Subaru introduced the 2026 Trailseeker earlier this year and now the company has announced the wagon-like crossover will start at $39,995. That’s $5,000 more than the redesigned Outback, but the Trailseeker is far more attractive.

Kicking things off is the entry-level Premium trim, which features a fully enclosed grille that is flanked by LED headlights. Buyers will also find automatic windshield wipers, a power liftgate, and 18-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic covers.

The model is also notable for having 8.3 inches (211 mm) of ground clearance, which is more than the redesigned Jeep Cherokee.

The minimalist interior comes nicely equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. They’re joined by heated front seats that are wrapped in StarTex upholstery and have 10-way power adjustment on the driver’s side.

Other highlights include an automatic climate control system, ambient lighting, and a dual wireless smartphone charger.

The EyeSight Driver Assistance suite comes standard and provides Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, and Traffic Jam Assist. The model also has Front/Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Pre-Collision Braking, Active Lane Change Assist, and Lane Departure Prevention. Rounding out the highlights are Safe Exit Assist and a Blind Spot Monitor.

Trailseeker Limited

Moving up the trim ladder is the $43,995 Trailseeker Limited. It features a lightly revised exterior with 20-inch wheels and a hands-free power liftgate.

Bigger changes occur inside as the cabin is more luxurious thanks to a heated leather steering wheel and heated rear seats. Buyers will also find a power passenger seat and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

The upgrades don’t end there as the Limited features digital key technology and a 1500 watt AC power outlet in the rear cargo area. They’re joined by parking assist and a panoramic view monitor.

Trailseeker Touring

Sitting at the top of the lineup is the $46,555 Trailseeker Touring. It’s distinguished by a panoramic glass roof and a gloss black accent on the hood. Customers can also get a unique two-tone paint job for $795.

Interior changes are minor, but the range-topping variant has a digital rearview mirror, ventilated front seats, and radiant leg warmers. Customers can also shell out $300 to get black and blue leather seats.

The Fastest Subie In America

Regardless of which trim is selected, all Trailseekers have a 74.7 kWh battery pack that feeds a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. The latter produces a combined output of 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and it enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.4 seconds.

Besides being the fastest Subaru ever sold in America, the model is expected to have a range of approximately 280 miles (451 km). When the battery is low, the 150 kW DC fast charging capability can deliver an 80% charge in as little as 28 minutes. It’s also worth noting the model has an NACS charging port.

Prices exclude a destination fee of $1,450 to $1,600

Our spy photographers have already snapped prototypes of the 2027 Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron during testing. Now, however, they’ve gotten a glimpse inside, where we can see some pretty significant changes.

While the current model has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.6-inch infotainment system, the facelifted prototype has an all-new dashboard with a freestanding curved display that appears to echo the one found in newer models such as the A5 and A6 as well as the Q3 and Q5.

This likely means it will consist of an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment system. We also wouldn’t be surprised to find an optional 10.9-inch front passenger display.

We can’t see much else, but the production model could benefit from additional changes including a new steering wheel and revamped switchgear. Updated trim, upholstery, and equipment may also be on the cards.

Moving outside, we can see a lightly revised front end with skinnier air curtains that feature a horizontal accent. The grille is covered by camouflage, but it’s expected to be refreshed and could adopt an illuminated four ring logo.

The evolutionary styling continues at the rear as the Sportback has a lightly revised bumper with slender vents that’s joined by a modified diffuser and taillights that look the same but could sport updated graphics in the production-ready model.

Some of the biggest changes are expected to occur beneath the skin as electric vehicle technology has come a long way since the Q4 e-tron was introduced in 2021. This likely means we can expect more efficient motors, improved batteries, and upgraded charging technology.

The current model offers an assortment of powertrains, including a rear-mounted motor producing 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS). Buyers can also get an all-wheel drive variant with 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and an EPA-estimated range of 258 miles (349 km).

President Trump has announced plans to reset the “costly and unlawful Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards” enacted by the previous administration.

A fact sheet put out by the White House was light on specifics, but said Trump was “returning CAFE standards to levels that can actually be met with conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles.”

They said this stands in contrast to the “unrealistic fuel economy targets” that the Biden Administration had approved, which would have “effectively resulted in an electric vehicle mandate.”

The White House went on to claim the previous standards were impossible to meet with available technologies for gas cars and would have “compelled widespread shifts to EVs that American consumers did not ask for, accompanied by significant cost-of-living increases.”

They went on to say the average cost of a new car would have risen by nearly $1,000 when compared to the standards announced today.

Speaking of savings, the government said the move will save Americans $109 billion over the next five years. The White House also suggested that by enabling more people to buy newer and safer vehicles, the “reset is projected to save more than 1,500 lives and prevent nearly a quarter-million serious injuries through 2050.”

Big Changes, Less Efficiency

The Department of Transportation was more forthcoming as they revealed the Freedom Means Affordable Cars proposal. It calls for resetting CAFE standards for model years 2022-2031.

