it is a problem. However, due to the “body fitment specifications,” no adjustment to the panels is possible. The tech noted that “the noise heard is normal air turbulence that is expected with higher speed. No further action required at this time.”

Credit Facebook

The only action they performed is described as “found that taping off the panel gap between driver front fender and frunk reduced the noise.” Does that mean that the frunk is no longer accessible? That wouldn’t be too good. Of course, being that this is a post from an anonymous source, the whole thing could be fabricated, but the comments on the post suggest that it isn’t.

Several Cybertruck owners report the same wind noise issue. “The wind noise on mine is super loud, especially on windy days like yesterday,” said one commentator. “I bought decibel meter. About 50mph sound is 70db. Goes to 73 at 80mph,” said another.

On the other hand, some in the comment section said they didn’t have issues. Still, we’ve documented them in the past here as well. Clearly, not every Cybertruck is within the 10 micron accuracy window Elon Musk once called for.

Notably, wind noise complaints go beyond the Cybertruck when it comes to Tesla. Model 3 and Model Y buyers often complain about similar issues and have even taken to forums to discuss solutions that involve other DIY measures.

It’s worth pointing out that EVs can sometimes exhibit what sounds like excessive wind noise when in reality it’s comparable to what one gets in an everyday ICE car. The difference being that an ICE drivetrain can muffle that wind noise to a degree.

Honestly, I can see where the service technician is coming from here. They have no other way to satisfy the customer and taping panel gaps or transitions is a proven and effective way to eliminate some wind noise. I did it to my very own Ford Flex over some worn-out trim pieces a month ago. It works quite well and is hard to spot when done right.

Trump Admin’s Denial Of $400M Tesla Deal Contradicted By New Docs

  • A $400 million order for armored electric Teslas appeared on a 2025 State Department contract.
  • The Trump administration denied involvement, claiming the deal began under Biden’s presidency.
  • New documents reveal Biden’s budget allocated $483,000 for EVs and $3 million for equipment.

In early February, a curious line item appeared on the State Department’s largest contract of 2025: “Armored Tesla (Production Units)” with a staggering price tag of $400,000,000. The entry showed up on an official procurement document, sparking immediate denials from the Trump administration, which insisted that the deal originated under Biden. But now, newly surfaced evidence suggests that might not be entirely accurate.

According to a report from NPR, which says it obtained a new document from the State Department, the budget breakdown for the 2025 fiscal year tells a different story. It shows just $483,000 allocated for electric vehicles, along with an additional $3 million designated for support equipment like chargers, for a total of nearly $3.5 million. No mention of hundreds of millions for armored Teslas.

More: Cybertruck Crushes Safety Tests With 5-Star Rating (Updated)

NPR says it also spoke to a former White House official who believes the Trump administration did intend to buy $400 million worth of Teslas. “I don’t think this is a clerical error. It was likely someone who is new in [the] State [Department] who decided, ‘OK, we’re gonna do this with Tesla,'” they said on the condition of anonymity.

Interestingly, a spokesperson for the State Department told NPR on Monday that the $400 million was “an estimate” and that “the Department of State has no intention to move forward with the solicitation.” They also pointed out that the proposal was in its early stages and was not yet a full contract but was meant “strictly to gather information.”

For his part, Elon Musk also claims to know nothing about this deal so it’s plausible the truth is in the middle.

I’m pretty sure Tesla isn’t getting $400M. No one mentioned it to me, at least.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 13, 2025

Perhaps someone in the Trump administration genuinely believed Tesla was the best choice for armored vehicles, and the plan was quietly dropped after public scrutiny. Or maybe the budget line was just an ambitious placeholder. Either way, the deal seems to be off the table for now—but given the rapid twists in this saga, that could change at any moment.

For what it’s worth, the document submitted to the White House from the State Department listed several concerns about converting an EV to an armored personnel carrier. Beyond just protecting the battery to the point that assailants couldn’t pierce or damage it, the department wrote “finding an electric vehicle that can hold the weight of armor and have viable range for protection driving are other initial challenges.”

For now, it seems the State Department’s armored Tesla fleet is on ice. But as the political narrative continues to shift, this story might not be over.

Tesla Sales Crumble 45% In Europe, While EV Market Explodes 37%

  • Tesla sold 45% fewer cars in Europe last month compared to January 2024.
  • BEV sales grew by 37% in Europe+EFTA+UK region, reaching a market share of 16.7%.
  • Self-charging hybrids are Europe’s favorite powertrain type with a 34.9% market share.

Tesla is struggling to sell cars in Europe, with sales plummeting by 50.3% in the EU and 45.2% in the combined EU, EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland), and UK markets in January 2025 compared to the same month last year. Surprisingly, this drop comes at a time when BEV sales across all of Europe surged by 37%, showing that demand for zero-emission vehicles isn’t the problem.

According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Tesla sold 9,945 units in January 2025, down from 18,161 in January 2024. The drop was especially severe in Germany, where sales fell by 59.5% to just 1,277 units, and in France, with a 63% decrease to 1,143 units.

To put this in perspective, Tesla’s performance was so poor that even China’s SAIC Motors managed to sell more than twice as many cars in January, with 22,994 deliveries.

What’s Behind Tesla’s Fall?

Several factors could explain Tesla’s underwhelming performance. One likely reason is the growing negative publicity surrounding Elon Musk’s controversies, including the infamous salute and his outspoken political views, which have stirred debate across Europe. His support for Germany’s far-right AfD party and a jailed activist in the UK has reportedly damaged his public image, which in turn could be impacting Tesla’s brand perception in the region.

Another contributing factor could be the timing of the Model Y update. With the bestseller getting a significant refresh for 2025, many customers might be holding off, leading to reduced demand for the outgoing version. Additionally, Tesla had to retool its production lines for the new Model Y, which may have caused temporary supply disruptions.

Inventory shortages could also be to blame. According to Bloomberg, Tesla might be dealing with low stock levels in certain markets due to an aggressive push to boost year-end numbers in December 2024.

BEV Sales Soar Across Europe

Despite Tesla’s struggles, the overall demand for fully electric vehicles in Europe continues to grow. ACEA reports that 124,341 BEVs were sold in the EU and 166,065 units in the broader Europe+EFTA+UK region in January 2025. This represents a healthy market share of 16.7% in Europe+EFTA+UK, up from 11.9% in January 2024.

Still, the region’s favorite powertrain type is HEVs (self-charging hybrids) with a 34.9% market share, followed by gasoline (29.2%). In contrast, the market shares of diesel (8.8%) and PHEVs (7.6%) have declined compared to last year, now falling behind BEVs.

In the EU alone, the combined market share of gasoline and diesel cars fell to 39.4% in January 2025, down from 48.7% the previous year. Overall, new car registrations in the EU decreased by 2.6% to 831,201 units, largely due to declining sales in key markets such as France (-6.2%), Italy (-5.8%), and Germany (-2.8%).