The new standards would be “developed without consideration of electric vehicles and credit trading,” and would call for a modest fuel economy increase.

For passenger vehicles, the proposal calls for an increase of 0.5% annually for model years 2023 through 2026. It would then dip to a 0.35% increase for the 2027 model year and a 0.25% increase for the 2029 to 2031 model years.

For light trucks, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is proposing a 0.5% increase for the 2023-2026 model years. It would be followed by a 0.7% increase for 2027, and then a lower 0.25% improvement for the 2029 to 2031 model years.

What the New Math Means

While it’s hard to wrap fuel economy figures around percentages, the Department of Transportation said the proposal would result in a fleet average fuel economy rating of 34.5 mpg by the 2031 model year. CAFE credit trading would also be eliminated in the 2028 model year, significantly hurting EV companies such as Tesla.

Furthermore, the proposal would “reclassify crossovers and small SUVs as passenger automobiles instead of light trucks.” In essence, it’ll be like making vehicles on ‘easy mode.’

Once the proposal is published in the Federal Register, it will kick off a 45-day public comment period. The move will likely prove divisive, but it has become increasingly clear that Americans aren’t ready to go fully electric and the transition will be far more gradual than many proponents hoped for.

The holiday season is upon us and that means automakers have rolled out an assortment of Christmas-themed campaigns such as Lexus’ December to Remember. These are easy to overlook, so it’s surprising that BMW decided to sneak a teaser in one of them.

The video begins with an advent calendar opening to reveal an assortment of models including the 7-Series. It then zooms in on December 24 and the box opens as question marks shoot out.

We’re then shown a darkened silhouette of a mysterious vehicle. It’s hard to tell what’s being displayed, but the accompanying text gives us some clues. In particular, it notes the video shows the iX1 xDrive30, iX2 xDrive30, i4 M50 xDrive, i5 M60 xDrive Touring, and i7 xDrive60.

All five of them are electric, so it’s safe to assume the mystery model is as well. The vehicle also appears to be a crossover that recalls the new iX3.

We’re not sure what BMW has up their sleeve, but spy photographers have already snapped pictures of the iX3 M60. It’s expected to have a sport-tuned suspension and beefier brakes. We can also expect styling tweaks inside and out.

Another possibility is the new i3. BMW has been teasing the car for months and the automaker could use Christmas Eve to share more details.

Another outside possibility is a glimpse at the upcoming iX5. It’s expected to debut next year and prototypes have already been spied on numerous occasions.

Still, the safest bet remains a new take on the iX3. In fact, when BMW introduced the iX3 50 xDrive in September, they said “further fully electric variants will follow, including a single-motor rear-wheel drive model.” The holiday clip may be the brand’s quiet way of saying that time is near.

Mercedes unveiled the GLC EQ at the Munich Motor Show this fall, but that’s not the end of the story. Quite the opposite as spy photographers have now snapped the first pictures of what appears to be a new three-row variant.

Spied parked alongside the regular model, the seven-seat crossover has a familiar design that closely echoes its smaller counterpart. However, we can see a flatter roof, updated rear doors, and a unique rear end.

The latter has been extended and features a more upright rear window. The camouflage also suggests larger third-quarter glass and a reimagined D-pillar.

Besides the special touches, the model has starry headlights and plastic body cladding. We can also see a familiar grille and rear light bar with circular elements.

Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but the model should have a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment system.

Buyers will also likely have the option to upgrade to the MBUX Superscreen, which adds a 14-inch front passenger display. If that isn’t enough screens, the available MBUX Hyperscreen features a 39.1-inch display that spans the width of the dashboard.

We can also expect a familiar powertrain that consists of a 94 kWh battery pack as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system developing 483 hp (360 kW / 490 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque.

This enables the regular model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds, hit a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h), and have a WLTP range of 418 miles (673 km).

The three-row crossover is believed to be designed for China. However, that’s not entirely certain as the model would make sense in a number of markets.

Ford’s future product roadmap has gotten messy as the company has killed or delayed a number of upcoming models. Most of these have been fully electric as the automaker axed their three-row EVs and recently halted F-150 Lightning production – at least temporarily.

Amid this chaos, Ford isn’t throwing in the towel on EVs. Quite the opposite as the company is working on a mid-size truck that will be launched in 2027 and ride on the all-new Universal EV Platform. The latter will eventually underpin a “family of affordable vehicles.”

That family could include a rear-wheel drive, high-performance sedan that would be affordable. Ford CEO Jim Farley hinted at the car in a recently posted video, which was taken a few months ago at Monterey Car Week.

Return of the Sedan?

The executive didn’t say much about it, but implied the mysterious model has a clean silhouette as well as a “cool closure” system in the back, which enables it to carry a lot of stuff. This suggests the car could be a liftback sedan, which would broaden its appeal in the crossover era.

Little else is known about the vehicle, but Ford has been hinting at a Mustang sedan since 2022. The company also reportedly showed dealers a rendering in 2024 and this could presumably be what Farley is talking about.

While that remains unclear, the executive said “There’s definitely a market for sedans, a huge market.” However, he said their previous generations of sedans failed in America because they were built on European platforms to European standards. This resulted in expensive cars, which cost the company a lot of money.

Fusion Died So Bronco and Maverick Could Live

Farley went on to point out that the Bronco and Maverick never would have happened if they continued making the Fusion. As he explained, they took the money from cars to invest it elsewhere. This has proven to be a wise move and Ford has focused on the “sweet zone” with Broncos, Mustangs, and Raptors.

Elsewhere in the interview, Farley shared praise for the Xiaomi SU7. He also talked about his dream of doing an off-road supercar. 

We’ve covered the latter before, but in this interview he described it as a WRC [World Rally Championship] car for four people as well as something like a Raptor R without a pickup bed. He went on to say the model would be partially electric and have 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS).

Of course, it’s all just a lot of talk at this point and Ford has been having problems executing their vision. Besides botched EV plans in America, the company’s European turnaround has stumbled with rebadged VWs. This is on top of 138 recalls and counting.

A new survey from the Canadian International Auto Show paints a more complicated picture of the country’s electric vehicle plans than policymakers might expect. While the federal government continues to push for a gradual phase-out of gas-powered vehicles, public sentiment hasn’t caught up.

A whopping 68 percent of respondents were against the move and most people said their next vehicle would likely be a traditional combustion model.

Reading the Room

That’s probably not the news the government wants to hear, but 47 percent of respondents said their next vehicle would likely be a conventional gas model. Thirty percent are eyeing an eco-friendly hybrid, while 11 percent are thinking about getting a plug-in hybrid.

As for EVs, they’re barely a blip on the radar as just 10 percent of respondents said their next vehicle would likely be an EV. People were also split on whether EV incentives should be brought back as only 54 percent agreed or strongly agreed.

Still, there was some consensus on one key point: most respondents said a stronger public charging network would be essential to drive future EV sales.

How Much Choice Matters

The auto show said the findings reveal that “consumer choice, across a range of powertrains and price points, remains a top priority for drivers.” The government appears to be willing to listen as reports have suggested changes are in the works following a review.

While Canadians have conflicting feelings about electric cars, they’re largely united amid a trade war with America. Seventy-seven percent of people surveyed agreed or strongly agreed that Canada should protect its auto industry.

That’s easier said than done and we’ve seen a number of high profile cancellations recently including the Chevrolet BrightDrop electric vans. Furthermore, Stellantis recently announced plans to build the Compass in Belvidere, Illinois instead of Brampton, Ontario.

BMW is working on 40 new or updated models and that includes the redesigned 3-Series and 3-Series EV, known as the i3. Both were recently spied undergoing testing and they sport some notable differences.

While both cars have a Neue Klasse front end, the gas-powered model has a prominent lower intake that appears to have an active shutter grille. The lower bumper on the i3 is covered by camouflaged mesh, but it should feature a similar setup.

More notable differences are revealed in the comparison images as we can see the two models have different rooflines. The i3’s is relatively flat, while the 3-Series has a subtle slope.

We can also see slightly different greenhouses with diverging rear door designs. The ICE-powered model has a nearly vertical partition, while the EV has a more angular design with a triangular base. Furthermore, both cars have unique rear quarter glass.

Even something as mundane as the location of the charging/fuel door is different. On the 3-Series, it’s located towards the front of the rear fender and sits slightly above the top of the rear taillights. This contrasts with the i3, which has a charging port that is located lower and towards the middle of the panel.

All of this suggests a lot of manufacturing complexity and few shared components – at least on the outside. Speaking of which, spy photographers did get a glimpse of the cabin and it shows a freestanding display and a new steering wheel.

The rest of the interior is covered by black cloth, but one of the images clearly shows a pillar-to-pillar Panoramic iDrive display at the base of the windshield.

Powertrain details remain scarce, but the i3 should follow in the footsteps of the iX3. The crossover is being launched in 50 xDrive guise, which features a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of 463 hp (345 kW / 469 PS) and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm) of torque.

This enables the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).

The motors are powered by a 108.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which provides a WLTP range of up to 500 miles (805 km). The impressive numbers extend to the 400 kW DC fast charging capability, which enables the battery to go from a 10-80% charge in as little as 21 minutes.

BMW has already confirmed further electric variants will follow including an entry-level model with rear-wheel drive. It’s likely that a number of these powertrains will be shared with the i3.

The 3-Series will be more evolutionary as it will ride on an updated version of the CLAR platform. However, previous reports have suggested we can expect an updated engine lineup including a new M350 with over 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS).

Mercedes’ electric vehicle push has been an unmitigated disaster and things aren’t looking up as the company has announced the 2026 CLA EQ will start at $47,250 before a $1,250 destination fee. That’s $4,500 more than the outgoing gas-powered model and just $2,400 less than the C-Class.

That’s pretty pricey, but the CLA 250+ with EQ Technology features an 85 kWh battery pack as well as a rear-mounted motor producing 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 247 lb-ft (335 Nm) of torque.

This enables the sedan to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 6.6 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).

More importantly, the model has an impressive EPA range of up to 374 miles (602 km). The car also has a 320 kW DC fast charging capability, which enables the battery to go from a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 22 minutes.

Customers seeking better performance can upgrade to the $49,800 CLA 350 4Matic with EQ Technology. It has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of 349 hp (260 kW / 354 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque.

Thanks to the extra oomph, the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time falls to 4.8 seconds. However, this comes at a price as the range plummets to 312 miles (502 km).

Comes Nicely Equipped

Putting powertrains aside, the CLA 250+ comes equipped with LED lighting units and an illuminated grille that features 142 individual stars. They’re joined by rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic glass roof,  and 17-inch wheels.

The interior comes nicely equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and heated power front seats wrapped in MB-Tex upholstery.

The compact sedan also has “smoky silver trim,” an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an automatic climate control system. They’re accompanied by facial recognition technology and a selfie/video camera.

A host of driver assistance systems come standard including Distance Assist Distronic, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind Spot Assist Plus. They’re joined by Evasive Steering Assist, Exit Warning Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Car-to-X communications technology.

Upgrading to the Exclusive trim adds flush-mounted door handles and Keyless-Go. Bigger changes occur inside thanks to a wireless smartphone charger, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and a 64-color ambient lighting system. The trim also adds a rear center armrest with cup holders as well as MB.Drive Parking Assist.

The range-topping Pinnacle trim comes standard with the MBUX Superscreen, which adds a 14-inch front passenger display. It’s joined by fancier LED headlights, a head-up display, a hands-free power trunk, and illuminated door sills. The model also has digital key technology and MB.Drive Parking Assist 360.

A dizzying array of options will be available including AMG Line and Night Packages as well as 18- to 19-inch wheels. Customers can also get leather seats, stainless steel pedals, and aluminum or wood trim. Other niceties include a heated steering wheel and a 16-speaker Burmester premium audio system.

Mercedes is gearing up to introduce the redesigned GLB on December 8 and the camouflage is starting to come off. This gives us our best look at the upcoming crossover, which will be offered with an electric powertrain.

While the front and rear ends are heavily disguised, the crossover’s profile has been exposed. This reveals an evolutionary design, which closely resembles the Smart #5. The similarities are striking as both have flush-mounted door handles and a corresponding greenhouse. The déjà vu design extends to the lower cladding and pronounced rear haunches.

Compared to the current GLB, we can see starry new headlights and streamlined bodywork. Designers also gave the crossover a more conventional beltline and a completely new rear end.

The latter has vertical taillights that appear to be connected by an illuminated bar. Elsewhere, the license plate recess has been moved from the liftgate to the rear bumper.

A High-Tech And Screen-Focused Interior

Mercedes revealed the GLB’s interior earlier this month and the model will offer an optional MBUX Superscreen. It should consist of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display.

Buyers will also find a new steering wheel, a floating center console, and an available wireless smartphone charger. There will also be five- and seven-seat configurations.

Speaking of which, Mercedes said the second-row has additional legroom as well as “noticeably more headroom.” Third-row passengers will find improved entry and egress.

A panoramic glass roof will come standard and customers can upgrade to an illuminated roof that features a “starry sky.” One version of the roof will also be able to transition from clear to opaque in a matter of milliseconds.

The crossover is expected to echo the CLA and offer an 85 kWh battery pack as well as two powertrains at launch. The entry-level variant could have a rear-mounted motor with 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 247 lb-ft (335 Nm) of torque. Customers can also expect a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 349 hp (260 kW / 354 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque.

They should be joined by a hybrid powertrain that has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a 1.3 kWh battery pack, and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated electric motor. This enables the European CLA to have outputs of 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS) and 206 lb-ft (280 Nm) as well as 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS) and 243 lb-ft (330 Nm).

The Lucid Gravity is a finalist for 2026 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year and their case is getting stronger with the introduction of a new Touring trim. It was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show and is currently available to order.

Designed to slot beneath the range-topping Gravity Grand Touring, the latest variant is instantly recognizable and features a familiar design. Few details were released, but it sports LED lighting units, a glass roof, and flush-mounted door handles. They’re joined by 20-inch wheels, acoustic front glass, and a power liftgate and frunk.

The five-seat interior sports PurLuxe upholstery as well as heated front chairs with 12-way power adjustment. Buyers will also find a 34-inch curved display as well as a lower 12.6-inch touchscreen.

Elsewhere, there’s a wireless smartphone charger, a ten-speaker audio system, and a four-zone climate control system. Other highlights include an ambient lighting system and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

An assortment of options will be available including leather, a third-row, and a 22-speaker premium audio system with Dolby Atmos technology. Customers can also get a heated steering wheel as well as heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats.

Tech That Watches Your Back

The crossover comes standard with an air suspension as well as the DreamDrive 2 suite of driver assistance systems. It includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Drive Assist (Lane Centering).

There’s also Lane Departure Protection, Front & Rear Cross Traffic Protection, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Active Intervention. Rounding out the highlights are Speed Limit Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Safe Exit Warning, and High Beam Assist.

While that’s a pretty comprehensive list, buyers can upgrade to DreamDrive 2 Premium or DreamDrive 2 Pro. The latter allows for hands-free driving as well as remote automatic parking.

Performance and Range

Power is provided by an 89 kWh battery pack that feeds a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system developing up to 560 hp (418 kW / 568 PS). That’s 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) less than the Grand Touring, but the crossover can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in four seconds flat.

The Touring has an EPA-estimated range of up to 337 miles (542 km), which trails the Grand Touring by 113 miles (182 km). That’s a pretty significant difference, but the 300 kW DC fast charging capability enables the crossover to get 200 miles (322 km) of range in as little as 15 minutes.

If you want to take advantage of the native NACS port and use a Tesla Supercharger, you’ll be limited to 220 kW. That’s a bit of a bummer, but it’s still relatively speedy.

What Will It Cost You?

Pricing starts at $79,900 before a $1,650 destination fee. This makes it significantly cheaper than the Gravity Grand Touring, which begins at $94,900.

In Canada, pricing starts at $113,500 and this includes a $2,300 destination fee, a $200 documentation fee, and a $100 federal air conditioning tax.

The Los Angeles Auto Show continues and Hyundai has used the event to introduce the US-spec Ioniq 6 N and Elantra N TCR Edition. The former originally debuted over a year ago, while the latter was introduced this summer.

Starting with the high-performance Ioniq 6 N EV, it features an 84 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of 601 hp (448 kW / 609 PS). However, a boost function increases that number to 641 hp (478 kW / 650 PS).

This setup enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 3.2 seconds when using Launch Control. Drivers can also expect to hit a top speed of up to 160 mph (257 km).

Hyundai declined to reveal the car’s range, but noted the model has a 350 kW DC fast charging capability. This will enable the battery to go from a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 18 minutes.

Other highlights include a sport-tuned suspension with electronically controlled dampers and N e-Shift technology. They’re joined by N Launch Control, N Drift Optimizer, N Grin Boost, N Torque Distribution, and an N Active Sound + system.

Since we’ve already seen the model numerous times before, we’ll briefly note the car features black and red accents as well as 20-inch forged wheels. They’re joined by sportier bumpers and a rear spoiler.

Hyundai hasn’t released full details, but said the car will have a Black interior with Performance Blue accents. Buyers will also find sporty seats with Alcantara upholstery as well as leatherette bolsters. Other highlights include a unique steering wheel as well as additional physical switchgear for more intuitive operation.

The Ioniq 6 N will arrive next year and be offered in “limited quantities.” There’s no word on pricing, but the 2025 Ioniq 5 N starts at $66,200.

Elantra N TCR Edition

Speaking of yesterday’s news, Hyundai introduced the Elantra N TCR Edition. Designed for boy racers on a budget, the car has a massive carbon fiber rear wing that tells everyone you’re compensating for something. It’s joined by special badging as well as gloss black 19-inch forged wheels that are backed up by a four-piston front braking system.

The interior sports an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, shifter, and handbrake. They’re accompanied by Performance Blue seat belts, aluminum door sill plates, and unique door puddle lamps.

Hyundai didn’t mention pricing or specifications, but the model should have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine pumping out 276 hp (206 kW / 280 PS) and 289 lb-ft (391 Nm) of torque. It can be connected to either a six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Hyundai Elantra N TCR Edition will arrive in the first quarter of 2026 as a “limited production run.” There’s no word on how many will be offered stateside, but expect it to cost more than the regular model, which begins at $35,100.

The Ford Transit remains America’s best-selling commercial van, and for 2026, it’s rolling out a host of updates designed to keep it ahead of the pack. As part of the makeover, it’s been given a “digital refresh” as well as a few styling tweaks.

Starting outside, there’s new badging and updated taillights that now offer integrated blind spot sensors. Fleet customers will also find a new Wild Green Metallic paint job.

While the exterior styling changes are easy to overlook, the 2026 Transit has an all-new electrical architecture. Ford said it “enables new digital capabilities, over-the-air software updates, and future scalability.”

There’s also an updated 8-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a newly standard 12-inch SYNC 4 infotainment system. The model also gains a 5G modem and a keyless push button ignition.

Updated Tech Suite

All Transits come equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360, which now includes a Forward Sensing System as well as a Reverse Sensing System on Cargo and Passenger variants. Customers can also upgrade to the optional Co-Pilot360 2.0 suite, which provides additional capabilities.

Given the Transit is a commercial vehicle, there are a number of fleet-friendly upgrades. This includes Ford Pro Telematics, which enables managers to keep track of their vehicles and how they’re being used. The van also has a newly standard Vehicle Maintenance Monitor, which helps customers stay up-to-date on maintenance to prevent downtime.

Additional changes are limited, but the E-Transit gains a vapor injection heat pump that promises to increase efficiency. The E-Transit Chassis Cab and Cutaway also gain a new variant with a 156-inch (3,962 mm) wheelbase.

What Else Is New?

Rounding out the highlights are several new and updated options including a Connectivity Package, which includes a year of unlimited Wi-Fi, audio and video streaming, Alexa Built-in, and available Connected Navigation.

The Delivery Package for Cargo Van and Cutaway variants also gains Delivery Assist, which automatically activates the hazard lights and closes all open windows when the vehicle is put in park. It also locks the doors when the driver exits the vehicle.

While that’s just a brief overview of the changes, the Transit offers a 3.5-liter V6 with 275 hp (205 kW / 279 PS) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque. Customers can also get a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 developing 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm).

If your company wants to go green, there’s the E-Transit. It features an 89 kWh battery pack as well as a rear-mounted motor producing 266 hp (198 kW / 269 PS).

Pricing starts at $44,890, while the E-Transit begins at $48,150. The latter is a huge price hike as the 2025 E-Transit Cutaway began at $45,700. Likewise, the E-Transit Cargo Van has gone from $51,000 to $53,260.

Renault has used Solutrans 2025 to introduce the new Trafic E-Tech Electric. It’s the company’s version of the Flexis Panel Van and the styling is virtually identical.

That being said, the latest variant features an illuminated Renault logo that is flanked by “light guides” and slender turn signals. They’re joined by low-mounted headlights and a familiar front bumper.

Since we’ve already seen the van before, we’ll briefly mention it has black plastic accents, a dynamic beltline, and asymmetrical rear doors. They’re joined by three dimensional taillights as well as large side doors that are designed to accommodate Euro pallets.

Two different versions will be available including an L1 that measures 191.7 inches (4,870 mm) long and has a cargo capacity of 180.1 cubic feet (5.1 cubic meters). The L2 has a 15.7-inch (400 mm) longer wheelbase and this enables it to hold up to 204.8 cubic feet (5.8 cubic meters) of cargo. Renault added both models are 74.8 inches (1,900 mm) tall, which enables them to access underground parking garages.

A Straightforward Interior

While cargo takes priority, the cockpit isn’t too shabby as it features three seats as well as a “tube-shaped dashboard.” They’re joined by a three-spoke steering wheel, numerous storage compartments, and Zeta blue-jean upholstery with grey accents and contrast stitching.

Buyers will also find a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch openR evo infotainment system, which is angled towards the driver. The latter features “tailored navigation that takes into account vehicle dimensions and load to avoid unsuitable routes.” There’s also an electric route planner, which suggests the best charging stops. Two Batteries With Up To 280 Miles Of Range

The Trafic E-Tech Electric rides on a skateboard platform and features a rear-mounted motor producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 254 lb-ft (345 Nm) of torque. It’s powered by two different battery packs.

The long-range battery will be available at launch and features a nickel manganese cobalt chemistry. It enables the van to have a range of around 280 miles (450 km) under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure.

Later on, Renault will offer an “urban-range” lithium iron phosphate battery. This variant promises to be affordable and capable of traveling nearly 217 miles (350 km) on a single charge.

Buyers will also find 800V technology, which will enable the van to go from a 15% to 80% charge in approximately 20 minutes. They’ll be joined by Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities.

Other highlights include a turning circle that is said to be equivalent to a Clio. The automaker is also aiming to use over 23% recycled materials on the van.

The Trafic E-Tech Electric will be built at the Sandouville plant, alongside the ICE-powered model. Production is slated to begin in late 2026 and the panel van will eventually be joined by chassis cab, platform cab, tipper, flatbed, and cargo box models.

Kia introduced the EV9 GT at last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show and promised it would “spark the hearts of driving enthusiasts who … need the practicality of a six-passenger SUV.” The model was scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2025, but it’s still nowhere to be found.

It appears there’s a good reason for this as Kia has quietly delayed the high-performance crossover. While the automaker was tight-lipped on specifics, they told Car & Driver the EV9 GT has been “delayed until further notice” due to “changing market conditions.”

That’s not very reassuring and the publication suggested the US launch could be scrubbed entirely. This wouldn’t be the first EV to suffer that fate as Ram recently killed the 1500 REV, while Volkswagen abandoned plans to bring the ID.7 stateside.

The move isn’t terribly surprising as EV9 sales have plummeted following the elimination of the clean vehicle tax credit. Last month, dealers only sold 666 units, which compared to 1,941 sold in October of 2024.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the EV9 GT would have been ridiculously expensive. The company never announced US pricing, but the EV9 GT-Line starts at $71,900. This suggests the GT variant would have cost around $76,000, if not even more.

That’s a lot of money for a Kia, but the crossover has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces an estimated 501 hp (374 kW / 508 PS). That’s 122 hp (91 kW / 124 PS) more than the GT-Line and it enables the model to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.3 seconds.

Besides the impressive powertrain, the EV9 GT was slated to have an electronically controlled suspension, beefier front brakes, and virtual gear shift technology. They were set to be joined by an electronic limited slip differential, unique styling, and a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port.

This marks the second electric Kia bound for the U.S. market to be put on ice in recent weeks. The company also postponed the launch of the EV4 sedan “until further notice,” citing the same market factors.

Ford’s war on cars has claimed another victim and this time it’s the Focus. While the model exited North America in 2018, it has survived overseas.

Unfortunately, the grim reaper has returned as the final Focus has reportedly rolled off the assembly line in Saarlouis, Germany. Ford hasn’t officially announced the end of production, but workers have been morning the loss of the car by describing its death as “painful” and “sad.”

Even worse, the future of the Saarlouis plant looks bleak. Two years ago, Ford said they “conducted an extensive search” for a suitor and signed a non-binding agreement with a potential investor in June of 2023. However, the unnamed investor dropped out following a “rigorous due diligence process and negotiation.”

Ford Europe’s Future Comes Into Focus

The Focus’ death is the latest blow to the company’s European arm, which has seen sales plummet in recent years. There have also been painful job cuts as well as a disastrous collaboration with Volkswagen.

Amid this background, Ford of Europe has a new president with tough decisions to make. Autonews said Jim Baumbick will need to decide if the company’s new Universal EV Platform, which will be launched on a mid-size truck, would make sense for Europe.

If he rules that out, the publication suggested Baumbick could double-down on the Volkswagen partnership. In particular, they suggested Ford could potentially offer a new Fiesta based on the ID. Polo. The latter rides on the new MEB Entry platform and is targeted to cost less than €25,000 ($28,973).

While it remains to be seen if that idea will come to fruition, Ford has already announced plans for a new “multi-energy” vehicle that will be built in Valencia, Spain. Previous reports have suggested the mystery model will arrive in 2027 and be a Focus-sized crossover.

The model is rumored to be built alongside the Kuga and will reportedly share some components to help keep costs down. The crossover is also expected to offer hybrid and electric powertrains.

Mazda’s EV push got off to a rough start as the MX-30 only survived two years in America. It was offered exclusively in California, and the company only sold 324 units in 2022.

More of an oddity than anything else, the 2023 model started at $34,110 and featured a tiny 35.5 kWh battery pack that provided 100 miles (161 km) of range. Besides being more expensive than competitors while offering less range, the MX-30 had suicide rear doors and an electric motor developing 143 hp (107 kW / 145 PS).

Following the failure of the MX-30, Mazda leaned on Chinese partners for the EZ-6 and EZ-60. While those are fine for certain markets, the company needed to create a ‘proper’ EV.

We’re now getting our first look at it as a mule was recently spied undergoing testing near the company’s research and development center in Irvine, California. As you can see, the model wears a heavily modified body sourced from the CX-70 or CX-90.

The front end is disguised, but features a fully enclosed grille as well as blocked off air curtains. We can also see a relatively small central intake.

Baldauf

Bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the mule has a shorter wheelbase than the CX-90 as well as a significantly shorter rear overhang. The model also has third-quarter glass that is reminiscent of the CX-80. While it’s hard to judge the crossover’s size by pictures alone, spy photographers said it was about as big as the CX-50.

Speaking of size, the upcoming EV is narrower than the body suggests. A closer inspection reveals the wheels are tucked in considerably, and this means the upcoming production model will have shorter tracks than the CX-90. We can also see aerodynamic rims as well as a possible charging port hidden beneath a rear bumper flap.

Little else is known about the model at this point, but Mazda announced plans for the Skyactiv EV Scalable Architecture way back in 2021. At the time, the company referred to it as a dedicated EV platform that would be introduced in 2025 and underpin “various vehicle sizes and body types.”

Mazda was originally planning to introduce several vehicles on the platform between 2025 and 2030. Needless to say, 2025 is almost up, and things have been delayed. It’s now believed the model could debut in 2027 and land stateside the following year.

Mitsubishi sales soared 25.8 percent in the United States last year, but their fortunes quickly reversed as year-to-date sales have fallen more than 11 percent through the third quarter. On top of that, the company killed off the popular Mirage, while its aging lineup continues to grow older.

Needless to say, things are looking bleak and that’s before mentioning tariffs and economic uncertainty. However, the automaker is planning a “strategic shift” that promises to “significantly strengthen” their position in the United States.

That’s according to a new letter sent to dealers by Mitsubishi Motors North America CEO Mark Chaffin. Autonews says the executive was coy on specifics, but teased this represents a “game-changing moment.” He also reassured dealers that “North America is a priority” for the company.

The lack of substance isn’t very reassuring, but Mitsubishi recently announced a couple of new models for North America. The first is an electric vehicle based on the redesigned Nissan Leaf.

It arrives in the summer of 2026 and will presumably share powertrains with the Leaf. This means we can expect a 75 kWh battery pack as well as a front-mounted motor producing 214 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) and 261 lb-ft (353 Nm) of torque.

The model could also offer an entry-level variant with a smaller 52 kWh battery as well as a 174 hp (130 kW / 177 PS) motor.

It will be joined in late 2026 by a rugged version of the Outlander. The company has previously said the crossover will have unique styling inside and out as well as performance upgrades and off-road focused drive modes.

Additional models are in the works and one is said to be a mid-sized crossover that would slot above the Outlander. It could arrive in 2028, offer three-rows of seats, and be built in the United States by Nissan.

Dealers are also hoping for a mid-size sedan and a truck, potentially based on the Nissan Frontier. “We could use an entry-level sedan as many OEMs are leaving the segment,” said Mitsubishi dealer board Chairman R. C. Hill, speaking to Automotive News. “Every Mitsubishi dealer would like a truck.”

While it remains to be seen if they’ll get what they want, Chaffin told them the company will be “expanding our focus beyond BEVs to include ICE, HEV, and PHEV models.”

The Genesis GV90 is taking an eternity to develop, but work continues on the coach door variant. However, the long gestation period is apparently wearing on employees as a couple of them decided to ignore a warning saying “Do not open doors!”

Thanks to their mistake, spy photographers were able to get a glimpse of the doors in action. As you’d expect, the doors open and close automatically to ensure entry and egress is effortless.

More notably, the luxury crossover eschews a B-pillar as there’s an uninterrupted side opening. While our view is partially blocked, this is an interesting development as even Rolls-Royces have a thick pillar separating the front and rear passenger compartments.

The feature was previewed on the Neolun concept and Genesis previously said B-pillarless coach doors provide “much more open interior space” while also maximizing “convenient passenger access.” At the time, they hinted development had reached a point where using the design on road-going models was “now feasible.”

That’s certainly the case and it appears Genesis will be moving the traditional B-pillar support to the doors. As part of the change, we can see pronounced locking mechanisms on the door sill and ceiling. The front section of the rear door also appears notably thicker than the rest of the panel.

Besides giving us a glimpse of the doors in action, the latest pictures reveal the crossover will have power front and rear seats with a bewildering number of adjustments. We can also see blue and purple leather as well as metallic accents and contrast piping.

Previous spy photos have shown an elegant second-row with captain’s chairs that are separated by a large center console. The latter appears to house a wireless smartphone charger as well as an integrated tablet.

Platform and Powertrain

The company hasn’t said much about the model lately, but the GV90 is expected to ride on the new eM platform. The architecture is expected to be an evolution of the existing E-GMP platform, but incorporate the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology.

Although full details remain unclear, the GV90 should be more advanced than the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. The latter features a 110.3 kWh battery pack as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing up to 422 hp (315 kW / 429 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. With that powertrain, the model has a range of 311 miles (501 km).

Toyota has announced plans to invest an additional $10 billion in the United States over the next five years. The company didn’t say where the money is going or what it will fund, but it will bring their total U.S. investment to nearly $60 billion.

While the automaker was coy on specifics, the move comes amid tariffs and pressure from the Trump administration to build more vehicles in the United States.

Just last month, the White House said “Toyota plans to export its U.S.-made vehicles to Japan and open its distribution platform in Japan to U.S. automakers.”

The country also decided to allow sales of American-made vehicles and “U.S. safety-certified vehicles” without additional testing.

An American Battery Plant

Putting politics aside, Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina has officially opened and begun production. Located in Liberty, the $13.9 billion plant is the company’s eleventh manufacturing facility in America and Toyota’s only battery plant outside of Japan.

It’s expected to generate up to 5,100 jobs and be capable of producing 30 GWh of battery capacity annually. While the opening comes shortly after the clean vehicle tax credit was eliminated, Toyota noted the plant has 14 battery production lines that support not only electric vehicles, but also hybrids and plug-in hybrids.

Speaking of which, batteries made at the plant will be used in the Camry Hybrid, Corolla Cross Hybrid, and RAV4 Hybrid. It will also make batteries for the company’s upcoming three-row EV.

While production is just getting started, Toyota plans to open additional assembly lines by 2030. The company also noted that once construction is complete, the facility won’t just be a workplace as it will also house a pharmacy, a medical clinic, a fitness center, and on-site childcare.
